So Peterson plays and they get worse. Want to figure that one for me? The longer he plays, the worse they get. Yeah. If we're just talking about Arizona or Houston or Iowa State or Texas Tech or one of the big dogs, maybe there's a way to explain it. But for that to happen against Arizona State, a team that's not going to the tournament, if it's firing its coach, that was. It's official? No.
01But they're going to fire them. It will be official. Yeah. Early is going to be let go. Because you're telling me the strategy isn't to let a guy coach all the way into his final year and then giving the extension. Some schools. Yeah. Might do it that way. Yeah. Others just go ahead and do it and then say it's with cause. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. But I thought the last game, what was it? It's a Tuesday night they played Arizona State Kansas. Yeah. Although it was a used worse game of the year. Yeah. Just a worse game. So discouraging if you're a Kansas fan to see it unfold that way, you get just bad offense, terrible offense. Once again, they start so slowly out of the out of the gate. They're down. You know, self is calling time outs and before the first media time out, it's. Roy's rolling over in his grave. Oh, wait. He's not dead. Well, he's definitely not, but he's definitely not calling time out.
02Definitely not going to call a time out at that point. No. But that was, that was hard to watch for, you know, if you're a Kansas follower. What are you seeing? You know, he talks about like, well, we're just standing around. I, I get that. But I also like is Darren Peterson just free, freelancing, just free wheeling up there? Like what, what are you supposed to do if like you're not running a set? When Darren Peterson just has it holds the ball, looks, dribbles, dribbles, dribbles. Like where are you wanting everybody to go? Yeah. You know, this is the product of not being together, learning to play with each other. You know, in November, December, in parts of January, they haven't, they still don't seem to have it figured out how to play with and without them. And it's, it is such a discouraging sign to see him play this poorly, this late into the season. And with Peterson, just specifically, it's almost kind of darned if he does and darned if he does.
05I want to see him go to the hoop, just, just more often. Just the play from this season that really sticks out to me was a drive that he had in the first, I think it was BYU where he changed hands in midair, ended up shooting it left handed from the left side, going in with the dribbling in with the right hand. I thought that was fantastic and just let's see him go to the basket more, but he's getting clobbered when he goes to the basket now. And doesn't seem to be getting calls with the times he does go to the hoop. I still want to see him do that. To me, he's a guy that should be taken eight to ten free throws a game. Get to the line, you know, to be that guy and he hasn't been that guy. He did enough of that guy. Does he, do you, I don't know, I'm trying to think where he just catches the ball and goes. Or is there a lot of catch and now let me size it up. Yeah, I think there's some of the, I think there's a little too much of that.
06You know, if you're working within the framework of the offense, I mean, I hear Bill's talking about what we're just standing around. What are they, that's why I come back to it. Well, if they don't know where he's going, where do you want them to cut? And what he's going to do with, you know, like how about run, you know, run the high low. There are options where they, where the big kicks to somebody other than the other big and, you know, catch shoot. He will catch and shoot, but the catch and drive seems to be a catch survey and go. Go right, right, right. And then the go is kind of, let me see if I can, you know, step in, step out, step in, round it, round it. Okay, now I'm going to go. Like, you know, it's like, I'm not sure what everyone's supposed to do off that. I mean, like you see a lot of standing around and pick up basketball. You want to know why? Because nobody's running a play, right? We all just met each other here. Yeah. And so I'll come up and give you a pickup top, you know, I like that. That's a good. I mean, you know, there is like, you just chose sides. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, okay, well, you dribble a lot. So I'll just wait and see which way you're going to go. And then I'll try to see what happens here.
07Then you got the old man is, I'm going to post up because I'm not moving around the greater. Right. And always call for the ball. Yeah. Hand up. Yeah. Hand up. Ready for it. Got position. He's on my hand. Yeah. Yeah. Look right in your face, that jackass, that jackass is me, but you know, that's one of my favorites. Step on the foot, block this. Go ahead. See how that works. And yet all of this for Peterson would be just a little aside if he would knock down a couple of threes. You know, it's knocked down a couple of jumpers early, but he hasn't the both of the games in Arizona didn't do that. But he got off to such a poor shooting start in those games, and there's Kansas down. I forgot what the halftime score was against Arizona, but 20 at Arizona State, both games they closed the two because he does play better in the first 10 minutes, the second half. And he's, you know, it looks like they have some things figured out.
