So we were kind of kicking this around on one day, well, we're having the discussion about, you know, that flag football event that was taken place earlier or over the weekend and kind of discussing all the feedback and the highlights and everything that came along with it. By the way, fun fact, RG three is actually received an offer to try out for the flag football, the US flag football team. Apparently, that's exciting. They have some world championships this summer in Germany. And so RG three is going to get an opportunity to try out for it. And if that's a case, I mean, why don't we just call this the big three? Like if that's what we're doing, because it just feels like this, this is almost an opportunity for players that aren't in the league to maybe get back in and get one more moment of glory. And so then I just, it feels hit one more moment. It's squeeze that last one. I got a squeeze.
I mean, I don't, I don't, RG three is doing great. He's, you know, he's, he's broadcasting at Fox. He does great. Like I, that should be enough. I mean, everything didn't work out in Washington, but getting lined. It's not, not his fault. Bad stuff happened. Bad luck. But, you know, he wants to go do the, the, the flag football thing. And so maybe it'll work out for him. But one of the other stories that we were kind of discussing is, you know, Tom Brady's desire to be a part of it. And you wonder whether or not he's still got the itch. And Tom Brady was talking with CNBC. And they asked him whether or not he's given any consideration or reached out about a potential return to the NFL. And he had this to say, funny enough, you ask, I actually have inquired. And they don't like that idea very much. So I'm going to leave it at that. We explored a lot of different things. And I'm very happily retired. Let me just say that too. So I love being out there playing in the flag game.
I love not getting hit. I've got a lot of really fun things I'm involved in. And it's never going to be old, you know, and get old thrown passes to incredible athletes on the football field. But if anything, that game reconfirmed to me that I'm very happy in my retirement. So when he says that the NFL didn't like the idea very much, a league spokesperson told CNBC that there would also quote, be salary cap issues. If an active player who owned a stake in a team, I decided to want to come back and play whatever that means. I'll just do it myself. Okay. Well, I'm also thinking like, all right. So we inquired about coming back, but he's happily retired. But he inquired about coming back. So you're not happily retired. It's a contradictory and it's a nothing more on two. And even then, it's like, all right. Well, if we dig into that more, oh, we don't know no digging that more.
Okay. Well, it's just like, why didn't they dig into that more for did they? We just didn't play it. I just, I just also wonder. I mean, I don't think there's any way that the league would let a guy, even if it's a minority owner, go back and play. There's just, there's too many things. Would that would be a conflict of interest? You'd think and that's where, you know, again, I don't know if he was trying to inquire about going back and playing for the Raiders. I mean, this is really venturing into Jackie Moon Territory with Will Ferrell and I'm just, I'm just saying, like, that's, it feels like preventing towards a real life Hawaiian tropics, you know, movie clip where I don't mean, Will Ferrell comes in and plays as well. Maybe plays Tine End or something for the Raiders. But that's, that's where my mind goes. I'm like, what are we doing? Like, why hanging up in the first place? It's grown cows. And great. And I get it when like Fox has that job waiting for you. I get why it's enticing too.
I mean, that's one of the crazy things is what 37.5 million is getting paid per year. Yeah. I mean, there's guys who are making now in the 40s, 50s. Like we just, you know, bigger may feel rumored to reset the market at the quarterback position at like 62. It's the last report I saw about that. Did he make it anywhere close to 37 in his career, playing football? I think there's a couple of years where he was kind of around that or maybe above that. But, but, you know, the point is he's probably looking at saying like, yeah, I could go in for a few years and make that much. You know, especially get those guarantees. Kirk cousins just got it at his stage of his career, often injury with Atlanta. You got 90 million guaranteed. So there's, there's definitely things better than them at his age. I mean, that in mind, like he, in his mind, and you could tell by the way, he was throwing the ball in that flag game, he clearly believes he's still got it. The inquiry is again, I mean, I was joking.
