1:00from Metz Pirates at 410 only. On SNY, good morning, Ronnie, how are you? Good morning, guys. Second, second by a long shot. Most important, Darling and Queens right now after Dylan Darling. Yes, that is true. That is very well put, by the way. Hey, so let's put all the speculation in bed, and then let's get an answer about what happened to the Metz team last year, and all the changes that David Sterns was forced to make for this year's team. Was there a problem in the locker room, Ronnie, from your perspective with last year's team? You know, Boomer, you know, it wasn't the same. I'll tell you that 2024 was such a magical year. There was so much joy and, you know, happiness in that clubhouse a year prior to the glaciers and JD Martinez and others. So what really was a step off when you saw kind of none of those things happen for the team last year. Now they started out great and then they really went in the tank.

2:01So when that happens, that can make everyone a little surly. You know that better than anyone, Boomer. But yeah, they certainly didn't have any of that magic they had in 2024 last year. Yeah, and it seemed to me that it was obvious why I got really bad towards the end because the arms were worn out and the pitching went right in the toilet. And that's one of those chickener. The egg conversations is did the pitching go in the toilet and the team morale go down because they didn't like one another or did the pitching and the losing lead to bad team morale. But really the biggest problem with the Mets last year is like towards the end. No one could get anybody out. You're so right, Gio. I mean, and it was the same game over and over and over again. The Mets would score five in the first on the road. And by the third inning, the game was tied. They just, if they were given a lead, they couldn't hold it. If they pitched a good game, the Mets offense wouldn't score. It was groundhog day. It seemed like in the booth each and every day. And I'm sure that war on the guys as well.

3:01Yeah, major, major additions. And when I look at these additions, I'm telling Gio and the fans out there that these additions are not just happenstance. I mean, these are guys that they want character guys like Simeon and Boba Shet and Hori I mean, give me your sense of what you've seen from those guys thus far and what kind of difference of a team they're going to be and what what fans could look forward to from them. Well, I think when you're talking about a guy like Marcus Simeon, you're talking about a guy who is kind of a lunchpale kind of guy. Comes to the ballpark every day is very serious about his J.O.B. His craft and doesn't suffer fooled gladly. So there's going to be a real seriousness to what he brings to the clubhouse. I think that's a that's a good thing, a really good thing. I think when you're looking at Boba Shet first the talent jumps off the page and what he can do with the bat. You're going to get a guy who is one of the best contact hitters in all the baseball playing third base. That'll be a work in progress. We'll see how that goes.

4:05But one of the best bats in the game. And you know, I mean, David Sterns didn't have to get rid of all those guys, but he chose to. And I kind of think why do I think he did that? Well, when you think of the match, they talked a lot about I think most teams are like this of emulating the Dodgers who have become so good, right? And over the time that Peter Lonso was in the major leagues 2019 on, the match played in 16 postseason games. Now it's the easiest to get in the postseason now of any time in baseball history. 16 postseason games, the Dodgers played in 75. The match record in those 16 eight, Nate, the Dodgers 46 and 29. So there is quite a gap if they want to catch those Dodgers. We heard a lot from David Sterns as we talked to Ron dolling this morning on the fan and CBS Sports Network about run prevention, run prevention. And I certainly believe that up the middle this team has elite defense. But there's other questions where you're playing guys out of position and guys that weren't even that great defensively

5:05last year like a boba shit moving to third base and then two guys who first base is in their first position either. So do you believe that the run prevention question was solved by David Sterns in this offseason? It's a good question. I think that when run prevention is looked at, first people look at defense. Well, run prevention starts with the guys on the mound. So think of it this way. The run prevention is already better. Why? Because Peralta and the clean are in the rotation. They strike out the world. So guys who strike out people and not a lot of ball that is contacted are putting the play already. Your run prevention is better with those first two guys. So that's going to be the biggest part of it. Does the three, four, five guys, Senga and the people behind them? How well they pitch? Well, probably you'll see how run prevention and defense plays with those starters, more than you will be playing in Peralta. You know, Ronnie,

