GIANTS POSTCAST: BULLPEN BREAKDOWN Costs Giants a Series Win

And today, the Giants were on the verge of their first rubber match victory since July, but an eighth in and collapse by Carson Seymour spelled another come from ahead lost for the Orange and Black final score 4-2 from City Field. The Niam battled reliever first Surrender Day solo home run to start the eighth inning and later on in that same frame gave up the back breaking three run bomb to Boba Shatt.

1:08All four runs that the Met scored today came in that eighth inning against Carson Seymour. Giants couldn't do anything on the other side and fell 4-2 ultimately. Seisour Pernomo, the lone bright spot really for the Giants in this one today. He was excellent. How does he profile as far as you know the future of this starting pitching staff for the San Francisco Giants in 2027? The loss today unfortunately wraps up another disappointing road trip for the Giants. There are meekers 6-17 and 2 in series away from Oracle Park this season. 2:10The only thing that really hurts for me in this one is my guy says our Pernomo not getting the win that he certainly deserved in this one. See more. It's the second blown save of the season. He's been used in high-leveraged situations in AAA prior to being up with the Big League Club this year. He's really not an R. My Trust late in this in games. I think that he's building a needed hole right now. And I think next year, I don't think you're going to see Karsin see more in this type of role. And I don't really know how this guy fits in as a big league or at all at this point. I mean, I don't think he has the stuff to be a late in a shutdown guy. I don't think that he's got the stamina to be a starter. I don't really know what this guy has. He's kind of an enigma to me. I mean, sometimes the fastball looks okay. And sometimes he's the stuff plays. And then other times it doesn't. He's 27. He's a big, big body out on that mount 65 to 64.

3:11And you want a guy like that to be able to just get downhill and get real like right on top of the hit or real fast. And it just, it's not really what you want. It hasn't come to fruition the way that we all envisioned and hoped it would. Or Karsin see more and he's got a, you know, an ERA of 579 this season in his career. He's just one in five, one in six now with a 516 ERA. I mean, that's. It's just not very good, man. It hasn't worked out very well for Karsin see more. I wouldn't expect him to be in this role going forward next year in that frame. He gave up three hits. He gave up four runs and he did also walk a batter. He gave up two home runs in that one frame. He only runs all day that were scored for the meds because her Domo was great. And I want to get into the positive. So we'll get into we'll get into the positives, man. Today's player of the game and what you'll be talking about says our fair Domo. This is the walk done player of the game. And what more can you say about this kid?

4:11He gave up zero runs over six innings of work. Only gave up three hits, walked one, struck out four in his 10 innings that he has pitched at the big lead level. A sub one ERA, ERA of 090. I really like what I've seen from this guy so far. And another, another very efficient outing form. He only had 83 pitches through those six innings. So I mean, you still want to see him stretch out a little bit as a starter. But 48 of those 83 pitches for strikes. I think that's a, it's good enough. You would like to see him throw a few more strikes. You know what I mean? But ultimately that's a, that's a pretty good ratio. I would like to see him get a hand in the count a little bit more. 52% of the time, first pitch strikes 11 of 21. I would have liked to see more of that, right? And he was doing a lot of the work today with the change up through that 36 times only through the fastball 34 times. So he threw the change up more than any other pitch mixed in 13 sliders as well. But the average exit VLO is really what impressed me today 90 miles an hour average exit VLO.

5:12And on that change up 86.8. Even when guys were touching it, it wasn't going anywhere. And that change up also got it in 5 out of 8 times for a first pitch strike. It was the fastball that he was struggling to command as much, which is why he kind of went to that change up. And that's really not how he's profiled this year. It was a surprise, I think, to see him throw that change up because he's only thrown it. We didn't see it at all in this last start really. I mean, he threw it 7% of the time in his prior start. And he threw the fastball 53% of the time in the slider 40% of the time. So he mixed it up a lot today. And what I saw from Sayezar Pradoomo is that he's not afraid to use his secondary pitches. And that is something that kind of makes him a little bit unique compared to all these other giants. Young starters that we've talked about, right? Like the issue with blade tidwell is is not really the stuff or that he doesn't have enough pitches. Although I would like to see tidwell really develop a third pitch. It's the command. And then when you start talking about like tugboat, he's got the command, but he doesn't really have the secondary pitches.

