Fire Breaks Out in Eccles Building

They cordoned off the area at the junction with Mather Avenue to keep things safe while they worked. Using a hose reel, two sets of breathing apparatus, and some specialist gear, the firefighters got the flames under control pretty quick. No one got hurt, but it disrupted the neighborhood for a bit as folks washed from a distance. That derelict spot had been empty for a while, turning heads in the community when it lit up like that. Investigators are still digging into what sparked the fire, no word yet on the cause. Crews stuck around for about one hour and ten minutes to make sure everything was damped down and secure.
