1:00Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Okay, so if you guys are watching all the HBO shows right now, you guys are watching what is that the Robin Hood show with the bald kayo kid? Oh, nine of seven kingdoms. Nine of seven kingdoms. That's over, but it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. DTF St. Louis. I watched John Oliver. There's the rooster. We'll maybe be talking about that here momentarily. But if you're watching any of these shows, you see previews. Have you guys seen the preview or seen it on your HBO for the two part documentary called Mel Brooks 99 year old man? No, okay. So it's a basically it's almost three hours and 45 minutes on the life of Mel Brooks. And it's done by Judd Apital. And Judd Apital is probably the most influential comedic producer of the last 20 years. Wouldn't you guys say like he's probably got the most pole

2:02and authority. He's gotten so much stuff made, launched so many careers. But he's one of these guys that he was a comedy nerd when he was 10 years old, right? So he was worshiping at the altar of guys like Mel Brooks. Because he's gotten older. He pays tribute to all these guys. He did George Carlin and Gary Sandlin and all that stuff. So his latest one is Mel Brooks, which I did not even know that Mel Brooks was still alive. And after I watched all four hours of this, which took me a couple nights, Mel Brooks is 99 years old and he is still kicking. Wow, like driving around and stuff. So they didn't show footage of that, but they did show him going to a lot of different events and things. And so I was looking at this and there's some footage of during the pandemic. So I was like, okay, well, how did he pass? So last night at 1245, when you do my Google search history, how old is Mel Brooks at 1245 at night? He's gonna be 100 in June. He's still going. Wow. Still going.

3:03And then I woke up this morning and I saw an article that a guy just passed away at the age of 102. And his name was, let's see, I've got it right here. Sorry. You'd know him if you've ever driven around Dallas, it's Julius Red Coleman. He is the liquor retail giant. So Coleman's, okay. So he was, and him and Mel Brooks actually was reading this article on Julius Red Coleman passing away at 102. And they actually had somewhat similar lives in that. If you're of this age and you're a man in America, you more than likely fought or served somehow in World War II. All right. In the case of this guy, he went and served in World War II. A lot of those guys got married before they went off to the war. This Julius Red Coleman got married. And they came back and he was the first guy to realize, you know what? If we put liquor stores and neighborhoods, I bet we'll do really well. They don't just have to be downtown. So he was known as like the retail neighborhood liquor giant.

4:08They were called Red Coleman's, right? Yes. And they had other versions too. But anyways, that's how he made all his money. He made tons and tons of money. Mel Brooks had this real interesting thing where if you've seen any of Mel Brooks work, he like, if you guys know what the producers, that is, it was a movie first and then it became a huge Broadway thing with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. Oh, yeah, yeah. It was a movie that came out. It was Mel Brooks first movie that he wrote and directed. And it's based on, and it had Gene Wilder in it. And it's based on two guys wanting to put on a play to lose money for financial reasons. So they come up with the worst play possible and it's a musical called Springtime for Hitler. Okay. So they're trying to lose money. Yes. Okay. And in 1967 or 1968, this is pretty edgy stuff. I'd go so far as to say it's pretty edgy stuff now. But Mel Brooks made a whole career

5:09out of doing lamponing Hitler and the Nazis and he is a Jewish man that he lost his own father when he was two, he grew up crazy poor. And I think he was in Brooklyn. I can't remember, one of the burrows, dirt poor and he was in World War II. And so he was a man that was right outside of Germany, fighting Hitler in the war. That's a, it's a Jewish man. While this man is trying to exterminate all Jews off the planet and he is so into comedy when he comes back, he's gonna make fun of Hitler. So he does that in space balls, doesn't he? He does it in almost every other space balls, young Frankenstein. Yes. May the Schwartz be with you then. Blazing Saddle. The history of the world, part one. Yeah, another one of those a couple of years ago. Yeah. And that's one of the things we're talking about now is like all this stuff is like coming back and people are doing. But okay, so you guys know the name Carl Reiner.

6:11His son Rob Reiner was just murdered. Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks were best friends. And they wrote together on a show that you guys have heard the name Sid Caesar. He was a star of a show called The Show of Shows. Carl Reiner wrote for it. Woody Allen wrote for it. Mel Brooks wrote for it. It's just birth so many careers. But Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks had a comedy bit they did called the 2000 year old man. And it was all improv. And Carl Reiner would ask Mel Brooks questions about history. And he would just make up things off the top of his head because he had been a liar for 2000 years. And it launched his career. And then later he married you guys know who Ann Bancroft is. She's Mrs. Robinson in the graduate. She they got married and she was always like, she was a big star and he was a short Jewish guy and she was his champion. And so she encouraged him to not do TV. He did get smart. That was his first break. So then he started doing all these movies. He did, he did the producers,

7:12which was, it was number one at the box office. Got nominated for Academy Awards. Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles came out in the same year and they were both number one at the box office. Wow. And Gene Wilder wrote Young Frankenstein and he made it and then Blazing Saddles, he wrote with Richard Pryor. Never torn down. Roy Orbison, perfect game. I got nothing on him. The interest. The people that tore him down ironically enough were members of the Jewish community that were like, how dare you be Jewish and make fun of Hitler? And he was like, that's who I am. It's kind of like what we're talking about now with a lot of things. But anyways, I just couldn't believe that he was still alive at 99 years old. He's his wife passed away. Carl Reiner, once his wife passed away, he had dinner every night in Carl Reiner's, they had TV dinners together and watched a movie. He was with Carl Reiner when he passed away. If you're 99, you're going to lose everybody in your life. And he's still going. And so I just saw that this, I saw that documentary last night

8:14and I saw Red Colman today and I'm like, do I want to be a hundred years old? No. I don't think I do. God, that'd be, we'd have a long way to go. Long way to go, babe.