07He balls going down for him. And, but, but they've dug such a big hole that they can't come all the way back. Well, I think there's the, and I'm not saying Bill Selsfong in this, but we had a car. I think it was Larry early in the week, who, when I, when I was, you know, talking about the frustrations, I'd have to be going on with Aaron Peterson and how it's, it's all coming together. And the guy said, you know, he didn't like, you know, he thought the problem was everybody else. You know, I'm like, okay. I'm willing to listen to anything really. I mean, with the team, I am because it's, you know, it's nothing like nothing I've ever seen before. You know, I have covered sports for a long time. I've never seen anything like this. It's so unique to have a player of this magnitude potential. We got to say, um, and maybe I'm, I'm sure we can come up with examples of players who are going to be one one or one two who did not have great, you know, college freshman seasons, right? Great as in their team.
07Like, like, like, yeah, they're team. Yeah, I'll give you all a Ben Simmons, Mark L. Foltz. Anthony Edwards, Georgia didn't make the tournament. Anthony Edwards is the one of those three that's gone on to be something in the league, but the other two have been exactly what they, you know, you're like, uh, does he really care? Mm-hmm. Is this really what they want to do? And I think that's, that's, I think that's probably why he's going to go number two. All the latest months I've seen him having two behind the monster. Well, and I don't know that we're not 10 minutes away from him being three behind A-Cuff. Yeah, he's come on strong. I mean, you look at what he's doing at our like last night was the last nine or two nights ago. Uh, whenever, whenever they played last and it's just like, pick your poison. Like, you want to, you want to come out that I'm going by you? You want to stay back then I'm knocking down the three. You want to double me? I find that guy for the alley. You dunk. I mean, he looks like he cannot make a wrong decision. And you have to oversell to stop one part of his game. And he just an acts the other part of his game to beat you. And, and I'm watching Kingston Fleming, uh, the other night against Baylor was it last night?
10I can't remember, but yeah, last night, you know, last night, you know, go into the hoops, slam it at home, pull up jumper, just looks much more smoother offensively right now than Peterson. Well, I was talking to someone. I want to say their name. They did. We all know I don't think they would care, but I don't want to put it out there if they didn't want it. But they're like, I'm starting to wonder if the beginning of the year he was just lucky. I thought that was an interesting perspective on it. Like, no, no, this is who he is. He was just kind of hot early shooting. Yeah, 50% on. I don't think so just because of what the accolades were coming in. And we saw what he was in last year in high, you know, prep school. Against good competition in prep school. He was fantastic. So. But this week was horrible for him. What do you think it was defense? I think he's got, I think he can be a better defender. But it goes, but this goes back maybe to whatever ailed him in the first part of the year. And we can't discount anything.
14We can't discount, you know, attitude, desire, all the things we've talked about with him throughout the year. Nothing's been answered, right? So it's all up to us to guess and speculate on what makes him tick and why he plays the way he does. But defense is certainly such a like rebounding a function of desire. And you don't see it all the time. Turns out that rebounding is also a function of your inability to make close-in shots. Yeah, it's right. Because they piled up the offensive rebounds. Curtis was like, we had to go back, I don't even remember. The number was so mind-boggling about how many times you had to go back to finding a team that had this kind of rebounding margin, this many rebounds. And we get to it. And it's what? Bethune Cookman against, you know, Southeast Bethune Cookman. Like he was like, you know, I know Bethune Cookman was one of them.
16But it's like, you're like, okay, I could see it happening in a game like that. And then they get no second chance points. Yes. None. It was amazing. It's like, how does this occur? Yeah. You know. But it also, one of the ways it occurs is it's not just Peterson's breaking down right now. Where Bethune is not playing great in offense. And Bryce Tiller, he is struggling right now. I think Kansas Lackerman insight. Whenever they face a good athletic five, like, Jop is that how he pronounced his name for Arizona State. I know that Crevas for Arizona. By the way, can I just say that I do think Bob Hurley should be fired? Because that job kid. I'm like, look at this guy. What are we doing over here? Not, how are you not knocking out three? Oh, he looks, he looks like he's really seven foot. I mean, he made, he made, uh, Flory look like, oh, they got a wing on him. You know, that's cute. Let's see if this works.
16Then they'll get their big man back in the game. I mean, he's immense and he's moves around. I'm like, no wonder Bob's getting fired. What, what the hell is going on here? But he scores the games with first seven or something. And he has whatever it had, you know, great first half. And then the other guy, the point guard goes nuts on them. Those rainbow threes. So, yeah, what a, just a. I guess I think it's the worst loss of the year for them. And it's, it's the game that leaves the impression that this could be another, you know, don't get out of the first weekend of the tournament for KU. If this is who they are. Yeah. I mean, it was the, the, the dozens of fans did create an electric atmosphere there. You know, they love their hoops and phoenix. You see everybody in that, by the way, I love looking at the stands there. It's like, they're already sunburned. You know, shorts and t-shirts worn out.
