Howard Frankland Bridge Detour: Plan Ahead

The lanes will close from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 until 5 a.m. on March 11th. If the weather holds up, crews need the time to install overhead signs. This work ties into the big upgrade for the Howard Franklin Bridge, which links Hillsboro and Pinellas counties. Those with the Florida Department of Transportation urge drivers to plan ahead. Try routes like Gandy Boulevard, Roosevelt Boulevard, the Bayside Bridge, Courtney Campbell Causeway, or Memorial Highway, expect backups and add extra time to your trip. The bridge dates back to the 1960s and carries heavy traffic daily. Back in 2017, a nearly $865 million project kicked off to ease those jams with construction starting in 2020.
