0:00Welcome back, midday show. Hugh Douglas, Joe Julia, you guys with us, 215-592-94, 94. Well, the flyers have my attention. They have all of our attention right now. Porter Martone with the game winner yesterday and they are currently in a postseason spot. Heard Al this morning saying it could be the flyers and the penguins in the first round. We could have flyers penguins and either Nick's sixers or Celtic sixers. That would be Hugh quite a couple weeks around here. Yeah, man. That's a, uh, I mean, we gotta get tickets for all that stuff. Gotta go to a couple of times. Oh, I mean, I, yeah, I mean, I just imagine like back to back. We haven't had that in a long time where it's like- Yeah, we were gonna change the dirt with it. Well, no, because they got to change over to the, uh, the arena. Right, even like- Somebody we had to be on the road. You can't be out there the same. Yeah, even like different like one day, like a Saturday, the flyers were home. Sunday, the sixth storm. Like whatever the schedule is. Yeah, of course. Oh, I know. I mean, we had, it's been years since we had both them in the playoffs at the same time. 2-1-5, 5-9-2, 9-4-9-4. Do the flyers officially have your attention? And we'll give you a matchup in the bracket of Hughes.

1:01It is our championship game, the matchup. And that, of course, is loose slips Douglas against bottom-down Douglas. As we crown a champion by this show, also the J-On-Hurt situation, which everyone continues to weigh in across the NFL about the hurt stuff. The articles last week, ESPN, Philadelphia Inquirer, Jeff Beclayne on with the, uh, the guys on Saturday. So it could usually be the biggest story in the NFL. And one thing that came up on Friday, we brought it up again today, it's just, it's in my head, it's just a cerebral MVP still matter in this discussion. It just doesn't matter. It just, I, but does it mean anything for his future? That's why I keep coming back to it. No, it doesn't, but it means, it means for a lot of people that, you know, he's accomplished that. And so why are we hating on him like that? Why are people hating on him? But what about all those players that want it? And then their teams moved on, or it was over for them very quickly. Okay. Well, that's not J-On-Hurt. Well, you know, it's, so the funny thing is, you said it, it's why you're hating on him. The perceived hate is us questioning his future. Yeah. And the response to questioning his future is, well, he won cerebral MVP, guess what? That happened in the past. Yeah, but that's, that's what people are stuck on. And they're wondering why, you know,

2:02why is he getting out of his vitriol? They should ask the people inside the Eagles. The biggest issue right now. With vitriol. The vitriol that he's getting from the vitriol. We're wondering if we can run this next freaking offense. I have, I hear you, no need of you. Yeah, you're making me nervous. You know what I'm saying? Why don't you say again? It's, it's, it's unfortunate, but when we had this conversation about this quarterback, particularly this one, that when you talk about the tangibles, the order intangibles for that matter, that it always comes down to that. That's what it is. May I give you a theory? Because everyone deep down knows, he's not that great of a player. Everyone knows this that watches football, everyone. And I think there has been a facade of, well, he just keeps winning. So maybe he'll be the ultimate winner and he doesn't need to be that great. And as that starts to fall off a little bit, I think people are worried. That that's, I just think there's insecurity about this quarterback for a long time. I think there always has been, because he, what, let's be real, he wasn't supposed to be this, right? He's overachieved based on his draft stats, right? So I think there's just a general sense of insecurity about the player. And whether or not you believed in it from the jump

3:04or you didn't, it doesn't matter. There's insecurity, there's insecurity about how long this could continue. And I think there's a feeling out there, the league is caught up to jail and hurts. But that's what last year was. The league caught up, the defense is figuring it out, don't work out. He didn't, he didn't run. It didn't do himself any favors by changing his game a little bit. Of course not. Especially if he, if he can run and didn't, not, I'm skeptical he can run as much anymore. And I think, I think, I think the thing that's getting lost in the story for a lot of people is that Jayla's not buying into whatever they're trying to run. And when people hear that, you know, the immediately they talk about how well the coordinated note he was doing. Yeah, but that's coping. Well, that's how people see it, Joe. I know, but instead of thinking like, okay, well, there's certain way and there's certain timings that the offense has to have and he's not doing that. And it's probably going to be some of the same thing this year when Coach Manion comes out there. It's going to be some of the same copium that you're talking about. Yeah, I mean, look, how people feel about certain things, I can't get people's heads. All I know is this. It's obvious something's going on here. And when I talk about them moving forward,

