Google & Meta Face Social Media Crackdown

On March 26th, a jury in Los Angeles just ruled that Google and Meta deliberately designed

addictive social media platforms, sparking talk of a turning point like Big Tobacco for

the industry, countries worldwide are responding fast, with Australia already banning kids from

these sites and others rolling out stricter rules.

In the United Kingdom, the government launched a consultation this month on setting a minimum

age for social media access, eyeing a ban for those.

Under 16 and curbing addictive features, the House of Lords pushed back hard, voting

266 to 141 to back an under 16 ban, marking the second time.

They've overruled the government on this.

Consultations wrap up by late May, with plans due by summer's end amid a political standoff,

as leaders weigh how tough to get on protecting kids.
