0:50
Last week we talked about mitochondria.
0:53
So if you want to learn more about the power plants of the cells, how to improve, go back
0:59
and listen to the last week's episode.
1:01
This week we are going to be talking about how to reset your hormones.
1:06
So what if your low energy, your poor sleep, and your stubborn weight gain aren't separate
1:13
What if they are symptoms all of the same root cause?
1:16
Yeah, so today we're going to be talking about the hormones, but not in the way you usually
1:24
There's no prescriptions, no injections, no quick fixes.
1:29
Yeah, we're going to be breaking down how to reset your hormones naturally using the
1:34
same strategies that are recommended by the top experts in neuroscience, longevity, and
1:40
Yeah, if we get this right, then really everything improves in our lives, like sleep, our mood,
1:48
our energy, and even our metabolism.
1:51
All right, so let's jump into the first segment here and we'll talk about what the top
1:59
So if you look at leaders like Andrew Huberman, Peter Atia, and Sarah Gottfried, they all
2:05
converge on a powerful idea, and that's that hormones are not controlled by willpower.
2:11
They're actually controlled by signals.
2:14
Yeah, our bodies are constantly asking us like, what time is it?
2:21
Should we burn energy or store it in our hormones respond accordingly?
2:28
So when people say my hormones are out of whack, what they really mean is my environment is sending
2:36
So at this point, we'll go ahead and jump into segment number two, which is the modern
2:41
hormone disruption loop.
2:43
So a normal day for people, right?
2:46
Usually we wake up and immediately we're checking our phones.
2:51
There's no sunlight in the morning.
2:53
So again, not getting that sunlight that we're needing.
2:57
Coffee replaces our breakfast.
2:59
So we have a cup of coffee, and then we end up sitting all day.
3:03
We eat late in the afternoon or late at night, still scroll once we get home from work
3:10
or just on a normal day, we're scrolling at night, and then we get poor sleep.
3:16
That all sounds like chaos to me.
3:19
Yep, that definitely sounds like chaos, and it leads to elevated cortisol at night, suppressed
3:32
melatonin, poor insulin control, lower testosterone, or estrogen balance.
3:38
This creates that cycle, so bad sleep, then worse hormones, worse hormones, bad sleep.
3:47
All right, so we've gone to that part.
3:51
The five-level hormone reset is what we'll jump in next, so let's simplify this.
3:58
According to research, you can reset most hormonal imbalances using five core levelers.
4:03
So the first level lever would be light.
4:07
So your circadian anchor, Andrew human men's work, right?
4:14
He says that morning sunlight exposure tells our brains that we're going to start that hormonal
4:22
All right, and then within 30 to 60 minutes of waking, you want to get outside, do five
4:28
to 10 minutes, longer if it's cloudy.
4:31
This regulates the cortisol spike, good in the morning, melatonin release, later at night.
4:38
And then to continue helping with that circadian rhythm at night, we want to do that opposite.
4:43
So dim our lights, reduce our screen time, you're telling your body, it's time to wind
4:50
All right, number two, sleep, the hormone reset button.
4:55
So what we're looking here for is doing your deep sleep, your body releases growth hormone,
5:02
repair cells, reset insulin sensitivity.
5:06
And poor sleep does opposite, so if we don't sleep well, you might notice that raised
5:12
cortisol, which then increases our hunger hormones and decreases our recovery.
5:19
Consistent sleep and wait times might be the most underrated hormone hack.
5:24
So then getting into number three, the nutrition timing or how we control our insulin.
5:31
So from a metabolic standpoint, insulin is one of the most powerful hormones in our bodies.
5:37
It's highly responsive to when we eat, what we eat, and how often we are eating.
5:44
All right, in a simple reset strategy, eat within eight to 12 hour window, prioritize
5:51
protein early, avoid late night meals.
5:54
So this specific principle aligns with Peter Atia around his metabolic flexibility.
6:05
All right, next we'll jump into number four, resistance training, natural hormone optimization.
6:11
So lifting weights isn't just about muscle, it's about signaling.
6:15
Yeah, what lifting weights does is tell our bodies that one, we need to be strong, and we need to
6:22
perform. This increases then in both female and male testosterone. Our growth hormone is
6:32
increased and then our insulin sensitivity gets increased. Yeah, about three to four sessions
6:37
per week can dramatically improve hormonal health. All right, so getting into number five,
6:43
that stress, we've talked about this in the past as well, but we need to control our cortisol,
6:50
or it ends up controlling us. So chronic stress keeps cortisol elevated, and then this
6:57
in turn disrupts our sleep, our fat metabolism, and our moods.
7:03
So let's jump into some tools that are backed by research. So walking outdoors is something
7:08
that's important. I know we like to get outdoors and walk around a forest preserve, or even walk
7:14
around the neighborhood. Breathwork is another important one. We use Wim Hof breathing techniques.
7:20
We typically like to do that before bed, it can relax you, but it can also have a different
7:25
impact on you if you do it during the day and give you that boost of energy as well.
7:30
Also meditation or prayer is another important one. I try to meditate for at least 15 minutes every
7:37
morning, and then also do some prayer as well right after the meditation when my mind is clear.
7:42
Yeah, so on previous episodes, we talk about like implementing one of these things, or you know,
7:49
taking it slowly. So even those small daily practices create measurable hormonal shifts.
7:57
All right. So let's jump into what results actually look like in this situation. So when people
8:02
start doing this consistently, here's what they report. Following a sleep better, waking up without
8:08
an alarm, fewer cravings, more stable energy, and easier fat loss. Yeah, and importantly, this
8:16
isn't a hack. It's a return to how your biology is designed to operate.
8:24
All right. So we'll now get into the final takeaway here. So if you take one thing from this
8:29
episode, it's this. Your hormones are listening to your habits. You don't need to fix your body,
8:37
you need to send it better signals. That's what we had for you today. If this episode helped you,
8:42
share it with someone who's struggling with sleep, energy, or weight. Because it might not be
8:47
disciplined. It might be hormones. We'll see you next time. Go out there and be more superhumanistic. Bye.