6:13And that seems to be the issue with some of these other giants starters is that they, you know, these younger guys is that they just don't have the other pitches. They only have one or two pitches that play at the big league level. And it isn't going to be something that you can stretch out over three times through the order. What we talk about with Anthony Molina after his last outing, he's been great. But because he only has those two pitches, getting him to get through an order three times is a little rough. Say is our perdomo, like I said, in his first outing through that slider, 40% of the time today. He threw it 16% of the time through that change up in his first outing, seven% of the time today, 43% of the time. This is a guy who's not afraid of his secondary stuff. I mean, and for the change up, he threw eight times is the first pitch of the up that. I mean, he's throwing you off speed in any situation. So that is a very good sign, I think, for this kid as far as a guy who can maybe profile as a guy who can eat some innings out there. I mean, he did not go through the, he went through, started to go through the order a third time, but didn't get through it.

7:16Ultimately, I really like what I saw from this guy today. You didn't see the Velo dip really at all on that fastball either. He was sitting right around 93 miles an hour for the entire game. All 80 some odd pitches that he had in this outing, very, very, very, as I said, efficient outing for Predomo, seven groundouts, got three flyouts in this one as well. So overall, I like the way that this guy profiles as a starting pitcher for the Giants and in every, every one of these young starters that we get to see, I kind of am trying to give you guys a similar look at it from a similar lens. You know what I mean? Like what is this guy got to work on in the offseason to be able to make an impact in next year's starting rotation. And how does this guy kind of, you know, what are what are strengths, what are his weaknesses and for Predomo, you know, his biggest thing to work on over the offseason is stretching out. He's got to get, be able to get up over 90 pitches, I think. I mean, if you can make it three times through an order like this guy is, I think a lock almost, I mean, you would like to see him get a few more starts.

8:17And he will before the end of the year, but he's a lock at least for being a guy that they can look at in spring training for like he's, he's earned his spot, I think he's earned his try out for next year right in Arizona. So I don't think there's anything that he's going to do after today's start that's going to sour the Giants enough that he's not going to get a look next year as a guy who could maybe fill in as a starter. We've obviously seen some good stuff from him. But yeah, I mean, like I said, the biggest thing for him, I think work on those first pitch strikes work on stretching out a little bit longer so you can get through that batting order a third time completely. So really the biggest bright spot for the Giants today was Predomo, but other than that man, you really had an anemic offense. He had Rafi Devers striking out three times. Yeah, Drew Gilbert striking out three times at the top of the order you had, also a Veece, but so they're striking out three times as well. A lot of strikeouts for the Giants today. No walks 12K's zero based on balls and they only had five hits. So you know, five base runners tough to win a ball game when you only got five and the other teams got nine.

9:21So we'll take a quick break here on the other side. We got to get into a little bit more about the offensive struggles from the Giants today and just the struggles in rubber matches in the second half of the season really since the all start break. It has been really tough for the Giants to win these these third games of the series when they got a shot to get a series win. Really ask the bed today you know what I mean four to two loss for the giants today after they were leading to zero going into the eight inning all you had to do was the same thing that you'd been doing on the mound for the rest of the day the met's not a very good team this year 65 and 78 but you know who they are better than is the 59 and 85 San Francisco giants who continue to find new ways to lose games.

13:48And it's just like a musical chairs of which bullpen arm is going to collapse today today it was Carson Seymour's turn and and that wasn't that was rather unfortunate but the giants you know yet other opportunities today you had you had a ton of time in this game to try and add on you got your two runs in the fourth inning. Thanks to John who lead deliver in a single that scored two drove in Bryce Eldridge and Jonah Cox. Of course, Bryce Eldridge is at the the middle of the giants scoring he's been in the middle of the giant scoring for like the last month anytime the giant score run seems like Bryce Eldridge either started the rally or where he's driving runs in or he's moving guys up in a productive out situation. He continues to be locked in I really like obviously what we've seen from Eldridge all season long he's batten 262 he's got an OPS over 800 he's got he's got 15 home runs that he's got 20 doubles the way this guy has been playing. I mean he's really really really showing you why the hype is what it is around this guy and for his age I mean guys only 21 years old that the sky is the absolute limit for Bryce continue to show that with what he did today.

14:55Unfortunately the rest of the giants offense not very good today against Tobias Myers who you know maybe I could I could stomach the lack of run production against a guy with the ERA north of six if he was a lefty just because the giants have been really bad against those against lefties this season. We're facing a guy who had an ERA is here right now 613 after today's game. You couldn't you couldn't hit this guy I mean all season he's got one win all year and you couldn't figure out a way to beat this guy I mean come on man the giants are the get right team for every single other team this season and it has been really frustrating especially as of late and especially in these rubber matches because the giants in the second half of the season. You know how many rubber match wins they have exactly one and it came in July July 29 against them against the Milwaukee Brewers it was at home on the road this season in the second half.

