See them in person. 90 second of that calf. Blair, how are you buddy? Oh, there he is. Now he's never checked that. We never checked it. Was it my fault this time boys? No. Happyest man in the world. Oh, yeah. Kyle is so happy. Oh, it's not so easy, is it, huh?
02Didn't remember, did you? Who's pounding on the desk? Can I help you? I was going to ask a favor possible. I don't know that. I just wanted to discharge it. Oh, what do we need? USB C. Okay. I don't know if we... I don't know that we have that. I don't think I have a charger for that. Yeah, sorry. Sorry buddy, we don't... Yeah. We're down. Okay. Thank you. So I just give my headphones. That was interesting. Security just beat on the door. It's like, yeah, yeah, I need a charge. Like, there was... We were close to here in profanity. I was about to be like, hey. Let me tell you where you can go. I have a... I have a USB C cord, but it's for my laptop. Sorry, buddy, I can't help you. Yeah. If I had an extra one, I would have said sure. Because that would have been the heck of a story to be able to tell one day. You know, am I the only one like...
05What you put in is what I send out. And when it opens with... Yeah. That's not usually going to get like... Yeah, how can I help it? Not generally. Well, that'll be something fun to listen back to later. Well, okay. We're just talking about... In our house, that's grabbed the baseball bat. Yeah, I was like... We're just talking about, you know, how it sports and all of a sudden... That's interesting. I need a charge. Sorry, Captain. Okay. I want to help him. I don't have a cord. I don't think he understands what's going on. No, no. I don't... I honestly don't think he knew we were on the radio. You think? Do you think so? I honestly, you know what? I'm starting to think that maybe he didn't know. But... Or even better. He didn't care. Yeah. Yeah. I like that part of the story even better. Before I'm rooting for. Yeah.
05Okay. And then we have his wingman. We've looked back at the guy. I would have loved to get in a shot just me looking over my shoulder. Yeah. And his wingman, right over there, mini creed Humphrey. He clearly went back. Oh, yeah. That's my look. Yep. I'm going for it. I'm going for it. Yep. Going to... Full man of night. That was a hoop to stay. Or what is... Who wears the beard with no mustache? Amish. Amish. You want full amish. So, anyway. That's men of night, right? No, that's... And I think there's a difference. Yeah, I think that's... Curtis is a religion expert. I'm not sure if you're aware of that. I know quite a bit about religions. But I thought they were the same. They were close, related. They both favor the buggy. That's true. That's true. They, uh... They know each other. They live in the same. Yeah. Yeah, I think you could go that far. For sure.
05Blair, let's start with what everyone's talking about. How about that damn court? Yeah. So that... In the first game today... I actually like it. I don't... I don't care one way or the other. You know, it's... I know why the big 12 is doing it. And... And they've gotten so much attention from it. But now they're getting some attention for the wrong reason. Because of the slippage and... I do really see anybody slipping. Today in the... The Texas Tech player did... Uh... Christian Anderson. But yeah, actually people slip on wood floors. Yes. They have. And in fact, I don't know if the floor caused his slip. He could have slipped on any floor the way he... Kind of the direction he was going and... Uh... And when he went down... The... He blamed a little bit on the... Blamed a little bit of it for the... On the court and so did the coach. But I think now it's becoming a... A convenient excuse for players. Right. I think... To me, I don't...
05Like, I think it's a work in progress. Somebody has to go first. First guy through the door is going to take some traffic. That's right. Okay, and that's... That's them. I don't like it when they... Last night when they just had it at gray... You can see the squares how they come together. Yeah. So that you can't do just a flat color. No. And when they went to the hardwood today, it looks immensely better. Yes, it's a very good look. Um... I thought it looked pretty sharp, actually. Um... I'll tell you who... It is great for... It's great for the fans who are sitting upstairs. In the upper deck of T-Mobile Center. Because you're looking down on the floor. How do you get the darker... The darker... The greater the contrast. Yes. And you get the better angle on the graphics. On everything that's being illuminated on the floor. I was... Before it came over here, I walked upstairs just to watch the game a little bit from the hockey press box. The Arizona Central Florida game. And you're almost looking straight down on the floor. And they're running during timeouts.
