I recall, Curtis just texted me and asked me my favorite power ballad, and I think I just rattled off the air supplies, like the greatest power ball at band-of-all time. Cool. All right. Can you have a power ballad when you never rocked? It's debatable. I mean, I think that's the legitimate point about how to do. What do you can do that if you never really rocked our harder than a power ballad? Yeah. Like, kiss with Beth. Yeah. Okay. You got it because you were face melting guitars and, you know, boom and drums and all that. And then like, Beth, what can I do?
You know? Okay. Well, then you can do that. But I mean, air supply was just that's kind of what they did. That's what they were. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's like, no, I love Neil Diamond's power ballads. Like, I don't know. That's just Neil. The only thing except nothing that song was different, it was the arrangement that wasn't the song they wrote. Was that right? It was written by Jim Steinman, who wrote all the songs for Meatloaf's Battle of the Hell album. Okay. Yeah. And that guy, that guy made a lot of good career choice. Talk about the clips of the heart. Remember that one? It was written for Meatloaf. Same guy. Yeah. Yeah. I think it was written for him. And he said, now pass. Both of those two songs were written for him. And the record company didn't want to pay Jim Steinman for him. So they wanted him to Meatloaf to write a, they wanted Mr. Loaf or meat to write his own songs. Marvin is really. Yeah. Turns out the low couldn't. And he's like, ah, no, sing fine, right? No. So they gave, they sent both those records songs to someone else and they both were number ones. Yeah. And just because I'm a nerd, I know that totally clips of the heart was number one at
the exact same time that making love and nothing at all was number two on them to the world. Is that right? Sounds right. It came out the same here. Two songs in the country. And then we had a tie back then, didn't they? Wow. You could write, you could write show tunes. Yeah. Alright. Let's talk combined. 4.36 means what? And do you even know what I'm talking about? My great point. I guess if you're, if you're the person who ran a 4.36, I guess you're disappointed for some reason. Not a problem for me. I mean, that's still pretty darn fast. Well, we're talking about, it didn't look like. Yeah, we're talking about Jeremiah Love for people who don't know. We ran a 4.36, which is a blazing speed for running backs. I guess he's 210 pound running back. 2014 pound. You know, at six feet tall. Come on out Curtis. Let's get it right. I bet. What, what, what, what happened with Jeremiah Love and the chiefs as far as you're concerned with what he did in the combine?
To me, Brad, we just talked about it before. I mean, you know, what you're looking for out of the combine in the pro days and all these things is that you're looking for confirmation of what you saw on tape, or you're looking for something to make you question what you saw on tape and go back to it. I thought that with his combined performance, I thought he backed up everything that people think that he is. So I think you would have to feel pretty good about it. Hey, you're going to take Jeremiah Love. If you've got him as one of your top 10 players, top, top, you know, an absolute first ground grade on him, I think you still do. Yeah, I, I mean, I don't think anybody, I think the question is how far up did he go there? Now people saying he's going to go two or three. Does that, you know, ring true with you? I mean, you know, I've been thinking about this for a while and I kind of hit on what, how I would think I would describe it. To me, as far as, you know, drafting and running back in the philosophy and when they go early and here's the thing, I, and maybe all I have is anecdotal evidence of this.
Maybe I need to really go through and look at some of the draft picks to prove out this theory. But my feeling on it is that, hey, drafting and running back in the first round is a great idea if that's the one piece that you're missing, especially if you're a team like the cheese that is generally been a pretty good team. I mean, yeah, what their issues were this year, you could certainly, if you want to make the argument that it was some execution issues, some injury issues, some of these things that they, as Andy Reed would say, that they can clean up. If you're of that philosophy, you know, Jeremy, I love the running back might be the piece that you need. It's the teams that are 15 pieces away that, you know, the running back is not going to do anything for you, especially if you don't have a quarterback. So see the Raiders faster. If you don't have a quarterback and you don't have a quarterback, you're drafting in the top three. So that's one reason why you probably shouldn't be taking a running back. But that's my kind of feeling on it.
It's pointless to take a running back in the first round early. If you don't have a quarterback and you don't have a rest of the team, it could be a brilliant move. If you're like two or three pieces away from being a contender and the running back is that one spot. I don't think Jeremy I love is going to turn anybody, you know, for the most part. Most of the teams that are drafting in the top ten. I don't think he's going to turn any of them into all of a sudden Super Bowl contenders. So maybe the Chiefs. There's a sweet spot you could be as far as how many positions you need to be at number nine. If you only have one spot, it's not great because you might not get the value in the one spot you want. If you have too many spots, you're like, yeah, I have more guys than I need. One, you've got a lot more holes. So I'm not sure what the sweet spot is and what the Chiefs are with that. But if there's one factor, I was thinking about this morning. The life span of a running back is generally not long. Do you need him to be good enough to get a second contract?
