Flames Trade Vets, Embrace Youth Movement

0:00From Calgary Flames coverage, this is your March 7th update. The Calgary Flames made some big moves leading up to the National Hockey League trade deadline on Friday. They traded veteran defensemen Rasmus Anderson to Vegas back in January for four assets. Then on Wednesday, they sent defensemen Mackenzie Wigar to Utah for five assets. And on Friday, Center Nazum Kadri went to Colorado for four more assets. These deals show the Flanes are all in on rebuilding with younger players after missing the playoffs for three straight seasons, with a fourth looking. Likely, General Manager Craig Conroy has pushed hard for this youth movement to shake things up. Not every veteran left town, though. Players like Blake Coleman and Zach Wyclow, who were in trade talks, stayed put along with depth guys, Ryan Lomburg, Braden Pachal, and Joel. Hamley. Conroy said the offers weren't strong enough, and these players want to stick around and help lead. Keeping some experience makes sense on a suddenly much younger roster.