05And there was an injury timeout. Not a slippage, but just another injury timeout. They're running highlights of the game. On the floor. Yes. That is really cool. That's what we were talking about. Bring this up just a little bit by the way, Blair. Um... The... We were talking about it with Todd when he was leaving. And you were getting here as he was leaving. And I said, we don't go back. Like we're not putting less ribbon boards up. Right? And that's what this is. This is an extension of the ribbon board. So I think this is the future. I think it's where they're going. And I think it will get better and better. You know, even when they mock old school technology, it's done on a modern... You know, I fully expect at some point the green monster is going to be just a big TV with like... The old-fashioned scoreboard up there. Right. It's easier to do. Which they'll do. They'll project it up there, though. It'll be like, okay, when he's batting, it's just green. And then like, okay, there's a pitching change. Oh, yeah. They'll find some... Robert Roberts and Chevrolet GMC bring you, you know... They'll find some way to create a guy with his hands coming and pulling the number out.
05Yeah. Put the number out. But it'll all be computer generated. Yeah, I think it's where we're going and why wouldn't you? I mean, you know, like... So I do think it'll get better just like, you know, with all the TV stuff. Like, you know, if you watched a TV and it was anywhere, you know, it was even a hint of sun coming in the room, you couldn't see it. That's right, you were right. You were blind. You were blind. It's like, oh my God, what are we doing? So we rearranged the house. Tank trash bags over the windows. Yeah, we can think about that. We can watch the DMTV. Well, it's gotten better, you know. And then we got, oh, look, flat screen. And, oh, HDBLA, can't see crap. You know, it's too bright in here. Turn off, you know, get... Let's put a blanket over it. And we'll put our face right up next to it. It gets better and better and better. And I think that's how this'll be. But... We start with this. One... A point that... McCaslin, the Texas Tech Coach had was... You play the entire year on one floor and then you come here and you're playing a different floor without having a real opera...
05Both teams. Both teams are playing. They do, but he... His... One of his points was, you don't get a chance to practice. You don't have a full practice on it. And I'm thinking, is it really all that different? Because... I... Who knows? It does look like one of the things I was noticing today is it... It does look like... It looks like you're on glass and the projection is 12 inches below the glass. That's what it kind of felt like to me. It does not... Like they put the floor up and it definitely looks a lot better with the hardwood... Look to it. But it does not look like the players are standing directly on it. Oh, how cool. I felt like on TV it looked like they are 6 to 12 inches above it. That's interesting because I haven't seen that because when I'm not watching the game live... I'm watching the in-house feed, which is not ESPN's feed. It's the in-house. It's what's seen on the big screen in there. So I don't get that sense of it, but I'll have to look at that. That's how I kind of felt today when I was having lunch and watching them in Mizzou and everything.
07But I do think it's the future. I don't think there's any going back. No, look, if you can monetize it, it's absolutely the future. Yeah. And I think... Yeah, there are a lot worse things than the court at T-Mobile Center... ...that are still in existence because it makes money. Yeah, yeah. And listen, the player introductions are great. And I do think it's running a lot of great. It's a great vehicle for advertisements during the stopages. You're going to... I think as soon as next year, you're going to see... ...like the NBA, you're going to see the merchandise logo on uniforms for colleges. Yep. There is... Yes. That's... It's funny. Anywhere we gather now for collective college sports, a tournament, a bowl game, a convention... ...anywhere there's ADs and coaches in the same place, that's all they talk about are different ways to generate income. And they just have to find ways to pay the players to get the NIL money and the NIL fund funded.
08Just paying less. Yeah, that'll work. I mean, I think they would love to do that, but then they would have to agree to do it. Well, which they can't, but just don't pay as much as your rival does. I won't tell you this. I love how that's like, you know, show some restraint. You know, actually work within a budget. You know, work within your means. You know, be a responsible adult. What? And it's like just not even an option. Oh, slow down there. Wait a minute, that school spent more. We have to spend as much. You don't. You really don't. Stop crying. You knew what your budget was. Don't go over it. Not gonna happen. Not gonna do it. Well, the good news is, the people who won't be responsible, and how they run their athletic programs, are at least only responsible for shaping the youth of America. Well, any more, any more, I hope, the youth of America have good financial advisors.
11Yeah. They need them. There's a lot of things they're gonna need, to be honest with you. But no, I mean, listen, I think eventually it'll just get better each year. Tell you what, though, if I'm, if I'm, you know, AJ DeBanzer, or Darren Peterson, or, you know, co-oped, or one of the stars, and my image is shown on the floor during a game, I want some of that. Yeah. You're gonna, you're gonna show my highlights on the floor. How about, I stands for image. How about stands for likeness? How about DeBanzer coming off the floor and immediately being handed a red bull? Yeah. I was in the press conference. Because he's got a red bull NIL deal. That he signed in high school, by the way. So I was in the press conference, two nights ago, when the moderator asked him to take his red bull out of his hand and put it under the table, and he looked at the moderator and said, what are you talking about? It's not one of the big 12 sponsors. So he did. He actually, he put the can in a gatorade cup and put it down.
