Grace's Law: Unenforceable? Garda Concerns

0:00On April 3rd, Grace's law just kicked in this week, named after 16-year-old Grace Lynch, who tragically died in a scramble by crash in Dublin. The new rules straight up ban those bikes on public roads and places, aiming the cut down the chaos they cause. It also hands Guardi's stronger powers to seize the bikes and keep them off the streets for good. Sound solid on paper, right? But hold up. There's a big catch coming. A top voice from the Guarda Representative Association, Padreke Harrington, called it basically unenforceable. Guardi lacked the right pursuit training, so they can't chase riders without whisking their own necks legally. If a cop crashes during a pursuit, they could face dangerous driving charges and lose their personal license, even on duty. That's why no one's jumping into high-speed chases, unless lives are on the line right now. Guarda Commissioner Justin Kelly echoed that, pushing for laws to protect officers with special driving rights after one got prosecuted over a, scrambler bust. Until they fixed this, the laws got no teeth, leaving streets exposed to the same old dangers.