I'll do it myself. The inquiry of, you know, coming back with that be plausible. I would assume would be what you're asking. Am I able to come back and play for my team like the team? I can't imagine that he would fix his face to say, can I come back and be a free agent or somebody wants me to come help their team? Can I go play for them? I can't see him that there's no way that could be sensible. It would have to be the Las Vegas Raiders and could he come back and, and see if he could help them. And, and with that being said, you guys have the number one pick. So unless you're not a buyer in Fernando Mendoza, like, or, or Lofsky, and, and, but then you would be hiring Thai Simpsons to, to, to be your quarterback at
one. I don't, all I'm thinking right here right now is it is a, it is a, it is a contradiction to here. You say, I, you know, I asked about being able to come back, but I'm happily retired. Like, no, you're not. Well, what are you going to frame it as? I'm coming back as a necessity. Nobody needs you. The league does not need them. Damn. No, no, no, no, no, no, like, understand this. That is not geared towards being a slight towards Tom Brady. The shield is the superstar of the National Football League. That will never be a singular brand that, that is going to make or break how the shield operates and how it works. It went from Tom Brady to what? Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers to Patrick Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes. And then now it's like Josh Allen.
Like, there's always going to be the next man up. And so there's no reason to stress yourself out, Tom. Like the league is going to be just fine without you, bro. It ain't hurting businesses up. We were just talking about valuations of teams and it ain't slowing down. The league didn't take a large step back when Tom, you know, went into retirement. It's just not, it's just not built that way. All right. So Phillip Rivers comes back and, you know, a couple of me, it was, it was kind of a joke to me like, really, I don't think you look bad, man. People were trying to be positive about it, but it's all qualifiers. He's got 1100 kids. He's got to get new health insurance. What do you want from that? I mean, great for him. Here's the problem when, when Riley Leonard came back in, it, in the way he played and pushed the ball down the field, you're kind of like, what were, why, why do we bring back
Phillip Rivers? I mean, that was, that was my honest take on that is, I'm not sure what the hell Chris Bound, Shane Steak and Saul, where they didn't want to give rather Leonard a chance. And who knows what would have, you know, happened the end of that season, though, at least the way he played in the final game, like, I just watched it. I'm thinking myself, what, wait, what, why did you, why did you feel like you couldn't put Riley Leonard in based on how he played? He played great on the stretch or that, you know, final game. I would have been like, release me, y'all, like, excuse me. Can, can we talk? Okay, so I heard through the locker room, I won't say no names, but I heard that you guys are contemplating bringing Phillip Rivers in to play on this team. I heard he was here for a tryout. I heard he was in meetings. I'm just, you know, as a professional, he seemed like he was pissed at the time. He was playing cool, but he seemed like he was a professional.
Like, can you guys release me? Can you trait me? Like, because what you're doing is, is embarrassing me. And, and for me, as a professional who puts in a lot of time and a lot of effort to be what I can be, to be on your roster and back up our starter, you're supposed to be prepared for your opportunity. When you hired me, you're hiring me, saying that I need to be prepared for the opportunity and in the case that our starting quarterback goes down, he did go down and you're bringing back a guy who's coaching football. That's, that's like not in shape. He's old and that's what you're going with. Like, and then sometimes we don't get that deep into the story, but I mean, imagine the impact that had on him, you know, but anyways, that's,
that's off to a, to a whole another topic. But I, I think in Tom Brady's case, watching the way that dude was doing his timing, the dude was dialed in. Like, it was not casual at all. This was not, oh, I'm happily retired. It's just nice to get out here, get the ball in my hand, oh, throw some big gay on it. Oh, like, let's go get a beer, guys. Like, Grunk looked like the retired dude that was playing flag football. He pulled his hammy. I think Grunk pulled his hammy. Yeah, he was drinking beers, pulled his hammy every day. He was dehydrating because he's boozing. But Tom Brady was out there, deal. Okay. So let me ask you this because I think, and I asked you this earlier in the week, but you got to fess up at this point. Okay, enough's enough. Was it the leg sleeve or the glasses?
