Bernice, the middle child of the family, was always blamed for everything, whether she did it or not. She was very clumsy, and had a stammering stutter, with much ridicule, always excelled in school. She worked very hard around the house too, she was known to be an exceptional maid. This served her natural shyness and timidity well, as she never made much eye contact, however eye contact was required when speaking to her mother and father; since she was always in question.
