All right, so we're going to talk the tournament here so if you're holding games and you don't want to be surprised by a school that you've never heard of that just did a thing. We'll ask you to just turn down your radio for about 60 seconds. What just happened? While we talk about the tournament for a minute. Uh-oh. Oh, okay. And then you can pop back up in about 60 seconds. Spoiler number one. I was in the bathroom and my phone just exploded.
Wisconsin. Oh, just got smoked by a school I've never heard of called High Point. I don't even know where High Point is. That's a Colorado. Oh, okay. I heard Colorado and North Carolina. I either one of you have any clue where where High Point is. Yeah, it's in High Point, North Carolina. So we're all now frantically going. Did we pick that others? There's no way anyone picked that up. And Duke at halftime is getting smoked by Sienna. Duke is a number one. I believe they are the number one number one. Dad gummit. I picked Wisconsin. Oh, bracket. Look at you. High point. We didn't even know who you were. Didn't even know your name. What? What ranking were they? What what seed? They were 12 12, not 16, but 12. All right. Well, we typically see those kinds of things happen every year. Well, Sienna is a 16 and they are taking Duke out to the wood shit and
whooping some ass. Oh, a 16. What percentage of brackets had Wisconsin losing? Let me look at that. There's going to be some because you have to pick up sets in that first round. Oh, sure. I mean, if you have a number one go out. I'm going to get the percentage. Guess the percentage. That had Wisconsin winning 91%. Flip it around. Guess the percentage that had High Point winning. 19%. No. Four. Four point six percent of voters. They're called a lump predicted a first round loss for fifth seeded Wisconsin. Hope springs eternal. Wow. But it worked. There's just something magic about this tournament, man. Every year. So fun. It's so fun to watch. Nebraska. Thank you, Lord Jesus. It's finally over. Finally got that monkey off their back. Versus over one good thing happening with Nebraska in the past two decades. Yes. The monkey has been
thrown off the back. The curse has been lifted, thrown in whatever other cliche you want. Nebraska has finally won their first ever NCAA tournament game. Now let's go to see it. Now let's go to game two. Well, and right now, McNeese and Vanderbilt are playing. And the winner of that game is the one that plays Nebraska on Saturday. I'm excited for you. And I actually chose Nebraska just for you. But when I did it, I cursed under my breath and thought, if this is wrong, I'm going to be so mad at Scott. Well, if Duke goes out, I mean, the vast majority of brackets are done. There's a whole there's a whole lot of basketball left. So we'll see. Did you guys do the story about the Hasler that I sent you over the weekend over my pardon me 48 hours that I was gone? Listen to this you guys. Research has just confirmed that surrounding yourself with Haslers. What's a Hasler? I'm
going to tell you actually speeds up your aging process in areas like chronic inflammation and immune system impairment. Okay. The Hasler is the person in your life who creates chronic stress, conflict or otherwise drains your energy. And studies now show that each additional stressful relationship is associated with roughly nine months of faster biological aging. The Haslers in your life are literally killing you. They're the people. Let me put this in in a more generic way. They're the people who literally suck the life out of you. Yes. Okay. Yes. By nine months within your family. Let's not name names. Oh, I want to know. But do you have a Hasler in your life?
Doesn't everyone, but as we age, ladies, I'm going to ask you this specifically because our social circles tend to be wider. As we age, does your circle not get smaller? My circle is so small. I don't even think I can find it. You have got time for no Hasler. Well, I'll be honest with you. You know, because of decisions that I've made in my life, most of the people in my life, other than people at work, are recovering drugs. I would say 90% and we're not counting family. Yeah. In recovery. Yeah. 90% of the people in my life are recovering drugs. Okay. The Hasler at 1.5% faster pace of aging. I want to give you a benchmark here. I think if I have a house, compares to 13% of elevated accelerated aging caused by smoking.
