I know. That's one of the great get together. I've done it. I've done it. I enjoy it. But I just think that those, some of those balls are too heavy. And you know what, I like the little ones.

2:03You like the five pin, the five pin. I don't like the heavy, heavy, heavy set ones. You get to throw your back out, you shoulder out. I'm not a bowling. How hard are you? We did, remember we did the 10, 40. We did. That was a, you know what, we did that. And the two weeks later, the station shut down, two weeks after we had a bowling function. But the last time, the Olympic opening ceremony coincided with Super Bowl weekend, I mean, talk about. Arguably two of the top three, if you throw in the World Cup, biggest sporting events you could possibly have. And they're both kicking off this weekend, opening ceremony,

3:06getting underway in about an hour or so. And then of course, Super Bowl on Sunday. Locally though, we should run it down. Abbotsford is at home for two games against San Jose, the Barracuda tonight at seven o'clock, tomorrow at four o'clock and tomorrow, by the way, with Abbotsford. It's Vancouver Connox Day. So it's when they honor their parent club. Henrik Sedin is going to be out in Abbotsford for a three o'clock Q and A. So if you're going to the game, you want to get there a little early, you can see the Hall of Famer and participate in a Q and A with Henrik Sedin. The Vancouver Giants are at home for two games. They got Spokane tonight at the LEC. Camelops, tomorrow at the LEC. Tomorrow night, the Warriors rematch against Rochester, Rick. It's wrestling night. We talked to Christian Del Bianco earlier this week, seven o'clock. For the Warriors on Saturday night, we should mention the Royals, Victoria, are in Washington state for a pair of games. So they're not at home. Let me get in just a quick Abbotsford note.

4:06Yeah, I feel for this defenseman, Correll Cudriets, he's going to miss the All Star game at the American hockey level on Monday and Tuesday. Yeah, he's got a high ankle sprain. So you know those things, Ryan, I think he's got a couple of two, three more weeks to go. But Dunkin' native Ben Barard, former power over paper king, Ben Barard's going to represent Abbotsford at the American Hockey League All Star game. So good for him. Abbotsford's got a lot of injuries right now to forwards. I think Joseph LeBate might be done for the year, Ryan. So just keep it that too bad for Cudrietssef. He's not going to go to the game. He's got a high ankle sprain. Abbotsford posted a really cool video of Manny letting go. Yes, I like that. It was really cool. And he's obviously really excited to go to that All Star game. You mentioned it, Rick. I mean, Abbotsford, tough go. Their last in the Pacific Division, 15, 25 and three is their record. But I mean, injuries fall up. Illness went through there. Well, the call-ups to Vancouver,

5:08I mean, they started the year knowing guys were going to be up here. Then you add on all the injuries that have happened in Vancouver and it's been a tough go for the defending Calder Cup champions. But they got their rings. That's over in dumb with. And we'll talk more about Abbotsford because there was news made with Abbotsford yesterday. And we'll talk about that more. As the show goes on, I mentioned the massive sports weekend, the Olympics opening ceremony, Rick, in about an hour from now. We should mention, because this happened after the show yesterday, the Canadian men's hockey roster had to make another change. Braden Point, another Tampa Bay Lightning player, out of the Olympics, he has been replaced by Seth Jarvis. Seth didn't interview in between periods during the Hurricanes game last night. And he got a bit choked up talking about how honored he is to be doing this. He wasn't happy that he was left off the roster when that originally happened. Seth Jarvis replacing the injured Braden Point. I think point just ran out of runway, Rick. He got ready. They did it. They did it. Doug Armstrong told us in our show,

6:09they're going to take it to the last segment. And he was hurt January the 12th. He had been practicing. But these guys, you have to be honest. I mean, you can't be 80%. Oh, you know, you have to be 100% guys. Yeah. You feel for Point. Yeah. He was a big part of Four Nations, right? Yep. You feel for him. But Jarvis, former Portland Winnerhawk, he gets to go in and he'll do a good job, fine job. There was a couple of fan bases screaming about this decision yesterday. I saw people at Edmonton, but Zach Hyman, that he's not a center. He's not a center. So there's that center. I do agree though, Zach Hyman. I don't know why he's not on that team. Then one for me, I'm a big fan of Zach Hyman. Oh, I agree. I told you that he doesn't get the headlines he probably should in Edmonton. Because of course, dry side don't make David a guess. The one for me is Mark Shifley. Rick Shifley, 68 points of 56 games this season. I mean, and he's a center. So he could have gone.

7:11And maybe Jarvis, I read a few articles talking about the game. He plays and the forecheck, he provides and all of that. I think ultimately as well, as we've seen now with the two replacements in San Bennett and now Seth Jarvis, it's very much clear that you had to really do something to beat out a guy that was at four nations. Yes, yes. And that's what happened with Celebrini. I think Celebrini was just so damn good, he got pushed ahead. But when they were talking injury replacements, I think you were always like if you were Conor Bedard or again, Mark Shifley, you had to really do something to get there. Canada could have put two teams in. Oh, he said, I mean, mostly he's going to have roster decisions too. But your top six is set, your top four D are set. It's those guys in the bottom six bottom pair that you really fight over, right? Yeah, and of course, they were comfortable, as you mentioned, Seth Jarvis at the four nations tournament. So the men's Olympic tournament, Rick, begins next Wednesday. Yes, February the 11th.

