Geno Smith Returns to Jets, Bridge QB Option

This came right before the New League year started on March 11th. The Raiders had planned to release the quarterback, but the Jets jumped in to secure him instead. The tray made sense for New York because they wanted control over Smith before other quarterback hungry teams could claim him off-wavers. Las Vegas agreed to cover most of his salary, which helped them avoid much dead cap space anyway. Fans have mixed feelings about Smith, especially after his time with the Seattle Seahawks and Raiders. He drew booze and made gestures toward crowds during games, adding to his reputation for clashing with supporters and teammates. Smith was originally drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 draft, but physical altercations led to his exit. He didn't become a full-time starter again until 2022, with Seattle, where turnovers and inconsistent play became issues. While his career has seen ups and downs, including links to coaching changes in Seattle and Las Vegas, the Jets now have him as a potential bridge.