So smoking will speed your end date closer to you, 13% obviously. The Haslers are 1.5. It was not quite the impact of like a smoker, but and these are it is still an impact someone in your life. Now this sense relative siblings or friends. I do not have a single relative in my life that I would consider a Hasler, but then I get out. I don't have a large family. Is it possible that if you cannot come up with the Hasler in your family, it might be you. No, I mean, it might be you. No, it's you. No, it might be you. Oh, you don't stress me out. That's not what I think. That's what I do around you is. Well, I want phones are already ringing 9135867898. Do not give out names, but you could say it's your sister-in-law and you could be like Mary from Bonner Springs. You
don't have to give your real name. And then in what way are they a complete drain? And maybe it's drama. Maybe it's financial. Maybe it's medical. Like, for example, you know, my family is small. My brother is two kids, lovely wife, whom I adore. My mother, my dad's gone. I have five cousins. Okay. Would you care to guess how many of them I keep in contact with? Probably not. Like Facebook. One. Yeah. One. So you're an outlier, Scott. I don't even have the number, the phone number of my other four cousins. I would not to get to me. Scott at our age, you do not have room in your life for a hustler. If someone entered your life, it was a disruptor. You would probably politely back away. Absolutely. Yeah. I don't have time for that. Back away. Look away. What? Where's this Chicago 18 song or something? Look away, baby. I want you to keep in mind. It's 1.5%
speeds up your ageing per hustler. So if you're listening to your thinking, oh, I can tick off three or four in my circle. You got to get rid of the hustlers. Why would you spend? Here's what I don't understand. Why would you even allow a hustler, which today is the first day I've ever heard that term, but I understand the term. Why would you even allow them time between your ears and into your life? For relatives, obviously, you can't choose your relatives. Do you have one? No. You don't think you have a hustler now? No. No. Now in my 20s or 30s, did I? Maybe I think as we get older, you kind of settle into this. I don't have time for that anymore. I have time for the drama. Even like the people in this building that I'm not particularly fond of, I don't allow them inside my head. I don't allow them in my life. I'll tell you this. I think you want to talk about speeding up ageing and the 1.5 percent. I bet that jumps to 5 percent. If your hustler is in your house, boss. Oh, well, your boss. Fortunately, I like my boss.
I know, but I'm telling you, I worked once for the one. Oh, I know. And the stress I would have just going into work, everyone would tell you that's got. It was just I was talking about who I think we're talking about. Total anxiety every time you went into work. And I'm I don't have time for that in my life anymore either. I couldn't do it. So much of our lives are deal with this newly named title of hustlers. Yeah. You know, the family drama, there's always chaos. And the person that always needs to have things fixed. And they always need the help and all of this stuff. We've everyone's been dealing with this forever. 913-586-7798, Dana Wright, Dan Weinbaum, my name is Scott Parks. You're on KMBC. Welcome to Radio Rental. The scariest stories you've ever heard in your life,
all told by real people. And off we go. This wasn't a human being there. I saw just something here in this house, something out of this world. There was a woman moving through the hall. I stepped back and I was completely alone. Radio Rental is available now. Listen for free on Apple podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. So it's a word I'd never heard of, Hassler. And these are the people in your life who, to put it simply, drain the life out of you. Always something going on. Always drama. Always problems. And do you have a Hassler or Hasslers in your life? And if so, why don't you get rid of them? Maybe they're family. Maybe they're your boss. Maybe they're your radio co-host. I don't know.
Aaron in Kingsville. Aaron, good afternoon. Hello. Hey, it's Aaron. Hey, Aaron, what's up, buddy? A couple of things first. Got me lost here today. They just dropped those back. It's today the day. Today's the day. Yeah, they dropped a thousand boxes. Immediately sold out of them. So chat GPT actually picked that spoiler because I put that on my bracket for high point. And then it's kind of like if you're the weird kid. If you're in the room and you can't spot the weird kid, you're the weird kid. So if you don't have a Hassler in your life, you're probably the Hassler. But hey, Aaron, I don't have a Hassler in my life. Does that mean I'm the Hassler? Well, yes, you were, Scott. Until recently. Well, that's true. That actually may be true. I was the Hassler up until recently. You're right. I was draining life out of people. You're absolutely right. And I'm glad I'm glad you're not anymore. So yeah, you'd go to work.
