Huntsville Spacewalk Trail Celebration

0:00In Birmingham today, March 20th, the land trust of North Alabama is marking the finish of the Huntsfield Spacewalk Trail with a special ceremony on April 3rd at 10 a.m. at the South Monte Sano Trailhead. This 16 and a half mile loop now connects Monte Sano's best spots for its tough scenic hike. The trail got its start in the 1960s thanks to local boy scouts. Development wiped out some sections over the decades, but recent work brought it back stronger as the latest version. Local Eagle Scout Lanoline led the key project to revive and link up the paths. Groups like Bird on the mountain and Monte Sano State Park teamed up to make it happen. Leaders praised the effort for blending community history with land care. The trail suits hikers training for big tricks with some really steep parts, check ratings first, blazes, shaped like a space rocket nod to Huntsfield's rocket legacy. The event will spotlight Lanna's role in the partnerships, opening the trail for all to explore Monte Sano's wild beauty.
