It's April 24th. You're listening to Entertainment and celebrity news today, AI-powered pop culture updates. I'm Cory with the story. John Abencine, the former owner of that famous Winnetka house from Home Alone, took his own life just days after cops arrested him for possessing, child sexual abuse material. The 70-something guy faced seven felony charges, including three counts for possession, after online tips linked in account in his name to that, illegal stuff. He got nabbed on April 16th and was out on conditions the next day. Earlier this month, Lake County prosecutors kicked off the probe, based on multiple cyber reports about possession, manufacturing, or distributing the material. Police chief John Burke stressed, they're all in on protecting kids and hitting these cases hard with partners. His wife reported him missing Wednesday afternoon, and about two hours later, Lake Forest officers used drones and a K-9 to find his body in the Durwin-Mar Nature Preserve. Autopsies showed he died from severe oxygen deprivation, ruled self-inflicted.

Abencine owned the Red Brick Colonial from the 1990 movie classic until 2012, when he sold it for $1,500, $85,000. He even lived there during filming and snacks and props as keepsakes. Officials called it an isolated incident was zero threat to the community, but they're still committed to chasing down anyone involved in this kind of crime. Heavy stuff shaking up a holiday icon.
