You're listening to the Dana and Parks podcast on K M B Z. OK, can somebody explain to me the sound bite that we just heard apparently this involves some sort of meteor? Oh, yeah. They're in Ohio. They win. Boom. Boom. Boom. Was it a big ass boom? He was a big ass boom. Apparently. Who is his character? That was descriptive. It is a guy who witnessed the meteor hitting the ground.
05Where was it in Ohio, Dan? Uh, yes. You know, OK. In the Ohio. In the Ohio story. So that we're not just talking circles around absolutely nothing, right? It kind of sounded like the, the Catalina wine mixer in the movie step brothers were there. North East, Ohio, a 17,000 pound meteor confirmed by NASA 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Northeast Ohio. Nearly six feet in diameter, guys, huge. NASA was confirming that the six foot 17,000 pound meteor traveled 44,000 miles per hour over Northeast Ohio, about 50 miles above Lake Erie when the first splash was detected. Now what, what did it sound like when it, when it, when it hit it, boom. Now was it still that heavy when it actually impact the ground, impact of the ground? I'm assuming yeah, that would be the lot of it learns off in the atmosphere. I think that was the landing weight was 17,000 pounds. It sounded like this, Dan. It was just like a boom like that.
05I, I think somebody's wondering where his next one is coming from. A meteor sometimes called a shooting star is a space rock that crashes through Earth's atmosphere, according to NASA. Thank you. Appreciate that. We know the meteorite description. Yeah, that, that, that, that guy, that, that's gold for local radio and local TV interviews. Like, oh, we got the best one by gold. You mean gold slugger. Uh, NASA says that some small pieces of the meteor landed somewhere in Medina County, Ohio. Where, where has the news been on the, I mean, you would think of a 17,000 pound meteorite, hit the Earth, okay? It would be all over the news. This is the first I've heard of it. Thank you for saying it right. By the way, does meteorite want it enters the Earth's atmosphere? Thank you. It's a meteor until it does. No, so was it 17,000 pounds? They estimate like up in space and then broke apart and scattered.
09They do not confirm the specific details about when it was 17,000 pounds, but based on the fact that they said small pieces ended up in Medina County, they're thinking it broke. The reason I'm asking this, have you guys ever driven through? I think it's in New Mexico, the big meteor crater museum that's out there. Just with Arizona, Arizona. Thank you. I was just looking up the one just north of the Yucatan Peninsula that killed the dinosaurs. It's all, it's underwater. Right. That was a little bit bigger than this one. It was, uh, it was about 18,000 pounds. It was a six mile wide asteroid. Yeah, meteorite. They've been reporting up and up in Ohio. Seven ton asteroid causes massive fireball over Ohio. How big was the one that created the crater there in Arizona? Oh, pretty big. Wasn't it was not 17,000 pounds. I mean, it's not right in front of me. What did it sound like though? Well, I'll tell you if there were witnesses to the one in Arizona, and we had television back then, they would have said
15something along the lines of, it was just like a boom like that. I bought it was a bomb. It, uh, the meteor crater, uh, approximately 50,000 years ago, an iron nickel asteroid, roughly 150 feet in diameter, weighed about 100,000, two 300,000 tons. That's for minus. That would be much bigger. That would be bigger than the one that landed in Ohio. Yeah, that was a BAB. Have you ever seen pictures of the, the, um, what brand buzzby just texted me and said it's Medina? I deserve to be hit by a meteor. Wow. I'm kidding. Everybody's fine. Nobody died. I'm so offended right now. What is a Medina? Have you ever seen the impact, uh, crater site for the meteorite? Thank you. That killed the dinosaurs. No, it's, it's just north of the Yucatan Peninsula.
18Look at that. Okay. That's computer generated, though. That's not how I don't know if there's an ocean mapping view of it. They didn't have a video. Millions of years. No, they didn't, or did they, Daniel? Hmm, dumb, dumb, hmm, uh, huh? Yeah, it is, it is important. The, uh, the, the different words, the meteor is the streak of light. The meteorite is the piece that survives the journey and lands on the earth. Oh, God. And they both originate from meteorites. Small rocks are Maryland. Maryland. Scott's about to go into a roared rage here. The more you know, I'm not taking roads again. You said you've been hitting the jam. You never know. Well, I only did that one time and that was tried, that was to an attempt to lessen a pilot that was on my vocal cords. It did not work.