Well, that took a month long vacation in South Kansas. Sarah in Overland Park. Sarah, good afternoon. Hello. Hey, I'm surprised you don't know the word Hassler because haven't you ever been hassled by somebody? It doesn't have to be draining the life, but just bugging the garbage out of you. So they're called the Hassler, the one who did it. But yes, family member, sibling, aging parent had to go into a home and person only visits once a year and the others have all lived here for. Oh, yeah. And want to tell you what you've done wrong or how you should do it differently. And it's really hard to break away from that. But sometimes you have to. Oh, Sarah, violently, I would break away from that. I have and it's really hard. Yeah, I'm on my tarage. I'm sorry, but yeah, it happens. It happens though. And we've done the right thing and that's all the counts. Good. Sarah, good for you. Good call. Thank you for it.
Difficult relationships can trigger repeated stress responses emotionally, cognitively, and physiologically. When people regularly deal with criticism, conflict or strain in their relationships, it can and does activate the stress systems in your body over and over again. This is a quoting here from Dr. William Chopich and associate professor of psychology at Michigan State. Previous research has also shown that other chronic stressors, financial strain, food insecurity, also negatively impact longevity. Through inflammation, impaired immune function, elevated risk for heart problems and cognitive impairment. I'm just curious, you know, and back to just to Sarah's comment, when you have a hasler and I don't know that it necessarily comes from the word hassle, which has a T and hasler does not. I think they're two completely separate,
originated words, but regardless, why wouldn't you either, there are only two things I think you can do with a hasler and I fully recognize and admit that for you, for my family, I was a hasler in late 2023. There's no doubt about it. I was sucking the life out of you. I was sucking the life out of my family and I was in a downward spiral that I couldn't recover from. And there's only two things I think you can do with a hasler. And I like that word, by the way, is you either confront the hasler and you say, hey, bro, hey, sis, whatever. When you, I feel would you go to rehab? I'll get off rehab. So when you, when you have a hasler in your life and you want to keep them in your life,
because you recognize that they weren't always a hasler, right? That one time, this person who is literally sucking the life out of me was at one point somebody who gave me life, right? Who made my life worth living and made it fun. You can say, hey, bro, I don't know where it happened, but somehow you went off the wrong track. And let's go get you some help. Or if this is just somebody who's been in your life for whatever reason, you just say to them, you're toxic. Well, like our last caller, we had to write them off. Yeah. We had to write them off. And you just cut them out of your life. Do you know who the hardest I think and text us or call us if I'm wrong? The hardest hasler for most people to deal with. And you're doing this as colleague, sibling, family, Scott, that's an entire separate enchilada to me. Then if you are the product of an overbearing,
domineering, awful mother or father or mother in law, I mean, can you imagine? I think, like, I hit the parent power ball with my mom and dad. But you probably know people who have either an absent or a domineering, not even absent. I think domineering in some ways would be worse than absent, where everything you do is not good enough. Every single time you do it. And the real strain and tax that that would put on your psyche, when it's your mom or dad, someone that's supposed to be nurturing you and loving you and telling you you do a great job. And I know that you hit the power ball with your parents, Craig and Linda are fantastic. And I know for a fact I hit the power ball with my parents. And I can't imagine everything I did except a golf course my dad was proud of. And I remember I got my start in
radio, commercial radio at a tiny little station in Lawrence 95.7 KZTO. Doesn't even, hasn't existed in 30 something years. And I was a, I was an afternoon disc jockey. So I would get out of school at KU. And then I would go over and, and disc jockey on 95.7 KZTO. And our ratings were so bad. Didn't move the needle, did we? Nobody listened. Nobody listened. And I remember my dad came in town and he had retired from the military and he just came into Lawrence and wanted to hang out for an afternoon. And he was watching me on the air. And then after I got off the air at six o'clock, he said, let's go grab some McDonald's. And I said, okay. And so we go to McDonald's on 23rd Street in Lawrence. And we're up at the counter. And he goes, man, do you know who my son is? This is Scott Park from KZTO. That's so cute. And I go, Dad,
