Highway Chase Ends in Crash, Minor Injuries

0:00In Durham today, March 18th, a sheriff's deputy in Cumberland County, North Carolina spotted a car swerving wildly on Interstate 295 and tried to pull it over. He suspected the driver was impaired, but the car sped off despite the cruise's lights in siren, kicking off a chase. The pursuit didn't last long as the driver slammed into a guardrail and a road sign before smashing into a utility trailer. That impact erected the vehicle and brought everything to a stop right there on the highway. No one else got hurt in the crash, which is lucky given how fast things unfolded. The deputy stayed safe and traffic likely backed up for a bit while crews cleared the mess. The driver walked away with just minor injuries and got checked out at a nearby hospital. Officials haven't released a name yet, but the focus now is on what caused the erratic driving.