18Yeah. And it only made me angry. I had a rash. That's why I took, uh, steroids. Do they make you angry? Oh, yeah, aggressive, yeah, angry, but just, but agitated and aggressive. Yes, yeah. I mean, that, that roared rage is real. Yes, it is. Have you ever taken steroids? No. Oh, also it wasn't like you have not like, and not like the ones that body builders would take, you know, like pregnant zone for like, uh, you know, illness or something. What are you saying, Sam? You got a trend, God. A what trend? It never mind. No, I, Sam and I probably take the same supplements. Oh, you cheat. No, supple, you know, taking creatine is not cheating. Uh, okay, kicked out of baseball. What it? No, creatine is a natural hormone in the body. I believe, uh, what's his face from the Cardinals, um, McGuire got in big trouble for taking creatine. No, he was taking like TRT. No, creatine. No, everybody takes creatine.
19Mark McGuire squirrel. Let me look at a cheese. Kansas city is waiting with baited breath for the end. I'd be looking at Toby McGuire. Not Toby McGuire. He had to get in shape for Spider-Man. Oh, man. Um, let me see. I'm looking it up right now. Creatine considered a legal dietary supplement. Yeah, he admitted to taking the legal dietary supplement in the record breaking 1998 season to aid his weightlifting recovery. However, it was later revealed that he was actually taking a prohibitive performance enhancing substance known as HGA. HH, that's right. I said TRT. I mean, HH. But yeah, creatine not banned by MLB. See, you guys are all looking it up. I didn't have to look it up. I was sitting here waiting. And yes, text line, you're right. I misspoke. It's not a hormone. Anyway, asteroids, uh, every, uh, twice, we get really close to, uh, the asteroid
22belt and that's why you see NASA coming out twice a year with, we're all going to die because this asteroid's going to hit us. And then they're like, it missed us by a million miles. We just need Billy Bob Thornton to tell us how to get a space shuttle for one. And Bruce Willis and, yeah, two space shuttles. It's two, yeah, you always have to take two in case one crashes. I quit. I quote the movie Armageddon daily, by the way, which part it's very subtle. It's the, the scene where Owen Wilson, after they tell him about, after Billy Bob, Thornton gets up and tells him how scary it's going to be, you know, it's going to be geysers and earthquakes and all this. And he just goes, okay, scary, environment, imaginable. That's all you had to say. I took what is just like a, what is the best worst movie on your list? Best worst movie? Yes. Like I like to watch it just for the laughs. And well, not necessarily like Armageddon is my best worst movie.
22Like I recognize that it is a terrible movie, horribly unrealistic, but yet I can't stop watching. You'll watch it. Okay. And I'm entertained by it. I'm going to need, I'll get that answer to you after the break. Okay. Yeah. Your best worst movie. And I need both of yours as well. Okay. Okay. Think about it. The movie that you recognize is absolutely terrible. Okay. But you can't turn it off from the text line. This show is a case study of buffoons reading articles. Always has been well been like this for 20 years. You knew to the show. Welcome. Welcome to the dance. By the way, we're doing terrible joke Tuesday coming away at 345 this afternoon. Hi, girls. 12:28For years, gone South has been a podcast about crime in the American South. But for our new season, we're widening the lens through deeply reported narrative driven stories. We're digging into the myths, scandals and power structures that still shape the South. And in a lot of ways, the country itself, follow and listen to gone South season five, an Odyssey podcast available now on Apple podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your shows. You've had time to think about it. Your best worst movie of all time, which is to say a movie you recognize is terrible. But when it's on TV, you can't stop watching what you will you will see it on the menu, the guide and go, I'm going to watch mine is Armageddon, okay? Okay, it's a toss up. I've got two here. It's going to be a Desperado Antonio Banderis.
29And from Dust Tell Dawn, which is an early Quentin Tarantino movie, which actually the first half of it starts out actually like a pretty dang good movie is good plot. And then suddenly they walk into a bar and everyone's a vampire. And it goes downhill from there does Samuel. So Armageddon is my real life answer. I have two answers. Armageddon was one win every time I'd be flipping through when it was on. I would watch till the end no matter where it was in the movie. It could have been last five minutes, and the other one. And it's also a very real life answer that I also watched the ending of 750 times because it was on all the time was con air. Oh, that's a good one. You think that's a terrible movie horrible movie. Huh. What makes it good? So what makes it horrible? Just the whole honestly, the overarching theme of it isn't what makes it horrible. It's the fact that most of it's in a plane. Uh, I was eight, nine watching it probably didn't wasn't the best suited movie for an eight, nine year old to be watching it.