no one is listening. I go, Dad, don't do that to me. Nobody knows who I am. And he goes, I do. And I'm proud. I do. And I never, ever had a doubt in my mind how proud my dad was of what I was doing. Yeah. Even though I wasn't doing it well, you know what I mean? We were abysmal. Like when the ratings came out, we were 0.0 Dana. Yeah. That means no one's listening. Literally no one. Chris, your dad wasn't enough of a fandom of that meter. He was not. That one. It's, it's dead. He didn't have a diary. 913-586-7798-586-7798 here on Dana Parks. Hey y'all, I'm Maddie. Keep it a close eye on the duke CN again. We'll keep you posted when that game is over. That's a tight one. Number one against number 16. There's a lot of time left. Only two times in NCAA tournament history has a number 16 beat a number one 2018 when university Maryland Baltimore campus beat Virginia 74 to 54. That's a butt whipping. And then in 2023 when Farley Dickinson beat Purdue 63. That's right. Good old Farley Dickinson. Uh, some breaking business news from the Kansas
city business journal. Hula hands has announced it's going to close its Lee Wood location right there at town centers, God. 1119th and in between Rowan Null. And the property owner plans for new restaurants to replace it. I assume maybe like one of those concept restaurants where you go in and there's four different because I like over like it. The next city center. The footprint of that Hula hands is ignore. I mean, it is gigantic. Let's disappointing because solid. Always solid. I loved Hula hands. But when was the last time you went? Well, I don't live near one. And so, you know, when we when we do die now, for example, my my sister-in-law turned 50 the other day. And my brother and his family are coming into town. And we're going to Paulo and Vils, which is a great restaurant. Yeah. But it's out by us. You know, when when we're sitting around on a Saturday afternoon, we're like, Hey, you want to grab some early dinner? It's usually Nick and
Jake's because it's out by us. Listen to this. Hula hands restaurant and bar had bragging rights as the first business to open in the new town center plaza in February of 1996. The master development plan will raise the Hula hands building and redevelop the site into two buildings with four restaurants. And Hula hands has confirmed they will be closing. Wasn't it a Hula hands over in fairway where where you and I used to do it? That thing is still vacant. Is it really? Yes. They never know. That is prime real estate. I know it. I know it. I drove by the other day and thought, oh my gosh, how can they not figure that out? By the way, I am never above a correction. And I pride myself on my spelling ability. I misspelled the word hassle earlier. I said there was a T in it. SSLE. That is correct. And a texture corrected me. And so when I am wrong, I admit it. I was wrong.
And I misspelled that word growing up. My parents did not use the word hassle with respect to people. But they would use it with respect to plans. Like I don't want to drive all the way over there. And then I have to come back. That is a hassle. That is always how it was used in my family. Let's go to Chris in a lathe. Chris, good afternoon. Hello. Hey guys. Love you. Love your show. Thank you, man. Yeah. Sometimes when it comes down to it, you have to do with best your mental health and cut them out. I mean, every healthy relationship has boundaries for a reason. And there is reason for it. And if they continue to overstep it and not respect them or overstep them, I mean, you have to do as best your mental health. Amen to that. Amen. Amen. Hey, do appreciate the call. Thank you for it. Let's go to Ruth's Chris. Yeah. What is going on there? So Ruth's Chris steakhouse has a long history and interesting story about its name and a reputation for serving high quality steaks. Now it seems the restaurant wants its customers to reflect that high quality benchmark. The steakhouse website has long
assured customers that smart casual attire is strictly optional. As long as no undergarments or offensive language were on display, jeans at a nice shirt would be just fine. Okay. However, the restaurant has recently put up a notice on its website stating that a business casual dress code is not optional. It is now required. Oh, mandatory business casual. It is unknown when exactly the policy went up, but it explains that hats are no longer allowed in the restaurant. No caps. Nope. If you're found to be wearing one, you will be asked to remove it or move to the bar. Dining room guests are instructed to dress properly. No gymwear. No pool attire. And you know who they're talking to about gymwear? It's not them in. You're talking about they're talking about the Lululemon butt hugging tights, ladies. Don't go to a Ruth's Chris wearing tights. No gymwear. No pool attire. No tank tops. This news has the internet divided with some feeling uncomfortable
with these restrictions. Some find the rules offensive. Oh, please. With one commenter saying the dress code is specifically directed towards certain people, which in this day and age is deplorable. They are trying to create an atmosphere that intimidates people and drives them away. No, no, no, no, no. I'm going to stop you right there. Do you know the atmosphere that's going to intimidate someone at Ruth's Chris? It has nothing to do with what you're wearing. It's the $400 you're going to drop eating there. Okay. One reason for the reminder may have to do with the recent change in ownership. Darden restaurants, which also owns Olive Garden, bought Ruth's Chris steakhouse in 2023. We went to Ruth's Chris. Oh, man. I think when we were in Vegas, I think. I would have to ask him. And we were the only people there. We were there super early, like 5 p.m. The food is outstanding. The steak. My God is so good. But it is white tablecloth.
