First Hawk-Eye Overturn in MLB

For the first time in 2026, an Umpire's ball call got overturned by the Hawkeye camera system during a game. The Atlanta Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 at Cool Today Park. It happened with two outs in the 9th inning. Braves pitcher Luis Vargas. Through what looked like a ball on a two strike count to Blue Jays batter, Josh Rivera. The catcher immediately challenged the call by tapping his helmet. Fans saw the replay graphic confirm it was strike three right at the top of the zone. That ended the Blue Jays bases, loaded rally and sealed the win for Atlanta. No one saw it coming quite like this so early in the year. This automated ball strike challenge system got the green light from MLB's competition committee back in September 2025. It's been tested in the minor league since 2022 and in spring training games last year.