8:13Canada opens against Czechia the next day, the 12th, 730 AM. Is that game their first game? All of Canada's games, by the way, they're three pre-limb games, right? 730 AM, 1210 PM, and 730 AM. So not awful. I mean, early. But not awful. Great for us. Oh, yeah, no kidding. It's going to be great for Donnie and Dolly. We're going to talk about these games. Yeah, right after they happened. Right after they happened. Gold medal game, much like Russia is going to be 5 AM. That's an early one, on Sunday, February 22nd. We should touch on the women just for a second, because yesterday, Canada's game was postponed. Norovirus going through Team Finland. So they literally didn't have enough girls to play. So that game has been postponed to February the 12th. Canada will now open the women's tournament on Saturday tomorrow at 1210 against Switzerland, Canada and the US. Next Tuesday, 1110 are time for the women. So that'll be, of course, a game to watch. A lot of the Connuck players, you see Troy Stetcher is already in there. He's in Arizona, chilling in Arizona. So a lot of these guys that aren't going to the Olympics,

9:15they're in Hawaii, Mexico. So I do want to mention these Connuck players that didn't go to the Olympics, they can practice back February 17th, OK, with the team, yeah, with the team. So the Connuck don't do anything till the 17th. And so I just went in the trade freeze. We know is in trade freezes over February 22nd. Yeah, OK, so. And we should mention Adam Foot Wednesday night. I think it was Dranced that actually asked him about the injured guys. Connuck's have seven injuries right now. This is a good time to get some break here. And he expected Adam Foot did that all those guys should be back right after the break. The only wild card. And he kind of, I think he lumped in Heel to be back too, but he also mentioned that Heel is going to see another specialist. Well, yeah, he has to, like Ryan, why are you bringing him back? Why is that a story to you? Why are you surprised? I'm surprised that they're considering bringing him back this season. He's got a contract. I understand. He's put on his deal, but to what?

10:16You can't just cut him loose. I'm not going to cut him loose, but for this season, look at this. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, bring him back for this year. What's the point? I mean, what's the point? He needs to see this specialist. These migraines are popping up. That could be a long, long term thing he deals with. There's no point. You shut down Demko, do the same with Heel. And I'm going to tell you this. The next Olympics, connox have seven injuries, right? Yeah. Florida Panthers played nine games in 15 days. They got nine guys injured. The Islanders just played eight games in 13 days. Yeah, they got to figure this out. This is not good in any fashion or form. Is this condensed schedule is too condensed? Yeah, every team's got seven, eight, nine injuries. Like it is beyond ridiculous. Yeah, well, I saw the graphic. I was watching the Lightning Panthers game last night. We'll get into more of that later. Oh, yeah. I think they're at the 300 and something man games lost. The Panthers are the season. Something stupid. It is that Paul Polmaris talked about is more than the last two seasons combined. Rick, I'm with you. Like that men can scream about how the break.

11:16It's, oh, it's just such an inconvenience for us. And it is. So shutting down their league is not great. I understand that. But you need to also protect the games happening outside of it. And when you have this many guys injured, it's just totally hurting your product. Florida's got nine guys banged up. Yeah, except seven. They're playing eight games in 13 days. Yeah, that's not good in any way at all. Yeah. And look at it. And I can't remember one of the conucks, might have been Lincoln and talked about how it's actually thinned out a bit for them. Like the conucks have been playing every second day. As of late, they haven't had a lot of back-to-backs. But the damage was done early, y'all. Early on. A lot of these guys out early in the season. Yeah, you're right. They've got to find a way, started a week earlier, started 10 days earlier. I mean, you should be doing that anyway. But on an Olympic year, you have to. And what are these conucks going to Italy coming back? What are they going to look like? Yeah? Just the travel alone is just there and back is 30 hours. But the honor is amazing. Yeah. And they're not flying coach. I mean, they're not in Salt Lake City. No.

12:17It's obviously far away from home. You mentioned it. EP40, Heronic Camp, Lankanen. And forgotten Lucas Reiko for Germany. Yes, Lucas Reiko, who's in abyss first, is heading over there as well. And judging by how you judge things, EP40 should light it up, because he's going to have great line mates. Well, he's going to have a perfect day. He's not going to sweeten on a hot street. On a hot street. He's got no goals in 10 games. I know. I want to see how he does. I want to see where he plays in the lineup. And how Sam Alam uses him. You're good pal. My good pal is Sam Alam. 13:18have taken quite a roller coaster turn. We came in on Monday, and I think a lot of people were ripping BC place. And we're here on Friday, and I think a lot of people are now ripping the White Caps for how they've handled this week. Of course, they accepted that deal yesterday, but the way the communication has gone this week has just been awful. So we're going to talk with Ravi at 11 a.m. and get his thoughts on from the government side on how this has gone with the White Caps. And what's in the future? Because this is a one year lease they've agreed on. What's in the future now for the Caps and the Lions, of course, as well. 10.30, we're going to head back down to radio row mode. He's been handing out cigars, kissing babies, posing for photos. He's a busy guy pumping out the content. Gentlemen, doing well. Thanks for having me. I want to start, Thomas, with the culture leadership talk going on here. We talked about it a lot yesterday. Rick specifically talking about reflecting

16:22on Teddy Bluger's comments. And, you know, multiple times, Teddy Bluger talking about character of the group to Ian McIntyre. We've been doing this for two years now about culture here. Where, in your opinion, did this get off the track with the culture of the Vancouver Connox? The fall of 2020. OK, right? That was that was when they lost all of those UFNs. And I think the bubble guys. And I think the key there is, and look, there's been obviously compounding errors. But it wasn't just that they lost Tannev and Markstrom, right? And Markstrom had a ton of weight in that locker room was a key go between four Travis Green and some of the younger players on that roster. Tannev, you know, I mean, Peterson and Quinn called him dad. We know what he is all about as a human being and as a player. You lose Troy Stetcher, a guy who, you know,

