A trusted gardener stole a prized 7-ounce gold nugget from an 86-year-old man in Bebe near Lester. The nugget, mined by victim Roger Bound in Australia, back in 2004, fetched over 15,000 pounds when sold. The two met when the gardener worked at a local golf course, leading Bound to hire him for yard work at home. Last summer, Bound kept cash payments in the nugget, hidden together in the kitchen ice cream tub. Next visit, Bound told the gardener to grab his pay from the tub himself. Instead, the 42-year-old Christopher Darlison pocketed the gold too, even though only Bound, his son, and Darlison knew its spot. Bound noticed it gone on July 6th, and pegged its value way higher, up to 200,000 pounds, thanks to its rare sunfish shape. He'd since passed away, hitting his family hard. Meanwhile, cops napped Darlison by a jeweler, CCTV, where he sold it for 15,300 pounds cash and later tried buying it back. He pleaded guilty of magistrates court this week, but they bumped it to Crown Court on April 29th.
He's on bail, bar from the street and Bound's son. We'll see the full fall out soon. Stay in form with Lester News today, AI-powered updates. I'm Corey with the story.