4:05it just doesn't, the cerebral MVP and that particular day is just not part of the conversation in my mind moving forward. But again, how could it carry weight if so many examples show that they didn't carry weight? I mean, the CEOX literally let the cerebral MVP leave their team. Yeah, but that's the one off. Jaylen's done this twice. And if he did, well, he didn't want the, what is that? The folklore is that if he were the one that game, we don't, that's, that's, we living in reality or we're living in, I'm just trying to tell you what people, how people see it. I'm just the voice of the people, right? What about your, what about your, my opinion, yeah. My opinion, I feel like this is a proof year for Jaylen. No question about it, but I also understand because I listen to what people say, why they don't understand why he's getting all this. But it's pretty clear. He played like crap last year. You saw those four verse. I'm not really, you know, four verse. Like is this really surprising? You know, it's funny. Like when I was doomscrolling, people talked about the four verse. And they were, it might be the worst play call

5:07in a big spot in a decade in the league. And, and people are hellbent on saying that was Kevin Toulot. Well, we, we found out it was a, it was a really bad play. We found out it was Jaylen's. All right, well, I'm just trying to tell you what I, we know the answer. I'm, I'm just trying to tell you what I see. I don't care. That's what I, I'm just going to take what I, what you see is that we get, can we just, can we operate in reality for a second then instead of? No, listen, you, we can't do what we do and talk about. Hold on, we don't operate reality. That, that's fine for the majority of the four hours, but like for just five seconds, can we drop the act and talk about what's happening here? What's happening? What's happening? You know what's happening, right? They order back. Jaylen, it hurts, it's on notice this year, okay? It's a make or break year, it's a prove it year. Nobody gives a crap about the Super Bowl MVP. How he doesn't, the Eagles don't. It's, it, this is the year. He doesn't even have a break. He doesn't even have a break. It's definitely make or break year. Okay. Then the MVP means nothing. MVP means everything. Everything means everything. Okay, I, I, I, I, I, I, I mean, you can't differentiate the two from,

If they gave the award to Josh Sweat, does your opinion of Jaylen change today? But they didn't. If they did. If it wasn't fifth. You just said, hey, hold on, yeah, there's another time time time. I told you my uncle. You just said, Jaylen, hold on, time out. You don't, you just said Jaylen almost won a second Super Bowl MVP. It's, you're, it's the same thing. It's a hypothetical. Jaylen, good deal. If, if Josh Sweat was named the Super Bowl MVP, Jaylen's career is not an ounce different. Not an ounce different. Then the outcry would have been he should have won it. I don't care about the outcry. I don't care about the reality. I didn't what you're saying, but the reality is, since we back in, we back in reality now, I'm trying. I'm trying. Which one we're doing? I don't know. Cause I got, because in reality, he won the MVP. Well, so then, all right. But you know what, then with the conversation today, with the conversation today, be, well, he showed up on circle MVP. Because that means even less. No, that, that would have still, that dog still probably would have won it. No, it won't.

7:09On top of that, they would have talked about the seven offensive coordinators that he had to fight up heel with and the fact that he hasn't had to lose a season since he's been the quarterback of it. He plays for the Eagles. Place for the Eagles. I'm just trying to tell you, who's the quarterback for the Eagles? Jaylen Hertz? Jaylen Hertz. Yeah. That's what it is. I know, but it's like, he plays for the Eagles. That's why they win it all the time. I know why I try to hit it. I'm just, you know, I just try to hit it. I think our fundamentally, we disagree that, I think the tide is turning on how people feel about Jaylen Hertz. I think it is turning. No, they're trying to turn, but there's, but who's trying to turn it? The Eagles. The Eagles. The Eagles are dead. Not WIP. Not Joe Giulio. The Eagles. Well, don't shoot the message. I'm just here. I'm here for the people. I'm the man of the people today. You're in outer space. I'm in outer space. I was that different from any other day. I don't know. All right. Can we hear John Middlecoff on his podcast talking about, you know, so he was doing the thing last week on this story, right? The story that is out there. And he mentioned that he's not surprised because he went to the Combine. And this was kind of the talk of the Combine

8:10in February. Now, the story just came out in April, but listen to what he said, what he picked up when he was at the Combine in Indy. But it was well established at the Combine. And I've admitted to this as well, that I felt, like, you know, your typical media guy, piling on AJ Brown during the season. And I heard some things that obviously, AJ is not the easiest guy to deal with. Welcome to Wide Receivers. But when it came to like, if you pulled that locker room, if you said, hey, guys, if we could choose one of the two guys, which one would you choose? I heard it was unanimously AJ Brown. Now, because of the contract, they're stuck with Jalen Hertz. And it's not easy to find another quarterback. But one thing is clear. The bat signal was sent out today. The bat signal. Well, that was, that was a fun line to end it with. But what struck me is the unanimous thing. Like, I understand that there's probably people in there who that agree with AJ, right? There's probably people that that may have spoke to ESPN for the story that are on the same pages, AJ.

