00Really like the official dear partner of your Philadelphia Phyllis is proud to serve as presenting sponsor of WIP's high hopes But whether you're listening to the game catching up on the latest high hopes pot or at the ballpark remember it He's like Miller time Phyllis fans celebrate responsibly Welcome on in it is the final out As always sponsored by the Philadelphia Parking Authority Check for it's hanging out with you on this Tuesday night had to change up the lost song because it is now Seven straight seven straight losses first time since 2019 gave capillaries been a long long time since we've gone through this now This team much different. Well that team was you know they had you know, it's first year of Harper and Sagoora and Couchin and and those guys so they still had some talent It wasn't you know the worst. I don't think it was this payroll
00But nevertheless it all sucks. I do think I can count on one hand I was trying to piece through it on my head He had a walk off against the Giants in 23 He hit a home run off of Jose Verweez in 23 Just trying to really count the the times that Tray has come through in a big spot And I think I can count on one hand. I think I can count on one hand just a I mean A brutal contract anyway, the game wrap up is sponsored by Roto Router when plumbing problems hit wrap them up quick and call Roto Router They're a team tackles clocks and leaks so you can say the game Roto Router your MVP for plumbing Solutions 888729 9494 is how you get in as we kind of are just going through another one of these Therapy session Talk your way through it get it off your chest. I mean we're all kind of just piecemealing this thing together
04I am coming on. It's usually just just raw emotion frustration Apathy hasn't totally set set in yet because I do why I do sit down every night and I do expect like one of these nights They're gonna figure it out right one of these nights. It's it's gonna click either even though in my head in my head I think I've come to the conclusion. They're not good enough even if they win a ballgame They they just are and I feel like I've said they're so deficient A million times in the lot it really seems to start the year But they're just so deficient offensively. It's hard for them to it's hard for me to believe that like any kind of Run is coming. I mean Harper and Schwarber both have OPS is over 900 now That and it feels like if they don't do anything There's a 0% chance. They're gonna score maybe Next time Bryce is asked about something you can he'd wonder if the GM and the present of baseball are operations
06If he's elite, maybe that's where this this whole thing is trending It'd be a nice little cherry on top for what has been a I mean about is bad of a start of the season as you can ask for Coming off of of last year how it ended the offseason running it back and everything else 8-8 7 2 9 9 4 9 4 is how you get in The biggest take was the game brought to by Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm April twenty second or April 21st April 21st and we are sitting here. They ate in 15 now Lost lost seven straight can't even make fun of them that's who lost their twelfth straight To the twins earlier, so it's it's it's it's excursiating. It's excursiating my biggest takeaway tonight is is This is on the pitching staff and the pitching staff has been largely loved the hook because I think we believe in these guys I think that we believe in Caleb and I believe in Caleb Gotham and I believe that he will get these guys on the right track
11But tonight was unacceptable 10 walks by this starting or by this pitching staff another starter can't give them six innings I kind of went back and looked at it real quick Sanchez is the only one that has given them six innings since that painter I'll give him like a break here because painter gave him five and pop gave him seven or gave him two so that was seven Besides that it's been two Sanchez starts that has gone that they've had a starter pitch Or make it six innings That's crazy for for where the starting staff should be That's unacceptable. So Lazardo again First two innings looks fine Command was fine, and then the command just falls off a cliff the change up is up a little bit or he or he yanks it and then it misses It's not super effective pitch right now like He just makes so many uncompetitive pitches. I mean there was a time in the middle of the game where
18He was missing gloves side over and over and over again. They weren't like huge misses But it was different from having command and being able to throw strikes the command is Being able to control a strike zone and he was much much much better at it last year It's sure he just hasn't been this year has been much more erratic much more all over the place Can't get into a rhythm fighting himself And I wonder if maybe some of the the adjustments he made to his change up in the offseason and I'm hurting his other pitches. I don't know but When he is when he is doing what he did tonight and pitching his way into trouble because it's not being super efficient I mean I've said that Trace wing and first pitch is the most miserable experience in in Philly sports right now Nola when he's nibbling also an excursiating experience The Philly's offense in general an excursiating experience wouldn't recommend it, but
19When Hazus Zardo is pitching like that and he's walking the ballpark and he's he's falling behind every hitter and he's missing spots Oh, it's a few are yet. I mean on top of everything else that we're dealing with right now is Philly's fans watching this pitching staff Consistently not get the job done night in night out is is a is a decent little cherry on top for what has been a An excruciating start the year but once again another starter can't give them six innings What was Kirkering doing in the first the bad against Nancy Swanson? You have They thought I guess that Matt Shaw was gonna bat there instead of Bell Saros where They've been doing that with the DH spot or whatever like they've they've they've done that Ever it's both series they've they've taken guys in and out of line us They've been super super aggressive early in games going for some some matchup advantages and
