Felon Sentenced for Illegal Gun Possession

A 47-year-old man from Birmingham in Jefferson County just received a 30-month federal prison sentence for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon. Jarelle D'Amico-Dunson pleaded guilty back in October, and US District Judge Anna M. Manasco issued the ruling. The trouble started on October 10, 2022, during a trespassing call at a vacant apartment. D'Amico-Dunson found D'Amico-Dunson there, but he slipped away before they learned about his 14 outstanding misdemeanor warrants. They caught up with him, soon after, in a parking lot at Legionfield, where he had a Smith and Wesson 40-Caliber pistol on him. D'Amico-Dunson already had felony convictions for burglary and robbery, which legally barred him from owning any guns, that made the possession charge a serious federal offense. This case ties into operation Take Back America, a big department of justice push to cut down violent crime and break up criminal groups across the country.