11I would have done it. Well, for him. But a guy, a reporter who's from Utah must be covering his games, made sure to ask him what, what his favorite energy drink is. Oh, I saw that. That's fantastic. Red Bull, it gives you wings. Whatever. But what's the limit if he was, if he was sponsored by, like, or like Popeyes, as he walked off the court, they give him a spicy chicken sandwich and he's just snarfed on the chicken sandwich as he walks at the meeting room. I mean, it's what's coming. It is what's coming. It's coming. Well, I don't know how, I don't know how they're, how the university still have shoe contracts. You can have a uniform contract. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good point. Because you got to wear the uniform. My assumption is I would, what I would do if I were the schools in the NCAA is say, you can get a shoe deal when you walk out of here, but the shoes are part of the uniform. And I'm surprised, like, leagues haven't done it. I think they're just like, eh, who cares? But like, I'll be honest with you, and this is, this is my, get off my lawn moment.
13Like, wearing pink shoes or shoes that are not the team colors. Yeah. To me is annoying. I, I see more teams soccer started it and it sucks. I mean, I'm sorry, the pink shoe or just just the shoe that's not the color of the uniform. It's like the look at me. We're already looking at you. Well, I mean, we came to watch your game. We're looking at you already. I don't need you to wear purple and orange shoes when the team colors are, you know, green and gold. Yeah. And that's, you see that in high school all the time. Oh, now it's every, and every kid has different color shoes. You know what? That's what I was going to say. They sell them now as a pair where the two shoes are different colors. Yes. I've seen this. Somebody first grade hoops. First grade hoops. Yeah. What man was a ballin? You got to have it. Two different color shoes. You got to have it. They can't even steal yet. And he's got two different color shoes. You'll see a team walk on the floor and eight different color shoes.
13And I, I've just started noticing that this year. Yeah. But really you'll be pretty doing that. And I recognize I mold. And I'm older. So, you know, if this is the moment that you realize that. Great. Fine. I've admitted to it for many years. But I don't like that. I think the uniform is part of the uniform. Blair's part of the Chuck Taylor. That's right. Chuck Taylor. That's right. Who cares about support? Those are upgrades. Upgrades. Upgrades. Those are part of our converse all stars. Yeah. The problem. Blair goes back to the, to the days when that was the arc. That was the arc support. Yeah. That was the arc support. That was technology at its best. Yeah. The waffle track on the bottom. Yeah. Who here, who here ever had a pair of Reebok pumps? Not me. I never went to the pumps. Yeah. I had. I remember early 90s. I had a pair. First generation converse. That was the big. That was the big. I had a magic Johnson. Larry Bird Converse. Because I was a magic fan. When D Brown combined it.
13I'm not wearing a Reebok. Never. Never had the air Jordans. I never had. I've never owned a pair of air Jordans. Too expensive. They were. That was. Wasn't. Please correct. But wasn't that the first shoe that just reset the market. In terms of value. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Instead of paying 50 bucks for a pair of shoes. Now you paid 150 bucks. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they did wear a discount ridiculous. Yeah. You. You. You might not be able to tell. But I shop only from the discount section. Of shoes. They're not. I know. They were one of four brands that have 11 fatfoot. And are on sale. So those were my colors. About three years ago I saw something on social media. It was. It was a joke about the white guy in his 50. The official shoe of white men in their 50s. And I looked down as like. That's what I'm. White new balance. So wait. I'm like. Oh. Man. But you know what I.
14You are the widest. Yes. Fifty-ish. Yep. Guy on the planet. You know what I buy every time. These because they're a good price. They're comfortable. And they last. Yeah. I'll be 16 July. I don't care. It's a sensible shoe. Yes. And it goes without anything. Oh, yeah. Mr. Those are winners. Playing white. It's just. So I'll beat the next two games later. I'm going to make sure to. Chronicle the color of the shoes that I see on the floor tonight. I want to. I want to. I want to be why you. A chart. Yeah. Let's do that. The official. Blair's official shoe chart. Can I just. I like a scope. One thing I will say about the big 12 tournament. More former basketball players attend this thing. I mean it. The size of the humanity. Down here. Is. Above averages. Which is. Is second only to maybe like the final four where they have all the coaches. The other coaches. Yeah. It's going on at the same time.