17:23wore this jersey with more pride than just about anyone. And compounding that, you sort of choose not to qualify him, but extend Jake Vertan and instead, right? You lose Tyler Tefoli. And I mean, we've seen with Tyler Tefoli around young players in Montreal, in San Jose, everywhere he's been. He's been one of the most popular teammates you could ever have, relentlessly positive regardless of the team's circumstances. And it's not just that they lost all those gentlemen, although they're all huge losses, I think, from a cultural perspective. It's also what was asked of these players to compete in the bubble in the first place, right? I mean, this was a time, remember, when you show up in the bubble, you're in the bubble, but you still have to be masked. It's basically just like a compound around the JW in Edmonton. You have to quarantine on your way in, right? Guys were flying out and it took a week to re-enter

18:24just because they had to go home to see their babies be born. That's what happened to Jordi Ben, right? I mean, there were real sacrifices. I'm not talking like ordinary hockey sacrifices, like real sacrifices that people made to compete in the bubble. And you sort of come out of that and detonate that team that worked that hard and competed like that in the bubble. I mean, they won, they beat the blues because they wanted to be there more than the blues, right? Like that was a test of wills and the connox had the will to compete in that environment and they didn't reward that group. In fact, they undermined it. You know, it's not a coincidence that the next season you see Alex Edler depart. I mean, Alex Edler, you know, like that's a canary in the coal mine departure. And, you know, what, what? Within 18 months, we see them quit on Travis Green and you know, then everyone gets sort of high again on their own supply coming out of the voodoo bump. But, you know, I think at that point, maybe it was reprobble.

19:25Maybe there was a way to fix it. But I think you can sort of trace a direct line from there to where we're at today. Because, you know, I'd include things like, you know, who became extension eligible in the fall of 2020? Twin Hughes and Elias Patterson. They didn't even engage them, right? Like they didn't even engage them in contract talks. They go through that bubble season in 2021, which is a disaster. The team has the largest COVID outbreak, you know, in contrast, like who won in 2021, gentlemen? Do you remember it was in Tampa Bay Lightning? Do you know who took playing hockey during a pandemic more seriously than any other group of players? The Tampa Bay Lightning, right? Like they were the guys who were most adherent to all the protocols because they wanted to win. They had a chance to win. Why did the conucks have the largest outbreak? They, they, you know, didn't take it as seriously. Like it's not rocket science. And I just think there's a straight line that you can draw like everything that's happened since, I think you can honestly say is,

20:27is part and parcel with a cataclysmic month that this team had in the fall of 2020 that, you know, completely detonated in my view, you know, what they had an opportunity to build, which was at the very least a consistent playoff team around sort of this, this core that was assembled as a result of all the losing seasons between 2014 and 2019. And I think the organization's decisions in and around that month, their reluctance to spend, you know, and their failure to evaluate character, I think fundamentally undermined this core group. And I don't know that they ever really got back to level set. So how does the culture and the leadership and all of that get fixed? I don't know, but you know, one thing I thought about with the Teddy Bluger commentary, you know, aside from being very jealous that I'm at, got such great quotes, was the fact that Teddy Bluger said what we all see with our own eyes and know to be true.

21:28And the market reacted like it was incredible news, right? And it was, I'm not saying it wasn't. I'm just saying, why are we reacting like that? Like this teams won three of their last 23 games. Why did it take 23 games for somebody to start talking like this? Like where has this organization standards gone? You know, and I mean, think about early in the season when we could all tell that things were starting to go off the rails and there was that like relentless positivity from the organization. You know, I think these guys are protected. I think there's this idea that this market is like scary and shouldn't be engaged with, you know, that like it's too much to ask key leaders to be in the room after big losses, stuff like that. Like it's just like carry yourself with some fearlessness. You know, put things in perspective, right? Leveling with fans in this market seems like it's the scariest thing in the world for this organization. And I don't understand it.

22:28Like it's just hockey. It's just hockey. I know we take it seriously. I know this market can be tough, but I mean, how often, how much are you seeing Quinn Hughes talk in Minnesota? How much are you seeing J.T. Miller talk in New York? How much are you hearing from the Canucks's top players? Like day after day from these X Canucks who go elsewhere after big losses, after big wins, you're seeing them. Like you've seen more media clips of J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes since they got dealt, then you're seeing from, then you saw from them when they were here or then you're seeing from Heronic or Patterson. You know, and it's not like New York and Minnesota are super engaged talking markets, right? I mean, you know, I don't know how it is fixed necessarily. I think it's a complicated question. I think it probably, you know, has to be top down, right? Like I think this is fundamentally a question for like ownership too, right? Like what are we doing to incentivize character? And then for management and then for the head coach and then for the players.

23:28But, you know, I also think that for me anyway, it starts with just having some perspective that this is an entertainment product. You play in one of the most passionate and gauge talking markets on the planet. Try to have some fun. Try to approach this like it's not the most serious thing in the world. Like, you know, these aren't military secrets, right? But this isn't rocket science. We're not trying to build V2 rockets in a bunker somewhere, you know, so that our enemies won't figure out about it. Like approach this with a little bit of fearlessness and a little bit of perspective. I'd like to see that as a starting point of sort of what I think needs to be a bigger picture organizational accounting for how we've got to this point over the course of, again, what I would say the last five years. I don't think this is like a last two year problem. I think this has been coming for five years. What they do at the trade deadline is gonna tell us a lot. It's gonna tell us a lot about next year, the future,

24:29all that stuff. Which veterans are going, which veterans are staying? What do they need to do at that deadline for you to say we're going in the right direction? Yeah, and so I would say I would like to see them and there's a group of six players, Rick, that I like to group together because they're all in their late 20s. They're all signed long term to big money contracts and they all have some variety of no trade or no move clause attached to those contracts, although in one player's case, Connor Garland, that won't kick in until July 1st. And that's the three wingers to brass Garland and Basser. It's Elias Patterson. It's Heronic, but less so. Marcus Patterson for sure though, and then Kevin Lankinick. And for me, it's not about the individual players. Like I don't expect Kevin Lankinick to wave a no move clause, given the fact that he's got to do baby and he's missed some time for on personal leave this season. Like that's so it's not about the individual players, right? It's about the liability that this team has to manage here,

25:30which is that you've got a lot of players underperforming who are going to be expensive and who are only going to get older while they remain under contract. And at some point, you do need to, in my view anyway, manage your risk. And I think we saw this really clearly this week to be totally honest with you with the Artemi Pinaran situation and the absolutely embarrassing return that Chris Dury was able to pluck from the LA Kings as a result of the way that Pinaran wielded his no move clause, right? I mean, Pinaran is still an elite winger in this league, an elite offensive creator, and the Rangers took back a trade package that included conditions on a mid-round pick. I mean, that's tough. Like that is for me sort of a worst case scenario, but nonetheless, like a ghost of Christmas future, visiting you and, you know, in the hooded figure and pointing at the tombstone and being like, you're stuck, right?