18You have them dragging ass through 90 plus degrees and everything already. Yeah. Yeah. Well, they were pound of beers at the spring training game earlier. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Squat swoops. Yeah. They have a hockey team at ASU. I didn't know that. I think it's a club team, but I think they might actually, or maybe they, I think I read some of that they were going to go with, they were talking about going big 10 hockey. Oh, how about that? I can, a lot of transplants at Arizona State, a lot of great lakers. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'll tell you what there is. A lot of kids that are like dead, so they had to go to school. Yep. At least it's a small campus. Cozy 58,000. There they issue. Cozy is what they like to call it. Yeah. You've been on that campus. I love that campus. I mean. I do. I absolutely love it. I think they shared, don't they share their baseball stadium with like the angels or something? Probably. It's just on the other side of the mountain that the football stadium backs up to.
18Right. Right. The old Sun Devil Stadium. Yeah. Yeah. So. Yeah. I can't wait to see who takes that job next. I was trying to think. When was the last time they were ever, they've never been to a final four. Well, when they shaved the points, it was. It was that. It was. Uh, uh, uh, feeling or, uh, the Michigan coach. Uh, Frieder. Frieder. Yeah. Bill Frieder. Bill Frieder had gone down there. And he had him in the top 25. Steven Smith, one at the back end of the first round. And later was picked up by the FBI for questioning and then sentenced to jail. The Mavs took him late in the first. But the Isaac Burton was also one of her questions. Yeah. The FBI signed him. But don't ask why I know this. But I know it. I think we've talked about that before. But, um, yeah, like that game, it was. It's like, wow, huh? Um, you know, it was the look ahead for K state, though, right?
19Had to be had to be. I did think unlike the Arizona game where the senior night, which means so much. By the way, sidebar. Lebo gave me the stat. 16 senior nights in the SEC. How many of all the seniors on senior night in the SEC? Where was a kid who's gone to only that school? So four, at least four years at that school, only. There's nobody from Missouri, right? Well, all 16 schools combined. Um, I don't know. I'd say some predict like 10. One. One. One. Oh my gosh. It's probably like guy started as team manager or something to probably. I don't know. Some Mississippi state kid. Lebo said. In the big 10. There is. Because why would you leave Mississippi state? I mean, when you found that kind of paradise of basketball, where are you going then? Uh, in the big 10. There's only 10. Big 12. Five. Big East. Three. ACC.
19Three. I remember when Nigel Pack got to Oklahoma. 10 minutes ago. You know, that was awesome. They gave him a jersey. Can we stop with that? Can we stop with that? If you're going to give you a jersey, if we're going to bother to frame it up, you know, we got art and frame, framing it up. Hey, Michael, can you do this? I kind of have a rush on it. You know, senior night. No. You, uh, get there. One year, you can't get a jersey. I would think not. Yeah, you can take the one on your back home with the if you want. But we're not, we're not paying for the framing. The one. We paid you 800,000. Isn't that enough? You pay for the framing. Did she come with? Here's your jersey and here's your bill. You got to think if somebody's just been there for one year, you wonder if they've ever been to a class. Yeah, they had some to sure they've got tutors on the road if they have to stay eligible. Um, did they ever see the campus besides the arena and the, uh, wherever the apartment they're living in? Nigel Pack has probably made a couple of million to several million dollars of all the deals he's gotten.
19He was the first big money guy going to Miami poster child for this. 500 K to go to Miami. We're like, what the absolute. Um, just, it was just three or four, two or three years ago. Um, because I remember his team, Miami came to play in the regional in Kansas City. And that was the Miami team that, I think, beat Texas to go to the final four. That was 23. So we're just talking a couple of years of. He really was the face of N.I.L. And in just two short years, we're in a, I can't believe it. He only played at three schools. I thought there was another one in there. Two, two years at K state, three at Miami and then four in Oklahoma. It's first to four in Oklahoma. Wow. So two, how did he get six? Oh, he only played nine. The last year at Miami, they must have given him the red shirt plus the COVID year. Yeah, yeah. Sweet deals. Yeah. Holy cow.