24You pitch around dance you Swanson who's hitting like one eighty eight because you think you're facing Matt Shaw And you end up with Bell Saros and you and you welcome I What are you being so cute for what are you trying to be your it's dance sponsor? It's like you're facing a four hole hitter. You have face in a top of the line of guy. He's betting ninth for you So or betting eighth tonight So that that pissed me off and that was another walk Banks can't do a job He's not he hasn't been as good as he was last year there was Because of course there had to be another two-run single That just was blooped over Tray Turner's head or it was either it's either it's either Trayward Mundo Every single time back breaking stupid little bleeder that falls in again Banks didn't do his job, but at some point these nonsense hits have to stop and then Mesa just gets blasted
30Alvarado has to leave in the middle of an outing with with back spasms So will monitor that one I think his last pitch was at like 94 so and it wasn't going very well before that The whole pitching staff is is Becoming more and more of a concern. Oh my goodness 10 walks tonight 10 walks and I guess credit To the offense for for having some moments, but at once again It's really dishwasher and Harper Shorber ties it up and then Harp goes yard unfortunately to make it six three but still it was nice to make it a little bit closer and if the $300 million shortstop could could help extend a ballgame way that'd be great The leadoff hitter's hitting 234 by the way 234 then you watch Nico Horner who's hitting 324 You look around baseball and you have these like Difference makers at the top of the lineup and we got we got slapping McGee up there with the little bat twirl and the
33No plan when he goes up there and swinging it at a first pitch It's a 59 footer and soft contact after soft contact but they're soft contact. I mean it just Reeks it just reeks 888 729 94 94 let's lead it off with my guy Dave and Marilyn Dave What's up now? Just baffled and I'm sick of trade turner hitting lead off like he is Like he's hurting. I mean you start every game with you start every game and like he comes up in big spots all the time When the when the lineups turn it over and he just There's nothing there's nothing in the bat right now and I know that You know who else are you gonna put there right but like either Shorber or Harper needs to hit lead offs and You get a more of that and You know at least you you have a chance to start the first inning with with a punch because he is giving you nothing And well, well, Dave. It's not even the first inning I mean how many times he come up in the last nine games with a spot late in a game where you need them and
37I mean they every every rally they have is with two outs I mean it would it would it would kill them literally to To have runners on first and third with one or one out or less Everything's with two outs, but it feels like there's been so many spots late in games eighth and ninth inning words Just try it there and it's like oh my gosh. Can we put Shorber or Harper there Harper will never do it Can we put Shorber there so at least there's some kind of some some kind of thump Yeah, and then you know then at what point do we start talking about playing rayas more in less field in Martian right field and and Sitting Garcia because that he's not doing a job and you know At least rayas is putting the bat on the ball the barrel on the ball and hitting the ball hard every time I mean it it's just it's still frustrating watching this team play offense and then tonight You know you couple that with the pitching which has been I think it's it's pretty bad pretty bad the entire season And it's just it's Baffling how bad they are and I like what's
38But Rob Thompson you know you say what's he gonna do will make a change to the lineup make something like drastic like put Shorber back in the lead-off hole and and seeing if that gets gets a team going that's obviously It's work before you got to try something new You do Dave and I and I appreciate the phone call as always I There's been there's been too many times late in game to share where It's it's try up there in a big spot and He's hasn't come through and when you can just go We the speed thing is nice when he's stealing bases. He's not stealing bases. So what's the point? What's the point? There's no point? Badam third go go go Shorber Harper Turner and if Harper's won a bat second I don't care like put him there put him there make him pal. I don't care. It's it's so dumb It's so dumb that he doesn't bat second Everything about this team is dumb right now everything about him is dumb and none of them hit the ball hard
43Besides well, I want to talk about Felix Raes because that is exciting But it's just nothing. It's just nothing Mike's in Westchester. What's happened? I'm like Brits we've we've sat through a lot of brutal Brutal seasons the Catholic years the COVID year watching Brandon work and try to close games This is this is the least enjoyable 23 games of baseball I can remember the Phillies have played in my entire life. It is It is stunning how how just Dead it all is and it almost be easier. I feel like if they Were making a fundamental mistakes or it looked like they weren't trying But I don't even think it's an effort thing. I just think they might not be good enough. They might just not be good enough Yeah, yeah, and that's what I think I think they're trying. I don't think it's a lack of effort I think they just it's like I don't know it's almost like watching the basketball game when you can see them like giving a lot of effort But the other team just has like a million threes waiting to rain down on them. I don't know. It's like
