Welcome back, Chuck. He's come to you live on 106 seven. The fan been talking NFL draft throughout the show. The commanders, their first round pick take linebacker, sunny styles with the number seven pick. Some people believe he dropped there because in a lot of the mock drafts, he was going to the Giants at number five, some to the Titans at number four. So yeah, for him to slip to seven, I think that the front office, the brass, the ownership, they were all genuinely shocked that sunny styles was available to pick at seven without having to move up the draft board. Right. And they were, they were thrilled to be able to pick him. Oh, I'm sure. I mean, you could tell like Adam Peter seemed borderline giddy when he was talking to him on the phone. Yeah, he's their guy. Like he was stunned that that he had the opportunity to select sunny styles. And styles just seems like a good dude. I mean, he said he's humble. Like, you know, he just seems like a good guy. I'm sure he's extremely coachable, well-spoken kid, seems, you know, kind of profession already professional. Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm sure you're
not from his dad. I'm sure it was his dad that long time pro and his younger brother is going to be a stud. Yeah, he'll be drafted. Seems like a lot of the experts loved the pick, even if EB didn't love it himself. Emmanuel Acho is a guy who's been on Fox Sports. Now he's got a podcast called Speak Easy. I think that's what it's called. Um, he played linebacker in the league. Here's what Emmanuel Acho said about this pick. It's not a more perfect fit to a more perfect team than sunny styles to the Washington commanders. Who is the Washington commanders head coach and defensive mind? Dan Quinn? Who did Dan Quinn help turn into a hall of fame or Bobby Wagner? Who is no longer on the Washington commanders roster? Bobby Wagner? Where is there a gate of vacancy for the Washington commanders at linebacker and what the hell can sunny styles do? played linebacker with elite range, elite tenacity, elite athleticism. See, if you play in a Dan Quinn defense, you need a linebacker that can do one of two things and sunny styles can actually do
them both. He needs to be able to come downhill and attack aggressively. But also, Dan Quinn likes to sit in the cover three defense. Weakness of a cover three defense is when a team comes out and they run four verticals. How can you stop four verticals versus cover three? Well, you need your weak side linebacker, who has a hook curl that is two yards outside the hash and 12 yards deep. You need that linebacker to be able to look up a receiver that is going vertical. But they come out in a three by one formation. That was Bobby Wagner for so long. I need to be able to see TJ Hussman Zada. And I need to have the speed to run with him. Sonny styles has that speed. Sonny style has that size. Sonny styles has that athleticism. There is not a more quality fit for a team in the first round than sunny styles going to Dan Quinn and the Washington commanders. I absolutely love, love, love, love that. And I know EBMIT has made a lot a big point out of he's uncomfortable with sunny styles size at six five. It's not typical for a middle line backer. But I think that's a plus. Yeah. Because you can see you can you can put them on the edge. You can play him at
linebacker. You could drop him back into your secondary because he has experience playing safety. Like I think the size is a plus not a detriment. I don't think so either. I think if you have size and speed and athleticism, it's tougher for the corner back to throw against it. It's tougher for a running back to get around you or buy you. What Acha was talking to talking about too is his range. Yeah. And I'm sure you guys have all seen that clip. It was again, I can't remember what team it was. But where he just goes completely side to side to tackle somebody. And he might be my amm. It might be my amm. Yeah, I can't remember. I saw it though. Yes. So that athleticism is off the charts. That's what the commanders did. But we wanted to kind of compare how they did with one pick against the other teams in the division. So the Dallas Cowboys were the team that were able to get Caleb Downs. Yeah. So I'm great at safety. I'm upset with what the Cowboys did because you can generally count on the Cowboys to box something on draft day. But I feel like
they did really well because they swap spots with Miami just moved up one spot to secure Caleb Downs. So they didn't have to part with that much draft capital to do that. And then later they move out of their 20 spot and they let Philly go into that spot. They drop down and they get a pretty good pass rusher in Malachi Lawrence out of is it UCF? Yeah, out of UCF, a guy who was kind of looked at as like a second round guy, but is zoomed up draft boards and Dallas obviously loved him. So they're 20 sacks in his career. Last year, he had seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss. So Dallas is shrewd moving around the draft board and they add two really, really good defensive pieces to upgrade. And we saw how bad that that Dallas defense was. Oh, they need one bad as Washington's, but it was pretty bad last year. So they focused on defense in the first round. That's not great if you're a commander's fan because now their defense is going to get better. And they focused on defense and free agency. They went out and signed a couple guys who are three guys and free agency on the defensive side. They
weren't very active offensively. Right. Sean Gary shows up from Greenback. Sean Gary. Correct. So the company we were talking about would Washington trade with the division for if they traded out of the seven. And you just mentioned it. I mean, Dallas traded out with Philly. Right. And Philly, Philly goes out and gets rivals doing business with each other. Yeah, Philly gets the receiver with McIleman who won the Blitnikoff award. Yeah, yeah, he had four games with 150 yards or more. Yeah. And by the way, if you if you think that the Eagles aren't going to trade AJ Brown at some point, you're not keeping up with what they've been doing of late. They pull off the trade to go up and get lemon three spots there. They sign Hollywood Brown. They sign Elijah Moore. They trade for with Octavian Wicks from Greenback. Like they're getting themselves ready to deal AJ Brown away for some sort of draft hall. I've actually forgotten what happened to Johan Dotson. Johan Dotson. Is he free? I think he's appending free. I think he is. The commander's gonna bring him back. I mean, they could they