If Jeremy I love is. He is. Safe one, Barclay. And he is that good and can be that good for four years. That's the 31 34 or two, three, four years of Patrick Mahomes. I think that's something you can possibly deal with because you're not going to probably want necessarily need him beyond that for your peak years. You're looking at the last five or six good years of a quarterback. Or is it championship level? If you can get the top shelf running back to pair with that for those years. Maybe that makes more sense than if Patrick Mahomes was 23. Is that how does that impact? I think it's I think it's smart. I mean, I think it's I think it's well put. I mean, I do believe because of Mahomes age. And because Mahomes is in place to Matt, you're point about having the quarterback. Like it did. Yeah, if you don't. The Raiders are going to spend the prime years. The prime years of running back serves the moment they're drafted. And they're going they're almost headed downhill on like year three.
Okay. And so if you're going to waste his best years while you're trying to figure out everything else. It's a dumb pick. By the time Mendoza is good enough to be an impact player. Yeah. That's your gentie's going to be. Yeah. Unless Mendoza is just a rocket ship. And then that's that's going to be a mistake. There is the element of like you wanted all in place. So that when the quarterback steps in, he's got plenty of weapons around him. And that the Kareem Hunt pick was one of the most important picks. For the chiefs of the year before Patrick Mahomes got there. Let's remember, he was drafted and played with Alex Smith. But the fact that he was up to speed and ready to go. You know, it was part of you know, Patrick Mahomes inheriting an offense that was running. I mean, they had a former top five pick as the number two wide out. And they had Tyree Kill and Travis Kelsey and Kareem Hunt. So when he stepped in, he had everything around him. And we'll see. We may think differently of that Raiders situation. You know, once once we see him play. But to your point, I think what the 436 did to me is one. He ran it on what's supposed to be a slow track in Indy.
He has legitimate, that's going the distance speed. It validated the 90 yard runs. It validated the tape. His weight, his height coming in where it is. He's a big enough back. He's not a little bit of guy. You know, he's not, it's not, he's not, you know, and I want to say amaciated. He's not unbelievably skinny running that like. Yeah. Like we saw Xavier Worthy. I mean, he still fits the prototype of the position. It's not just speed. Speed is one of the things he has. 45 pounds heavier than 84. Yeah. If he ran a 448, I would be adamant. You cannot take him at number nine. I still don't think I would take him at number nine. I need to see all the breakdowns on everybody else and who was there. But if they take him after he ran that 40 and has all those measurables. And the age that their quarterback is. And the fact that he's probably going to need to just hand off. His escape ability isn't going to be as good.
At least initially. And he's getting older. It's a justifiable pick to put with Patrick Mahomes now. That we've got the full body of work that he's going to give the NFL that you want. Yeah, I agree. I mean, I can think it is justifiable, even if the chief do sign a running back in free agency. Not depending on who the running back is to a certain degree because. I mean, if they sign a guy like a breeze hall or a Travis at the end and they give them by 30 million dollar guaranteed deal. Then all of a sudden, you know, you're drafting a guy at nine that you're also going to give 30 million dollars guaranteed to. And all of a sudden, now you get 60 million dollars guaranteed tied up at a running back for three to four years. That gives me a little heartburn. But at the same time, I'm paying in theory that you could probably just absolutely cut through the rest of the league. I would still wonder, you know, whether or not two guys like that in the 80 read offense can get enough of a workload that would make them both happy.
But I mean, there's just there's nothing not to like about Jeremiah love. I mean, the kids 20. It's not like he's coming out after having been, you know, through NLI and COVID and is coming out in these 25 years old. I mean, this is the guy who's like you mentioned. I mean, you're getting getting his prime years. If he is everything that he looks like, then, you know, you're talking about a second contract potentially. And now you're thinking about, Hey, maybe this is going to be your guy that's your running back for the next seven years and is going to take you into your new stadium and maybe take the homes to the end of his career. I mean, it's those are some heavy things that's be thinking about and, you know, potentially be able to build your team around. But, you know, again, I mean, it's running backs or a bit of a crapshoot. You don't always know how long they're going to last. You don't know if they're going to live up to the expectations. There's a volatility there. That's a risk and the chiefs do have other needs. So, hey, I think it's going to depend on what happens during free agency. It will certainly depend on where other teams go.