9:12And maybe they weren't super mad at him because they, he was the one voicing all what they felt, right? Yeah. I'm not surprised by that at all. The unanimous thing did get my attention. That every, that in his view, if you pulled all the eagles, they'd all say AJ over Jalen. Then Jalen's got a huge locker room problem. Huge. Because you know what's going to, you know what is likely to happen? Everyone's going to feel like me may have chose the wrong guy. I mean, that's, if they end up trading AJ, which most people think they're going to still, then we get to the next season, those people that may say, I'd rather have AJ than Jalen are going to sit there like, you've got the rid of the wrong dude here. No, they're going to go on here and play football. They get over it. Yeah, but they might, but they're going to feel that. Well, they'll feel it initially, but when it's time to play football, man, you let that go, man. You, you really let that go. Well, until the court back struggles. Well, like, like I've been saying, Joe, I feel like that by Coach Mannion being here and them giving him full autonomy, that they're, it's going to be different this year for Jalen. I don't, I don't think that, you know, and I know you talk about calling people out.

10:13I don't know if it's necessarily going to be calling me out, but we're going to be taking behind the curtain a little bit when it comes to this offense, this upcoming season. Well, we already have that. Last week was kind of a look behind the curtain. Yeah, that story. Yeah, I think that's what we're going, because in order, like that was the first elbow that was fired. And it was fired in off season. So that's why I feel strongly that a lot of people, they're not, this story is just noise right now. It's just noise until we actually start playing games and we actually start seeing what this offense is supposed to look like and if Jalen picks it up or not. That, that's what, that's when the, the biggest difference is going to be made, because right now it's all conjecture. It's all about why they hate no Jalen, what he hasn't done anything, because an unfortunate thing is this, Joe, is that before these stories came out, you had people talking about Jalen in the negative, like, Icho, when Icho's talking about, yeah, he was at the club and he was all about himself in the corner. What does that have to do with anything? Like, he was trying to, he was trying to touch the tip of the iceberg when all this stuff came out,

11:14but what he said made no sense and shade even called him out on it. He was like, man, what are you talking about? Because I go to the club sometimes and I don't see anything anybody. So, so there has been, I guess, rumblings of Jalen being kind of anti-social, for a long time, but like I always say, I'm not the most social person when I'm out in social studies. It takes me a little while to warm up the folks. So, that's not as egregious. Yeah, I don't think that is, but I think that's how a lot of people read this. When they see these stories like this, Joe, that's how they read them. They're like, oh, man, this is just in a hit piece because you hate no Jalen. Yeah, I view it differently. I think there's a real chance that this is the beginning of the end. I mean, this is exactly what happened with Carson Wentz. The stories were out there. People denied it. They said, no way, can't be. And then in a year from then, they drafted Jalen Hartz. I mean, this is, we've seen this playbook before. I mean, we've seen this almost to a T. So, that's, that's the bottom line for me as this. What he's done, his accomplishments, his career so far, it really doesn't mean anything moving forward. Now, we gotta see how he plays this year.

It is reckless speculations. It's not bad. Absolutely. It's not bad, reckless speculations. So, you think Bryce Harper encouraged ESPN to hold the story until right before the Philly's fourth game of the season? That was the data to do this? I'm not saying, but I am saying that there may be a chance that there might have been a suitcase full of Benjamin in the back of McManus' trunk. I'm going to tell you, the mad Russian, Mishkoff, the guy is nothing, but with his hockey IQ, with his vision, he is absolutely positively, a shot producer, a playmaker, and not to mention, one Dan, Darth Blodar, with his Jedi Golditrix, just leaves us mere mortals just staring with all and our jaw dropping to the floor as he makes save after save. We all know that the NHL playoffs

Because it happens to me on a regular basis, not necessarily who Douglas, but let's go with Potem down Hughes. Potem down. Aaron. Good one. One of Aaron's better calls. At least he was on point. He's talking about what we're talking about. You know, get him. Get him off the Eagles thing, and then he's talking today. The timing was perfect. Yeah, I mean, this whole conversation we've been having for the past segment or two is basically Aaron's fault. I think we've learned that Aaron's strong suit is just not Eagles. No quarterback talk for Aaron. I mean, that's primarily what we talk about. So that limits Aaron's air time. Which maybe for some people out there is what they want. I don't know. I'm just, I think you're right. I think maybe less Aaron on the Eagles is better there. But it is mostly Aaron's fault that we got to this channel and hurts Super Bowl MVP thing. And the Hugh Douglas agrees with it. Well, I'm saying it does. It does. I can't, I can't pun his jailing for being MVP.