You know, they bring the little scraper to move your breadcrumbs off the white tablecloth. Scott, you know, the white staff, they are in bow ties. I have all the restaurants to say, please don't wear gym clothing here. Why would anyone be surprised Ruth's Chris is on that list? If you had said Applebees has come out and they don't want you wearing a tank top, all right. Applebees even exist anymore. I think there's one left here in town. Independence or something? They just knocked down the one on Johnson Drive. I'm not sure. My point is like if it was casual dining, what do you call that fast casual? You should be able to wear what you want. You're going to drop $400 on a couple of steaks and bottle of wine. When they're saying they're trying to send a message to people, it's the price that sends the message, isn't it? Now, let me play the devil's advocate for just a moment. And I'm not saying that
I agree with the words coming out of my mouth, but I am playing the devil's advocate. If I'm the one coming to your restaurant, dropping $300, $400, whatever, it's been a minute since I've been to Ruth's Chris steakhouse. What do you care what I'm wearing as long as my money is still green? I think they just want some decorum where we've lost so much of that, like on the airplane. Tell me more. Well, there's just pajamas everywhere. Was it Tampa's airport this year that came out with an entire public service campaign that said, maybe let's stop wearing pajamas to the airport. Now, they didn't ban it. They just suggested that maybe you put pants on or shorts. I have pants on there, pajama pants. Yeah. We sort of have become casual
Fridays has dissolved into something entirely different. And so for a high-end steakhouse that is going to be expensive to say, we would like our clientele to match the experience and put on some pants, throw on a golf shirt. You don't have a button down shirt. Throw on a golf shirt. Throw on a polo. Now, up until recently, the gym that I went to happen to be in a country club. Okay. Now, I, of course, did not pay country club wages. Just for the gym. You just went for the gym. I'm not a golfer. I never used the restaurant. But no hats in the formal dining room. No, that is standard. And so the, the, the, when you left the gym and you would, the locker room was between the gym and the restaurant. I rarely, if ever, walked through the restaurant, unless I knew it was completely vacant because you were wearing gym clothes. Because there was a sign on the doors that said, no gym clothes allowed in the restaurant. No street clothes.
They said no gym clothes. No swimwear. No, definitely no. And I don't have a problem with that. What is wrong with not wearing pool attire into a formal dining room? Well, I, I, again, I was only playing the devil's advocate. Yeah, no, no. And, but my, my point was simple. I'm willing to drop very good money on your restaurant. Can I ask you this? How does the very awkward conversation go? And who is in charge of that conversation? The manager. When someone shows up wearing cutoff shorts, flip flops, and a tank top. The manager. You have a reservation. You had a reservation. Is it one of those where they say, if you would be more comfortable putting a jacket on, we have some in the back now. I did go to Plaza three years ago. Did they make you put a sport coat on? Yes, they did. And I, I walked in wearing slacks. Yeah. This was back when I was the news director. And I used to wear
nice clothes to work. I walked in with slacks, a shirt, a nice shirt and a tie. And they said, sir, do you have a, do you have a sports coat? And I said, at home, it's the back of the office. I had never been to Plaza three before. And I said, I do have a sports coat. It's back at the office. And they said, we'll get you a sports coat. I wasn't even in a conversation. We'll get you a sports coat. And so I always wore blue. Blue was my suit color. And they came out with a black sports coat. I mean, I looked like I got dressed in the dark. Yeah. And I'm like, that's black. I'm never going to make that mistake again. They just can't be choosers. And they're like, sir, you have to have a sports coat if you're going to be in our dining hall. Yep. There you go. My car. Son of a beast. Ain't got me. Tom and Gladstone. Hello, Tom. Hey, how are you doing? There is an Applebee's at, I want to say, 69
