0:00morning, glory, host Maddie John's joined us to chat all things rugby league. Uh, man of leisure, Matthew John's MJ, welcome. Basie, GBT, how are you? Let's see. Well, thanks. How are you? What's, uh, raw dogging? Give us the latest. Well, oh, mate, you got to give it a crack. It's a good raw dogging. Well, tell us, tell us what happened and give the people who may not know what raw dogging actually is. Well, can I just interrupt here? Cause I grew up raw dogging meant you didn't wear a Keith Bonnie. And now it seems to have evolved into a plane sort of thing. Uh, yeah. When did this come about, Matthew? Yeah, I don't know. I haven't, I, I do know you mean about Jimmy's, but I, um, but, uh, I, I, I came out about a couple of years ago. I, I read one of these ridiculous articles once where someone wrote an article saying that, uh, typical, uh, malt, uh, what I say, toxic masculinity, uh, man now going on, uh, long haul flights and doing a thing called raw dogging, where they don't watch TV, they don't engage a conversation. They just stare right ahead. Now what is toxic about masculinity about that?

1:01I don't know, but anyway, that's the world we're living in. But, uh, that's what it is. So people would take it upon themselves, go on a long haul flights and just sitting there, nothing, no entertainment. Don't look at screen, just looking straight ahead. Um, I don't know, don't think toilet breaks, um, everything. So anyway, Koop did one. He, he, he came back from Thunderburg last week and was bragging to me. He'd, he'd draw a dog for an hour and a half and spoke about how hard it is. I talk from the generation fledged that come before us, you know, where people like your grandparents, you know, when the wireless was just invited, that you would walk out onto the front porch, you would look out into the, and it would use your imagination for an attainment. So my thing to him, it's not that hard. It's just, it's a lost art. And he said, well, I bet you you can't do it. And I said, mate, I could do it from here to Thailand. So they did through a challenge to me that I couldn't do it for six and a half hours in the backyard. And I just put the bucket in front of me. Yeah. Uh, urinated when I had to just pop the old father at the side of the shorts. Neighbors didn't wear any wiser and made knocked over the six and a half hours.

2:04Um, and what, where did you, because sometimes it's, I don't know if you remember when you get in the end, and, and in an MRI, yeah. And the mind just wanders, your mind wanders. You're in there for, and you, and that's only an hour. Yes, and where did your mind go? Cause I reckon you'd have some crazy thoughts going on in that, uh, lemon. It's pretty awesome. I've had some, I've had some, as you know, fleets, I've had some weird experiences over the years. I once took a couple of really strong sleeping tablets on a, on a, on a flight. Fletcher's on a woke up and I'd written a rap song. You know, actually two. And, uh, you should, but he kept, he kept, when he had a few drinks, because we knew about it, because when he was so weak, so they wrote this rap song. I said, give us a few bars. Anyway, no, no, wait. Anyway, you had a few beers. And I remember it was, uh, ministers in dresses. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it had, it had lyrics like tomato pan and things like that. Inspired by tomato, and, uh, and, uh, well, what I did, I'd set up the backyard and base in, in the midst of raw dogging and actually wrote a script for usual suspects

3:09to, um, oh, of course, um, causes, so say, yes, of course he was never captured. Cause of so say, so what, what, I mean, where is he? Where's he gone? What's he doing? Is he, does he make a glorious return? The only problem is I'm thinking with Kaiser Soze, should it be Kaiser Soze's brother or son, given the fact that Kaiser Soze was, um, if you wish he was, yeah, it will blow your plane and get dry. Shout out to you, Bing. Uh, anyway, so Maddie, um, huge weekend. Ah, yeah. Um, at Brookvale, uh, raw dogging. So I'm going to move on. Maddie, um, what about this? So you had Karen foreign on the podcast a few weeks ago. Yeah. And he sort of said, oh, I don't really have any interest in being a head coach, but rugby leagues strange going. It is. He said, I don't know, in no real rush. And I remember Cooper saying, well, a lot of pressure,

4:10and he said, oh, you're reconciled. And yeah, then eight days later, he's appointed. As far as interim coaches concerned, they couldn't have made a better decision. There's one thing, like you hear rumours swirl around in rugby league all the time, and we generally get reads on coaches and how they operate. If there's anything, one thing I've learned about Anthony Seabold is a very good, he's very good educator on football, tactically, but he does have the propensity to overcoach a little bit. That's one of the things you hear quite a bit. There's not a better bloke. He is the perfect guy to replace. That makes sense. To go in as an interim coach, given the fact that in the last three years, landing itself to some overcoaching means you're probably educated, the player is very well. They just need a bit of a change of regime, a different voice. Cameron can go in there and basically undercoach a little bit, not coach the pants on them, just work out some simple principles and just go from there.