6:07here's a 700 million dollar question for you. Two years ago, I saw one soda wearing Yankee pen stripes and he looked like he was just having a time of his life with Aaron Judge and the Yankee fan and the Yankee uniform. He comes here last year. I don't see that joy in him. The body language is not the same. And then I watch him in the world baseball classic. I mean, he loved every minute of that. And the joy that the Dominican team brought the baseball. Are we going to see which one soda do we expect to see for the match? Boomer, I think you're going to see the second one. And I think that my word for him in the first year at the match uniform is just he seemed overly cautious. You know, like he didn't want to say the wrong thing. He didn't want to do the wrong thing. All of those things is overly conservative and cautious in my estimation. And that's not the best one soda. Although boy, he played so great last year, especially finished so strongly. But I think a an unfettered full personality one soda would be much better to not only play, but also

7:13to watch for us fans. Our belief, Boomer and I when looking at the off season that Edwin Diaz didn't want to come back here and was going to go to the Dodgers, no matter what, when you look at that situation, Edwin Diaz leaving. Do you believe that the Mets fumbled that or are you with us that Edwin Diaz was not coming back? Yeah, I'm kind of with you guys. One of the things that was not looked at is that Edwin Diaz's younger brother was with the Dodgers for a good portion of the season in 2025. So I think that Edwin probably had a good scouting report on not only how great the Dodgers are, that's obvious, but kind of what it's like to play in that uniform. So that probably gave a good insight into it. But I don't think the Mets got played. I don't think Edwin Diaz got played. I think what happened is the Dodgers are such a joke or not. They probably told Diaz, hey listen, you got a 24 hour offer here and don't shop it. You had to sign with this or we're

8:15taking it off the table. And I think that's kind of kind of what happened to him and why he probably didn't go back to the Mets one more time. So I don't think anyone got played. I just think the Dodgers right now are working at a pretty high level. Yeah, we were talking this morning about David Stern's kind of having to pivot to go to plan B and signing Devon Williams before all this went down because I think he knew that the Dodgers were going to pounce. So I can't sit here and blame David Stern's for losing him. But the one thing I will say David Stern's is turned over this roster and he's going to give two young guys a huge shot that's Carson Benj in the outfield and of course it's Nolan McLean. What did you take from Nolan's performance in the World Baseball Classic? Well, I was looking up a boomer to be after the final and watch him pitch from real close. And he's got, you know, I don't know what it is, you know, but he's got it in spades. The way he walked on the mound and off the mound, it's such a young pitcher with

9:16little experience pitching in the WBC was something to behold. His body language was that of the 567 10 year veteran. So that just speaks to if he's healthy, he's going to be one of the great ones. It's simple as that. His pitches are just that good. And as far as Carson Benj is concerned, I mean, I don't know about you guys. I get so excited when you get an everyday player who gets a chance to start with the ball club. And when I watch him play, the only comp that I see when I watch him is Jackson Merrill, the center fielder for the San Diego Padre. He reminds me so much of that player, you know, good power, unbelievable contact rate, great defensive player. If he has that kind of year, like Merrill did in this work year, the Mets are on their way. 10:18game shows as the Mets kick off the 2026 season, something that I don't believe has been talked about a lot is the change over in coaching staff under Carlos Mendoza. And I made Carlos Mendoza fan. I did not want him fired after the disaster to end last year. But David Surns goes takes a guy out of another organization in Kai Karea, who is a very young guy who is if you look at his background, extremely analytical. If I were Carlos Mendoza, I'd be like, oh, man, like this is an interesting thing. How do you think that dynamic is going to work? Well, I'm going to do guys. I'm a big Mendoza fan. The first year, of course, of keeping that steady hand when they cut off to that rough start was really impressive. Last year, not so impressive as far as a team's concern, but I'm a big fan of Carlos and what he brings. It's interesting that the organization decided to not only change so many players, but also to really redo their entire coaching staff

11:22and bringing people that are quite different than the people they had there before. I think it just speaks volumes to how important analytics and information are to this organization or to David Surns and the baseball operations people. So that is the people you're going to see as far as long as Surns is there. And now they're under Mendoza. I think the hardest part is not the coaches and the players. They'll get a long fine. Players are used to changing in coaches. It's just all of those coaches all getting on the same page underneath Carlos Mendoza. I always think that takes time, but I'm sure they'll figure it out. Hey, coaches and players both. And here's one player, then this is my final question. And I'm as frustrated as anybody for this guy. And I think most med fans will tell you how frustrated they are because he came in with such high hopes. And it's been really, really like start and stop, start and stop. And that's Kodai Senga. I mean, how much patience do you think they're they're going to have with him? And do you think that, you know, he's a long-term solution here. Is he still going to be this problem