Yeah, I want to know because something of, but one of those two things, I think he's definitely the leg sleeve to me. It's definitely the leg sleeve. Like, what a brunt. Like, come out, you could have had on some sneakers, man. Like this dude came out like it was the super bowl. And I mean, he's a winner. He's, he's, he's the ultimate winner. I mean, he's, I mean, he, he's got a win. They got the rassus. But I'm saying, period, like, in retrospect, which makes it, which makes it really funny. It makes it funny that they got their asses kicked because he is the ultimate competitor, ultimate winner coming out there. He came out there to win and they didn't win. But I, I don't, you know, to me, again, and it proves the point flag is different than, than regular football. Because if by standard, we say, okay, flag football, people won in this game.
Why aren't you looking for people who are good at flag football to play in regular football? Why has that become like a trend? You know what I mean? Like, I don't, it's, it's very different. So the skill sets, the things that, that you do to be good at flag. It's just, it's different than regular football, like some people think, oh, well, it's past its catches receivers, it's quarterbacks, but, and that's true. But it's still, there's different nuances to how you do different sports. And flag football to me is a different sport than tackle football. So, but anyways, Tom Brady, you're not happily retired. I don't know what it is that is, is in your system or in your mind that you're, you're fighting for, fighting through. But if you want to give me a call, somebody plays you this segment, you know, you want to text me up or get my number from somebody, hit me up, man. We can talk, like we could talk through it. Look, I think if he comes, it's okay to move on.
But if he, if he doesn't want to move on, and he wants to come back and play, that's cool too, but I, I don't understand the, yeah, I reach, I reach time to move on. Okay, but if he can still play and you, and, and you have a window of time here that you can still do it at a somewhat high level, I'm okay. That when Philip Rivers came back, I thought it was awesome. Look, they, they're cool. He wants to come back and play. It was a fun story. I need an apple. It was cool for a week. But again, then when you saw the contrast of what Riley looked like, I was like, Oh, all right. Now, maybe they heard through like, I don't know why the colds didn't get more flack for that. It got swept under the rug. It did. It was like, because you got people like Jonas out here. Well, really like to see, yeah, if he can still play, let him play. Like, what do you understand? Like, like, bro, like at some point, Mufasa is not going to be able to maintain the pride, bro, there's going to be a younger, stronger line that comes over and takes all them, them line, this isn't and gets rid of all his cubs.
Like, you're not going to be able to protect the pride forever. You're going to have to leave. You got to leave them young lines are coming. Like, that's just the law of nature. Like, it's time when it's time, it's time, you know, then that's the reality of it. And it's always been that way. And it's always going to be that way. It's inevitable for every single athlete to transition into being a washed athlete. Like, that's the bottom line. That's just, listen, if Tom, if you're listening to this, you probably are accepted. If you want, if you want to come back, man, I support you. And, and you can wear whatever you want. You can wear leg sleeves, reflective sunglasses. You can hang out a dongey. I did a leg sleeve body. So much, Jonas, it didn't bother me. Yeah, I felt like it bothered La Bar because I, you like to put that mirror links. I didn't bring it up. Here's the thing is you and I, we've never seen Jonathan shorts. I guarantee you, I guarantee you he's wearing leg sleeve or he's got a leg sleeve on
underneath his jeans. No, it's too baggy. And he's, he's waiting, he's waiting to break it out at some point. And he sees us. A too baggy for my calves. Yeah, it would fall off. Yeah, there's no, I, there's nothing going on those legs. Jonas has never worn a pair of shorts. Now that you mentioned it, I've never seen his legs. Not that I've ever paid attention to the idea of having seen your legs. Or, yeah, man, that was a very, very, yeah, hated that moment. I just hated that moment. Really bad. Is that a vampire quality, though? Like, now that I think about any vampire, I've never seen a vampire like, yeah, what, what vampires are wearing? Vampire shorts. Yeah. Dang it lost boys. Why aren't they, why aren't they on a beach? And they always had like Jean Jack, not thinking about it like they never wore shorts. Damn, right. It's the way we operate. Dang. That's interesting. But the, the other thing too is that when I do wear shorts of outside and like, you'll
