The movie, Harold and the Purple Crayon, adapts a 1955 children's book by Crockett Johnson. It follows a young boy who lives inside a story book and uses his magical purple crayon to draw his way into the real world with his friends. The story mixes live action and animation for a fun, kid-friendly adventure. Harold draws whatever he imagines into reality, and when his narrator disappears, he creates a door to our world to track him down. There, he meets new folks and discovers everyday wonders he's never known. Critics weren't kind to the film, giving it just a 29% approval rating on Ryan Tomatoes. Audience has loved it more though, with an 89% score. Still, it only made $32,200,000 at the global box office after its August 2nd, 2024 release.

1:00Oscar-nominated director Carlos Saldana took the helm for his first live action flick after hits like the Ice Age movies in Rio. The cast features Zui Deschanel as Terry, Low-Rail Howery as Moose, and others like Benjamin Batani and Tony Reynolds. Netflix users have until April 30th, 2026, to catch it streaming.