26:31Like, you can't see that much control, in my view, when you're 30 second in the league and probably facing a multi-year climb out of the NHL cellar. And so I'd like to see them show some initiative in terms of some, be proactive in terms of managing their sort of risk profile from a surface area perspective as it pertains to those no move and no trade clauses. And for me, the only thing I'd add, Rick, is I don't view the trade deadline as the hard deadline here. For me, it's when Carter Garland's no move clause kicks in. So that's July 1. So it's the end of this league year. I want to see some movement on that front. I'd like to see it ahead of the deadline, but provided you do it before July 1, I think that'll represent progress. And again, I just want to clarify, this is not necessarily about Garland specifically, but if you're going to allow that no move clause to kick in on July 1, then I'd like to see you shed some of those other contracts first.

27:32And in fact, I think it's only prudent to do so. Otherwise, the bulk of this team's hockey value is going to be attached to rapidly depreciating assets, all of whom are underperforming, all of whom are at an age where it starts to become touch and go, whether or not they'll be able to continue to be as good next year as they are this year, right? And assigned to contracts that are going to severely inhibit this team's ability to hold open auctions and maximize future value. That to me is an untenable situation. That to me is how a three or four year rebuilding process becomes an eight or 10 year rebuilding process. Quickly Gavin McKenna, we all know what happened here in the last few days. She's either going to go one or two of the NHG. Connucks love him. He's ranked highly by the contracts. Yeah, they do. They've been watching them closely since the World Juniors. But what an interesting situation that is and how that unfolds in place out is going to be very interesting. Yeah, we'll let the facts come out.

28:32I mean, he's got the preliminary hearing. It sounds like on Wednesday next week. For my understanding, this is not something that he's dealt with before, right? This is a super competitive kid, hard worker, exceptionally skilled moves differently. For me, he was the clear 101 prior to this and now we'll just have to sort of wait and see patiently as the facts come out and as the legal situation plays out. I mean, felony charges are very serious. And so there's obviously a lot of uncertainty around him now. Hopefully we'll have clarity over the next five months prior to the NHL draft. But for a team that's in 30 second at the moment and seems very likely to be picking number one, number two or number three, I mean, navigating this situation for the connox doing their homework, really having a sense of the person and this legal situation as it plays out. I mean, this is going to be a top connox story and there's no way around that.

29:33We'll be tracking this closely as we should. It's going to fundamentally shape the top of the 2026 NHL draft one way or the other wreck. Both for the connox and in terms of where our attention is going to have to be. So patience, right? Let's try and get the facts before we react to it. But obviously a huge story from a connox angle and for Gavin McKenna personally. Awesome stuff as usual, Tom. Appreciate it. Enjoy the Super Bowl this weekend. I know you probably got some massive party planned. And while I was in Vegas, right? Of course. So I've got a little paper ticket on me. I've got a little paper ticket on me for a few hundred dollars. And I'm telling you now, I'll tell you. I'll tell you so your audience can sweat it with me. I've got Seahawks minus 13 and a half. I watched your interview with Luke Wilson yesterday on our YouTube, which is fantastic. The revenge game, are people actually considering this to be a revenge game for the Seahawks? Because of Seahawks, Patriots? No, no, no. It's interesting because, you know, as you mentioned, we talked about it with Luke. Yeah. In Richard German as well. For those guys in that game, nothing will ever take the sting away of that loss. Even a victory tomorrow, it will not take the sting away. It will take the sting away for the fans. That's the big thing, right?

33:38The fans are the ones that really want to beat New England and avenge that loss on second and down. But for the players involved in that game, not a chance. And you just touched about the sting of the loss. I got the sense from both Sherman and Luke that I think that that sting sticks with them more than the joy of that first win. I think you're right. I really do, right? I mean, it's the one, both the, it's interesting. I was just talking to somebody about radio row and the content that we're doing. I don't care who we got. For me, it's the ones that got away, right? And I think it's the same thing as a player, right? Yeah, you won that championship. It was great, but that you could have had too. You should have had too, right? And I think you're right. I think the sting probably stays a little bit more than even winning a championship. Hey, Moj, what team will do a better job of establishing the run game in your mind this Sunday? That's a good question, Rick. You finally came up with a good question. Not a great question, but a good question. I think, you know, Seattle's gonna have difficulty

34:40running up the middle against the Patriots. The rather stout, so expect them to maybe attack the edges as for the Patriots running the ball, man. I think so much of their offense and I've harped on this the entire week depends on Drake, man. I really think he has to be active with his legs. And I'm not talking about, you know, just running for his life. I'm talking about the fact that he has to somehow, some way with his legs and take the edge out of that Seattle defense. There's nothing that really demoralizes a defense. We talked about this with somebody else when I can't remember who it was, but you make the right call. You have the right defense. You have the people in place. And then I just beat you because of his athleticism. And I think that's what's gonna have to occur for New England have some success tomorrow. And I'm talking about Drake, man, with the athleticism. Well, Sam Darnal has not turned over the ball in the postseason yet. That's pretty impressive, Moge. If that continues Sundays, pretty good chance to see Hawks win. Yeah, I think there's a great chance to see Hawks win. But, you know, here going back to the running game,

