In total, 33 such picks went to 15 teams, with the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Steelers, each grabbing the maximum of four. The Ravens, who used to be coached by Giants headman John Harbaugh, now lead the league all time, with 64 compensatory picks awarded over the years. These picks come from a formula that looks at things like player salary, playing time, and postseason awards for free agents lost or signed. Teams with a net loss get picks to balance it out, but no one gets more than four in a year, and some special ones go for diversity efforts in hiring.
