Fleming Centre: New Hub Fights Antimicrobial Resistance

0:00On April 25th, Westminster City Council just greenlit a six-story research hub called the Fleming Center and Paddington Basin, aimed at tackling antimicrobial resistance that silent killer were bacteria outsmart antibiotics and claimed over a million lives yearly. Set to open in 2028, it's named after Sir Alexander Fleming, who cracked Penicillin back in 1928. This spot honors history, rising near where Fleming made his breakthrough, with public exhibits, a café, and restrooms on the ground and first floors. Plus labs, trials, and workshops of top. The ground level repurposes old 19th century warehouses, called the Bays. Leaders are fired up. Fleming initiative COO Amit Mouji called it key to curbing this global health nightmare, while executive chair Lord Darzy hailed it as a defining stand. Against unwinding a century of medical winds, it'll spark over 50 full-time jobs, training paths, and even 250,000 pounds in public art.