35:42I thank you for the New England Patriots. And we talked about this with Jolani Tavaide the other night. Jonas older brother, of course, with the Patriots linebacker. And, you know, if they can hit, for him, it's all about stopping the run. For the Patriots it's all about stopping the run. If they can get Darnal then second and ninth, third and tenths, you know, get them as we would say off schedule. Now all of a sudden, maybe Sam Darnal starts pressing starts to try to make something happen. And if he does, well, then maybe he's prone to making a mistake. You've talked to so many people this week, Moge. Has the opinion changed? Has the prediction, have the predictions changed moving from the sea, Hawks of the Patriots? No, no, not at all. Yeah, it's so funny because I've gone on to ESPN.com this morning. And I looked at, you know, their predictions. I think 82% of their, whatever, 58 experts were picking the sea hawks to win. And the average score was 2717. And ironically enough, guess who's picking Seattle and guess who's picking 2717? Yours truly, right? So it seems like the media for the most part is all lockstep in terms of picking the sea hawks and that ten point spread.

36:43You've done a lot of interviews. As I mentioned this week, have you had more fun than the one with Frank Caliendo and Jim Gray? Who's that? As I said during the interview, who saw that on your bingo column? That's it. Frank Caliendo, it was interesting because we had Jim Gray lined up. And Frank Caliendo was doing an interview with their good friend Anthony Rodriguez from the KOA in Denver. And the crazy thing is they knew each other. Caliendo had worked Jim Gray's birthday party like 17 years ago. And Caliendo was on a tight schedule. So well, let's just do you both right now. Like we'll put you both on there and a way we went. So like I said, we didn't have that on our bingo card. But Caliendo was, he was amazing. I mean, you heard him. I mean, you could see him on YouTube as well on Donnie and Dolly's YouTube page. He was so funny. So Friday, you always say it's the busiest day of the week. You guys got a lot of A-listers lined up to close out the week. Do you know what's interesting? You mentioned that. We've seen this trend the last couple of years. Fridays for whatever reason, have tapered off a little bit.

37:43It's now like 10 quarter to 11. And it still hasn't really picked up here. Usually at the last couple of years, Wednesdays and Thursdays have been like stupid. And Fridays have kind of been okay. But you know, there's still time. I know John Grudin's going to be by this afternoon, chatted with him, texted with him. Hopefully we can squeeze him on board. We do have Devon Hester scheduled to join us Hall of Famer in a matter of minutes, Chris Russo and our good friend who's working color. He's got the headset on right now, just across the table from me. We're going to interview Jeff Reimbold, who's working color for the Ireland Hall brought on radio. So it's going to be a lot of fun talking to Jeff. So yeah, we got that lined up. Taylor LeWon and Will Compton, we've been trying to nail those guys down, bustin' with the boys. Well, the reason I voted for that, Rick, is because I think it's the one that's the least guaranteed of the three. Everybody in their dog is saying the Seahawks are going to win the Super Bowl. I'm very nervous about that, because usually when that happens with teams in the Pacific Northwest, the opposite happens. So I'm nervous about that, but everyone's picking the hawks. Canada winning the hockey gold medal, are they the favorite? I think you can make a case for any team, any of the big countries being a favorite, but Canada's defending four nations champions, right? So you have to say that they would be the favorite. Again, less of a guarantee. But the four nations were tight. The Americans are going to over time. Over time, we didn't have Queen Ewes. Yeah, absolutely. You're going to say we didn't have Queen Ewes. Absolutely. But you're right, Rick. If we have this dark season, where they're actually in this position of being 30 second, they should be get the first overall pick. But if the lottery goes the way it has in every year

42:45for the Vancouver Connucks and something happens, that's really going to be a kick in the UNOwear, because this fan base has been through hell since 2011. Yeah. And for them not to get the first is going to be an absolute, it'll be BS bottom line. If they get second though, I feel like that would stink less than Canada losing gold. Because Canada is expected to win every time they go in. That is true. But Queen anything could happen at the Olympics. They don't win the gold every year at the Olympics. There are some good teams at the Olympics. They have their favorite though. Yeah, absolutely. But I worry about the Americans. This time they'll have Queen Ewes there. So you do worry. But it should be Canada, US, and the final. I do agree with you there. And you are right, Queen. The sting of them losing the gold medal. Well, it'll be there. And the one consolation prize I will say. If they got second, like Quinn just mentioned, if the connox gets dropped the second, almost every scouting prospect. How have the teams got McKenna one?

As I mentioned, Rick, before the break, we do have an update in what is happening with Gavin McKenna. This is a tweet here out of Pennsylvania that is from six news, WJACTV.

47:53Prosecutors in Center County say they are withdrawing. They fed felony aggravated assault charge against Gavin McKenna. The report goes on to say, investigators allege. The assault stemmed from an exchange of words between the victims group and the people who Gavin McKenna was with. Upon further review of video evidence, prosecutors believe McKenna did not act with the intent of cause, serious bodily harm, nor did he recklessly act with extreme indifference to the value of human life. There's also the report is quite lengthy, but State College police also confirmed that a follow up with the victim. He was not missing a tooth as once was reported. He did suffer two fractures to one side of a jaw, and he has had surgery and the victim is recovering. So this is obviously going to lessen a potential penalty because the felony is what a lot of people are throwing around a lot of concern.