44I think they're putting forth effort I just don't think they're good enough. I just don't think they're good enough And that's that's an that's an unbelievably annoying spot to be sitting in with like a top five payroll and all the sport on April 21st but It's just there's waves of these other teams and maybe if they go through a stretch where they play some Some bad teams they can they can find it for a little bit My goodness against good teams they look I cannot believe how far behind they look behind the teams like the cubs and braves where we went into the season Not thinking that to be the case That's that's been one of the things that has really just jumped out to me so far this year Mike It's absolutely shocking. I totally agree and and to be honest with you if you're If you're bright Harper now and just you know going on a macro scale of what is wrong with the team right now You look at the teams like you said like the cubs and the braves If you're bright Harper and you're shown up to the ballpark today and your GM publicly stated He doesn't think you're good enough anymore
45And you're playing very well for the last two and a half weeks and you show up in the lineup A rookie making its second start in the big leagues is batten behind you You're probably like you know what like what what what more do you want for me? I'm shown up. I'm hitting home runs I'm trying to put the team on my back and nothing against Felix Reyes who has been exciting like you said But how did we get here? How's Felix Reyes batting forth on April 23rd? It's I know it's unbelievable and it comes back to Don Browski in my opinion Yeah, well Mike. I appreciate the phone call. I mean He's the one that is going to start catching more and more heat and he should the roster is not good enough and Again, you can you can fire Rob Thompson a million times over. Is that going to make it? Dolis Garcia turn into a 700 OPS guy? Is that going to make JT Real Muto turn back the clock? Is it going to turn out boom into a two 75 hitter? Is it going to turn stop into a two 75 hitter? I don't think that to be the case. Now, maybe you just do it just do it And I understand that and maybe can spark it and you do it early so you can realize that
49Our team's not right And deadline time becomes easier because you know the players aren't good enough And ultimately how much effect does a manager really have and hey Maybe they get someone in there like a buck show alter or a Bruce Bochi and There's a different level of respect because of their standing within the game that you know, maybe the players Tighten up a little bit. Okay. I can I can hear I can I'll take almost any opinion honestly to fix the team because everything Everything feels like it's on the table. It's been that bad On the other side, we'll get to move your phone calls of course with the player of the game and One positive note from the night Besides you know, it's good to see the big the big fellas go or have two homeruns But there was a positive tonight that I definitely want to see more up going forward It's Jack Fritz here on the final out on sports radio 94 Wipe-A. Welcome back. It is the final out Jack Fritz hang out with you Final out as always sponsored by the Philadelphia Parking Authority
55Eight and eight seven two nine ninety four ninety four is how you get in the player of the game tonight is brought to you by South Jersey Gas make the smart place save energy and money with South Jersey gas at S J G save energy dot com and I'll give it to Emanaga again, you know seven innings of of one run ball now Big improvement. They only struck out once so they did not generate 26 swings and messes But still it was really a whole bunch a whole bunch of nothing and You just go up and down the line up and you know bomb is down to an OPS of 384 384 now The one they Kind of bright spot and I would love to know how long it lasts. I mean Felix Ray is smoke the ball Every time he was up there tonight. It was a lot of hacking a lot of first pitch swing and I'm sure is the book gets out on him more and more he'll start getting breaking ball to death
59On OO count until he makes an adjustment back But I tell you what it was nice to see a guy actually hit the ball hard That was a welcome sight Because everywhere else from the lead-off hitter to the five-ball hitter to the six-hole hitter to the seven-hole hitter Marsh usually does a pretty good job of hitting the ball hard so you know, okay And Mudo Sosa was in there tonight didn't nothing Bryce is not never hits the ball hard So it was refreshing to see one player Be able to square-base ball up and looks like they were gonna threaten Look that they're gonna be a little a little dangerous at the plate. Oh my goodness. What a welcome sight Felix Reyes stick him in there left field who cares and you know day they've brought up an interesting point there if the dully's Can it continues to struggle and and you need a bat in the lineup that can do some damage. I mean Marsh in right Crawford and center Reyes and left
00Let's ride I don't know. I would like to see Reyes versus some versus some varieties first, but They don't really have a choice now. I know they gave the gave a dully's one year 10 million I'm sure they gave him a promise like hey, we'll play you a lot and and hopefully this could lead you to another contract He didn't make a swing adjustment tonight. So watch out pictures What's so just playing about a dully's is like the feeling so good It's so refreshing and watching a guy with the hose out there is is is awesome but He gets It's he's such an easy guy to pitch you because It looks like you can just bust them in with the fastball over and over again, and he'll never just turn on it And what's disappointing about where I was him is at least early the season when he was making out. It was a lot of loud contact It's going away. I mean he's not making any loud contact. So I mean there they'll stick him up there Because no one else is really jumping up and taking that that four-spot
