And we're going to talk about all these announced remakes, reboots that are coming out now, and a lot of them are getting canceled. Or they haven't been greenlit yet. Now, there's a lot of discussion around Firefly because Nathan Phillian was teasing for over a week. They had big, big news. And the big news is basically they have a team together that will do an animated

1:01version of Firefly if they can get the money for it. Yeah. So that's the caveat, isn't it? If you have people that want to get paid, but now you got to get us paid. And then we'll do, we'll do some more. But clearly, it was not going to be a live action series. And I am confused as to the timeline given what happened with Alan Tudick's character in the movie just saying, you know, but they want to make it. Sure, we all, we all want to celebrate one. This doesn't mean that it's feasible. So let's talk about that. And we're going to talk about Buffy got canceled the Buffy reboot from the director of the Eternal's. I thought that was weird. That was that was that like, I mean, you must be slumming it must be desperate for work. You would know, didn't they do that? Well, it wasn't damn it. I could. Yeah, I think so. I think Chloe. Yeah. Yeah. Now, here's the thing. If you'll listen to Jamie Lee Curtis, she's basically like people are slumming in Hollywood because the the work is drying up. And this would be another indication. I think that the work is drying up because all these reboots that were supposedly a reboot of a sure thing,

2:05they're not moving forward. Yeah, because they kept doing these reboots, a quote, unquote, sure thing. And they weren't a sure thing because you changed your thing about them to make them popular. People loved about them. You changed. So they're no longer a sure thing in quotes. Then we'll talk about GI Joe, which this this thank God did not happen. I don't like this treatment. All they canceled max land. This is a GI Joe treatment. And it basically was Cobra has won GI Joe is a myth. And they were going to take it very seriously. I'm like, no, that's just make GI Joe. Yeah, let's not say we didn't because that's just not going to fly. All right. So, okay, what's interesting about this is, and this is the same with Buffy too, Joss Whedon is radioactive right now. Yeah, I was going to say. Yeah, that's a problem. So, even if they do firefly the MA version, he's not going to be involved in it, which, you know, whatever, but they did get his blessing. Probably the rights because he probably gets paid. Either way, but I have to wonder if that didn't kind of factor into the Buffy decision or if it's just the Buffy, it was just not coming together. And they're like, it's actually going to do more damage retroactively to the show to just just not touch it. Well, this is not go there. Let's just come up, come up with something new. You got excited. They said, yes, the showrunner. I got two Tara butters, Agent Carter, Dollhouse, Mark Guggenhawk. People are not excited about Mark Guggenhawk.

5:09Yeah, they're hard. He's, okay, so he's the guy in charge of the Aeroverse, but also he's spending a lot of time ranting on substack, I guess, about as the anti-Trump politics so people are like, oh god, where are they going to do the firefly now? You know, Aero Flash. They're married. They met through firefly. That's great. We got it. An animation house. Academy and Emmy award-winning Shadow Machine. The last piece we need is a home. A home. A home. A home. A home. A home. A home. A home. A home. A home. And for that, we need you. Okay, so this is a Disney Fox thing. You would think if you're going to do it, it's going to be on Disney Plus or Hulu, right? Mm-hmm. But it sounds like that's not a sure thing. And they also do, they have, they have these things going on, but do they have the money?

6:12Well, that's that's the home is where the money is, right? The home would be like who's going to, you know, home would be where are we going to have it that it's going to be brought, you know, like you said, based on Disney or Hulu, it doesn't mean they pay for it. Like Netflix is notorious for that. You can pay for it. Well, we'll host you, but you have to pay for it. Yeah, I'm sure there are a lot to you need the money or what? Yeah, I'm sure there are a lot of streaming services that would love to take a chance on this, but they're not going to pay for it. And that that's really what I think this video is going to be about overall is they're not willing to take the chances they used to take. And the thing is it's popular, but I think it's it is popular. I'm not saying it's not, but I don't know if it has the mass appeal that they that they think it does. Like I really don't know if it does. Current year? No, I think I think I think a lot of people just kind of they they were like, yeah, there's no way we're getting more fireflies, so we kind of moved on. And I like Nathan filling. I think he's he's awesome. You know, I good good on him for getting

7:13this far in the process, but I feel like that the serenity sailed like two decades ago and they really needed to get to it a lot sooner. But then again, we're also living in a time when you know, you can come out with a Ghostbusters sequel like freaking 35 years after the fact. Yeah, well, it's like that's hit or miss if we're going to be honest. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I hope for their sake, they're able to do it, but it is kind of strange to see them make like a big, big deal about yeah, we're going to do it. We're going to pitch it, but and make it out like it's a sure thing, but it's not actually a sure thing. And I'm and then like why? Why is it not a sure thing if you got this far in the process and it is a Disney owned Fox owned thing. Why aren't they doing it? Well, but they don't have just nothing. They might not have enough return investment for them to want to bother with it. Yeah, that's that's probably what it is. They're probably honestly,