14So you got all these guys that were ex players. But I mean the amount of people that are six six or bigger. Is stunning down here. Oh, let me. There's a game update. The SEC term. This is funny. I posted this. I saw it was a 10 point game. Auburn was up 10 on Tennessee. 51. 51. 41. And I posted on Twitter. Maybe Auburn is. And that's a tournament team. Since that moment. 19. Oh, run by Tennessee to take a nine point lead with three 56 left. 19. Oh. Are we all rooting against Auburn? We are. And they are falling into the same circle of teams. It's a bubbleish teams that can't win. Yeah. That are all losing. They're regular season finalies losing in their first conference tournament games. We saw it in Miami. Well, how did today. Missouri didn't do itself any favors, but I think the Tigers are okay. But teams that are. You think. I do think. You don't know. No, no. It's too close. They're too close to the bubble.
14Do you agree? Gabi Arman said that there were six that Missouri needed. By his estimation. Even if they lost today. Even if they lost today. The Missouri need six different bid Steelers to knock them out. He thought that they were six teams away. They were there. They were that safe. Then they'll be fine. They're going to be fine. I mean, they're going to be playing 11. It might go to Dayton. Yeah. Maybe in the bottom four of the 11. I said if you said if you could take Dayton right now and book it. Would you? Yeah. Yeah, I think they're going to Dayton. But I think if you're going to Dayton, it's you really hope you're in that first region. Yes. Because if you get to the fourth one, you're going to be like son of. All right. There we are. There we are. Okay. We're we're we're in. Great. All right. We're going to make it. Blair Kirkoffs with us. He's brought to you by our friends at Arten Frameware House. Framekc.com is where you can see their great work. mention 810. You can get some special discounts. No, when you go to Arten Frameware House, 90 second of Metcalf. Don't forget everything. They frame comes with a lifetime guarantee at Arten Frameware House.
16All right. Who that's that's a that's a good one. Are you good? They're 11 and 16 just over 400. Okay. Really? Yep. Wow. In just big 12. They're not there big a just big 12 tournament. Okay. Since it's 97. Current teams. Well. TCU had been very good. They are eight and 13. Whether that's not the worst. No. Tech. It's got to be one of the Texas schools. Texas.
16Tech. Texas. Tech. They are 18 and 28 guns up guns up. Yep. 18 and 28. They're the only team with it's below 400. Really? Although Kansas State now is at 19 and 29 after their law. So they're close. But 500. You know what I found it. It was doing some. Just look at the record book. You know, I like you do. Like at the Kirchhoff Household. That's called a hot Saturday night. By the way. It's me. There are two schools that are former big 12 members who are even worse than that. Nebraska was 6 and 15 and M6 and 16. There you go. Iowa State has never won just two games at a big 12 tournament. That's crazy. They've only ever won three or one or none. But they've won. They won their second today, which means. They'll be.
16They're going to win. They're going to be their zone of the bar. Right. But they've never. They've never been two and one. What's our Arizona score by the way? K. It is now. 81 at just one final. 81 59. They'll better. They. You see if it closed it to seven. No. Eight. I think at one point early on in the second. Second half. And then it was at that point that. Frankfurt shows it. Hold on. Hold on. Now, this was. I think this was a Billus Shulman game. Billus and Shulman were. Did the first two. I think friends doing the next two. Okay. Wow. That would seem to be battery and backwards. Yeah, especially the first two games. The outcomes have been. Well, both 22 point games, right? That was 22 for Iowa. Unless Billus is like, ah, I'm going to dinner. It got his. It got as close as 12. Actually, the fast. I was thinking of the Auburn. You think Billus has got that kind of juice yet in ESPN? He should have it. I think he's great. Well, he's on the number one team. No, he is on the number. But can he call his games?
16That's a good question. It's like, Dick, you've got to pick his games. Like, I think Billus ought to be picking his games. Maybe does. I think he's great. Maybe does. You like Billus? Yeah, I like. I really like Shulman. I think he's the best show I've played in the game. And I like Billus is the analyst. My favorite. And he's, you know, from our 51st day. So it's true. It's true. My favorite is guy who's just maybe only. Think about it. Players looking at me quizzically. You got to think longer. It's not too long, though. It should pop in. Yeah. DC? No, Canada. Please keep politics out of this. The politics. Geography. It's geography. He's the, where he's from. It's right. What are you talking about? But he's the Blue Jays play by play guy, right? Yep. And he is Canadian, right? Yes. Yeah. I'm going to Puerto Rico. I don't think it's a territory. We can talk about the 52nd. 51. What is going on here? Sean McDonough is probably my favorite.
