0:00Early Tuesday morning, firefighters in coordinate put out a fire on the outside wall of the historic train station. The blaze started small, but crews arrived fast and kept damage to a minimum. It looks like somebody tried to start a little warming fire that got out of hand and caught the wall. The fire chief says they're still digging into what happened exactly. A smoke detector inside the building tipped them off around 1.30 a.m., letting firefighters knock it down quick before smoke spread too far. That early alert probably saved the place from way worse. This station dates back to 1914 as the end of the line for the E&N Rail. It got heritage protection from the city in 2002 and shut down for good back on August 7th, 2011. Now groups like the Island Corridor Foundation are teaming up with the city and Komats First Nation to figure out fresh ways to use the spot and keep. It's history alive.