And I'm really intrigued to about the fact that, you know, Brett Vitch has talked about the fact that some of the best players in this draft are at non premium positions. And it's the kind of one of those conundrums of the NFL draft. If you're sitting there at nine and you've got the best running back or in the third best defensive end. But the best offensive or best linebacker, the best safety. I mean, where do you go? You know, do you go with a non premium position perhaps or do you just stick with, hey, the sensitive ends are hard to find. You've got to get one of those. I mean, it's that's I don't think that the bridge is going to have an needed decision at nine. Another question, and I think maybe we'll be able to get some indication as the next couple of months play out is if if the chiefs have if he's risen in their eyes, he's probably risen in the eyes of other teams above them. And I'm sure that those the eight teams ahead of the chiefs have more holes to fill them the chiefs do. I don't think it's anybody like Casey who's just a good team that fell off and maybe just looking to rebound.
And you do run a risk of now he there's a less of a likelihood you would think just out of logic that he'd be there at nine is we be able to tell what they're where they're going or where they might be going in that regard. Just this regard is as it applies to to love by what they do in free agency. If we're if they go all the way through free agency and they don't put any money on a major in a back. I think you're more likely that that's a guy they're going to at least try to shoot for. If maybe they might move up one spot, whatever it is to get him. If they do go out and put spin some money as you said on somebody. Because part of part safe to say they're not going there at nine. How much would you think free agency and how the chiefs play. I will lean lead you towards what they might do at that spot. I mean for me, I think it's a big indicator. I mean, like I said, I think it would have to give you a little bit of heartburn to sign a guy and then draft a guy and. And tie up that much money into two guys at the running back spot. So I mean, I feel like it's certainly one of the other. And if you can't, I mean, if you want to add explosion to your backfield and have an explosive running back and have some dynamism.
Your plan can't be hoping that a guy falls nine. There's too many things in front of you that can go wrong. So if you're the chiefs, I don't see how you can just not sign a guy in free agency. Now, if you with on all the guys that you want, then that's the problem. I mean, if you know, if the transition tag franchise tag takes out a play, brief haul and Kenneth Walker and Travis at the end, you can't land him. And now all of a sudden, maybe you're down to your fourth, fifth or sixth choice. I mean, there's still good some good guys out there, but not necessarily slam dunks that you're going to say is in the category of Jeremiah love. But again, you can't bank on love being there being part of the plan. So I think you have to assume that you're not going to get him and act accordingly. By the way, Washington at seven and New Orleans at eight, New Orleans was building. They think they've got the quarterback. So those are two teams that I think could feel like, no, no, we can be in the playoffs next year.
Washington is a team that I would scare me. Yeah, those are the ones that, you know, if you think they could go there. It's Chating Daniels with Jeremiah love would be something. Yeah, and so I think those are those are spots. Listen, let me point that point out this. This is what you're going to pay in nine. Whoever you take is going to get 5.6, 7, 8.4 and 9.8 million. Right? Yeah, they'll give some signing bonus and bring that number down and probably backload the back end number actually end up being more than that in the front number. Probably end up being less because they'll give him a, you know, it's, it's a $30 million contract, $31 million contract for a pick number nine. Right? So like that does put him, you know, that, that will be, I do think that the pendulum is swinging and the running back. We've already seen it. It already has. Germante Williams got eight million, got three for 24. One year after getting one for three. So the league recognizes, oh, we screwed that up last year. And I will go back and said, Germante Williams was the guy I brought up.
That's why I always turned to him because that was the guy I said last year. Well, go get that guy. Give him a couple of year deal. You know, I like, I'd like to see him that you can cut a guy after one. But if you get him on a two year deal, now some guys are only one up one year proof of deal so they can get back into free agency. But if you'd have seen what Germante Williams is last year and signed him, you know, then you wouldn't have this problem right now. And to your point about signing somebody and drafting somebody, I get it, but they're going to sign somebody. And they're going, they're going to try to draft somebody because they only have two running backs on the roster. So they, it's not about what they want to do. They have to sign somebody. The question is, it's just going to be a bunch of league minimum guys with a fairly high draft pick. Tyler Algier and somebody into third round. You know, does, is Tyler Algier in that second tier of running back? Is he going to get paid like a starter or is he going to get paid like, hey, you're a second fiddle guy? I don't know. But I mean, priest homes came to the chiefs.
You got to catch those running backs when the market's down. And then there's no reason to give him big bucks on a second contract. So, you know, to Curtis's point, I do think where Patrick Mahomes is. If you say we've got the next five years with Mahomes and we'll have, if we take him in the first round at nine, we've got him for five years. Four plus the fifth year option. We're marrying him up for his four for his best years with the last best years of our quarterback. That makes it a little bit more possible. But yeah, I mean, I think the running backs are going to end up being more the good ones. Breeze Hall and all those. I think they're what's his name from Seattle. Yeah, Kenneth Walker. Yeah, Kenneth Walker. I think they're all going for 10 plus. And so, this now makes drafting love a cheaper option. If you're like, whatever we do, we have to get some plays where our quarterback can just hand the ball. We need some 25 yard plays that don't involve the quarterback having to do anything. And not just breather, breather runs.