17When McDonough and Raftery. McDonough is my favorite play by play. TV play by play man outside of Kevin Harland. I would say. People say who your best? I'm like, well, first you have to say Kevin Harland is the best. Take him out of the equation and everybody else. Push him over to the side. Then we'll talk about everyone else who's there. That's my favorite. I watched the Missouri Valley because Kevin Harland is calling me again. Yeah. I mean, he is. Yeah. He is awesome. But McDonough is fantastic. And I always, because also I know whenever Sean McDonough is there, Mike Swanson is probably sitting three feet from it. Right. Because he's like the official statistician for that crew. Did you see where Swany is now? I mean, he's the ubiquitous Swany. Swany has become a forest guy. Yeah. I told my man that you're the forest guy. He is just. It doesn't matter what game I throw on on Twitter. He's like, yeah, I was at that game. I'm like, you've got to be kidding me. Yeah. About three or four years ago, I was watching old. I get bored.
17I watch old like actual games. There was a Monday night football game. Washington Dallas from RFK in 1978. And at the end, Frank Gifford goes, well, take our status. And tonight in the booth, Mike Swanson, I'm like, I guarantee that was him. And I text him. He's like, yep, Steve Hurt was out. And I was like, where have you not been? He is. His latest is. And I'm sure he's still there. He was out. There's a photo of him on social media drawing the lines on the baseball field in San Juan for the world baseball. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. He's out there with a rake in the line on the line. All-star games, Maui invetational, you know, Super Bowl. I just like Toronto. Toronto has won an NBA championship to as a player and won as a head coach. And he is not anywhere close to the most accomplished red town high school grad. Mike Swanson's like, so. Yeah. Yeah. It is.
17It is amazing. The fact that he's also a peach is even. Yeah. Yes. One of my all-time favorite people. I have a friend in the business. Loads Mike Swanson. And I was like, I go, dude, we may not be able to be friends anymore. I'm going to tell you his test. The problem was you. He was such a pain in the ass. I go, I guarantee you the problem was you. Absolutely. I guarantee you the problem was you. One of the kind. Anyway, how about Mizzou? You want to squeeze in a little Mizzou here? Oh my gosh. They came all the way back. Took the lead. And then what? We're done. Yeah. Do we think that they're capable of playing better? I don't know. I just made me who they are. Because it's the same game they played the other day with Mark Mitchell getting 32. Yeah. And they can't lose. It's T.O. Barrett playing. He wrote ballers. Nobody else doing it.
17I don't know. But there was whatever magic he had a few weeks ago. It doesn't have any more. Yeah. And my theory is that they're now defending him. That could. Yeah, I did like before is like we don't know what this guy is. Right. Let's take this away. Take that away. Now they're going. All right. This guy thunders down the lane. Let's we're going to stop that. So play him this way. Play off the ball. You know, don't let him. Don't get beat on the drive. If he wants to have a day shooting the three fine, let him have it. Yeah. The day of adjusted how they're playing him. And the other guys aren't moving around. Yeah. Yeah. Nobody stepping up. I mean, Trent Pearson, Jayden Stone, the keys to the resurgence at the beginning of the conference play. Did they? Four of 10th from the field. Three of six. Three. Were they there? Did they travel? Well, 12 points. One behind between the 21 shots. From our potential. No problem of that. It was 13 and 21. Right. And then 11. For Barrett. I don't think anybody else took more than five. Nope. Yeah. So. Yeah. I mean, that combination is not going to win.
18Let me ask you a question. Especially when you're giving up 50% from the field. They get in and they lose in a play-in game. Or even they win their play-in game. And then they lose in the first round. Yes, sure. What is the seat under Dennis Gates next year? Yeah. Because, I mean, Gabriel and Robert are a really good point. When we had him on several weeks ago, he's like, you're going to have to give him a contract extension. Now, he said this before they had dropped their last three. Yeah. So maybe this has changed it. But when they were looking like they could be 12 and 6 in a double buy. Yeah, yeah. You were going to have to give him a contract extension. And if that final shot goes in. Yeah. So if somebody comes and says, we're going to give him four, four and a half. You know, if a school says that, if you're Missouri, what do you do? It will be back-to-back NCAA tournament seasons. Right. Which used to be expected. Yeah. And now we're rewarding. You're probably going to lose your two guy. Your two. You're going to lose Crow and Bryant if he goes somewhere. Yeah. Right. Two five. You're two McDonald's. Right.