8:14they're bean counters probably looking at like, yeah, you have firefighters with like 13 episodes like how many years ago and what the movie make at the box office. Yeah, nah, nah, we're good. Pass. Yeah. I don't know. I mean, I hope it kickstarted. I'm serious. Kickstarted. It's animated. That's what I was thinking they were going to do. Like I people are doing it too. And it worked with like Veronica Mars, but then again, that was live action. So you probably don't need as much money if you're doing an animated show. Critical rule. Yeah. That's true. I just think of the animation with the animation. Well, now they're using things to streamline it and all that, maybe not, but a lot of it can be very pricey. Hey, there you go, guys. If you're one of these animation studios that you're starting your independent stuff, maybe well, they said they already had animation studios though. Yeah. 9:26just to get at least a pile, since it's animation, to at least get a pilot done. Well, they might be able to pull it off this because it has the audience that it has. Yeah. I mean, they haven't got that far yet. So it's very possible. They might be able to to get it through. I mean, it's smart on there. That's not a very good picture here. I mean, that's not there. There we are. So yeah, I mean, it's it's going to be, it's really interesting, but yeah, they don't have it in the bag, but I think he's trying to get more support online to be able to go and say, look, all these millions of whatever posts and, you know, it's top training story is a top training story on deadline right now, because they have exclusive. So I mean, that's a very calculated move, but I think my thing is a bad move. It's not a bad move. I think they know what they have to do to get people to to bite, but I'm also like, are I understand people are going to be, you know, happy to get any more firefly, but I'm like, is an animated series

10:29going to have the impact that the live action series had? And I think animation by its very nature unfortunately, and this is coming from, you know, somebody who loves animation, it limits your audience. It's, you know, so it's, you know, because people aren't going to watch it because they're going to be like, that's a cartoon. The flip side is, you know, it's really hard to make them look young and be able to show again when they're this much older, unless you do animation. Yeah, I was kind of wondering when they were making announcements, I'm like, are they doing a reunion movie? And then they showed Alan Tudig. It's like, well, no, clearly not. Yeah, yeah, or just turn them into a robot because that's only plays now robots. He just plays robots and everything he's in. But I'm just saying, I mean, that's what they have to go animation, they have to for the reason, I think no other reason, and they can't go back to what their characters were unless you animate them. Right. And I don't think anybody wants to do that. So what it sounds like to me is they're just trying, they have this stuff in place that's ready to go. They just need to pitch it to find a studio to pay them to do it. Yeah, not exactly.

11:29People to talk about it so that it looks like there's more buzz so that the studios will pay for it. So yes, money. All right. So since we're talking, just we didn't talk about Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, this one got killed at Hulu. So I have to wonder what's going on here because we got two potential reboots, sequels, reimagining or whatever of Joss Whedon stuff. And yeah, they stabbed it, stabbed it through the heart at Hulu. So maybe, maybe they pitched it to Hulu of Firefly. They're like, no, we're not doing it. I don't know. I mean, I think it's another case of where it's a case of why. You know, yeah, it was a product of this time. I think I could argue Fireplay was too. And it's like, just can't we just make new things? Why do you have to do this one again? Yeah, I mean, this one could have gone, it might have gone wrong because actually what I'm hearing is that the treatment for it was not great. I mean, at least with Firefly, they're going to do an animated show to try to make it based on what it was. This would be like, oh, it's a modern day

12:31take on Buffy and where she is now and no one cares. Yeah, it was supposed to be like her daughter and yeah, the reboot title, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, new Sunnydale was announced in February of last year. It was expected to start Ryan Kira Armstrong is a new Slayer, but have Sarah reprise her Buffy character in a recurring role. So she'd be the mentor this time. And, you know, the reboot I liked and we used to watch it was the 2008 or 2009 night writer. Oh, yeah, that was a while ago. Yeah, that was actually pretty good though. I actually like that one. I can barely remember honestly. Yeah, but it was it was actually pretty okay. And it didn't like piss all over the original and they were going to win it again. Aren't they doing that writer again? Nothing is confirmed on night writer. I just looked there. There's nothing confirmed. They had teased that they were going to try to do up. Nothing has been confirmed. But they had, yeah, they had multiple attempts to bring night writer back up. They had team night writer, which was weird. Night writer 2000 kit was red. Honestly, I probably should just leave it

13:31let it wrap. I probably should, but, you know, I mean, I don't know. They're bringing Baywatch back too. You know, like, can we just make new things for God? No, no, we can't do that. Um, so here's her, what's uh, let's listen what she has to to say here. So I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy new Sunnydale. I want to thank Chloe Zhao because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy's stylish yet affordable boots. It's because you're bigots. It's because no one wanted it. No, because nobody wanted it. You know, whatever. No one wanted it. Um, yeah, I have to think that, look, we did that video a couple days ago talking about how Hollywood

15:35is unemployed and Jamie Lee Curtis is like, yeah, the jobs are getting harder and harder to come by. And I really, I mean, if you can't even bet on remakes or reimagining of popular shows at Disney of all places, then yeah, you know, she's probably telling the truth. The probably is getting pretty rough out there. But, um, we were spared from the real quick, the GI Joe Max Landis movie. I know a lot, a lot of people were, um, upset that Max Landis, given everything was going on, you know, was getting a chance at GI Joe. But, uh, that aside, the treatment sounded like dog shit. And I'm glad that that's not the direction they're going. And because it was basically, I guess Cobra has already won. They've taken over the world. And GI Joe is, uh, like a myth and urban legend that they exist. So what did the Jedi? Well, they did the Jedi and, like, supposedly like, just like 30 years later, whatever. Just, you know, no one remembers their myth. I'm like, it's only been 30 years later, you know? GI Joe was a thing in the 80s. No, they don't. Yeah, no.

16:38I actually, what you do is you do a GI Joe movie set in the 1980s. Just blow shit up. GI Joe versus Cobra. That's all you got to do. Just give people, I mean, we haven't gotten a GI Joe movie. There actually is a GI Joe movie yet. And I'm sorry that the other two they did were not good, snake eyes or something. But at this point, I mean, should they just like stop? And that's maybe four you could just stop. Yeah, you could just be like, hey, let's not make the toys or make the car, you know, comics or make something that people want to read. That's not people want for the collectors that still care about it. And then we wanted something else because they actually can still sell toys. And the news shows can't.