Yeah. I'll give you the option of just signing a running back or two. And maybe taking a road grader tackle. Yeah. And that's one of the things that I've been talking about with the running back spot is that I think that to a degree, I think the cheese were actually a little bit ahead of the running back curve during their kind of run with the Super Bowl wins. And that I think that they were, I mean, at least moneyballing it. They had some really good rushing seasons when they had Damien Williams and Darryl Williams in the back field. You know, as they have to check those first year, I mean, they were getting it done, like 1800, 2000 yard rushing. You know, out of their top two guys, maybe not 1,000 and, you know, 1,500 out of a guy, but like 1,600 from another guy and you're getting there, you're getting the yards that you need, but they weren't putting a ton of money into that spot either.
So, you know, and there are teams around the league that have like a two back setup that do a pretty good job of it. So it's not like you have to have the beast. You don't have to have one guy that's going to get you 1800 yards. You can get by with a running back by committee. I mean, there's teams around the league who are doing it. But, and honestly, I mean, Seattle's kind of one of those teams, because Kenneth Walker, I mean, this was contract year for him. He was pretty inconsistent until this year. And even this year, until the playoffs, I mean, Sharper Day was a huge part of that back field too. I mean, that's the thing is that I think you can have it. You can have a multi-vax field. You don't have to have a number nine overall pick. You don't necessarily have to have a 30 million guaranteed guy. But you've got to have two guys that are just more dynamic than the check of what Hot War this year, who are younger, more dynamic, got more juice. What about trading back and drafting Caden Proctor of Alabama?
I saw one mark draft that Adam going nine to the chiefs. But like, one of the, one of their big mistakes that they made this past year. And I think one of the reasons why Matt and Aggie's not here is the fact that they have a wrestling road grading center, a road grading guard, another road grading guard. And they played, what is it, the option football, the RPO? RPO football instead of lining up and unleashing the beast. Right, we'll put this kid next to them. And then Simmons, the challenge with him is always going to be to keep weight on him. But he is powerful, his punch is powerful. I even think, I don't think he's, I think if you just said we're going to pull the guards and we're going to, you know, run some countertray and we're going to get our big people knocking their big people back. You've got the offensive line for it. If you had this kid who came in, he's down to 352.
And still ran a 5 2 and then jumped like 33. What do we, we had avert of 32 and a half inches at 352 pounds and six feet seven inches tall arm length 33 and 38. He checks the 33 inch minimum that everybody wants. What about adding him along with, you know, a couple of decent backs. How much better does the run game get at that point? I mean, that's the underrated route to kind of go. I mean, we keep talking about running back, we keep talking about defensive end. The idea that you, you get your right tackle of the future to pair with with Josh Simmons. And now you feel like you're pretty much set for the next four years for sure. Maybe beyond. I mean, and have arguably the best offensive line in the league. Yeah, that's, that's another way to go. I mean, especially if you do address your other needs elsewhere. I mean, again, I don't know if the necessarily the chief's need a $100 million edge rusher as much as they just need a guy that can fit what spags and what Joe called wants to do.
They've got talent at that spot. They just need the somewhat. It's just a little bit tapped into it. And let's not forget that I think that is they just had a legitimate defensive tackle that you could put next to Chris Jones as more of a one tech that could eat space, do all those things. I mean, maybe a Kendrick Coburn without a bad attitude. Maybe they would have worked toward them. That's what they need. But right tackle is an underrated way to go because it would be a really good way of building a line because we'll look at what the chief spent in trying to rebuild that offensive line after the injuries and retirements of Mitch Schwartz and Eric Fisher. I mean, they spent a ton of money in the last six years trying to rebuild and put together that offensive line and retool it. And how many offensive tackles have they gone through? I mean, it's ridiculous. And my only real concern about Kaden Bracher is just that gosh, 352 becomes 372 so fast.
And we've seen it before. He played at that at Alabama and was playing left tackle. Well, and maybe maybe maybe it's a better way to put it as a 372 can turn to 392. I mean, I do get it. But he's not just a tub of goo out there. I mean, he is he's not. No, this is not just some. I mean, he looks a hell of a lot more like he's ready for the swimsuit competition than Dawkins and Buffalo. I mean, God bless him. He's sloppy fat, but they snapped the ball and the feet are amazing. But that guy looks like a sack of donuts been stuffed into a condom or something. That's an ugly look for a uniform. But he can play this kid. I'd be almost more worried that he's, you know, who is that guy? But the chargers took one of the Alabama kids who was like this. I was real big and looked real impressive getting off the bus. And then he couldn't play tackle. They moved into the garden. He sucked at guard.