5:11You cut the meetings, you'd have five, 10 minute meetings, you wouldn't have these long boring meetings. It's basically a lot of it. Just make the players happy, some camaraderie and everything. It carries your long ways, we always say. So I think all things considered for Cameron is the right man for the job, but I reckon if you're coming in, he's replacing the right bloke as well. What about personnel, Matty, would you make any changes to the team this week or any selections, obviously, you know, for us, we'll have a, I guess, a host of things onto the top of his list. Team ones, what do you think? Do you know what, Chad, I probably, as far as personnel's concerned, I, I, you give a crack of what you got at the moment. Yep. There's a thought, I mean, I look at, tactically with Colour, who's their greatest threat at the moment, you know, nailing him down on one side of the field. I think you could do a little bit of Stephen Crite and stuff and, you know, switch him around, swap sides and whatnot, even give him a stint at fullback at one point. But I think it's just the style of football

6:11they want to play. I look at, I look at Manley, right? And what was, what was symbolic of how Manley played is how they, how they started the game last week. Like the roosters compressed up a step too much and they just talk them on the outside, they go the distance and they score. That for me is how Manley played in the contest. For whatever reason, they just fall back into this negative style of football. Sometimes you just got it, you just got to go with what works for you and accept errors, just be able to defend the errors. And, you know, at times, you understand it's not going to be your day, you're going to cut your losses, but you've got to play the way the suture side best. And I think for Manley, it's opening up the shoulders and just playing a bit of football. Don't get, they're not, they're not well equipped. I don't think of the moment. I haven't got the forward depth to engage in an 80 minute arm wrestle. Yeah, they've got to play a little bit of sold on the sold line. The greatest benefit out of this might be Luke Brooks. I mean, he's playing in that famous number six jersey. He's got no better coach or teacher in Kieran Foreign.

7:15Speaking about halves, this was Jamal Foggedy on the sacking of, now don't, don't forget, he was a major influence in getting him to Manley. You know, the whole preseason since I came here with, we've brought in everything that that seed was about. It's only three games right. We still have 21 games to go to turning our season around and I thought, you know, to be sacked after three is pretty harsh. Well, he's the one that gave me the contract to continue in the NRL with my age. So I've got to be grateful for that. And obviously he's not here anymore. So I've got to give a bit of sympathy there to see as well, because it's pretty undeserving, I think. Yeah, but I just knew he's just seen Jamal Foggedy as he is no longer there at media. That was pretty bullsy. It's a tough one because you know, immediately when the club makes the decision like you either put some support behind the coaches just going out there. We know where you stand by the club. And obviously Foggedy, as you mentioned, like Seabull was the one that signed him. Yeah. But they still have 21 games left. I think that was a good point from Foggedy, although they've had a tough start to the season. What, what do you think this roster can get to?

8:19Maddie, like is it his finals well out of their reach now? Does it almost like we've right the season off before we name a new coach, and then we move on? Chad, this particular play group at the moment, I don't know what they're capable of, because they've been under what I think they've been under performing over the last couple of years. And so it's hard to get a read on what they can do. On the Foggedy scene we're just talking about there. It just shows you strength of the character. That says a lot because one thing about rugby league, it's long dives and short memories. And the fact that he knows that Seab's got him there, he was a supporter, hasn't forgotten that. And the other thing about rugby league is to let supporters know. One of the things you hear about coaches all the time, and coaches, sometimes naively, they believe in this, is that you hear the reports, oh, mate, when the players hear that this coach is going to be sacked, they're going to be filthy. There's going to be people left, right, and center, asking for releases. A good friend of mine who is an assistant

9:19who's quite an iconic coach once. The coach had been at this club for a long time. Anyway, the coach one day, the coach was under pressure, and as they're both walking in opposite directions, the coach has got this massive smile on his face. And he says to my mate, the assistant coach, he says you wouldn't believe what's happened to me. I've just been called into the directors' office. I've been sacked. And he said, well, mate, you look like a pretty happy bloke who's just been sacked. And he said, well, he said, I just know the fact that how much of these players love me, and they're all going to ask for release. And my mate said to him, you are kidding. When it comes to players, the king is dead, long live the king. That's how they work. And so, yeah, we've been in situations before, where you've had a coach, he's been sacked. Honestly, you walk up to the coach, you shake his hand, you're sorry he's gone. But mate, the next bloke who comes through the door, you just celebrate him and you get on with it. So for Folkety to say what he did publicly, but given the fact the people who are sitting right next to, I think it's a really good sign,