never find with my shirt off, it's never going to happen. So I've got to wear like a, like, the closest all comes. So you never go into a pool. Yeah, but I, but I wear a, like a shirt top on when I go, when you go into the pool, yes, like a, a, a swim type shirt top on, you, wait, you're one of those guys. Yeah, I have to, you're one of those guys. Well, look, I told, I told you guys, I told you guys the story. Bro, you, there's a, that you're different. Well, there, there's a, there's a, there's a, there's a, there's a family history that needs to be accounted for that, you know, nox is in the sun, not great. Could end up really poorly. And so there's been, you know, I've had to get some things removed and whatnot because the sun doesn't cooperate with me. So, but hey, I still want to let nature take its course, bro. Sorry. Yeah, but you don't have to worry about that. I don't have, I don't have that worry in that category. But I'm just saying if it was a different category where what applies here and, and
how you're saying justification of what you're doing, I'm taking the physical challenge. Yeah, I listen, I'm not going to get melanoma. And then when I get to the gate, say, you know what, raging waters was worth it. That's why it was a kid at raging waters. It was worth it. He's got to learn sooner or later. I pay, I bought the tickets. You don't like the attire. Go find a new parent. All have to translate that. I cannot believe you're one of those guys. Yeah, I have to. I haven't even put a shirt on health concerns like. Yeah, I know. You're a Lucy is what you are. What's that mean? Oh, listen, yeah. You know what it is. You said, who's he? What I have not wanted a shirt on a swimming pool since I was probably five or six years old, like sunburn for being in Florida. And I think my mom maybe put on like a white t-shirt to go in because it was, we went to play in the pool. There was still so sun. Oh, what's out of T-shirt? I mean, this is a, you know, No, no, no, no, no, no.
Jonas, Jonas, no sleeves. Jonas, we understand. We, we under, but you're not at sea world working in like the dolphin exhibit where you're in the water with the dolphin. Like we get it. You're not surfing. You're not like this is, this is an old time move on your point. Yeah, that, and it's correct. You're a 100% of leg sleeve guy too. No, I, I don't have leg sleeves. I don't, I mean, I'll get some if you want. You're a 100% a woman That's what you are Every every precaution and step that a woman goes through and pre and dorm So every time you get a pool you put one of these swim shirt things on Yeah, by the way, I've told you rumble gets $10 million a year. I'm getting a sex change. Yeah, out of context, but no It's got no sleeves entire process, but it's got no sleeves So and it's and it's very wearing it Jonas because I can't arms aren't as important as your body I get I can't get the the front and the bag can't be exposed to sun telling you but your arms can be
Yeah, your arms are built different than the rest of you correct Weird I'm telling you It's probably not a comfortable conversation to have on air, but I'll text you guys, you know Yeah, no, I get I get the whole what you're going with and that but I don't That's it's weird, bro Yeah, weird Hey, what's not weird? Yeah, you're a let's see. Yeah, you got your a C right here right there. Yeah right right there That's what that is see that right there. It's the biggest piece of dog that i have ever heard These are the worst things that you've heard this week Try patty speaks. Oh, yeah, let's go. All right, everybody. It's time for the worst things you've heard this week And I got a couple for you guys here. Let's start off first with michigan So michigan defense coordinator Jay Hill was that just a normal presser
Just for doing for the michigan wolverines and things got a little awkward Maybe he Haven't too talked to a female reporter and well patty patty. Let's just hear the sound. Yeah. We'll just hear the sound We'll judge from there give a listen here The best looking one of the bunch just so you know for sure Yes Should shoot your shot. Oh, yes. Yeah, it is not too soon. I mean Did you do too soon? Hey, that's you know, part for the course. What do we look? Let me just say this Jay Hill Good guy. I don't think there was anything by this. Okay, from all my interactions. He's a he's a very good defensive minor coach He's an outstanding guy very nice guy. I think this got Taken the wrong way But to LaVar's point timing man
Yeah, that is one of those moments where I think How do you not recognize how that might come off with everything that's gone out of michigan that feels like Maybe not not the best best thing in the world It would be like if robber craft went out and signed to Sean Watson or Justin Tucker I think everyone look at that and go really dude Based on the history that's what I hang out more huh or had a whole bunch of orchids in front of Gillette stadium, you know Orkids on nature By the way, just be bad timing Michigan's also gotten some flak this week for some of their hires Which I mean come on folks some of these people have been with Kyle Woodingham and he brought his staff with him But of course because they hire you know what appear to be attractive females Within their program Everyone's taking issue with like oh, no, you know, this is what Schroen or Schroenmore had or you know, this is You can't do this like how are you to it's like come on like there's just calm down folks like other people have been able to run a program and not have