I forget I'm drawing a blank on his name. He was the guy that was holding the trophy. He was saving it one of the one of the things. He was on the cover of a bunch of the magazines because he looked impressive. You know, but then he couldn't really play. But this kid by all accounts can play. And so I just thought, you know, trade back, get him. Go in the second round and grab, you know, the Dennis Sutton. Danny Dennis Sutton from Penn State, a 660 defensive end. Give Steve Specknolo is long defensive end. You know, he's projected to be in that second or third round. Hopefully in your trade back, you pick up another third and maybe a pick next year or something. And then you take the guy Curtis and I love the Washington running back. And Jonah Coleman. And now, okay, now we've got, we've got a tackle. We've got an edge. We've got a running back. And I've still got a third round pick to take the best of what's on the board. DJ Fluker. That was him. DJ Fluker. Yeah. But I mean, whether it's, listen, it doesn't have to be, you know, they don't like him. If he don't quit, whatever it is, they don't like the point being just get another tackle.
To make sure that the homes is protected, but get a tackle that fits with what you, what your interior line does. And then design the offense around what those guys do. Well, and then that's, that's definitely the, I think the concern and everything like that is that it's great. If you got a road grading offencing line, you just got to be willing to road grade with them. And again, I mean, I, I, obviously, I've not been the world's biggest fan as the cheese trying to be multiple. And there are offancy blocking schemes. I still feel like that you do one or the other. You know, it's hard to be really good at both man blocking and zone blocking. Most teams do one or the other and they, they, they, they, they master that and they try to get it down. The chief the last five or six years have tried to be multiple. I don't think it's been a great strategy for them. But yeah, I mean, if you want to get a bunch of road graders and then, you know, run out of man blocking scheme and just knock people over and bowl, bowl them around.
I'd be all for that. I mean, I absolutely would work with that group. Yeah, I'd like to see a little more bully ball. It's not a bad idea to, you know, that's one way you can run the football. You can get to running the ball and take some of the pressure off my homes. Maybe you don't have the big home run threat. You know, and Jeremiah love, but you can get a guy that can get your 15. Get your 12. You know, and you get an offensive line that can wear people out so that the past rush is a little worn out after having, you know, 1700 pounds pound on them the whole game. You know, I, I think that's, that's another way to do it. Trent Brown, the Patriots won a Super Bowl of Trent Brown playing left tackle. And he was listed like 380. Okay, so, you know, just size and he's still playing league. I can't remember where he's playing last year, but Texans. He wouldn't need to start for the Texans last year. Trent Brown. I think he might have been, yeah. I mean, he's still playing and he's a mammoth guy. So I don't know. What else? Anything else from the combine jump at you? Are you think that the chiefs ought to be intrigued by?
You know, I mean, I thought it was, I thought there were some interesting things that came out of a couple of spots. I mean, I know, like, you know, Carnell Tate, everybody's talking about this 40 time and, you know, maybe some kind of explain that and everything. I'm, I'm once again, I mean, I'm really fascinated in some of the non premium positions. I mean, good grief. These Ohio State linebackers just are absolutely ridiculous. Everybody's, you know, marking about our values. And now, you know, we already have so many sites that going into top 10 to and everything. I mean, it's still, it would not entirely stun me at the chiefs, particularly if they traded back. If they did trade back to pick up more picks and then ended up with, you know, someone that we're not talking about. Maybe that they think they do go safety. Maybe they do go linebacker. I don't think it's the most natural idea. I mean, I think it's just glossing over a couple of obvious needs. But then again, I mean, if, if they're at nine and Ruben Bane and Skahn, David Bailey's gone.
Jeremiah Love is gone, which I'm looking at like VokDraft database right now. All those guys are gone before the chiefs get on the board at nine. I mean, I would, I think I would be most seriously considered trading back. And whether it's, you still address premium positions, whether you still address offensive tackle. I think you could be trading back. You absolutely could trade back. It's still going to cadenproctor. You know, that to me makes a lot more sense for the chiefs than they can put it nine because again, they need more drastic. So, and I think, you know, Brett and what he talked about last week. I thought there were some curiosities there and everything. I was still surprised by just the takeaways that some people had. And obviously the, you know, with, we've got the report today that obviously, you know, John Taylor was going to be released. I was stunned that anybody thought that and took away from. Well, Brett was saying last week that he thought they were going to keep him. Well, I don't, that's not, I don't think that's what Brett beat for saying. I mean, he just, you hold out hope that some dumb ass will be like, we'll give you a seventh form.