12:25that's going to be so frustrating to all of us? Yeah, I don't think there are going to have a lot of patience, Boomer. I think, you know, what has happened is that he had such a great work of year that he didn't mind making a lot of decisions that kind of put into the forefront. And other people had to kind of maneuver around. I'm talking about pitching staff because he needed to go on every six day. Well, the only time you're afforded that luxury is if you're really good. And if he's not very good early, you know, they're not going to have a lot of patience with him. But for the next to be, to get to that next level, he's got to be good. He's got to have a good year and pitch close to what he did in his first year. Before we let you go, I wanted to get you take on the Yankees. We're open up their season tonight. Obviously an extremely quiet off season. Just three guys who weren't on the team last year on this opening day roster did Brian Cashman do what he was supposed to do this off season and put this team in a position to be

13:26better than they were last year. Oh, I think they're going to be better. I think they're going to get the best reinforcements. Any team is going to get sprinkled throughout the year with Rodon and Cole and others. I think they are one of the best teams in the game. I think they walked it back because they do what other teams are trying to do. They win 95 games each and every year. So I know that for the Yankee fan and you know that it's either a World Series win or bust. And the way the format is now in post season, it makes that very difficult, although the Dodgers stuff they get it out. But I like their team. I like their team a lot. They're going to be a 90, you know, 90 to 100 win team. And like I said, they're going to get better as the season goes along. Tune in tomorrow to S&Y. It is a lot. And that tells you a lot about what David Stern saw over the last year. Yeah. I mean, in this, his fingerprints, obviously, he is the VP of baseball operations. But this, this is more his team than it's ever been. You got to wonder, I like how, what does he really think? Does he really think that he put together a roster here that can go over 90 games? Yeah. I mean, I think I think he probably was bummed out that Edwin Diaz didn't want to come back.

15:27And I think he was probably bummed out that Kyle Tucker took the deal to go to the Dodgers. But as far as it off season, I thought they did great. I'm think he's thrilled he was able to get parol to here. I mean, if you say, yeah, not only paroled them, but once you see like what I loved about what Ronnie was saying was Marcus Simeon and how serious he is about his business and how he goes about his job. And then how like, I still think that Boba Shet, the youthful energy, they're still that's still there with him. Yeah. You think about those guys and then, what Robert's junior in the incentive field, you're thinking about three guys that should bring a level of energy and professionalism that David Stern's was looking for. Yeah, that that's sealing on Luis Robert Jr. is so high. If he could stay healthy, he's on a good team, he's motivated. I mean, he could be really a fan favorite. A guy that takes this team to the playoffs, a centerfielder that we've been looking for for many years. It could be that or it could be a guy who's hurt all the time and never contributes. You're well, you're a GM that is brought in

16:27top-end players. That's the way I look at this and top-end veteran players because he knows he's got a fan base that has expectations because of the owners, the pockets. And I, you know, if no one McLean is as good as Ronnie, thinks he's going to be and and Peralta is going to be striking out players as much as he's going to be, then this back end of this rotation is going to be the key to everything. I understand what power was basically exonerated from everything except for his reputation was in Tatters. Right. And all he does is YouTube videos now. Yes. I mean, you think about their the defense that they play. They seem like they're really connected really together. And it's a team that's as high as anybody in the country. And then so much of you want to talk about buttoned up with the boat, Coast Guard came over and checked on him to see if he had all the safety things going on because it was very early in the season and knocked it right out just like that. That was a little shock. That was like, you know, you guys are up here doing this like, shouldn't you be off the coast of Florida somewhere? Oh, you know, there's Coast Guard sold all over the place. Yeah. Of course, I know that. But, you know, you know, they're doing their thing. By the way, a big problem that was in the Great South Bay that's happened over this winter because it froze over so bad that these giant piling. So if people don't know what a piling is, it is a giant log, cylindrical log that is driven into the ground, driven into the ground where you would tie your rope of the boat onto when you're docking. So because of the deep freeze, a lot of these popped out of the ground when the ice melted. So all these docks along the south shore of line. Yes. But so you think, oh,