These sort of issues going on so And you'll be the same people that talk about there's not enough inclusion like Right, you know good-looking women need love to like hello Don't don't don't discriminate. Oh, we're going to hire all ugly people like what's that look like and by the way like Love your your work ethic. Love your resume. Love where you graduated from totally qualified, but uh You're too pretty. I'm sorry We're gonna have to go in a different direction right now like what I doubt that and also It's a good way to test the will of some of the other staff members like you roll in a rocket ship and see you can keep your hands off I like it It's it's almost like it to me. It's like the the You know The gay conversation like just because the person is That doesn't mean that they want you like
Stop making it about you Yeah, like relax Like people saying my reasoning for this is oh, they're looking at me like no, they're not bruh Yeah, ugly. You're not you're not cute. You wanted a big ugly dude. You're just fine Like stop making it about you, you know, if that woman is beautiful. She's beautiful like Somebody made that beautiful woman. She should not be discriminated against for being pretty like that's wild to me. Come on Yeah, yeah, leave it already. What else we got? Yeah, what else what else? All right. I've got to outrage is the outrageous I think I got it good. Well, there there is actually something that's different here But it is also equally as outrageous. We have sound number two from a mister cam scataboo Taking off like okay, we're on the room. I can just play. Yeah, exactly. You think CT's a real thing. No It's an excuse. I think as much an excuse to yeah, is that a hot take? No, that's a good day
Oh, is there anything worse than when you're in fourth grade someone's huffing and puffing You're just soft. Yeah, I just literally be better with air Breathe here I mean this did not go over well with the masses. Oh Gerald McCoy got he did not like it at all his response was was pretty Direct I mean listen He's He's just cut different man like in and Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes is not such a good thing. Is he touched? He oh that is all the way touched Cam scataboo is all the way touched. Yeah, that's that's If you were wondering what level of meathead he's on That probably confirmed
He can't even spell that extra he's got extra credit meat hit written on him bro Like that is one of the wildest deals ever Like Like dudes suffer from brain traumas bruh like they do And people suffer from I have family members and and people that I've been close to During my time that have had asthma It's definitely a real thing. Oh, yeah, you're seeing somebody with asthma who doesn't have you can't find their inhaler They start to panic. It's because you're going to die If you don't think you don't find your inhaler And get that like that solution and that that steroid or whatever it is that you're inhaling Because there's different ones. I used to have to do a Bit or all what is it called cue a bit or all I believe yeah, you're all yeah, yeah, I did the treatment I used to do to treatments as well because of
You know my my breathing so it is very real so but Again, that's a part of his his brand. That's it's all right for him I was gonna say this is actually a learning lesson for him and I think You know players have maybe he's grown up in and he understands social media and and that everything he says and does is gonna be screwed Now so he's grown up during this This era where that's what your life is as a professional athlete I think what he's gonna realize though and what I what a lot of people and a lot of these younger people who are now professional athletes Fall victim to Is they forget that you got to keep the main thing the main thing Like how you play being out there on the field the manner in which you play That's the personality that people care about the most. I know people are gonna get upset with me saying this But no one gives a crap about your thoughts off the field and everything else. They really don't they're they're gonna say They do and they're gonna have you on a podcast and then you when you say something like this
You're gonna have to issue an apology which obviously cam scat of who did So That's usually the track of how this works and I'm not saying this because like This is more advice and and I'm only saying this because There's enough people that once you get out of the game like you kind of still people show their true colors You know, they're not gonna care to hear his opinion on different stuff So like just stay focused on keeping the main thing the main thing play as long as you can as successful as you can And try not to create too much of a story anything else that might mess up any opportunities post career Because that's the hard part is You know, if he has issues with injuries and everything else And he doesn't have the career he wants to have what are people gonna remember? They're gonna remember comments in moments like this. They're not gonna remember how much funny was to watch it There's on a state around much fun. He was to watch as a rookie within your giants Yeah, and to poop in a kooa. Hope you're listening. I keep your mouth guard in next time Hmm Hi, all right patty. What else we got shoot shot? All right, so you know, I have a bonus one here for us Brady