You know, and, and you don't cut him until you have to. That's what I call the last week. He's just controlling assets. Right. He didn't want to say, well, we're going to cut him. But at 31 other teams, no, you're going to cut him. Right. You know, I mean, we see this all the time with, oh, so and so is trying to, you know, trying to trade so and so. He's like, no one's going to trade for him. You're going to cut him when you get to the deadline. We don't have to trade for him. It's the same thing which you want Taylor. I was going to throw it in real quick with you and say, listen, maybe I should bring it up because it is news on national sites like ESPN. But here in the program, we cut him the day they signed Jalen Moore. We, we cut him with a post 2025 designation. We're going to go ahead and cut him now because he's going to play 25. But then he's cut, make no mistake about it. He's cut. So I, it's here in Kansas City. It's not a story. We sort of walk in dead man. He was blocking cut man. 100%. I will ask you though about the David Montgomery trade. A, a guard in what's the guy's name?
Scrugs. Jews. Yeah. Juice Scrugs. I mean, if nothing else, I'd like to hear my brother hip hop artist. Yeah. Juice Scrugs. Opening act is new as new songs about to drop. Yeah. But he was the 76th ranked guard on PFF for what it's worth. So that's how much the player mattered in this trade and a fourth and a seventh. So the chiefs could do a fourth and a seventh and. I mean, Jalen Moore would have definitely got it done. Jalen Moore is definitely, I think, I think a more premium player than juice Sugs. Would you, should the chiefs have been looking to get in on some David Montgomery? I would have been interested, but that Christ point and his age would have, would have had me not being too excited about that. I agree. The general, general convention of wisdom was that maybe a fifth for David Montgomery. So a fourth plus pick plus a player.
I think there's a dramatic overpay. I mean, maybe not dramatic, but curious from the, and every time I, I want to take Texans off my list of teams that don't know what they're doing. There you go. That's what I was, you read my mind. The way I was going to put it was, you know, just when I start to think the Texans might be a threat, they go and ease all my concerns by overpaying for a running back with a lot of tread gone. Yeah. And on top of that, I mean, now they've, they've jettisoned two of the guys who were, two of their better offensive linemen last year. Often offensive linemen almost got their quarterback killed on a weekly basis. I mean, if they're going to find five brand new linemen great, but now, you know, trading scrubs, trading tight as Howard. I mean, I don't know if it makes a whole lot of sense to me, but you know what? Texans going to do what they do. Texans going to Texan. I mean, that's, that's who they are. I agree with you. That's the exact same way that I, I look at that and, you know, I would have been the same thing.
Like, hey, what do you give us for David Montgomery? Huh, nothing. I'll wait to sign him after you cut him. You can get something more power to you. And then I'd call the Lions you and be like, well, I guess there's a soccer bone every minute. Congratulations, buddy. You know, you, you got it done. But yeah, I don't, I don't see the need to, uh, to make that move. Matt, great stuff as always, buddy. We appreciate it. We'll do it again next week. Sounds great. Good to have you back. Ryan, hope you enjoyed. All right, the law fed a delicatessen end of the hour answer. Four chiefs have been named AP defensive rookie of the year. VT. And that's, um, Derek Thomas. Not just AFC. It's all the NFL. Derek Thomas. He is one of them. You, the question was, who was the first to do it? It's not him. Derek Thomas was the second. Art still. Nope. Not that far back. Bill Moss. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. 1984. Uh, Billy Bob is just looking for his, of course, is pulling up the perfect
more reference to that. Yep. It is asking for a security verification. Make sure I'm not a bot. He was the first. Uh, there have been, I mentioned there have been four. There have been two since then. Uh, by the way, happy birthday to Bill Moss. And happy birthday. He's, he shares 54. He shares a birthday with my friend Bridget. Happy birthday to Bridget. Yes. Uh, and, uh, Bridget White. Um, and then, uh, he shares Bill Moss shares, uh, birthday with, I think it's the single season sack record holder for Rockhurst High School. Uh, Mike. What was that? Oh, you met him. I'm sure I have. I don't, my brother long. Really? Yeah. Fantastic. Happy birthday to my brother, my Ted Brooks. Yeah. I came over. He's the career or single season. He's good. In the Rockhurst Hall of Fame. So, uh, happy birthday to, uh, to them as well. Uh, yeah. Popular day. It is. My wife has like 19 people.
