He pulled into the White Mountain checkpoint first at 3.10am Tuesday, with 12 dogs still in harness. This spot marks the final mandatory 8-hour layover before the push to known. Holmes plans to rest longer than usual during his stop, focusing on his team and gear. Players there had everything ready since Sunday evening. From White Mountain, it's about 77 miles to the finish line under the bird arch. Mushers know this last stretch can bring tough wins and surprises, but Holmes' team has trained for it all season. He's staying sharp to avoid any slip-ups now that victory feels close. Historically, the first to reach White Mountain wins the race. Holmes won last year too, and he's leaving White Mountain at 11.10am. At a steady pace, he could cross the finish as early as Tuesday evening.