33And there's just so many other cinematic masterpieces that are way better to be spending your time watching. Like the predator over and over again, like tap gun. Hey, like idiocracy. Well, I've been, I've been blazing through some old Schwarzenegger movies. Those are so entertaining predator. I mean, come on. So good. Terminate any terminator any terminator. Well, the first three, yeah, terminator salvation. I'd never been more hyped up for a movie when terminator salvation came out, which was like 08, 0708, Christian Bale is going to be in it. The soundtrack was nine inch nail. So I'm like watching the previews. And I'm just, oh, this is going to be so good when in the theater worst movie ever. Daniel. Well, I don't know if I called the worst, but it's not very plausible or believable, but I'll watch it because it's interesting. I'd have to say both the top gun movie. Oh, oh, jeez. I mean, they're just not believable, you know, they're not really reflective of real life.
35Now, Dan has authority to say this. He's got a son in the Navy. He's got a son that's in naval aviation. You were in top gun. Yeah, but are they believable movies or not? Yeah, but every time I go down this road with you, you just hurt your feelings more. Now, we don't want to ruin the fantasy for you, but I mean, the suspension of disbelief. Are they not real? Here we go. Are they not real? Who's they? The movies. Well, they're real in the sense they were filmed float and they carry planes, which launch from those ships and land back on those. Actually, you know what, the opening, okay, so when the movie starts, the opening is the movie top gun 100% accurate. When that little like screen comes up and tells you the quick history of top gun, yeah, 100% accurate. And then after that scene, it's, it's no longer accurate. I mean, it's fantasy. That's why I continued to watch. It's fun, but it's, they're not the best movies.
40The real top gun, the real life top gun would not sell movie tickets, unfortunately. Why, give me a, give me a word. It's so studious. You're sitting around studying. It's 12 hour days. You get in before the sun comes up to get ready for your brief. You're studying numbers and threats and the adversaries and all your, you know, the different ranges. You have to memorize to employ weapons and all that. It's very, very, very bookwormish. It's schoolish. And then you get out and you fly for 0.8 hours. And then you come back and you do debrief for another four hours and it's, it's by the end of it, you're just beat up and tired and you just want to go back to your room and put a hot pocket in it. Am I going to eat it and go to bed? And there's no trophy. Yeah. Shut up, damn. Oh, fast and furious. The entire series, the entire collection. That's a good one. There you go. Fast and triple X. Love it, though. Oh my gosh. I'll watch them all. Anything with a rock in it? Just about. I'm just devastated. Hey, Scott, I'll watch the top gun anytime. I actually love the movies, though. I really do. Well, that's the whole point of the, the, the, the topic here.
47I can't say I don't like them because I saw the first one when I was a kid and that's why I became a pilot. How can I hate on that? And then you realize it wasn't what you thought it was? Um, yeah, but that sounds like a good foundation for hatred. There's no hot women on a beach. You don't follow a hot chicken to a bathroom and, like, test the counterweight. Uh, it's, uh, it's red light behaviors. What would the term they use in the military? These folks had never been to Fallen. Yeah. Or El Centro, which I told Scott how I got my call signs. I'm going to say, oh, look, a tractor. All the guys hitting down at the beach to play volleyball. Jesse rips his shirt. And they're like, what are you doing? They're all missing some teeth. Wow. This town has a leather in a fill. Pittsburgh Steelers football jacket on. Wow. These are a lot of, hey, these are a lot of details. These are specific details.
47So you're saying, like a lot of lot lizards hang around top gun. That's not the term I'm using. I'm just being descriptive of what I saw once upon a time. Huh. There aren't. You can call whatever you even label it, whatever you want. I'm just telling you there was, there's been missing teeth. And leather for the right amount for the right amount of money they would spend time with you. Is that what you're saying? Oh, this isn't Vegas Scott. Sam's story here from you from CBS news, buying that first home earlier in life. I can put you on a stronger path to building wealth according to Realtor.com. On average, Americans who managed to become homeowners before the age of 30. That's you, right? That's my girlfriend, yeah. Are $119,000 richer by the time they're 50. Hell yeah. Then people who wait until their mid to late 40s to take on the housing plunge. Yeah, it sucks that the average housing first time homebuyer age is now 42.
51Isn't this information that we have sort of known about the idea of investing early and buying the home and using as an investment? Building capital, generational wealth. Yeah, I mean, we've known about it. It's just become unattainable for, I don't know, 90% of society. Well, but you're, you must be in the 10%. I see. I'm not convinced owning a home and getting building equity home is necessarily true wealth building. Why? Well, when you factor in all the expenses that go into owning a home versus renting, and I know some, like when you do rent, like some of the expenses the owner has are built into the rent and whatnot, but you know, if you talk about property taxes and maintenance, it's got to be done and all that, you know, you know, the equity your building is really just going to be used as equity for another property. It's not something that's going to go into your pocket some day, no, sorry, unless you downsize completely and sell it and take all the equity and throw it in a bank account. And that's what we're going to do. I'll tell you this. The two best investments I ever made and this was advice I got from my dad very early on.