18:24Like punishment. Well, I know there's things that he needs to do better. And we talked about that before the season started. Because I thought that was going to be, I thought the Super Bowl was going to be the springboard for that to happen. He does need to, for the kind of talent that we have, he does need to play better. But it's just unfortunate because it feels like it's trying to diminish what he's already accomplished. Even though I get what you're saying when you talk about he needs to do more. Yeah. He definitely needs to do more. And this is going to be a telling season for Jalen. Like I've been saying throughout this whole ordeal, the writings on the wall, the fact that you had so many different coordinators didn't want this job. You know, no matter how folks want to try to spin it, that's part of the reason why this story was written. Because when you talk about people that like accomplished offensive coordinate. Yeah. No, I'm good. Like they're like, no, I'm good. That's telling, but nobody wants to see that. That's the reality of this. And when you talk about it, like there's two groups of people.

19:24The people that are in and know, and the people that just think folks are hating. I think there's a third group of people. I think there's a lot of fans out there who are not hating and they don't know everything, but they just have eyes and they watch. They just look at the stories and they're like, this isn't right. It's the ones that know if they're smoke, there's fire. Yeah. Exactly. Like I said, when I started talking about it, people jumped all over me like a bunch of crickets. I was like, hey, maybe it's the quarterback. Oh, I don't know what you're talking about. Well, it is. It was. Yeah. I mean, he was part of it. Well, he was the biggest part. He was part of it. He was part of it. So now we got a new coordinator. In manual. And we have a new office. And it's going to be some, I think it's going to be some calling folks out this year. If Jaylen doesn't play well, I think he won't get called. Oh, well, hold on. He was. Sure. Oh, that's not the point. You see, not you just being. Well, that's. It's not being. No, no, I'm telling you how the argument is going to go. And I was right. Because I got my finger on the pulses. But you also said the circle MVP matters. It does matter. It does. It does matter.

20:24It doesn't matter to you, but it matters. It matters when you talk about it. It matters. It matters. To the people that played in NFL and Jaylen's resume. People played in the NFL. La Vante, David just said they didn't even game plan for it. That's still matters. The MVP still matters, though, Joe. How? You can't because Jaylen wanted. Jaylen wanted. And it's a part of it. It's lack of. And he did a hell of a job. Right. He got paid for it. I understand. I'm moving forward. You know what? Can he be accurate? Can he be accurate? Can he run? Let me tell you what. Let me tell you what. That's what matters. You know, because when you talk about Jaylen, and we try to... I'm not saying that you do this, but when you talk about him, it sounds like you're trying to break him down or tearing down from what he's already accomplished. That's why it matters, because he's accomplished that already. Regardless of what you think about his skillset, he's done something that was the name, the quarterback. Josh Allen hasn't done? Yeah, we have no playbooks here. Lamar Jackson hasn't done. Never played in the bowl. Right. He's never played in the bowl. What's his name?

21:24He's never played in the bowl before. That's in Cincinnati. Burrow. Burrow. None of those class have done that. But those are his contemporaries. That's why it matters. So Joe Flacco did it, and those guys haven't done it. Joe Flacco is not his contemporary. Jaylen has thrived. Do you know what makes Jaylen so special in this situation? And why people arrive for Jaylen the way they do? It's because he thrived in hurricane-like conditions his whole career. But I guess for me, and this is the simplest way I'll put it, two games don't make a career, a career makes a career. And his career right now, Jaylen right now. Trending down. But he's closer to going to the Hall of Fame than Josh Allen. Not a shot. Not a shot. Yes, he is. I completely disagree with what you disagree with. And who else? Who else you want to talk about? Josh Allen? Lamar Jackson. Lamar is way closer to the whole thing. Okay, Jaylen goes to another Super Bowl. But that's a different conversation. But that's not a fair way to jump on it. But that's what I'm talking about. Joe, he's trending in that direction. Jaylen goes to one more Super Bowl. He's trending in that direction.

22:25As we sit here today. Who's trending more towards a Super Bowl right now with the way it plays? No, I'll just ask today. Not if you can't just add another Super Bowl. If he, today they both retired. Who's the Hall of Famer? Lamar or Jaylen? Lamar goes with, maybe neither go. But if one's going to go, it's Lamar. I think, I don't, I think it's Jaylen before Lamar. He went to League MVP. And he's choked in the playoffs. That's not how the Hall of Fame works. But that's his legacy. That is Lamar's legacy. I don't think it's close. Okay. I mean, you're close. Okay. I mean, we can just see it differently. No, we definitely see it differently. No, we definitely see it differently. We definitely see it differently. And he's a regular season performer. The other one has performed on the biggest stages. The, the couple of times he's been there. 215-592-95. Are you taking all this? The hurt stuff. I just, when we talk about the past, the present, the future. The MVP, the Super Bowl, just, it's not even on my mind. Like, he's got to play better football. He's obviously, the Eagles need him to play better football. That's just an accolade that really isn't to do for me for the future. Where do you come down on that?