19That's, uh, that's a career right there. Say, maybe we got to have some people. You know, 100 Dickinson is over 2000 points. You know, 100 Dickinson's like the fifth leading scorer in college basketball history. It's like fifth or sixth or so. So they ridiculously, I like 100 Dickinson. Well, it used to be the peak mayor of itch. You know, Dan Manning. 100 Dickinson. It used to be like the all-time leader in games played in college were the Duke guys from the 80s and the 90s. Their teams would always get to the championship games. It would be like a hundred and, you know, 130 or 140 games. Well, now the lead all-time leader in games playing college basketball is like 180. Like Mitch Lightfoot for Kansas played in a gazillion games. Okay. That's the exaggerated. He's not, he's 23rd. But he does have 2800 points. That's still, that's incredible. 2800 points.
19Let me listen to the names in front of him. Alan Houston, Kevin Bradshaw, who is this prolific score for US International. Otis Bird song, Mark Sears. That's a recent one. Larry Bird ever heard of him, Stan. Tyler Hansbro, Elvin Hayes. Alfred Rick Hughes. He's actually a really good player for loyalty. I don't know why he's back in the 80s. Danny Manning, Oscar Robertson, Ersi Hawkins, Caden Clark of St. Peter's. Harry Kelly, Mike Downe. It's out the code of state. Max Abmus, Doug McDermott, Alfonso Ford, Lionel Simmons, Chris Clemens, Freeman Williams, Antoine Davis, and number one still Pete Mervich. Antoine Davis came up just a couple of points short. Three points short of Pete Mervich. Don't you just wake up every night with a cold sweat about each Miss 3 you ever had? In his team. Detroit Mercy.
19Yeah, and they left some games on the floor that year because they got upset in their either conference tournament or NIT or something. That's right. In the final game, they weren't good enough to go on. And he would have been the guy and he didn't get there. But I mean, that's like Hunter Dickinson behind him. Name's like JJ Reddick. Caleb Love, Hank Gathers, Reggie Lewis, David Robinson, Wayman Tisdale, Steph Curry, Hunter Dickinson. I heard it at Glee game. He went for like 20 and 20 the other night. Did he? Yeah, 24 and 23 or something. You know, a couple of times Bill Self has referenced him. You know, and I don't know if you know this, but it's all fixed. It can't just because they finally got rid of him. He was just looking at that game there in Tempe. It's all fixed. He was in 18 and 10. Or am I wrong? It's somehow Hunter Dickinson's screw him in Tempe too. He'd not be in there.
20I think some would have you believe that. The self says 18 and 10 guy. He was, he was pretty worthwhile. He just, he was never cut out to be the guy. Yes. That was the problem. Yeah, that was the problem. And the problem was not, you know, the same way Mike Sweeney took the guy ever done, huh? Give him an 140, batted 340. The problem is not Mike Sweeney. Hunter Dickinson probably won his gives Mike Sweeney was his peak as a basketball player. As Mike Sweeney was as a hitter, but same kind of thing. Same concept. The expectations are, are high. The team does not meet them. So it's got to be someone's fault. And we're starting at the top. Yeah. And that's where it's going to go. I don't know. I mean, do you see anything that can you can do to make it better suddenly? That's, that's a good question. Like I said, I, I want to, we can talk a lot more about Darren Peterson and what he needs to do and what needs to happen there. But I just, I think the bigs need to play up to their capabilities that we saw earlier.
23Especially with Florey. What are you saying? The three and five that Bryson Tiller warriored up for there in Tempe wasn't enough? Shouldn't they, shouldn't they be combining for, you know, 24 and 18? Yes. You know, yes. And, you know, and, you know, 24 on 12 of 17 from the field. They've seemingly been able to build on nothing. You know, like Bryson Tiller's big game. All right. Here we go. This is the offensive hype we've heard about unleashed the fury. Now, let me put it back in the bottle. I'm, the fury goes back in the bottle. We're not, we're not unleashing that here. But Dunga, look at him up and under just willing the ball into the rim. You can't miss around the rim. Yeah. No. No, we're done with that. Where we, you know, I think the one guy who's been kind of, again, I, Trey White, giving you everything you wanted. He's the one who's played both. He and council.
23I think those are the two that played above expectation. Mm-hmm. Um, for, for pretty. Even councils backed up the bus here of late. Yeah. And, and Trey White went through that little bit for, for, for a little while as well. Um, but he, they're the kind of guys when they're not on the floor. It seems noticeable. Um, and, um, you gotta think. And if you're, if you're a Kansas fan, get, get those guys back on the. For, for a night, it wasn't going well. The bench played 25 total minutes. Almost exclusively at the expense of Bryson Tiller. Mm-hmm. I mean, Florida, but I'm gonna play 38. Tiller played 26. Council played 39. Trey White played 38. Darren Peterson played 34. And, you know, he's always trimmed the rotation down pretty quick. But I mean, now, I don't know, I mean, it, it, it, like, I, I still like, I don't understand how cold Rosario's not more.