56He said, the second your company offers you a 401k, take it. Oh, yeah. And invest whatever you can. It doesn't matter if it's 1%, or if it's 3%, or 10%, whatever it is when they offer you that 401k, you take it. And that has been one of the best investments of my life. I'll tell you this, the other great investment of my life is the house that I bought in Western Shawnee, which has gone up in the last, I've been in that house for five years. And it has gone up over 30% in five years. So that only means something if you sell it though. Well, of course it does. But then everything else has gone up, including rents. And so it really not as far ahead as you think. And that's my point when I say wealth building doesn't necessarily equate to equity in a home. But if we plan to downsize which we do, we don't need that stupid house for just two people.
59You don't need four wings. There are five wings saying, oh, sorry, count the back one. Did you guys install a tornado shelter in the backyard yet? We should have. Sorry guys, I'm sorry I started it again. Every time I come in here, I'll be all you want. I'm the only person on this show that survived a tornado. You know, you guys didn't respond when the, when the F zero hit the other a couple weeks ago, over on what, like, Lisa on that, where was it again? No, Shawnee. It's starting. East in Casey, I sent you guys a text. I said, Scott, you should start a support group with your fellow Kansas Indians that have now survived a tornado as well. Why do I feel like I'm in an okay goat music video right now? Here it goes again. Have you been in a tornado? Yes, I've actually been in bequites and under one. It literally rolled right over me as I was seeking shelter in a, in a car wash. A car wash. Is that really safe? Well, no. Because that could have sucked you out. I mean, that Venturi effect in the little car wash tunnels.
00Like being under a bridge. Mm-hmm. There was my first few months here. Yeah, I was very exciting. That's one way putting it. That car crash was really exciting too. Commander Jesse Reed and for Dana Wright on KMBZ. Did you see the Led Zeppelin documentary? I haven't seen it. No. All right. It's good. It's good. If you're a Led Zeppelin fan. I have a handful of Led Zeppelin records, CDs. And some of their music I really like. I respect their talent. They're kind of like Nirvana to me. They're hard to listen to from me, but I respect what they do. Hard to listen to. As a drummer, I'm surprised to hear you say that. John Bottoms won the greatest. I mean, that track right there. That's the very first track of the very first album. And he comes out screaming with the double bass drum on one foot.
03Nobody had ever heard that before, I don't think. He's horribly talented. He was horribly talented. Yeah. It's really entertaining, though, because it shows how they all came together. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were studio musicians just doing. And I realized this Jimmy Page did solos on all these famous artists, as a studio musician. He did uh... Yardbirds, wasn't he? He was in the Yardbirds. Do the Yardbirds or whatever. But you know, that song, Sunshine Superman by Donovan. He did the guitar solo on that. He was a guest guitarist on all these famous British songwriters. Anyway, but they get together. And by the time they had finished their first tour for that first album, they still didn't even really know each other. They all just kind of got thrown together and met each other and kind of learned who they were on the road. After they recorded their first album, that was pretty entertaining. We did a GNR documentary the other night. Can't remember if it was on Hulu or Netflix. But you, well, I don't forget, but you're reminded of just how
05diabolical and wasted these guys were. I mean, it was almost like they were in a race to see who could kill themselves first. Yeah. Just the drinking, the drugs. Steven Adler, the drummer who was fired after the second record, lies, lies, lies. I don't know if he has what's called wet brain. I'm being serious. But to watch an interview with Steven Adler is borderline painful and reminds me, don't ever do that again. Is it like watching Ozzy in his later years speak? Well, it's worth it's worse. Okay. I mean, he something happened to his brain. I mean, he sometimes when you get kicked out of guns and roses because you're drinking too much. You know you're drinking too much. We're worried about you, man.
05I mean, he was literally kicked out of guns and roses because he drank too much. That's nuts. And then to watch an interview with him, it's just like, oh, and I just the whole time we were watching over the weekend on Sunday because everybody was snowed in and frozen in. And I'm just like, baby, let's find something on TV that's good watching. So we started watching JNR. And I'm just like, don't ever do that again. Yeah. Because by the grace of God, by the grace of God, that's me someday. I know you'll like this one. I'm going to mention it. I know we'll move on here in a second. I watched the Nickelback Netflix documentary. I thought it was great. It was so good. You know, here's the thing. And they talk about how they're the most hated band and I just don't get it. I get it. They're not, you know, they're very formulaic. But man, they crank out hits. Here's the, here's the deal. And I'm almost repeating something I heard on on Johnny Deere show years ago.