18Are you? Are you? Probably. Or is there a check? Yeah. That's a good point. That's what you got to know. The coach couldn't leave, but the money can stay. I mean, there's no doubt that the player still has to like, they're not going to hate because if they're getting 900,000 or 1.5 million or 2 million. Yeah. You know, yes. You know, maybe there, maybe they're somebody else to give him one eight. I mean, how much does the coach matter? Yeah. How many, how many thousands is the coach worth? That's a great distinction. If you know that that class is because you're pumping 14 million into the basketball roster. Yeah. Okay. Then, you know, Well, would you, would you step up and pay him to keep him from walking if you were a Mizzou? I don't know how much I'd pay him. I think I might be looking at a, maybe some time on the, on the deal. Like a, was it climbing or was it a lipo? One of them got, it was climbing. Yeah, yeah. You got more years, but not a raise. Not a raise, not a significant raise. Well, that's what Jerome Tang really got.
19He didn't get a whole lot more money. He just got this huge. He's got the buyers in the buyout. That, that, that was really what he got. So I think maybe that's where I would be with, with Dennis Gates. Well, if, Drinkwood's got like two more years and basically the same. That's right. Same stair stepping money. It's more, but it's, it's just going up at the same rate it was. He just got two more years on it. And he got money for his assistant. Right. So maybe that's where I would be with Dennis Gates. Are you sure, if you're the idea, are you sure you're not going to be a year from now going? All right. Like I don't think unless he makes a strong run in the NCAA tournament, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not convinced he's not the guy, but I'm definitely not convinced he is the guy. Well, where do we, where should Missouri be? They're, they finished based on their seating, barely in the upper, well, they weren't there. They were the, they were the, they were the, they were the eight. So barely in the upper half of the SEC. That's where they were last year, right? They were in the upper half of the conference. I, I have always believed.
19Three of the four years they've been in the upper half. And they were in a tournament, right? They were a four seed. The first year. They got to double by the first year. And then they went over. Yeah. Yeah. But then two tournament sets. He's, if he gets to the tournament, there should be three out of four. Yeah. I, I'm still the belief that Missouri should be a top four team in this conference, just based on its heritage. And I, along with Kentucky and Tennessee. Yeah. They shouldn't be sweating. Florida. They shouldn't be sweating out selections. No. I think, I think Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida and Arkansas are the only four schools in the SEC. I'm not forgetting anybody. No, no, you got them. Yeah. Those are the only four schools that should, should beat you with a comparable coach. Right? Yeah. There is no reason for Auburn to be better than Missouri in my opinion. No. Mississippi, Mississippi State. Neither one of those. You mentioned Alabama. Alabama. I don't think Alabama should be. I mean, Alabama is better now because Nate Oates is better. Yeah. But that program is not better than the Missouri program. Georgia, South Carolina. No.
19Texas and Oklahoma have Texas A&M. All have. Neither one of those. Neither one of those programs are better. I mean, you could say Texas has more money. And so here moving forward. I would rather coach for Texas because I'm going to have the money behind me. Okay, fine. I'd listen to that. But what have they done since 03? And when do they actually put money into the basketball program? I believe that, you know, they built a brand new arena. And it's now been 15 years. But, you know, I don't think there's any shortage of money in Missouri. Despite what Eli Drinkwood says. I think he can get it done. I do. But I am. I'm really disheartened by this last two weeks from Missouri. I think it was about six games left. We were saying this is what they need to do. Four and two. And there were some good teams. There's Tennessee of course. And a couple of the Arkansas. They had that six and two stretch. And they look like they were up and running. And they were going to avoid the swoon they had last year. They are usually you get somebody back. You add somebody to the mix. You take a step back while everybody's minutes adjust.
21And you figure out how long to play everybody. And what everyone's role is. And everybody figures out how to play off of each other. They're the exact opposite. Yeah. They guys come back from injury. They immediately get better. And you're like, wow. Think about how they learn how to play together. Exactly. And the longer they play together, the crappier they get. They added Pierce and. Oh, we're going to put you over it in. Wow. Look at this. Yeah. That's right. How many different players did we say? Well, this is his team. You know, two weeks later, this is his team. Yeah. Well, they had five guys this year have had multiple 20 point games for them. Which is something. Well, this is just a one off. There's five guys that did it twice. And we were talking after the Mississippi State game. Why don't they have it? Because Trent Burns had a big. And he's got the little baby hook shot now. And Sean Phillips is playing defense. He's got some offensive moves that they have an eight man rotation. And a week later, we're like, do they have a six man rotation? Because they got four guys you can count on and two point guards. You don't seem to be able to know what's going on. That should be the recipe for a.