23Well, he's, he's bouncy. He's strong. You gotta, you gotta live with his bad shooting. But he gives you so much else. He, he gives you energy. Um, yeah, he, he is bouncy. That, that, that follows the, the finish he had on the lob. The pass from Peterson. That was his athletic play as Kansas had the whole night. I, I, I didn't know he had those kind of hops. That was really impressive. Yeah, I'm looking, uh, so cold Rosario. His, his minutes just disappeared. Did he reclassify? Nice freshman, isn't he? I believe he did. No, but like before. Oh, I see. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So his junior year, 25 minutes, 25 points per game. Um, of course, I don't have a percentage of this. I just went back to try to get out here shooting. Uh, it's a field goal, 50%. Um, how do you have AFG, which is what?
25What is AFG? Is that effective like effective field goal percentage? Is that, they have that, but they don't have a three point percentage. On reference? No, no, I'm just looking for his high school numbers. So I found some site and I was like, they don't have a three point percentage. Like nobody can bother to put pen to paper on that down there. Like give me a break. But I just want to see if he was, you know, if he shot well in school. Yeah. Yeah. Now the game does look too fast for him. I think it's, I think it's going to slow down and he's going to be a good player at some point. But I just, he's a guy that I would have given more minutes to try to get it to slow down this year to have a little more depth, to have a little more size. Yeah. You know, I mean, they're not big up for neither tiller nor bedung is really light. Tillers not stout. No. It's not small, but he's not big. And so having a risario knocks and people around next to him might not be such a bad thing. But they went away from that really quick. They seem to, when he wasn't knocking down threes, they did get away from them.
29So how does it finish for them? Second round loss. Round of 32. They'll get in a fourth, you know, they'll be a four seed. They'll get a five in the second game and they'll run into a big. And that'll be, you know, another. So that would be how many since the championship, right? 23, 24, 24th straight year. If they go out like that. It feels like that. They can beat somebody big, but I don't know that they can get to the somebody big. You know, like they could take out a one. I really think so if they're on their game and Pearson takes over. And it's a decent matchup for them. Yeah. Yeah. Then they could take out a one, but the just as likely to lose the 413 game. Yeah. If it's a bad match, yeah, if the matchups wrong, they've played, they lost these games, but they played duke tough. They played Yukon tough earlier this year. Of course, we run down the list of teams, they beaten, you know, Arizona, Houston,
30killed Houston in Alan Fieldhouse. Iowa stayed in Lawrence as well. So they can do it. It's just, what if they lost now? Is it four or five or the Houston win? It was the. That's wedged in. They've lost three or four and four of six. Okay. Four of six. And then before that was there. Like here they go. Here's the real game. Yeah. Eight in a row. Yeah. Talking about what they got to do to finish first. And we're beyond that way beyond that. All right. We'll talk about the Missouri Tigers next Blair Kirchhoff. So with us, he's brought to you by our friends at Art and Frameware House. You can find them online at framekc.com the best when it comes to framing your sports memorabilia. It's Art and Frameware House framekc.com. All right. Our Lafeta into the hour answer. The chief's last 1,000 yard rusher was Kareem Hunt in 2017. There are two other teams who also had their last 1,000 yard rusher in 2017. Who are they? Ooh. Everybody else has done it?
30Uh-huh. Boy. New England? Nope. One of them you're going to be very surprised. How about Pittsburgh? Not Pittsburgh. Well, Lamar Jackson's done it for Baltimore. Well, they've had, well, they've had Derek Henry here. Yeah. It's dumb. One is in AFC West. Oh. Chargers? Chargers. Melvin Ingram in 2017. Wow. For Melvin Gordon, excuse me. Melvin Gordon. Yeah. How many of them are there? Just two. Chargers and the other one NFC? Yes. Ah. Bears have had one. Packers have had one. Vikings? Trying to who would be the last one for the vikes? Bikes? Nope. Just throwing darts now. The last one to do it for this team was a Heisman trophy winner out of Alabama. Mark Ingram, Saints?
30The Saints. Oh, wow. Alvin Camera has never rushed for 1,000 yards. Wow. But he's going to this year. When I get stuck late and have no money left. And I got to throw a hail Mary because my running back situation's ass at my fantasy auction. It's going to be this year that he does it. Don't you love it when you get boxed in on that plan? I mean, if Camera, you're talking with your friends afterwards with a few Corona's. I mean, if Camera comes through, it's just stop Steve. He's not coming through. Just enough. Who's the next chiefs 1,000 yard rusher? For Shard Smith. First 2,000 yard back for the chiefs. It's Tyler Algier. How about that? Chiefs are said to be interested in running back in the $78 million range. That's what one of the reports are. I don't know if there's any truth to it, but I think Tyler Algier can be a good fit.