She knows. No one. Today's their birthday. She's like, took her like 20 minutes to send all the texts. Facebook put a lot of pressure on you people that look at it. He was like, I've got to write a copy of one and then post it, paste it into. I do. I do a pretty good job of putting it on your contacts, if you're in my phone. So, I, if I happen to scroll up there to the top, you get a happy birthday for me. Yeah. To people that love you some Facebook and that. Well, well, you can't get away from it. Not on it anymore. And I think they got the point where I've just. Hey, thank you all for giving me here. I'm not going to go through 200 and thank you. Thank you, thanks, Jeff. Thanks, Bill. Thank you. Two more. I would say thank you to Christina. Yes. Bill and Jeff, maybe not. Yeah, forget it, forget it. And you're shoes. Yeah, but also depend on like, is this a person new for my school, is this person who is a follower on, so I'll hit like or whatever. So, okay, so this thing the best. But there have come seven, 11, eight, no reason to get too fired up about saying happy birthday to Curtis
because he don't care. I will tell you, it ain't got time for your crap people. There are a few things I care less about than my own birthday. Really? It's, I mean, name one, I can't, someone else's birthday. Now, even someone else's birthday means more to me than my own birthday. I was like, yeah, cool. I just, I made it another year and there comes the point where it's like, so what? Yeah, I appreciate the wishes. It's just, if no one ever wished me happy birthday, I'd be fine. I was here almost 20 years before I got the, the company, the company email. Hey, it's so-and-so's birthday. I'm like, I hope they never do. And finally, they did. And I was like, I wanted the streak to continue. I, I don't know if I get one. This is what I know why? You'd know about a month later when you. When I, maybe, maybe, maybe. I just don't look at the emails. So, thanks if I get one. Not worried if I don't.
So who are the other two? Most recent, most recent. Oh, defensive player of the year. Defensive player of the year. A defensive rookie of the year, sorry. Defensive rookie of the year. AP defensive rookie of the year. Eric Mary? Nope. And Dominic and Sue, one of that year. Okay. Tremac Duffy didn't get it. Since DT. Since DT. Two since DT. Positions? Yes. Both were corners. Dale Carter. Dale Carter in 92. Boy. Well, who my, Tremac Duffy didn't get it. Another first round pick. First round pick corner. Who am I going to see? He went number 18 overall. Marcus Peters. Marcus in 2015. It's see, we, we, we scrub the bedpans.
After that 10 year here, he's not much in the memories. No. We said, if it's a rookie of the year in the next year, he was the first team all pro. Oh, he was also a first team all pro in the season in which he was played for both the Rams and Ravens. But my favorite Marcus Peters moment to me was when he was with Baltimore. And the chiefs went up there for a, and may have been in 19 for a Monday night game. And they just torch the Ravens. And it was so obvious that, that everyone on the chiefs offense, Andy Reed, whoever's, they knew he'll buy it on this play. And, and Nicole Hardman just destroyed him on a, on a play just like they knew exactly what he would do. He's going to come off his guy and do this. And he did. And they, they, they don't seem twice. I think that was so obvious. I, I, I'm sure the minute they saw that game on the schedule, okay, we know what we're going to do that night. And when I, if I played Marcus Peters,
I would draw up a new play, get him in man, audible into this play, bring the wide receiver in it, tight end. And I'm kicking the tackle out and you're fine in 22. And we're going to run right at him. Yeah. You know, little combo block, get Peterson just in the neighborhood and you go find him. And you would watch a little guy in a 22 run from a big guy in a 77. Yeah. We're, we're hunting him. Yeah. You're going to tackle some, you're, you're not going to tackle anyone. I know that, but you're, you're going to, some big people are going to be, you're going to play up here with the big boys today. For sure. For sure. But he often, he was, he was successful some time, but he'd risk. He'd come off his, his guy he'd read, but the quarterback was going and he'd take somebody else's guy and leave us so unopened. He was the James Winston corners. Yes. And he was better than James. So he was pretty good at reading that. Let's give the man his deal. He was pretty good at reading it. Well, it's James Winston's fun. He is, at least he is now. Yeah.
