Get better gas mileage

0:00Tuesday tidbit time now, the, uh, like helpful life hacks that you would get from scrolling TikTok except you don't get stuck in the doom scroll with our show because we're about to do cash in a flash at 740 and give you $200. But how to combat high gas prices. Everybody's dealing with it these days. I am. I'm literally my light came on as soon as I pulled into the parking lot today. So I know I have to fill up whenever I leave work and I'm not looking forward to it. And that stinks and you're not going to like the first tip to get better gas. Oh, he's going to be to drive safe slower. Yeah, slow down, get familiar with the cruise control. Uh, if you limit your speed and drive a little bit slower, your gas mileage can increase by 14%, but that's no fun. Um, you also only want to idle your vehicle when you absolutely have to. Your car has one of those like turns off whenever it stops, right? Yes, I always turn that off because it scares me. It spikes my anxiety every time it shuts.

1:02It sounds like the car just shuts off every time you're at a red light. It freaks me out. Even with $4 gas, you're letting it run at a red light. Listen, if not, it's my internal gas that's spiking and getting used up in effectively because I'm freaking out. Uh, reduced drag by cutting back on extra weight you're hauling around. So if you've got a big like five gallon water jug, just hanging out in the back of your car, probably get rid of that, okay? Uh, pay attention to your tire pressure, maintain your, uh, your ride. Oh, interesting. Okay, I'll check my tire pressure. See if it's good. Figure out ways you can carpool or combine trips so you're not constantly going, drive less basically. That is smart. That is, yeah. But also kind of irritating that it's like, we're going to give you a hacks on how to save money on gas and it's like, well, don't drive. Yeah. Whatever. Uh, use apps like gas buddy to help you find the cheapest gas. Oh, okay. And if you need a new car, don't overlook the hybrids.

2:04Would you ever get a hybrid? Maybe. Yeah. I mean, I, I like being able to have the convenience of having a car that you can fill up versus like, I've heard some stories about some of the electric vehicles and how long they can take to charge and that you're just kind of sitting around waiting for that to happen and like, if there's cold weather, that can affect it too. Maybe it's not charging as good that idea scares me. And so like, you know, maybe a hybrid, but I don't know that I'm ready to go full electric. Julie from Brandon texted us about the, uh, the gas hacks thing and how to save money on gas. She said, I hear y'all talking about a hybrid. I have a hybrid car and it costs an extra $75. I get my tag renewed fully electric cards and extra $150. That's crazy because already it is so expensive to get your darn tag renewed here, Mississippi. If you have a car that's above like 10 years or less than 10 years old, you're paying so much of how much that car's worth every single time you get your, you know, a lot of

3:09complaining, but they keep the roads so nice around here. Yeah. Yeah, I'm definitely not out here playing Mario Kart every single day with my real vehicle. Allison, you were saying how you're scared of the auto stop and Eris Aaron has an experience to tell you about. I had auto stop and at a red light, it did its thing and then it wouldn't start the second battery died. Uh, and because it was dead, the other wouldn't crank. It was terrifying. Had to get towed literally my nightmare. And so the thing that me and my buddies were talking about, somebody said, well, why, what is it with old people being against the air conditioning in their car? You're right. You're right. They think it saves guts. Yeah. And that is the most hilarious thing because it does not save you gas mileage, not using your AC like it doesn't, it doesn't give you more length on a tank of gas just because you're driving around hot all day. Well, this is so funny to me because whenever I was like a fresh 16, so I was really just

4:10kind of using my mom's old car. But at one point, my dad needed to drive it for like we were definitely sharing it. And so he had used it the afternoon before and then I was going to drive it to school the next day. And the air conditioning was turned off because his wasn't like against using the AC while driving, but he had the belief that if you were going to start the car and the AC was automatically going to pop on, that was just going to be too much for the engine. Like you got to do it one thing at a time. The radio's got to be off. It's all got to be off and then you can slowly turn things on in the car. But I because I had never turned the AC off, I didn't know how to turn it back on. And so I'm driving around Houston, it's hot as heck and I cannot figure out how to get my AC working. Of course, you know, I'm in high school. So you had a car pool with somebody, so I go to pick up my friend to drive to school and she is like, why is your car so hot? And we could not figure out how to turn the AC back on. The ultimate irony about old people not turning the AC on to save on gas is that if you

5:13roll your windows down, you're going to increase drag. You're actually going to get worse gas mileage than if you would just put the AC on. That's hilarious.