It's actually John calipari and this is a audible here John calipari took some clear shots just recently. Let's give a listen here You know, we're all in the same boat right now There are a lot of people have no I how about this you have no recruits You have no idea who's coming back You don't have the money you had a year ago You do not and now all of a sudden you're trying to keep guys Figure out who else out there wants to come and who wants to put like a bidding war which we wouldn't Be involved in so you know So that was coach cow clearly taking a shot at seemingly Kentucky and mark Pope for making a few comments earlier What was that a shot at? I don't know that that was the shot at that. I think there's a bigger conversation there patty probably the worst audible You've made yet, but that being said No, we'll get to this at some point
But a much bigger conversation to be had about you know, how people are trying to put on Control of the reins of of spending and everything else Cody Campbell just did a podcast talking about that that these It's not sustainable where we're at right now. What's being spent on athletes and athletic departments It's just not sustainable right now. So Not the way the model is set up if they started if they started taking the Moneys that the sport actually brings in and generates it would be enough It's not enough. It's not sustainable Because the money that's going to the schools or wherever it's going That amount of money from the television deals isn't going into the players. I mean, not are they did the 25 million thing and that's it whatever but At some point there's going to have to be a very real conversation if if paying players is never going away And that's now the new norm then these media rights deals have to be
Connected to the the sport that is Getting that deal if it's for football then if you're If you did a however Million hundreds of millions dollars deal then that's has to go into your players You're going to have to create salary caps you're going to have to create unions You're going to have to create all the things that professional athletics has And and people need to stop playing around about the conversation. That's all that says the indications are there You know the signals are there It's a professional league get used to saying you're you're paying your your employees get used to saying it You're trying to stay away from the liabilities. You're trying to stay away from the whole oh well. They are students Yeah, you are a student But you know Their employees and and that is a job and you're going to have to start figuring out How to pay them from all the money you're generating from these TV deals just like the pros do
We got a wow, we don't have time for one more. Do we have one more in the in the holster? All right, all right well Hey, I will believe we will get to that it to some point here on the show It is two pros and a cup of Joe here on Fox Sports radio of our airing tin Brady Quinn Jonas. was wearing gold cleats at his first IU practice And uh Kurt Signetti the head coach there Not a real big fan of the fashion choice and had this to say I love those gold shoes he came out in the day You learned what getting your ass ripped is all about I don't know if that happened to very often mission state that was before practice started And that was a wake up call But No, he's really worked hard Done great job for this one So whatever you got going on at Michigan State Dude, can you tell how much he loved it Like Var like he you can tell he loves getting into a ripping into it Like that was set up perfectly like the star Transfer portal player gets there You know, you want to be part of your culture all the stuff and before practice just absolutely There's some apart And you can tell how much joy he and he was like giddy at the microphone talking about it I love it I wonder if he let him keep him on or did he send them in to take him off I think he made him change them
I think he did yeah Which someone did point this out because Nick Marsh was a player that potentially looked at going to Notre Dame which I think Notre Dame is fine in the how state transfer portal players But they said if you want to wear gold shoes every day you could just want to Notre Dame Which is kind of true So that is true Almost as if it was a plant like hey, don't you want to keep those gold cleats on Don't worry about it And then bring them out there and just light them up Right I just want to know who sent them up Like which player which like who sat them Oh man coaching and like that like we've all been in a program where Someone tried to warn you And then you still did something and you got your ass chewed out for it I mean remember the brand that before did you Oh what did you do So they had color-court-nated jerseys when I was in school and the starters had Um our starters had dark blue And as a freshman Like you had Maroon and then you had orange and orange was like the last team
That's that's your like fourth The fifth whatever string And I had orange jersey in my in my locker And someway somehow I found a way to get a dark blue jersey And I walked up that walked up the practice And I've not only got chewed out by coaches I got chewed out by players They were not okay What did you swap it out?
