Gamecocks Crush Record, Advance in NCAA Tournament

0:00On March 22nd, South Carolina's Women's Basketball team dominated Southern University in the first round of the NCAA tournament, winning 100, 3-34, on March 21st. It marks the largest margin of victory in program history, sending the game cocks to the round of 32. The team shook off some early rest with shaky three-point shooting and turnovers in the first half, but still built a 25-point lead, thanks to, tough defense that limited Southern to 19 points before the break. Joyce Edwards exploded for a career-high 27 points, mostly before halftime, while senior Tanya Latson added 17 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals to fuel the offense and clamped down opponents. The third quarter sealed it as South Carolina outscored Southern 32-to-2, with Junior Tessa Johnson notching her first double-double on, 14 points in 10 rebounds. Freshman had got maker-impressed in her debut, with 15 points, three steals and three boards, and bench player Alicia Turner-Bies grabbed 11 rebounds.
