Former Guardsman's Prison Release Linked to Campus Shooting

A gunman opened fire at Old Dominion University in North of Virginia on Thursday, killing one person and wounding two others who are now stable. The shooter, 36-year-old Mohammed Baylor Jalow, also died in the incident. Officials say he targeted an ROTC class on campus. Jalow was a former National Guardsman with a serious criminal history tied to terrorism. Back in June of 2016, he traveled to the Charlotte area and spent hours trying to buy an AK-47 and other weapons. According to a core filing, an ISIS member had connected Jalow with a contact in the US, but that person turned out to be an FBI informant. No one sold him the guns, and he faced federal charges as a result. Jalow got 11 years in prison, plus five years of supervised release for his actions.