02Maybe if he can give me a raise at least against lefties I don't think we we're at the point where he's playing against varieties I don't think just hitting the ball hard is is enough to get in there, but I don't know I wish I knew what the answer is I wish I knew what the answer was. I mean I would I would start by putting swore We're back at lead off Which has been too many times where we're trying comes up in a big spot and there's he's just He's not a dangerous hitter right now, and I mean you could argue he hasn't really been a dangerous hitter It's been a lot of you know singles and infield hits and I know we've thrown the idea of Crawford out there just because he Can't work a good about that. He seemingly there's not gonna let him play against left-handed starters for for whatever reason I don't particularly care. Mars you had two hits tonight. I want to see Justin Crawford do it He's supposed to be a long-term answer at center field and there's there's really no need to not have him out there But Nevertheless will is in South Philly. What's happening? Will Jack man here we are again, you know
05For a team that's supposed to have good starting pitching these guys can't get through six innings They can't get through five tonight. I mean This is just taxing the bullpen. Durant is out. You got ten games in ten days This is like shaping up to be this road trip from hell It's a perfect storm of just Horrible horrible. I mean ten walks gosh. I I'm getting ahead of myself though Jack, you know, I thought for some reason tonight. I kind of I kind of leave tonight feeling better than I did last night. There were some positives like you said right It seems to be smoking the ball. I thought they played some good defense tonight. I don't know Maybe it is delusional after watching this team lose seven straight that my bar has been lowered, but I You know, I think Tonight was a step in the right direction. They showed some fight right bone had a sack fly late put some back in it You'd the tying run did come up of course you have your lead off man doing nothing which we talked about I mean look they scored in more than one inning
07What is that going for tonight pop some champagne, huh? I mean what a what a moment that was I mean we should not be celebrating Another loss, but listen like looking at this team and the way it's constructed I think maddenly he's got to take over and I'm not talking about Don Yeah, yeah, I let right to pull the plug on on Dave and get pressed in there. I'd be on board I'd be on board. I appreciate the phone call will I really do um I can't believe we're we're there already with the the David and Topper conversations, but I mean Dave's done a great job of of spending the owners money and and Yeah, you look at the you look at the the roster right now They're paying 38 million to Cassianos and Taiwan you had another 10 million to adult lease on there, but whatever it was a cheap by low At least he had great defense and maybe the back comes back
09You gave you know five years a hunter. No, sorry seven years a hundred and seventy two million dollars to Aaron Nola Awesome, uh, I still think I think the Luzardo contract's gonna be fine But as it stands right now five years 135 million for Haysus Luzardo, uh, you gave tri-turner 10 years 300 million Uh, you you did double down on college, Schwabber. You gave him five more years, which again Fine with like I'm glad the college whorbers here Even if it's not going well right now You know jt. They gave three years to and I don't know I was worried that he grabbed his back again in the in the ninth the night didn't love to see that and the the gadget situation behind him is is certainly pretty dire He is brought back boom and start and marsh For for another year it hasn't really changed the chemistry up on offense and now you're watching a team
13That does look like it's stale and and going through the motions. I thought again. I thought tonight they They they tried, you know, like I don't I don't think they're just not trying I think that it looks like they're not trying when things aren't going well You know harbor made a really good defensive play marsh made a really good defensive play but They have a bloated roster a bloated bloated contracts on this roster and they don't look like a good enough roster and Man, it's just going to be really fascinating to watch this team And see if they can ride the ship obviously, but if they don't Or they get back to close to 500 What the what the trade deadline's going to be like it's going to be fascinating On the other side last segment for anything's off the tk. I know I'm doing another philly's post game show after a depressing philly's loss while one of our teams did something great tonight So don't you worry we will get to some some fun six years conversation. What a crazy concept coming up
15It's just a bit but one last segment of the final out coming up next here on sports radio 94 wip and that is why That is our wow moment of the game brought to you by the new jersey division of travel and tourism from waterfalls to fairways Mountain resorts to lighthouse tours find your wow and visit nj dot org. Yes. They scored in multiple innings tonight Yes, they did it. Oh, amazing Was nice see Harper go yard off of a lefty. I don't care what the score was We're all about the Harper counting stats this year for narratives and Just letting him get back on his BS and maybe he won't do it would be nice to be questions the whether or not Dave did browsing came back to being in elite GM. They'd be a nice cherry on top for what has been a For what has been a Just a cluster of a of a start to the season for the baseball team. It is the final out Sponsored by the Philadelphia Parking Authority. It is Jack Fred's hanging out with you as man. What are we?