48:53There were 20 years in jail. This is a classic example, and this is why Twitter fails. And it allows, we live in a society where we don't wait for, we don't have much patience in stuff like this. We just rush to judgment. Now this comes out two days later, and now we can all sit there and say, OK, well, now this changes all the dynamics. Instead of guessing or coming to a conclusion that this guy's his career is over, conducts aren't going to pick him. This guy's the worst guy in the world. Now you're starting to see the facts come out, and we don't wait for facts on Twitter. All we do is rush to judgment. And it's just the worst thing about Twitter. But this is good information today. The charges have obviously lessened, and I think that when it's all said and done, I don't think it will be anywhere near as big as we thought. Yeah, and Rick, I mentioned it yesterday. I mean, look at just recently what's happened when it comes to rumors involving hockey Twitter. Look what we did. Look at the Ottawa.

49:53Well, a Corey Perry before that. A Corey Carp, and the vicious rumors about Corey Perry and another player's mom. Yeah, some guy just tweets it. People believe it. It's the worst thing about Twitter. A guy with 10 followers can tweet something, but people believe it. You know, it's just a very bad criminal case like this. Even the Ottawa, the guy that tweeted about all Mark and Ottawa, he deleted his count the next day. Like it is just astonishing to me the amount of people that believe stuff on Twitter. It's just the worst thing, and we've seen it with hockey. It's really bad. So he's still facing a misdemeanor charge. So there's still a proceeding that is going to take place here. And I haven't seen a statement yet from Penn State. I could be wrong, but they're getting on information. So yeah, that's the thing. Well, why not sound out of press release when you have all the info? Yeah, yeah. Well, because then maybe they were told by authorities that they were in the midst of this investigation still and just hold off. So it's understandable. This kid's going to go either one or two in the NHL draft.

50:55I'm pretty sure of that. I think it would be a much different story, Rick, if this was a pattern. You know, if he had run into the law before, he'd never had run into the law before. Oh, so this kid was in medicine hat for three years. As a 15-year-old, he put up tremendous numbers. There's no issues in medicine hat when he was there. So it was just one of those nights that everything could go wrong, went wrong. Up next, we're running a little short on time. He has been the spokesperson from Pavko and the B.C. government and the ongoing negotiations between the caps and B.C. place about a 2026 lease. And Ravi, thanks for taking time to do this today. How are you?

52:57Hey, thanks, guys. Thanks for having me. This is a highlight for me. It's been a long time wanting to come on this show and I'm glad I found a way to sneak myself in. Oh, nice. Well, hopefully we don't let you down. Let's start with your reaction. Yesterday, it's kind of been a back and forth. Yesterday, the White Caps announcing that they have accepted the offer you guys put forth about the net zero revenue share agreement with the caps and the caps yesterday announcing they have accepted that one year lease with B.C. Place. Yeah, please, please, to hear that because, you know, essentially we went to them and said, we want you to be successful. We want you to stay. We make about a million to a million and a half net every year from the caps and we're giving it back to you. And not only that, but, you know, the complete package that Pavko has put out is about $2.7 million. That's, so that's, you know, additional revenue generating opportunities for the caps. And so, you know, at first when they said no, that was kind of like what the heck is going on.

53:57But I think it's more positive to hear that. And what we said to them, though, guys, is that we're going to continue to work with them. We appreciate they have, they have other challenges, fiscal challenges beyond the stadium that they need to address. And if there's ways we can work together to address that, we're willing to stay at the table with them. I think one thing that people are surprised about it is, it is only a one year lease. Why only the one year and have you guys began discussions about a longer term extension between the caps, Lions 2 and BC place. Well, it was, because it was a World Cup year. Yeah. And, and of course, that was a request from the caps. We are discussing with them about, you know, future years. What does that look like? It's early days. You guys know that they've, they've signaled the ownership group of signal that they want to sell the team. They're looking for buyers. And so there's a lot of kind of moving pieces with this. But we stay, you know, interested in wanting to find a way forward with them here, keep them here.

54:57And, and so we're still there. Pap goes at the table discussing things with them. Other officials are at the table having conversations as well. Well, you surprised at their reaction to the offer. It didn't sound like they were very thankful initially. Yeah, I was surprised, I have to say. And, you know, I think, you know, there's a World Cup year. And maybe, you know, maybe there's a sense of let's see how much we can get out of the government kind of thing. And, and that's fine. You know, we deal with companies all the time, organizations all the time that are trying to get the best deal possible for them. But, you know, being again, offering them saying, you know, what, the stadium's free at cost to you was a big step. We've got a lot of pressures. You know, I hear from people all the time. You know, I'm getting mixed reviews. Sometimes people are like, yeah, I'm glad you're able to do this to keep the team here. I'm a sports fan. 11 years have been season ticket holder. And so, you know, I get why this team is important to people in the community. But I also get the other side from people who say, listen, we have healthcare pressures. We have education pressures.

55:57And why are you guys using our precious dollars for this? So, we try to trick a balance. We want the team here. They do provide good economic value to our province, to our communities. But we also have to be realistic with taxpayer dollars. And we have to be fair to the Lions and other partners that are using our venues as well. And so, it's a tricky balance. But I'm hopeful that we can continue to walk together in this path. Are the BC Lions getting the same offer? Yeah, you know, this is what the path course discussion has been from day one, which is, you know, if we're going to offer things, especially around more revenue generating opportunities to the caps, we want to make sure the Lions get those same offers. And so, that's why it's a challenging conversation. This is not just give white caps a deal. We have to consider that everything we do here has to be reciprocated because the Lions are important partners. They contribute to the local economy just the way the white caps do. And so, how that works will be slightly different, you know, ticket sales, there are different numbers

56:59and et cetera, et cetera. But we do want to offer similar prospects to the Lions as we go forward as well. Why is there never a sponsor for BC Place and naming rights? Like it surprises me, like that the BC Place doesn't have, what's going on there? Well, Rick, you may remember a few years ago, there was just a deal, right? Yeah. And, you know, that's, I won't call it a scandal. I'll just say it was, it was not quite clear what happened there and how that thing fell apart. And so, I think there was a bit of sense of from, it's a two way thing. I think one, there was a sense of like, how do we find a way to move forward after that? But also from industry that want to invest or potentially bid a sense of like, are you guys serious? Now, that being said, we are serious. This is something we're considering as we go forward. And we'll find a way that any revenues come that we can find a way to partner and get additional revenues for our main tenants in the building as well.

