He traces his activism back to the 1993 Rockefeller Initiative under President Clinton, a brief moment of optimism that collapsed by 1996. Now, after 30 years, Bassett claims disclosure is imminent. He insists that only a sitting U.S. president can make it official by publicly acknowledging the truth.

Donald Trump’s recent statement pledging to “ask all appropriate entities to release the UFO files” marks a turning point, Bassett says, because it represents a direct presidential promise to act rather than merely endorse congressional efforts. In his view, the ultimate goal isn’t just to open the files but to have the president “end the lie” once and for all.
