Girls Served Insect Repellent at Restaurant

Two young sisters in Perth got a scary surprise at a local Italian restaurant when they were served insect repellent instead of cranberry juice. The 12-year-old and 11-year-old drank some before spitting it out, realizing it tasted off. This happened back in June of 2024 and Mikey's Italian fusion in the suburb of Crawley. The mix-up came from a bartender grabbing the wrong bottle. A pink citronella solution used for torches and lamps from the fridge. The family rushed the girls to the hospital after calling the poison center. Luckily, they were treated and released after a few hours with no lasting harm. Parents Marcus and Michele Lemine described the panic as their daughter's stomachs burned and hands tingled. They confronted staff who first claimed it was just old juice, but eventually showed the bottle. The moms said they were lucky the kids weren't even younger. A department of health probe followed, leading to court this week. The former owner, Michele Anjuli, was found guilty

1:02of selling unsafe food and not keeping proper oversight, plus two other charges. Magistrate Donna Webb noted the restaurant lacked management and staff food safety training.
