Greater Manchester Orders 55 Electric Buses

0:00On March 14th, Greater Manchester's Mayor Andy Burnham has ordered 55 new electric buses from the Northern Irish Company, Wright Bus. These zero-emission vehicles will join the region's bean network to help modernize public transport. He announced the order during a visit to Wright Buses' factory and Balli-Mena County Antrim on March 14th. It's part of a larger 66 million-pound investment, bringing the total number of their buses on roads or in production to 200. Andy 3, with more expected soon. By the end of this year, half of Greater Manchester's buses should be electric, a big jump since bringing them under local control. The long-term goal is a fully electric fleet by the end of the decade, which will cut emissions in polluted areas. Burnham also checked on 76 double-decker electrics from a prior order, now in production, and ready to serve communities next month. The region favors UK makers, with nearly 500 buses already from Scotland's Alexander Dennis.