05But I have a Nickelback fan. Everybody says they hate Nickelback. Until, until Nickelback shows up at the T-Mobile Center. And it's sold out. I saw him once. I saw him right after a graduating college and they're, the first out, it was like their second album, but it just really taken off. And as you know, this is how you remind me and all the hits. And I mean, there's fire shooting out of there's pyro techniques. It was such a good concert. And, you know, the girls are sitting on dude's shoulders, throwing their garments. Were they in the round? I saw him up in Delaware. Oh, okay. Yeah. I've only seen them twice. Once was in the round and it was just fantastic. But like I said, and you know, to, to borrow a phrase from Johnny Deere, everybody says they hate Nickelback until tickets go on sale. It is a show. Sam, are you, you're into country? Have you heard of this guy Riley Greene? Oh, yeah, for sure. Is he a, is he a big name? Not huge, but he'll sell out of stadium. Okay. Riley Greene was left bleeding after a disgruntled fan
06through a phone at him on stage. Holy moly. In a video posted to social media, the country star was caught off guard while performing in Melbourne, Australia, when a phone was suddenly thrown from the crowd, clipping the musician in his ear. Shocked Greene paused the show, asked his crews to turn the house lights on in an effort to identify the thrower. With the help of the crowd, they pointed straight to the fan through him out of the show. Fan is a generous word for this person. Uh, Riley Greene was quoted as saying, this one right here, get his fat ass out of here, go on. Oh my gosh. Why would you? Okay. So your front stage to be able to reach the guy on stage with the phone. Need five stitches, by the way. You got to be close. So that guy, whoever that person was, that fan got there early, fought their way to the front, paid money for ticket and then decided I'm going to throw this at the person on stage either.
08Do we think this was a dude? No, that's a great. We don't know. Oh, I guess I was assuming. Good. Thank you. Well, he did say get his fat ass out of here. Okay, okay. So I'm assuming it's a guy. I mean, there's some of those concert weirdos like, uh, when I was working promotions, uh, we did a lot of shows up at what is now, guitars and Cadillacs. He used to be one block south. And so I would sit in that little backstage room during the show because I didn't want to be in the crowd. And you know, these were smaller bands. It's a venue that holds 150 people. The whole front row was like four dudes just standing there, Facebook live streaming the whole concert. Can I just say Sam, you're the most you're the most interesting guy in the world, by the way. Why? Because you have all these other careers and cool endeavors you've done. You're like, back when I was you're like, guys are so say in that movie, the usual suspects. I was like, I was picking beans and Guatemala. Well, thank you. So maybe it was one of those situations where it was just one of these hyper obsessed dudes,
09but I was kind of picturing because he's, uh, one of those artists that the girls kind of fawn over. Uh, so that's kind of why I asked, do we know it was a dude? But still, if you're faunting, why would you throw a phone at somebody? Also a great question. Maybe, maybe it's like, please record yourself on my phone. Take a selfie. Yeah, a lot of artists will go up to the front of the stage, grab a phone, take a selfie with it. Morgan Wallen, uh, you know, he's had a couple of controversies where he was taking selfies, specifically with women who would fawn over him and then somebody would throw their phone. We're dropping the end word. Okay, well, we were talking about throwing phone. Oh, no, no. He also allegedly has never been confirmed, although he was convicted for it through a chair off of a Nashville bar. Morgan, well, yeah, well, if he's been convicted of it, I think he did it. Well, there's after his conviction, there was some body cam footage that came out that led you to believe that even police were like, no, it wasn't him. But he was an easy target. That was right after his inward thing. Anyway, we were talking about throwing phones,
09not the end word or chairs. And he was, he was known if somebody threw a phone at him and it was not organic where he would go up and take the selfie. He would just grab the phone and just chuck it back stage as hard as he could. Oh, really? He'd never get in the phone back. No, kid. You throw your phone at me, it's gone. That serves you right. Have you guys seen the footage of him on the voice as like a young guy? No. And he got, yeah, there's a video he was a contestant on the voice years ago before he became big. And didn't even make it past like the second or third round. Really? Yeah. He was one of the guys that would go down to one block south quite a bit. I got to have lunch with him a couple of times long before the inward incident. And he was just a back when you're in promotions or okay. He was just a redneck baseball player. So he's so he's legit.
