Hackney's Connecting Hoxton: Traffic Filters & School Street

The update is Scheme follows a consultation that wrapped up in 2025 and features traffic filters to block rat runs on residential streets. Key changes include planting new trees, widening pavements, and setting up a school street near St. Monica's Catholic Primary School to ban cars during drop-off and pickup times. There's also a planned bus gate on Hoxton Street, limiting access to buses, cyclists, taxis, and emergency vehicles only. Locals remain split, with strong pushback from car users, caregivers, disabled residents, and renters. Earlier this week, a petition with 836 signatures was delivered to the town hall, urging the council to drop some traffic, controls. Council officials say they're taking time to collect more traffic data before final decisions later this year.