15:55Giants of zero rubber match wins you've had opportunities all over the place you had an opportunity in Seattle didn't get it done then then you had an opportunity in Texas against the Rangers didn't get it done then well don't worry because then you came back home and you had an opportunity against the Detroit Tigers on August 9th. Nope going to get that one done went to extras lost that one as well but then you took on Houston Astros in the next series and again just a few days later Wednesday August 12th you had another chance to win you lost a one run game 2 to 1 to the Houston Astros then Colorado Rockies come to town surely you can get the series against the Rockies but nope August 16th two two days before triple is birthday the Giants could deliver a win last 13 to 7 you let the Rockies put 13 runs on you at home. At Oracle Park man well maybe you can get the Guardians in your very next series in Cleveland August 20th Thursday August 20th you know you won the prior night one zero maybe you can access some of that momentum.

16:58Nope you get land and Rube on the bump and he gets he gets another loss and he has not been very good for the Giants this season they've lost a lot of land and Rube games this year he's just 7 to 13. The Guardians take that one 5 to 2 and then you get swept by the Boston Red Sox so you didn't have a chance to win the rubber match there you did have a little bit of good news against the Cincinnati Reds in the following series against the Red Sox because you did win that series although the two wins were the first two games of the series so that's not a rubber match win rubber matches the third game of the series after you've tied up the first two so you did have an opportunity or a similar situation again in Pittsburgh where the Giants just wrapped up their losing series to the buckles you lose the getaway game 5 to 2 and then you come to the come to the big apple you go to New York you play the meds and after a 9 to 5 win last night you come back and you lose or to 2 when say Zapperdomo is absolutely shoving on the mound gives you 6 solid innings it's just how this team has gone this year man this team has been so bad in the clutch it is I mean the most anti clutch team I maybe you can't do that.

18:09We have ever watched play baseball at 3rd and King it is it is really hard to see this team continue to lose games in these situations on the season rubber matches they were actually pretty good in the first half of the season because they're only 8 and 12 and with all those losses that I just listed off in rubber matches in the second half of the season as I said only one win in rubber matches in the second half of the season so far the other 7 came in the first half of the Giants actually had a winning record in those rubber matches. Since the second half of the season has started since the trade deadline since the Giants knew they were completely out of the race you see what happens in these situations I also think it's a little bit of a byproduct of seeing a lot of the veterans on this team leave you have a lot of guys who are young and working through these situations and in a lot of guys making their debut this year you've seen so many Giants players make debut this year and guys you just have not had a lot of playing time also getting some run Giants that's what they should be doing but you're not going to be able to do that. You're going to get stuff like this where the Giants kind of leave some meat on the bone opportunities that they could have capitalized on you're going to see some losses in situations like this where they probably should have won and ultimately this is what the Giants have been this whole season I mean they have 12 walkoff losses you know what I mean like the most in major league baseball they've let other teams come back and win 38 times this season 38 times that is so insane man I mean this whole team has been anti clutching.

19:38When they're trailing after six innings 1 in 62 this season that is perhaps the stat that sums up this year for the Giants the best 1 in 62 when they're trailing after six innings the most anti clutch team I have ever seen in my life the Giants just more the same but at least you got Pradoomo it's a little bit of positivity that you can take away from today's game last thing I'll leave you with series on the road Giants this season really really really bad with the last today there's six and 17 and two in series away from Oracle Park at home you're 11 and 1 so you've actually won more series at home than you've lost which is a good sign but you know good teams figure out a way to win on the road Giants just not a good team this year it's all the time we got for you guys today here on the lockdown Giants postcast Labor Day game tomorrow we will be having a Labor Day show tomorrow as well I'll be out there at the yard I guess I'm going to be able to do this again. Just like the punishment you know and I mean I just like to see the the the pain and despair up close with my own eyeballs at least find out at Oracle Park it's it's a vibe you know and I mean it they can't take that away from me this team might be awful but you're not going to steal my joy of getting out to Oracle Park and having myself a day at the yard so I'm gonna be spend in Labor Day at Oracle Park taking it some base well I feel like that's the best way you can spend Labor Day right we'll be doing a show tomorrow afterwards as we always do here on the lockdown Giants postcast and social media.