30Not Mr. TN. I mean, I wouldn't mind if you brought him in. That's great. But I would like somebody to bring a little more punch to the table. And I think I worry that they're, you know, you bring in ATNs because we want RPO it some more. I want somebody to run over someone. Algier, hell of a pass walker as well. And then he has, and the NFL's longest active Don Fumble streak. Well, that's very, very much. It would be a candy read thing. Which are the second, third and fourth most important things to Andy Reed. What's number one that he also checks the box for? I don't know. He's a cougar. Oh, they're going to say he's a good pass guy. I'm going to the list. I'm going to look at things that that's exactly right. Well, that's how yeah, I mean, it's a done deal. Done deal. Let's go ahead and put him in the back for now. It's done deal. You know, Daniel Sorenson played here for a long time.
33He did. He squeezed every drop of that ability and just tell you now. Do you know what he's doing now? What is he doing now? He's the assistant. Got to be a coach. He's the assistant to the regional supervisor. No. Dunder Mifflin. I figure, what's his, what's Dwight's title? I think he. Yeah. He's the assistant to the manager. Well, I can't remember what's, what's, what's Carell's title? Cause he's, I never, what, but I just love his, his whites. Now, he's the assistant, safety's coach of BYU now. There you go. Which is an important job, as I said yesterday, because should the safety's coach not be able to fulfill his duties? Then Daniel Sorenson will be called upon. Step right into that. Step right into that role. Do you remember that? The old beauty patch. Yes. Oh, yeah. Oh, the runner up. It's a very important title. No, it's not. It's not. Stop. Like, when, whatever, you know, this is, it's not, it's not 780. Okay. Like the, the blue plague isn't fogging through and, you know,
38the 21-year-old pageant winner might be dead in three months. That's right. Save your dress. You're on alert. Yeah. Hey, but some words in though, had some moments. He did. I, I, I said, listen, did all frustration with Daniel Sorenson is, is really frustration that the chiefs never had better talent. Right. Right around that to, to move him out, because he got the most of what he could be. And, you know, he had, in my opinion, Curtis thought of a third one. I remember what it was, but the obvious one is sniffing out the fake pun to Justin Reed. Yeah. Like, it's the Texans. And then I remember him being one on one with Derek Henry in the AFC Championship game and getting run over but bringing Derek Henry down. Or at least holding him up until the cavalry got there and brought him down on what would have been a long run if he didn't get it done. And then Curtis had one other one. I can't remember. I can't remember. It was a pick six or a fumble return in a home game at a critical moment.
38Regular season wasn't playoff. But he actually had a couple of touchdowns. Return touchdowns. Something the chief didn't have any of this past season of return touchdown. You don't say. Yes. It's true. Sorenson had multiple return touchdowns. Yeah. It's these better than people thought. All right. I mean, should we just quit thinking that, oh, the corner of the next level, just be like, you know, they are what they are. They're, I think they're still off the bubble. They lose the lost local home. Yeah. Yeah. But they just don't keep climbing. They just kind of settled in at that 10 spot. Yeah. Maybe I still think that when it's all said and done, they'll be in an eight, nine game. But that would require them to beat Arkansas. So this Saturday in Arkansas just looked great against was the Texas last time. Later. So, yeah, so disappointing. But let's Oklahoma shot lights out. Oklahoma owed Missouri after the way, you know, they lost a Tigers in Columbia. But still, I wanted to see a better showing.
40I wanted to see. I want to see a little more fight. A little fight. They didn't seem to, didn't seem to bother them. It's almost like, well, we knew we weren't getting this one. We'll go back to Columbia and take down Arkansas. Yeah. And maybe, maybe it was just like I said, it was the emotional senior night for Nigel Pack. There it is. Norman. So. Yeah. That's right. Difficult, almost impossible to win on senior nights these days. The emotion in the building, especially an empty drum. Are they still in the drum? Oklahoma, they build a new building for no reason. I don't think there was a fire in the concession stand for this game. Like there was the previous game. Was it really? Yes. Smoke in the building. It looked up way there is my career right there. Grease fire at the burger stand. Yep. Yep. I like Porter Moser. I talked to my interview to him when he was here for an AAU thing once. It was a good guy. Yeah. Yeah. I think he's a good basketball coach too. I think it's just, you know, I don't. I wonder. Porter Moser wouldn't be if if K state said we're hiring Porter Moser. I don't think it'd be the worst tire.