come off of any North Anyok Road. Okay. It's between Gladstone and Kansas City, Kansas City, North, not North, Kansas City. Okay. But that job, you were talking to me. And I said, yeah, that one's still open. Okay. Thank you, CEO of Applebees. 913-586-7798. Jason Hyde, Dana Wright. My name is Scott Parks here on KMBC. Story here from the New York Post, Price's Wright model, Holly Halstrom. Oh, Holly? Holly was the only Brunette member. Railed against the game show's late host Bob Barker. While discussing her firing earlier this week, the 73-year-old who participated in
E's new Dirty Rotten scandals, DocuSeries declared that quote, I hate that man. Wow. Don't wait. Real quick, we have to remind everybody because when you said last week, she's talking about it last week. She was like one of the main Barker's beauties, which the misogyny, I mean, honestly, but Barker's beauties, she was the gorgeous Brunette who was on that show. Scott, how many years, 20 years? From 1977 to 1995. Wow. Oh, yeah, she is beautiful. She hates him. I hate that man. Did he get on her? I remember reading this at some point because she had gained five pounds or something. She was on the S list. Barker's S list. Yeah. When she refused to testify in court on his behalf when Diane Parker sued him for sexual harassment in 1994. I wanted nothing to do with it,
Halstrom continued. I was the only one of Barker's beauties that was asked to give a deposition and I did not. I didn't want to commit felony perjury, which is exactly what it would have been if I gave testimony. Wow. Well, Halstrom believes that this was the final straw for Barker. She noted that the network could not fire her for that. She claimed instead Barker said I was overweight and that's why I was off the show. I was not surprised that he used that as an excuse the reason and the justification for firing me. How can you say I was not fired because of my weight when I was cut at a 50% of the show and when I was on camera, I was hidden away behind automobiles and large appliances because of my quote weight problem. She told the outlet she had no choice but to leave the show after 20 years because Barker wanted her gone. Now she had not signed a non-disclosure agreement.
And then he filed a defamation lawsuit against her. So she waited until he died in 2023 to address it further. He dragged me through court. She said for 10 years until I had nothing left. She subsequently sued Barker for malicious prosecution. God, she was skinny. Look at that photo. She is so thin. Yeah. She was not overweight. Well, this bothers me because I actually liked him. When you look at the time that that was, do you not ask yourself what was going on behind the scenes there? They were called Barker's beauties. Who was the talk to your host on family feud? Richard Dawson. That would kiss every woman on the lips. On the lips. I know it's so weird.
Do you imagine, in today's day and age, the host of the Price is Right, Steve Harvey now, and not Price is Right, family feud, Steve Harvey going up to every woman and kissing, leaning over the counter and kissing them on the lips. People would be like, enough. I mean, he would not be on the show. Like there's no way. Their husbands would be standing right next to them when Richard Dawson would kiss them on the lips. Come on in here. In fact, we got to look that up. It was. It absolutely was. Didn't need the one. I think he went on to marry one of the contestants, actually. I believe that is correct. And he would always put his arm. Okay. So if you were the female contestant in the lightning round, if you like, Surrey says, name something. He would have his arms like on the women. Yes. Head down. He'd be like, I'm just going to come right over here. How we doing? He's got his little card of notes. And then he would have one hand around the waist. Remember?
Yep. Oh my goodness. A lot of celebrities these days, if you go up to get a picture with them, they won't even put their arm around you. No, just like this. They just stand there with their arms to the side because they don't want to be accused of grabbing your butt or doing something inappropriate. And they will just stand there. And they're like, hey, you smile. Keanu Reeves is really good about that. Yes. That's who it is. That's who it is. Keanu Reeves. He will put a hand out. Like, it'll look like he's got his arm. But it's like this. He never touches you. Never touches you. Duke isn't having it. Well, they're like, we're not going that. We're not going to be the third team in history. I'm sorry.