36:09they have to replace all the piling. That's not the tough part. The tough part is these things are massive and they're floating all over the Great South Bay. So like the the marine unit at Suffolk County, the Coast Guard, everybody's out. It's not easy. You can't just like pick it up with your hand. No, you know, so they've been spending ever since the they unfroze melted. They have been out there pulling up hundreds of pylings. I say that means that there have been many docks that have been ruined. Yeah. And you know, these are going to ruin, but definitely they got to be rebuilt. Yeah. If the pylings are floating around somewhere, you got to rebuild these things. Yeah, you got to get new pylings. Yeah. I mean, the amazing thing is is that I have not heard one Iota of this news. Yeah. See? And it's just a it's a collateral damage from a winter that we haven't seen around here in what? How many years? Yeah. Late 70s. Yeah. So late 70s. It's always something. Is there not? Yeah. I know. If it's not a pile of piling, it's a puddle. Right. Piling a puddle

37:10out of car fire. The other day had a car fire coming in yesterday. You did. Yeah. Check that off for 2026. I always see a car fire, at least one car in golf and flames throughout the year. Maybe you've seen a car upside down on the median yet. I's not by my own two eyes, but I did see one, but the wheel still spinning. It was a terrible accident. Yeah. I'm sure you saw that same. Yes. So that on your bingo card for the. Yeah. Right. The bingo card. There's no cards. They go. Shut up. Well, yeah. I know he's joking. But, uh, but yeah, I got a car fire. People love a car fire too that are not a car fire. Oh, they slow down, take pictures. You should see the amount of pictures. I mean, you'd think like frickin' Taylor Swift was on the side of the road when that car is up and flame. People love that. They're all, they're all the windows down. It's pretty good that I'm never the guy that's a part of a car fire. Oh, exactly. I mean, that's just doing bad and, you know, an accident on the LIE or something. Just. Yeah. That's just

38:10a nightmare scenario. Absolutely brutal. But yeah, people for whatever reasons, like I think, well, I mean, you know, people know what a car fire is. It's a car on fire. It's not like, it's not like you're seeing some sort of endangered species. So. But yeah, there's a couple things you knock off the list. That's one of them. That's one road rage incident I have not gotten yet. Well, like witnessing one. But I'll always get that. I feel like a lot of people have been away over the last like six to seven weeks or waiting on a TSA security line. Yeah, waiting on TSA security lines. Yeah. Yeah. So I feel like the traffic's been a little bit less. It has been. Back on wood. That's the door. You know, April comes around. People come back from Florida. Florida. Yeah. Yeah. I know. And then we get those summer Fridays where it takes just absolutely forever to get home to get back. It's brutal. But we got kick off the summer happening again at DJ's, I think. As far as I know, we're back at DJ's. That's good. Delmar Friday and Memorial Day weekend. We found a band yet. Yeah. We're working on it. Okay. Good. Very close to something.

That's exactly right. So things should be run by you. A lot of things have been run by you. It's really how people come to you. And they would give you all the inside scoop. Sure. So this is now things are starting to transition now. Used to people come in my office and run things by me. No more. Yeah. I think you're exaggerating a bit. I do think there's things that people don't want to bother you with. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah. That's what it is. I don't want things bothered to sign a respect. Okay. Good. That's what I think I feel like there's a there's been a shift in control. No, no, no, no, which is fine. No, I'm done with it. What the hell are you talking about? Since the day I sat next to you, we talked about this being a team effort through and through.

I'm like, yeah, just run it by me. I'm doing nothing. I'm eating a turkey sandwich watching YouTube golf that I'm going to take a nap. I'm going to go to the range, pick Sabrina up from soccer. Yep. Do it all over again. Right. Show up a work and then people come run by stuff. Run stuff by me. I didn't get a phone call. Well, by the way, you're not going to like this. Okay. Say, but Friday, it was a request that just five minutes after the show Friday, we have an in-person run stuff by thing from somebody. Somebody we love.