41I don't think so either because I think it's entirely possible. Oklahoma puts no resources into their basketball. I don't know. You know, that's what we don't know. Does he have a roster that's 50% of everybody else in the SEC? Well, then he's a hell of a coach. Does he have a roster that's more expensive than most teams? Well, then he's not very good. The whole narrative on him leaving Loyola to come to Oklahoma. Could he recruit at that level? And that's the question we always have with coaches that make that leap. Can they recruit at the at the highest level? And I guess the answer is he's having trouble doing it. But he'll be a head coach. He'll continue to be a head coach. Someone will absolutely hire him. I mean, is Wichita looking? Because I would be really interested in him. I know they finished top half of the American. They've had a kind of little bit of a bounce back season, but I don't know what the status is. I asked Gary Parish for a candidate,
42maybe a Dark Horse candidate for K-State. And he said, I won't give you a name, but he said, you know, the Ben McCollum Kurt Signetti, like they are more attractive candidates to jump to a major program now than ever before. Because he said, the fact that your boys with the mo-can elite coach is irrelevant at this point. It doesn't matter. Because it comes down to how much you're going to pay me. Right, right. So can you take the money you're given? Can you find the diamonds in the rough? Can you develop their game? Coach them up. And can you bring them together? If you can do those things, because the money is going to do the recruiting. So recruiting has been greatly lessen. That makes sense. So if K-State, who has been bankrolling a pretty expensive roster, will continue to do that. And they find a guy who can identify the talent and bring it together better. Make the team fit, then they should be just fine. And so that's why I say, if Oklahoma's tight as it gets,
42on basketball, then Porter Moser is a worthy candidate. I agree. I do like him as a coach. But I'm trying to think of, is there an Indiana equivalent in basketball this year? Nebraska'd be the closest. Maybe, maybe, and they're fading a little bit now. But they're lost by 20 on the road at UCLA the other night. But having a great season. But you want to know why. They raised their voice to make Kronin. You don't raise your voice to make Kronin. Especially when the cameras are rolling. That's right. And it should raise your voice at me. That would be great. Do we have that? Do we still have that, don't we? I mean, that's just... And nobody raised their voice. It was lunacy. It's maybe my favorite... This coach is just deciding he's going to be in a whole moment in a long time. I mean, what a crisis. You got it? Raise your voice at home. Well, we should capture the question. Because the question wasn't... Well, the question was asked like 45 seconds earlier.
43And he kept going on and on and on. Then he turns in another guy's asking a question and then he goes back to him. You're raising your voice at me. What did he say? He said some of the effect of like, oh yeah, you got to be proud of that. Or home matter. Or okay, I will. That's the dumbest question I've ever been asked. So, you know, you can take that. And then he goes, okay, I will. And then he goes. I mean, then he goes, oh, I mean, then he goes, you're raising your voice at me? Oh, my God. So priceless. But you're right. Nebraska would be the Indian of basketball this year. But otherwise, teams that were the most... That were great last year, right? Florida, Houston, Duke. So, maybe you'll take... But all those are coached by people that I think are capable of coaching, you know, the way it was five, you know, five, ten years ago,
44the way it is now, including Calvin Samson. I mean, Calvin's doing... Yeah, with two freshmen that are fantastic. Senac and Fleming's are just fantastic freshmen. So, he gets to the championship game a year ago, should have won it. And then he comes back this year with a couple of great freshmen and can continue to do it. So it makes you wonder a little bit if Kansas can, you know, can play the new game in this world now. Yeah. Blair Kirk-Govs with us. We'll take a break. Come back. We'll talk a little more. Hoop. Maybe a little football. We'll do it next year in the program. Blair, always brought to you by our friends at Heart and Frameware House. Could you get a heads up? Could you like wave an arm or something? Just whisper in the mic that we're back. We don't even have headsets on. I feel like trying to read Thunderdome back there. Like, is he saying we're back? That's on me. Yeah. Blair Kirk-Govs with us here in the program. So K-State zeroing in on their hire. Are they? No. No. I don't know. That's what I've heard.
