Gamecocks Make SEC History with All-Star Players

0:00On March 3rd, South Carolina women's basketball just made history with five players earning all SEC first or second team honors, tying the conference. Records set back in 2001. Southmore forward Joyce Edwards landed on the first team for the second straight year, joining an elite group as just the third gamecock to do so in. Her first two seasons, she averaged nearly 20 points a game, third best in the SEC, and shot close to 60% from the field. Raven Johnson also shown on the second team, picking up her second nod there plus SEC defensive player of the year for the second year running. She set career highs and scoring, assists, and shooting, ranking fourth nationally and assists to turnover ratio. Tessa Johnson earned her first second team spot as the SEC's top free point shooter at 44% while Tania Latson and Medina O'Cote. Rounded out the group, O'Cote led the conference in rebounding with 10.9 per game and notch 20 double doubles. The top seeded gamecock's head to Greenville this Friday, March 6th, for the SEC tournament, tipping off at noon on ESPN against one of Arkansas, Kentucky, or Georgia.