2020 I mean 23 games into the season and and Given how this is going it's gonna be a physics can be a lot of these kind of final outs. I'd say what I don't like it I would like them to string a few to get there and let us have some fun, but my goodness it's It's actually hard to envision them winning a baseball game In my head. I know they're gonna win another baseball game but Trying to picture them actually doing it at this point Feels really tough It feels it's almost like everything would have to go their way Shorber and Harper might have to hit to each Pitcher might have to go 7-8 shuddy That Like that's where we're at Me us and meds fans Really in the same spot It's closed it down the final out tonight of Doug and Pennsock and what's happened to Doug?
22Hey, Jack. How you doing? Hey, Jack. How you doing? What's up, though? Well, you mentioned epic theater earlier in the show and I'll tell you what Episbee really stood in for me with this team When Yohan lost struck out faces loaded Game 7 2023 and LCS and since then Nothing was done to address that at all. This team still has Ferrari price tag Overgetting AMC grandma performance and the way this team is just constructed. It's just not built for a long haul and When you have a team where guys can't you know when one guy can't pick up the other one slack It all snowball with this and you think after for three years of this they would learn and they never do They need some fresh people from the outside and bring them in but again They don't want to do that So it really falls in the front office for the way the team is this year Well, with the way the team has been now Listen, if I wanted to play devil's advocate right I would say
26Listen, they won 96 games last year. They did Match up like the Dodgers beat him But it wasn't like they got bludgeoned in that series. It wasn't good enough But They were one of the best teams in baseball last year. It just didn't go the way in October But I do think to the point of and I appreciate the phone call Doug I do think to the point of Just keeping a lot of the same energy around and not changing the chemistry up and and continuing to double down on an older roster I think it's a more expensive roster. I think that's where the the Nebraska stuff really starts to Really starts to kick in now tomorrow is An interesting plan by the Phillies so Kyle backus is is going to start the game tomorrow With time and walker pitching in in in relief. So I guess he's he's gonna be the the opener
27what I find interesting about that is They start usually when you do that while it's because I'm watching the Phillies of course more than other teams But mostly you start a lefty Because they have a good lefty hitter in the first inning and you want to neutralize them Well, what are the Phillies doing tomorrow? I mean unless they think that Michael Bush is gonna bat second Like Nico Horner leads the go leads the game off Bragman hit second tonight now I understand again lefty maybe maybe Michael Bush will Will go to the two spot because it'll eventually be a righty But I don't think I'll have to do that. So Horner Bragman Half the switch hitter Suzuki is a is a right-handed hitter. I don't know seems like an odd decision I thought they brought up Alan Ron Hell to to start the game and then go to Taiwan but
27It's you know that feels a bit of the rearranging the deck chairs and the Titanic. So Ron Hell opening for for or sorry Kyle backus opening for Taiwan tomorrow So we'll see how that that plan works out And they're facing Matthew Boyd who I don't think is pitch very much here Things come back off of injury, but had an unbelievable year last year So he had a resurgent year was good pitcher a couple years ago for the Tigers But really rounded and figured it out last year. So it's another lefty starter that the Phillies will have to face So that's exciting means maybe maybe get uh Felix Reyes in there again and hey, maybe let's play the the 22 year old center field prospect that You're trying to groom to be an everyday guy over the guy who has proven he cannot hit left-handed pitching, but Who cares? That's gonna do it for me on the final out tonight. TK is next. He will uh, uh, you know Get fired up about some sixers basketball. I'm sure he can't wait to talk about the bias Turner That's come on next here on the final out on sports radio or just on sports radio 94 w. I pay
