1:01Here's the rundown. Yeah. I asked Ryan what the situation was. And naturally right off the bat he comes out with the American situation. Paxitani Phil in Pennsylvania saw his shadow. He did six more weeks of winter down there. I was more interested in Wyrton Willie, probably the best known Canadian Groundhog in Ontario, but did not see his shadow. So that means an early spring. However, I didn't know this. And I have to watch what I'm talking about here when it comes to Groundhog Day. We'll get into that in a second. But there's a Groundhog over in Vancouver Island where a boss is our Van Isle Violet. Van Isle Violet. Yeah. Viv. Van Isle Violet in the Nemo saw her shadow. So six more weeks of winter in this area, according to the Violet. Viv. Let's get spring going.

2:01Davis Rain. Barry Mcdonald and I did a pregame conduct show back in the 10, 40 days. Yep. They were out of the playoffs. I'm kind of like right now. And we basically spent the two hours of the pregame show talking about Groundhog Day. We lost our radio rights right after that. I think there might have been a connection there. But Van Isle Violet over in the Nemo special hello from Rick to Van Isle Violet. Absolutely. I saw her shadow. Connection you taught tonight moving on. Six thirty Pacific start in beautiful Salt Lake City. It's the mums trip. Yes, all the mums are on the trip, which is a really nice thing. You'll love to see that. Yeah. Two gamer. That's it. Two game road trip for the mums. Most teams, you know, three, four games are what is for the road trip. But the mums are the dads. Interesting. And the connoisseur at Vegas. Well, if you're going to go on a two game road trip, just a two game road trip, take in the mums.

3:02Salt Lake City, which I've never been to have you been to. No, no, not at all. And of course, there are people in our business who were there before the mammoth got there for the Olympics back in 02. It's supposed to be beautiful. And you see the pictures from there at Vegas on Wednesday. Then the Olympic break, right? Yes. So the roster freeze on Wednesday, right? The connoisseur is going to get a deal done before then? Well, and not only that, Don, after the freeze. 22nd, by the way. Yeah. You're going to come back and there's only 12 days to the trade deadline. More and more teams are going to get into the trade market. It's going to be crowded. Connoisseur sent their memo out 10 weeks ago. And at that time, they're one of very few teams selling. So they've had ample time. Everybody wants all these veterans. They've had ample time. Now when they come back from the Olympic break, it's going to be a crowded market. A lot more teams are selling. Well, they did trade Sherwood and of course Hughes earlier. Yeah, I do understand that. Hughes wasn't supposed to be traded, but that's a trade they didn't want to make.

4:03But they had to. So meanwhile, the connoisseur lost 15 of 17, 30 second overall. Anybody who's in favor of a rebuild, this is just fine. And there's been a lot of games lately with the connoisseur. And I'm okay with this, where they've been competitive. Competitive. Saturday night, for example, it goes to a shootout. And the games have been entertaining. That certainly was the case against the Leafs on Saturday. So three to the Leafs win. The big story coming out of that game for connoisseur fans was what I just talked about. And you know, they lose. They get the single point. But entertaining. And everybody's okay. People are smart. Yeah, this is okay. This is just just fine when you're talking about a team that is clearly rebuilding. They've gone in record as saying that. But the big story afterwards was Jonathan Leckermacky. Yeah, it was. And his lack of ice time, three shifts in the third period. I believe none in the last half of the third period. And then no shifts in overtime.

5:06He'd scored earlier in the night. We got that goal. Nice goal, too, by the way. Yeah, absolutely. He's got a gift. He's got a wonderful NHL caliber release. Now you can talk about the rest of his game, which Adam Foot did post-game. That defensively, there's some work to be done. But an offensively gifted player in a game. Let's be honest here. That doesn't mean a whole lot to the Vancouver connoisseur. No shifts in overtime. I found that surprising. I did too. A great pass from his Ogren. His teammate, Ed Duzer Gardens in Sweden. And Donnie, they rekindle some old match. You just don't want to get controversial. I'm getting there. But I thought the pass by Ogren was there. Hey, look. Let's look at Leckermacky. Most of his goals in Avispert and in the NHL. Remember the shootout goal in New Jersey are very nice goals. He scores beautiful goals. He doesn't have the trust of the coach yet. Defensively Don. He doesn't have it yet.