could get back in the John Dotson business. Let me see if Dotson's a freebie. I think he is a free agent. His tenure in Philadelphia, died. He's currently a free agent. No, he's signing with Atlanta. That's right. That happened last year through. I think that just happened. Okay. So Dotson's off the board for Adam Peterson company. So we talked about the cowboys talked about the Eagles and the Giants. They get Reese who for a lot of people slid down the draft board at number five. So they get another edge guy. They were probably better for a lot of edge guys. Right. They got Timidow. Like the war the war room for the Giants. They could not believe that R. Vell Reese. Yeah. Just fell to them at number five. Yeah. Because he was mocked to go to the jets by several spots at number two at worst to be the third pick. And he makes it all the way to five. Yep. I mean, they couldn't they couldn't have imagined. I mean, I just think about the guys that they've got to rush the pastor. They won't they signed or they have Brian Burns who
this the they acquired from Carolina a couple years ago, but they've got Carter. They got Timidow. And then they go out and say, we're getting another guy just like that. Right. Who can who can play? He's kind of versatile. You can play linebacker can play edge. Yeah. Just an athlete 20 years old. So I think it's a great bit. Now that the their second pick, which was number 10, they take the tackle from Miami. The interesting thing there is a lot of people thought they would go wide receiver. Well, it seems like they had their heart set on Jordan Tyson and the Saints dashed that by taking him at eight. Yeah. So I'm I'm guessing if Tyson had made it to 10, that would have been the pick. But he wasn't available. So you have to pivot. You can't just cry over the fact that a team sniped you two picks before. So they pivoted and got who many thought was the best offensive lineman available in Francis Malanoa. Malanoa. And you got a young smaller quarterback. You want to protect them as best you can. And maybe they just think neighbors will be fine. And they went out and they got to Donnell Mooney and for agency. They've got Slayton. If
neighbors is 100%. I think they're fine. I received it. They went out and got likely. So I think that they'll be fine. That team's going to make a jump. Plus here. I think so too. They also pick very high in the second round. They have a 37th pick. So five picks in tonight when the draft starts. Now they didn't have a chance. Some people also were thinking that they might make a run at Jeremiah Love. Right. But of course, he was picked by the Cardinals at number three. Nothing you can do if the cards take him off the board. Then you just have to follow your board in your war room and go with go with your conscience. So I think overall, if you just look at the division in my opinion, all right. Washington is better just based on who they've signed and who they drafted. And Jade NASA stay healthy. But those other teams are better too. So it's going to be a tough action. I think the NFC fillies necessarily better. Well, they're, but they're good. You know, they're good. Yeah. Are they better? Is is like lemon is not going to be better than AJ Brown. No, but maybe just getting rid of AJ Brown is is a good move for them. If you elevate Devote Smith to your normal. AJ Brown could have been a big
problem, a bigger problem than we kind of knew about in the locker room. Could be addition by subtraction could be just getting him away from the mix. Maybe he's just toxic. It's filtering through the whole team. I don't have a problem with them dealing him away. And they've made contingency plans to be ready for when that happens. Yeah, I mean, the guys they went out and signed receivers too. Right. So I just think it's going to be a really tough division. Again, tougher than last year. Because giants weren't good. Cowboys. I wish we were coming in here just goofing on what the other teams did in the draft. It's hard to really critique them at this at this point. Yeah, it hasn't even been 24 hours. You need to see how they actually play and develop. But it seemed to have made all good selections and moves around the way when you agree, JP, the division got better. I would agree that the giants will be significantly better. The cowboys on paper should be better defensively. The Eagles, I'm not so sure. Yeah, yes, they
they added all these receivers that you just mentioned. They draft lemon. They added all these other guys to prepare to to deal. AJ Brown. I've read reports that's going to happen like after June 1st. Well, I think he's going to end up in New England. But they just still that you know, their defense is still right. AJ Brown's when he's top of his game is one of the best receivers in the NFL. Okay, just didn't fit anymore for them. Didn't fit. Warren is welcome. But they still got Devonte Smith, the true number one. Well, he's going to have to be. I don't know if he is, but he's going to get or maybe McCoy. Maybe McCoy is there's going to get that treatment. He's going to get every opportunity to be the number one there. Yeah. But you know, I think the Eagles are coming back to the pack. And we saw that a little bit last year. I'm just saying, I'm not saying that the clear cut favor to win the division. I'm just saying they're still very good because their defense is legit. And they still have pieces on offense. So you know, they're going to be a tough out. I mean, they're not going to be like the giants from last year. But overall, top bottom, the division is better. Yeah. I agree. Those teams
all improved themselves last night. Yep. And if James Day is healthy, they're obviously better. Right.