58:00One of the things I think the White Caps have talked about in the past, Ravi, is the lack of available dates for their games at BC Place. That seemingly the BC Place side has been really strict on. Here's so many dates for so many games, that's it. There's nothing more. Do you know about if that is part of this that more dates have been available, opened up to them for scheduling purposes? Well, again, as a season takes hold, I know majority of the games are on Saturdays. And so, that's prime time. I do appreciate if they qualify and they go beyond the season, they're into playoffs and then, and that can be challenging because you may have a concert booked because there's a flip side too, right? If you have a concert booked, you're not going to tell everybody that bought a ticket to that concert, hey, sorry. You know, we have to make way for the White Caps game. And so, it's a balance that we have to do as we go forward because we have to book the stadium for other events as well. We've got to make some revenue for the province. You know, Pavco has said, listen, let's map it out.

59:01Let's figure out where those challenge points are and let's find ways to address it. You know, through the playoffs, I know there was a couple games where it was a challenge. It's not widespread though, guys. I mean, it's the odd game here and there. But I understand that's an important revenue opportunity for the Caps. And so, Pavco is at the table. If you're okay, how do we map this out in a way that gives more certainty to both parties? I saw you quoted this week saying, the Caps haven't asked for any money for a new stadium. Of course, that's a big topic as well. Potential Hastings Park site for a new stadium. What would be the position if the Caps beyond BC place came to the government asking and looking for money for a new stadium on a new site somewhere? Well, here's the thing, there's a couple of things. I think the important one, you know, we've put this deal in front of them saying, it's that, you know, you're not paying anything above cost to operate. And second, you know, they're scheduled for the White Caps has changed. The MLS has changed it to, you know,

1:00:02some colder climate times. And really do you want to be going to an open-air stadium when, you know, the schedule has changed. So, you know, we're trying to urge them to say, well, is this really what you want to do? But, you know, if it means that they want to keep the team here and they need this and I get it, you know, everyone I talk to that's in the sports management space says that the new model for teams is less to make money on the actual games, but they make it on the fan zone, they make it on the restaurants and the whole, you know, atmosphere around the stadium. So I get the desire for them to do that. But we will support them. I know they have an MOU with the city of Vancouver. You know, they're going to need to build restaurant capacity. Right now, they're not allowed doing all those things by law. But we would work with them to allow them to do that if they chose to go that direction. But that's a, that's going to require a lot of capital. And so if they need us to participate, we'll, you know, engage in the conversation to figure out what that is. But we're not building a new stadium. That's the question.

1:01:03You know, if you look at the last investment we made in the White Caps when we built the brand new training facility at UBC, the province contributed $14 million towards their training facility. So there has been investments in the past. But I think that we're trying to find a pathway forward here. It's less capital intensive. Maybe a new ownership group might be interested in that. But, you know, I heard Axel, you know, in his last interview saying that, you know, they're challenged by $10 to $40 million a year. That's a lot of money. And, you know, how are you going to find the capital to build a brand new stadium? So those are things they have to consider. But at this point, guys, they haven't requested any money from us. And it's just an early day concept. One of the things we've heard a bit, Ravi, with people in our inbox about, you know, this new deal, about essentially operating at no cost for the Caps, are they going to see concession prices now go way up parking and other things to balance this whole situation? What would you say to that?

1:02:04Well, that's not the plan. Not from a pathless perspective. But part of the conversation that we're having with them is, you know, how can they market different parts of the stadium in a different way? You know, like, we've just made some significant investments to BC place for FIFA World Cup. And these are good investments in the sense that it enhances the spectator experience in the stadium. Like, I had a chance to walk through their last week. And it looks, it looks fantastic. It looks really good. And so that means there's going to be a better viewer opportunity for White Caps, but also means that there's going to be new areas that potentially they can have marketing there. You know, they can have different companies sponsor different sections. So I think there's opportunities for revenue that it's not going to go to the ticket, you know, the fan directly. And I certainly hope that's what they explore as they go forward. Ravi, thanks so much for doing this today. We really appreciate it here in your side of it. And thanks for being a fan of the show as well. And I know it's close to home, as you mentioned,

1:03:0411 year season ticket holder. So it's too prong for you. I know this whole thing. Yeah, it's two hats, but let's hope they keep staying here because they're, they do contribute. That written statement came out on Tuesday, I guess it was against what, what Ravi and the BC government was proposing. It seemed harsh. It seemed like, yeah, this is not a appreciative. We're not appreciative of what the government's doing. And, you know, the government's number one job is to take care of taxpayers, Ryan. We live in one of the most expensive cities in the world. And it's hard to feel sympathy. He just said it. He hears from people, right?

1:04:05I mean, exactly. It's hard to feel sympathy for these owners who have hundreds of millions of dollars. You know, I'll tell you a quick story. David Bailey lost nine million in his first three years. He never bitched or cried or whined. And then he saved the 86ers when they were going to fold. The guy from Hamilton saved soccer in this city. He didn't cry. You know, it's when you don't never hear from these guys, these owners, when things are going good. And they're making profits and going to the bank to deposit the profits. But you hear from these guys, and they start to threaten. Oh, we're going to leave town when they're losing money. You know, and it's starting to get old. We lost AAA baseball. We lost the PGA. We lost the Molson Indy. We lost the Grizzlies. You know, it's just getting tiresome when these guys lose money. And then all of a sudden, you hear from them. But when they're making money, you never hear from them. Well, and Rick, that the 40 million number acts of soccer. How many of you want? How many of you want? What is your budget? Yeah. If you're 40 million short, you have 12 soccer players on the team.