44What do you think is going to happen? Well, I don't know the advantage of being first in the market for this. If... Well, they're making all these contacts. I guess. I guess if you're going to get a head coach, which all indications are, that's the desire is to have somebody with more head coaching experience. That's the experience. I'm like, no, I think they're definitely four having a coach. This time. Yeah. No, but you mean having one with head coaching experience. Yes. And you obviously won't win. Because they didn't have it last time. So now it matters more. That's what we... We've been around long enough to understand the thinking on these things. So somebody who is at... You have Mark Mangino, you hire David Bady, you like to jog. Maybe wasn't it Bady after Mangino or... No, it was Turner Gill. Turner Gill. Yeah. Yeah. Another in the long line of... Yeah. Kids are like, what? What? Why are we catching strays here? Come on. Let's talk about K-State and that basketball program. But if there's a mid-major who's at the Miami of Ohio coach,
46was it steel and then the slew coach, those got Utah State. They're going to play in March. So you're going to have to wait a little bit. And then teams that don't make the tournament are going to fire their coaches. So they're going to be out looking for... Those schools will be looking for coaches too. I just don't think there's a great advantage. I under... Listen, K-State fired drum tang when they felt like they needed to. I don't think it's a great advantage to be first out there. They... We'll see who they get. But it doesn't seem like, you know... What have they gotten to? Yeah. You know, I have no idea. Kim English was let go by Providence. Yeah. You hate to see that for the local guy who was popular player at Mizzou. And at one point, we talked about him as a potential Missouri successor to whoever they fire or whoever moves on. I don't know if... This doesn't help that cause. Not a good... I think you can finish with a sub-500 record, I think, at Providence. I think they... I think he probably got the Providence job a little quick.
47Two years at George Mason, he went 14 and 16 and 20 and 13, but he finished ninth and fifth. In his first head coaching job? That's one of the things Doug Gottlieb made a good point about a long time ago. Doug was always really good to have on as a guest when, you know, it show up. But always had great things to say. And one of them, he really pointed out, was like, look at guys records within their league. It's great if they've had a couple of nice tournament runs. But like, you're not going to be happy finishing fifth in your league. Getting to the sweet 16, one time does not solve finishing fifth or lower in your league all the time. Right. Right, and so that's an important one. And since then, you know, he went 21 or 14 taking over the team that was left by... Ed Cooley. Ed Cooley. Went to George Mason. Yeah. 21 or 14, 12 and 20 and now he's 12 and 14 this year. So now, so what's the next job for him? Is it on the bench of a, you know, a big east or... I think it... Yes. Is Dennis Gates hired? Or not a big east. Not necessarily a big east, but a major.
47But yeah. A major or the lowest assistant in the NBA? Yeah. Yeah. I can see that. But I mean, the NBA and the college coaching are getting blurred a lot. It's not like, well, why just don't want to trick around with their recruiting? You don't have to do that much of it anymore. No. It's transfer portal. It's a few weeks. Yep. And it's how much you pay in coach. Yep. It's your cap. Yeah. Your cap room in the colleges. Well, I mean, that's... You know, it is a very different vibe out there on how it works. Yeah. But Kim English did, there was like, oh, we should hire him at Mizzou. Yeah. It's like, well, this Providence job is a pretty good proving ground, you know? And if Dennis Gates works, then you don't need him. And if he doesn't, then he has a chance to gain more experience and then really be ready for an SEC job. I'd like to know more about... I didn't... I have not read about his career at Providence. I'd like to know what happened. Well, Ed Cooley left to go to Georgetown. And I don't know that Georgetown is putting a ton of money into the program, either.
50I don't know. I've caught a couple of their games on Big East basketball this year. Big East is down. You know? They're going to get three in maybe. And Crateen is down. I mean, it's not a good year for Big East. We'll see what happens with Crateen if they bounce back. Is this just the new trend that the full way to the NIL is coming in in the Big East? Remember the Big East are supposed to have the big advantage, right? Because they were... They're not a football school, so all their money is not going to football. Well, that was when all you had to do was build nice basketball facilities. Now you've got to pay the kids. Yes, pay the kids. And you don't have the football money coming in to help pay. You don't have the donors. You don't have the 20 million. Yeah. I mean, that's the thing about Georgetown. Could you hit some alums up? You would think it's school like Jordan. How are they not swimming in cash? Do you like looking like crap? You know, McDermott had injuries at Crateen too. He did. So we'll see if that's a reset. Next you'll be... No, I don't want to say a big year for him. He's got his coach and waiting there. Who? One of the assistants. Really?
50Yeah. Well, that's a complete waste of time. Yeah, I'm sorry to see that. Yeah. I don't... And that always works. You know, so... We can run down the list. Yeah. Blair, thank you. We'll do it next week. Sounds good. There are two players who are tied for making the most starts in world baseball classic history. Not named either one of them.