21A conference championship run. Yeah. That's the type of team to have this. That's kind of type of scoring ability from so many players. And they have not been able to handle it. Yeah, there's no reason for them to have the. We talked about before the roster of the box score breakdown that they had today. No, because they don't have. They don't have a guy who one couldn't they can run the. They have a guy who can finish the other guy who can start. Kentucky doesn't play great defense. That's one of the problems this year. That's why they're able to get back into it. Yeah, it's right now. All right, Blair Kirk office with us. He's brought to you by our friends at art and framework. 35:21The program rolls on here at the PNL as we get ready for the night session. J Hawk fans coming out to see a lot of blue Iowa state fans hanging around. Celebrating their big win. We need Kansas to advance to really get the full force of the big 12. There's no doubt that Iowa state and Kansas are the fan bases that really profits up. I was happy I saw a couple of Arizona shirts. Yeah, a lot of BYU folks here. Yeah, a lot of BYU folks. BYU just has a great fan base. I mean, they do a fantastic job of supporting that program. I'm a big fan of their fan base. And, you know, I think what I saw in the Arizona, I saw people come smile. I don't seem like they're having a good time. I'm like, yeah, you got to bring a coat some years. Yeah, exactly. But it's worth the trip. That game tomorrow is nice. It's going to be fantastic. Iowa state with their playing and Arizona. And if we get Kansas use points. Yeah, that's either one. If you get Kansas Houston or Kansas BYU.
22BYU. How about a TCU used to know? Boy, a tussle of Texas tussle. Holy cow. That wouldn't sell out either one of their home arenas. I ask Greg Gurley. When it comes together, is it a, is it a, does it ramp up? Do you like we're a little better this game? A little better this game? So like if Kansas were to win a national championship. Are they going to be better today? Then they were against K state and then better tomorrow. And then even better in the championship game of the big 12. And then better in the first round. Or can you just suddenly like it clicks and it all locks in and boom. You go to being your full 10 on a 10 scale of how good you can be.
25What do you believe? That's a good question, right? I'm, I'm kind of concerned about Kansas. I think the Kansas state game was a, you know, just a, a scrimmage. Yeah. It was spring football on the basketball floor. I, I, I definitely rather see them score a hundred and win big than lose or, or have a nail-biter. There's no doubt that's better than the alternative. But it's actual value, boop kiss. Exactly. And so I'm, I'm stuck thinking about how they played the previous couple of weeks, which was poor. Pretty poor. They are Missouri-esque, you know? They, they have that, they have that. They had the really good win over Houston in that timeframe. But still that's it. And that's it. And rest of it sucked. They were, the rest of them were losses, except for K-State. Yeah. Um, I don't know. I, TCU's, they're the hottest team in the league. I think TCU could beat him tonight. Um, it'd be great for the tournament if Kansas won. And played like, like we said, either, uh, Houston or BYU tomorrow night. But, um, they, you know what, uh, Tillers got to be better.
29He, to me, he's a big key to Kansas. Is, uh, that, the big guy, the second big guy. Um, he's just got to give him more rebound better, knock down a three. He's, he's got to be better. And we'll see about Peterson. We'll see what, um, see how motivated he is and how healthy he is. But that, that was one of the good things that happened last week for Kansas, as he played a full game and looked sharp. Didn't get defended. But, uh, that won't be the case. He'll, he'll get defended tonight by TCU. Well, he, uh, well, he stepped onto the court like a, uh, an old man sticking his toe into the tub water to see if it's too hot. Yeah. Like because he looks at the court. He'll be like, Oh, there's that. You know, uh, if you've seen it, there's a, there's a, there's a great scene in family guy where Peter has fallen. He keeps falling down the stairs. And when he goes real slow and the minute he touches his foot, he goes, Oh, he falls down the stairs.
29That's going to be penis. Is that going to be him tonight? Uh, I hope not. I hope not. I hope not. Of course not. I'd love to see those. They went. I'd love to see him in the band. Devons ago. At a great. And listen. Have that opening game. Then have them too. And the night or the late session. Even at Kingston Fleming's. Did he not play against BYU? No, he was great in the first half against BYU. That's right. He was out. Then he, then he. Yeah. Checked out the second half. That was one of those drama games. Yeah. Uh, I don't know. I mean, I'm kind of of the opinion. Well, I'll just tell you what I honestly think. It builds self proves me wrong all the time. I don't see it coming together. Right. But I can't just see ends. Feel good. Because I didn't see it coming together in 22. And I didn't know why he kept screwing around with Remi Martin. And I mean, Martin was a pivotal cause. Yes. And winning a championship. So put no stock in what I'm saying. In fact, celebrate that I'm saying it. I don't see it coming together. And it's why I will. That's why I know Bill self is a great coach. Cause he does things that you're just like other guys don't do.
