Ford Recalls 4.4M Trucks Over Software Glitch

The issue messes with trailer lights, signals, and brakes, even without a trailer hooked up after the truck wakes from sleep mode. Earlier this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration kicked off a bigger probe into F-150 trucks after drivers reported. Surprise gear shifts, Ford knew about two possible related injuries, and one crashed from that. Dealers will push a free power train software update to fix it. No crashes, injuries, or fires tied to the trailer problem so far, per-forward. But it breaks federal safety rules by cutting visibility and trailer control, ramping up crash risks on the road. The main fix rolls out over the air starting in May, or owners can hit a dealer any time for the update at no charge.