He's out of college. He's, he is a very enjoyable person. Oh, I think he's always, he's always, yeah, but he's always been that way. Mark Speeder has never been an enjoyable person. 4.36 for Jeremiah Love. What is it? You, you okay? If the chief's taking a nine. Kyle. Yeah, but I think it's just, you know, it's my own selfish. I just love watching a really good run game. Yeah. You guys know I like Army football. I like guys who come to football. Oh, I do too. And frankly, it's, it's just been brutal. To watch these last couple of years. The running backs. Yeah, I, I, I'm with you the Air Force and Army Navy when they, when they've got those fun run games going and Georgia Tech was playing that ball down there. Love, I love those. I'm with you. And I'm okay with it because of, you know, there's like, well, they've got a lot of needs elsewhere. Well, that'd be true, no matter who they pick. They pick a tackle there. They got a lot of needs elsewhere. One of those needs is running back. And that seems, he seems to be the one guy that with the, where this team is constructed, at least one of the guys,
that if he's legit, and that's a question regardless of whoever you take at nine, he has the potential to, I think, change this team's fortunes the most in the next five years. If he's something like Barkley, if he's legit, 1,200, 1,300 yard guy with explosive 80, 90 yard touchdown run potential, it completely alters this off. And so I don't know if you can get a position player. And I think I think McAfry is the better comp. Just because I think Barkley's a little more powerful, a little more squatty, you know, like a little more, you know, elusive outside receiver-ish, right. Which of these Christian McAfry that should put this team over the top, the question is, would you be better off with a, I mean, I love the idea of trading that one of the things that I love about this is it makes him a trade target. There's no other running back on his level. No, the Arkansas kid did a lot to bump his stock up with what he ran
on the 40, but, you know, to me, I like the idea of there being multiple guys that teams could want to come up and get. So that the chiefs have the opportunity to get more picks. That's true. It's something not just short of a quarterback, but yeah, has the, yeah, has that value, game changer value. Like Mendoza is going to go one, but I actually don't think anybody's trading up for one, right? No, number one, the team that needs a quarterback is holding the pick. But are you sold on Mendoza? I'm not, I am not either. I am not. I think he's, he's benefiting greatly from the fact that he's the best quarterback in this draft, but he's not, he's not Andrew Locker, one of those guys that you think, or Joe Burrow, you think might change the franchise. But I think Caleb Downs being on the board, somebody could want to come up and get him. I think he looks like he's a generational safety. Yeah. David, David Bailey's a guy. Arvel Reese's combine numbers made him even better.
He's a guy that could want to trade for. I'm just looking at like a mock drive. I think Carnell Tate is somebody that being that get the top wide out. Teams could want to come up and get to him. I think love would fit that bill. I think how'd you say the Miami office of tackles last name? Maui Goa. Maui Goa. I think we'll be coveted as we know of Fano's arms came up short. So he's going to slide. Ruben Bain could be. And then if they get a consensus on who the top corner is, those are the guy want those guys around at nine. Because I think they could be the target. The apple of somebody's eyes to come up and make a trade. Rabbit up hour number two. We get the two minute drill coming up next hour next segment. It is now. We will talk to Philadelphia Charlotte Phoenix and to San Francisco.
Trent Williams in a contract discussion with the 49ers. We'll discuss that. We're going to break up the Charlotte Hornets. They're just too good, too good. We'll discuss that. Don't even know how. Don't even know how. Don't even know how. So looking forward. And then Kyler Murray. Whereabouts unknown. Let me at least like whereabouts he's going to play. Right. Unknown we don't physically worry. Yeah. I mean, I don't. But I assume just when he comes to his job, there's going to be this new guy. They're doing it. I like it. There are actually like if you, if you're the Vikings, Kyler Murray and Tua. Could it could be available? They were just going to give O'Connell an upgrade at quarterback. You know, it's always funny. Like, no, no, don't want to want to a kind of give it to a. The Vikings like, oh, yeah, we'll take him. Like, you see, I mean, Tua look pretty good. Hell yeah. They're winning.
Yeah. I'm kind of, I'm kind of intrigued. Very much so. Yeah, I am too. I'm kind of intrigued by that. Um, a combine anything else jump at you from the combine? Um, Bill, how's state kids? Yeah, sunny styles, blue up, um, checking almost every box possible. Is it the cool uniforms? It's a lot of money. But I mean, I was assuming that. A lot of other guys could have got a lot of money in or they have just been absolutely. They have been Alabama ask and producing high end talent. Yeah, you draft after draft after draft. It's crazy. It's crazy every year, every year. Um, McKay lemon didn't help himself. Uh, weird answers in his press conference. There was a, I saw a video circulating that there was a drill in which all the receivers were instructed to run a certain route and go three quarters speed.
And he looked like he was about 30% in the ball went, you know, 20 feet over his head. So he's, his stock is not improving. Uh, Emmett Johnson and the grand, the Nebraska running back ran the slowest 40. So that puts him on the slide. Oh, one of the other was at Falk. One of the edge guys was doing this thing where you go around this circle and do something and he was like, my God, is he slow? I think it was Falk. It wouldn't, wouldn't reach. It was Falk. Was it Falk? Yeah, I was like, Oh, that didn't help. Well, cross him off then that is that guy does not have any bend. Yeah, that will be a problem there. All right. We'll take a break. We'll come back. We'll get to the two minute drill still to come. Gabe D. Arman in the five talking about zoo. All right. Since 1990, how many times has Kansas been out rebounded by 20 brought to you by Lafeta, Delacatessen.
