He's convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery for shooting a Fort Pierce police officer to death back in 1991 using the officer's own gun during a traffic stop. The incident started when officer Danny Parrish pulled Kierce over for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. A struggle broke out as Parrish tried to handcuff him and Kierce grabbed the weapon firing multiple shots that killed the officer despite some, hitting his body armor. A nearby taxi driver called for help using Parrish's radio. Kierce's legal team fought the death sentence, claiming he didn't get a fair penalty hearing and that his intellectual disability makes execution. Unconstitutional.
