About this episode
Does the strongest argument against Jesus being God come from Jesus Himself?
In Mark 13 and Matthew 24, Jesus says that no one knows the day or hour—not the angels, nor the Son, but only the Father.
So here's the obvious question:
If Jesus is God, and God knows everything, how could Jesus genuinely say, "I don't know"?
In this episode of The Caffeinated Christian, we work through one of the most difficult objections to the Christian doctrine of the incarnation.
Did Jesus surrender His omniscience when He became human?
Was Jesus simply ignorant according to His human nature?
Does the incarnation mean Jesus had two minds?
What does Paul actually mean when he says Jesus "emptied Himself" in Philippians 2?
And can Jesus genuinely say that He doesn't know something while the eternal Son remains omniscient?
We're going to take the objection seriously rather than giving a quick Christian cliché. We'll look at Mark 13:32, Philippians 2, the historic Christian understanding of Christ's two natures, and the philosophical question of whether omniscience is something God could surrender and still remain God.
This isn't about finding an easy answer.
It's about asking whether the Christian doctrine of the incarnation is actually coherent.
The bigger question isn't simply, "Did Jesus know everything?" It's “Who is Jesus?”