32It'll find the answer. Right. And get some there. But I do not see this one coming together. The distinction between this one and 0-2 is that the two best players on that team. You knew you could count on Ochaevaji and Christian Brown. It was a supporting piece you weren't sure about. And I'm sure they were sitting in. They weren't sitting on as a foreseed. And you're right. I think that's a good point. But there's there's never an exact cop. No. There isn't. So they're in his in history. There's no company. I mean, he's got such a void. He being Bill self has such a volume of work. You can be like, well, a one one. That's not really dominating wigs. Yeah. Okay. A team that seems more talented. That's not really performing. Okay, 22. Like he's got enough. Yeah. Books on the shelf that you can pull different ones to say, well, chapter eight from this one and chapter seven from this one. I mean, this is, but this one. This is its own. It is. I would say it's its own beast for any school. Yeah. I want to say there's never been a school in the history college basketball that has had the kind of season of Kansas. This is having right now.
32We try this one on Blair. We were talking about of the one ones that were. I'll use the term flaky. Ben Simmons, Mark L. Foltz. And who's the third one I said in Anthony Edwards. Yeah. Three guys who went one one who didn't make the tournament. Yeah. Yeah. But Ben Simmons went to Ellis. You Mark L. Foltz went to Washington. And Anthony Edwards went to Georgia. Now, I can't remember where Mark L. Foltz was for. If he was from the Seattle area or or not. I know Ben Simmons was from Australia. So he wasn't going to play anywhere near home. Anthony Edwards went. He stayed home and went to Georgia. He's from Atlanta. And so I get that. But like all the ones that kind of you're like, well, wasn't that great. How big a winner is he and went one one. They none of them took the power programs. Foltz was from Maryland. Yeah. So they usually, you know, if but the ones the one ones that come from power programs. I mean, they they do things in the tournament. Now is that because they have better talent around them?
32I think that's part of it for sure. The ones that the other one ones that you mentioned. I wonder how many of them even had second NBA players, you know, on those teams. Washington seems like it's always had some first round picks. That team was under 500, I think. That's how ordinary that Washington team was. But I don't know. I don't know what kind of NBA talents on this team after Flory. Because it's not just that he didn't play. He plays and they get their aspect. Yeah. And it's like the longer he plays, the worse they do. It's right. Like it's mind boggling. And I want to believe it's just kind of a statistical anomaly. A chemistry anomaly. You know, he plays the days they play the better opponent. Or the days he has played, played the whole game. You know, somebody else's dinged up or tired or just has an off night. I mean, I am entirely open to this just being.
33It couldn't have gone any worse than it did. And so that if it starts just kind of evening out, then maybe they're going to be hell on wheels. But maybe I also think it's entirely possible that he crushes the offense. I mean, I think everyone's like, well, everyone else is just standing around. What was the ball supposed to keep moving? And it just stopped at him. And everyone's like, well, I'm not going to cut because the ball didn't move. And so it's supposed to go to the next guy. And I'm supposed to be cutting. And the ball has now died here. And so is he, you know, I don't know what Bill Self says are. He scored 20 points nine times this year. They are five and four in those games. That's crazy. How many times do you see them run that weave up top? Which, which, you know, when Bill Self first got here, okay, eventually they're going to make it. They'll, we'll see 20 high lows. Yeah, right? Well, the weave kind of starting in 08 became something up top. Like, okay, they're going to do it three, four times. It feels like this year. Not like we've seen it. You know, is that because the ball gets to him? And okay, there's, you know, I'm running towards him.
34Oh, he's not coming towards me. Okay, I guess I'll come back over here. I just don't know what's going on. You hate being still seeing a work in progress in third second week in March. And Bill Self is cold at that. Yep. You know, and that's, that's his camera. So did they win tonight? I say they do. Do they find a way to win? Do they get to the finals? No. Okay, there it is. Blair Kirkoff is spoken. Blair, you're the man. We appreciate it, buddy. Do it next week. Okay. Blair Kirkoff from the Kansas City Star. All right. Which school won the last big 12 tournament played at Kemper Arena? Brought to you by LeFeta, Delicateson.