1:05:05Baseball's got way more. Football's got way more. Hockey's got way more. Why is the soccer team 40 million short? Yeah. What is your budget? Like, I don't get it. I need more info. Is every player making 10 million? Yeah, well, they're not. They're not. From what I could tell based on looking yesterday, the Caps payroll is sub 20. It's about 17 million, I think, for their player wages. Yeah. So I'd love to know more about that 40 million number. How many 40 million short? Yeah. What is your budget? And from what I'm told, they get four to five million from Apple TV rights. Yeah. So, like, what are we doing here? Like, you know, Well, and I've been told that for beer sales, for instance, if it's if a tap is hit five times, the caps get one of every five. You know, so maybe you can get together with that. But to your point, I mean, I see lines. When I go to white caps and lines games, I see lines. I see people buying food and beverage and whatever. So there just seems to be a gap.

1:06:05And there are also, I said this within the week, it also, that one to one and a half million that the government makes off the white caps. Yeah. That should probably be higher too. Oh, exactly. You know what I mean? Like, I think there's questions on both sides here. Ravi was a very good spokesman to kind of clear some of those things up. Also, the message about the stadium, you know, that ain't happening from the BC government. So, Mark Dohmann, he thinks outside the box. So he's got these hip-hop Jay-Z guys coming in. Yeah. He sells out the stadium. Yeah. He gets revenue on the side. Yeah. Maybe the white caps need to start thinking outside the box for revenue. Yeah. Like, Mark Dohmann does it with all these hip-hop guys. What do they call it? Rappers. Rappers. He gets them. He sells out. He's getting extra revenue. Yeah. Maybe they need to get smarter down there with the white caps. But they sure, you know, again, they had so much goodwill built up last year. Yeah. Right? I love soccer last year. Everyone's. But man, they're starting to sound like another team threatening to leave down. Yeah.

1:07:05And, you know what? I don't like that. Yeah. And you've talked about it all week too, Rick. You know, a lot of people have a lot of hardships right now. It's never been more expensive than it is right now in 2026 for groceries and gas. Oh. It's a bag of groceries. Right. And so when you have people that are part of a franchise, these guys are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. It's tough. You know, the guy that's got his own business and society and his struggling, he's not going to the government and getting 1.5 million. Yeah. Anyway, really good stuff there from Ravi on the other side. Rick, the last night was the final night in the NHL before the Olympic break. Conox ended on Wednesday. Rick, I mentioned it last night, the NHL season, concluding ahead of the Olympic break. That is not all that together. Yeah. So the NHL, in all its wisdom, schedules the lightning and panthers. Oh, that's one of the final games before the break. And shockingly the game went about as lightning and panthers as you could assume. The lightning beat up the panthers both on the ice and on the scoreboard. They ended up winning this game, Rick. 6-1. But a rivalry was renewed between, you'll see the fight happening in the middle of your screen there between Brandon Hagel and Matthew Kitchuck. Two dudes literally hours away from getting on a plane to head to Milan for the Olympics. Yeah. And here they are fighting. And I was reminded this morning about them fighting at foreignation.

1:10:11So this is the second battle. By the way, Gustav Forzling on Moser here. Former Cadak. Former Cadak. Former Cadak. He was some kind of angry. Everybody said about. He kept punching him. He kept punching him. On the ground. On the ground. And then he finally said, okay, let's go. You're talking about before they started fighting. Yeah, you're right. I know. I know. And he said enough is enough. And then he pounded him. Yeah. But this, I think right now, in terms of everything involved, I think that's your best rivalry in the NHL. It's the lightning in the Panthers. And it helps that both teams have been really good over the last five years. Yeah. The Panthers are out of a playoff spot at the moment, but they've dealt with a ton of injuries we talked about that earlier. But these two teams reheat each other. This is the best rivalry in the NHL. You know what I thought about when I watched this? Is the connects don't have one. They don't have a rival. No. Not a close. Seattle's not close. It's not going to. It's the closest. It's the closest. But I mean, you know, Calgary was for years, but they haven't been. The connects haven't been very successful.

1:11:11So it's hard to create rivalries. You know, you usually create them mostly in the playoffs, division rivals. Yeah. Connects don't have a rival. They don't have anything that comes close to that. Yeah. It's very deflating. They don't have one. They just don't have one. There is a path forward to lightening Panthers first round by the way. The Panthers are going to make up some points. They're like nine points already. Yeah, so not there. It's a ways away. Not there. Elsewhere in the NHL, the Flyers Rick losing an overtime at home. Two one to the sends. Fifteen shots at home for the Flyers. Yeah. Not great for Rick talking in company there in Philly. They've been banged up with injuries and they've had a bad two or three weeks. All the Meech cough stuff. All that stuff. They're also still in their rebuild. They started out hot and they were ahead of schedule. And now they think they've come back down to earth. One team that hasn't been hot at all and they're continuing to not be hot. Rick, the New York Rangers, the Carolina Hurricanes, beat the Rangers. Two nothing. I ripped this off from John Chan in our pal. Okay. For the Rangers. Twenty five home games this season for the Rangers.

1:12:12Okay. Shut out seven times. They have six home wins. Yeah. They've been shut out more than they've won at home this season. Marvel. They just traded their leading point getter, Panarin. Little did I know I would still be associated with the Jays through the 2025 season. This is the interesting part. He says I had hoped to be part of the 50th year of the Jays, but it's time to pass the torch. Enjoy 2026 and beyond, I will see you down the road. He has had documented health struggles, so hopefully all is good there. But some people pointing out that line there, but regardless, an amazing career. I mean, 4,000 games.
