Huntley's Life Support Turned Off After Prison Attack

He suffered severe brain damage after an inmate attacked him with a metal bar at H&P Franklin in Durham on February 26. Huntley, a former school caretaker, serving a life sentence with a minimum of 40 years, was rushed to hospital and kept on machines for weeks. Next showed he was in a vegetative state and blind from the blows to his head. His 27-year-old daughter, Samantha, expressed strong anger toward him after the incident, saying he deserved what was coming. The attack happened in the prison's recycling area, shocking staff and inmates alike. Police detained a man in his mid-40s, later identified as Anthony Russell, a 43-year-old serving a whole-life term for multiple murders, and a rape.