6:06Foot doesn't want to play him in OT. Last 12 minutes, he had one shift. Does not have the... Well, it's a pretty big game. So I could understand that. And he doesn't have the trust. A young kid's tight game third. You know, we'll sit in the bench. No. No, no, no. In overtime. But here's where I get upset. What do you have an overtime? Three on three more time in space. A guy with a shot like him. Maybe play a one really good defensive player out with him. Or maybe even two. But give that guy that guy time in space in overtime. Donnie, what's the hardest thing to do is create space and get it. Puck on his stick off in overtime. Ask Patterson. Well, and if you can't give a... Here's my problem. If you can't give a young guy ice time when you're in 30 second place. Don, when are you going to give my... I don't know what side you're on. I... Does it have to be a side? I'm telling you all the pros and cons and him not playing in overtime. I disagree with it. And I have all the respect in the world for Adam foot. And a lot of people might not feel the same way. But here's my thing.

7:06Yep. Everybody talks about statistics and analytics. And we do too. Well, we don't talk about analytics as we're not smart enough to figure that stuff out. I think hockey at any level, it's a game of moments. And when you've got somebody that gifted offensively with a release like that, there is an opportunity here or on Saturday night for him to shine and come up with a big moment and build his confidence at the highest level in circumstances that are made for him. And I just think that things can grow from a moment like that. If he was able to take advantage of what you talked about that time and space during the three on three situation, he pops in a goal. What does that do for his confidence? And again, you lost the game, right? Nobody's upset about that. It's okay. You're in that situation. And okay, he's got to learn how to play the 200-foot game.

8:09But I just think you pass up a golden opportunity for somebody like that and what does, let's be honest here, a mean nothing game for the Vancouver Connection. That's a lot to the Toronto Maple Leafs. For him to have a moment like that, I think it could be a jumping off point for somebody like Jonathan Lecker-Mackie. I think that's a missed opportunity. And again, people can disagree. That's fine. I just thought it was, it's tailor-made for a player like that. Three on three. David Kamp got three shifts. A lot of people are upset at that. Nothing against that. Centerman. But sure, sure. I get there. But no shifts for somebody who could scored earlier in the night. I thought that was, I thought that was interesting at the very least. I found it odd too. Look, they got to get this kid going. He's not, he wasn't drafted last year. He wasn't drafted the year before, Donnie. They got to get this guy going. They're giving ice time to young kids. Well, lander. William. Elise Patterson, the defenseman on the blue line.

9:10Which is much harder to play at 2021 on the blue line than a forward. And they're given those kids ice time. But they're really, really reluctant to do the same with Lecker-Mackie. And here's another one for you. I don't know if you would have been called up, Don. If Bessert didn't get the concussion. I don't know that. Like, I mean, I don't. So you're, you're thinking of that? No, I'm just thinking. I'm trying to overall tell you. They don't think his games are done. If Bessert doesn't get a concussion, I don't know if he's up. But I'm of the belief that your game can grow from giving a kid the opera. I get it if it was an important game. Yeah. But let's be honest here. It's not. They're not going to play important games. The most important thing right now is development of the young players to get in a position to draft a Gavin McKenna or whoever. Yeah. That's the most important thing to put him in position to do something like that. I think your game grows from there. Again, people can disagree with me. That's fine. They lost the game. So, you know, but does he learn more?

10:13Like, okay, put it this way. He sat the most of the third period. Okay. The second half of the third period, most of overtime. Yeah. I think he got that he did something wrong. Right. Right. And that you hope that he'd be smart enough to learn from that. Give him a shift. Yeah. Give him a shift. Give him a shift. Allow him the opportunity for that big moment Saturday night. Hockey night in Canada. Again, not an important game, but it's a big stage against Toronto. Yeah. Actually, he pops one in. That's a great moment. I think it's a missed opportunity. Trust is in there. Bottom line. If the trust was there, he had a plate. He had one shift in the last 12 minutes. So, I know you're saying was a good move. I didn't see that. I'm saying to you the reason the foot's not playing him. He doesn't trust him defensively. Bottom line. You got to play defense too, Don. It's just not a... They don't want to win seven, six, nine, eight games. You know, it's a tight game in the third. He didn't... But, you know, maybe, you know, that... The growth in his game...

11:13Yeah. It is more likely to be there if he has a big moment like that. Yes. And he had that in New Jersey. Remember the shoot-up ball? Yeah. And I understand there's arguments to be made for both sides. Yeah. And he had scored earlier in the game. Yeah. Absolutely. Nice goal. Now, I tweeted this out on Saturday, you know, as well. Actually, after he scored. I'm talking about another connoct prospect. Another connoct Swedish prospect. Tom Veylander. Who did this out? Lots of reaction. Anyone else thinking the connox could have something special on and off the ice in Tom Veylander? Yeah. Let me explain. Everybody got... He scored. He looked really comfortable on Saturday. And has, I think, most of the season. He's skating is exceptional. But he gets the one goal. I think we have it here, Ryan. 16 minutes worth of ice time. Two shots. Three attempts. One block. He was just very, very impressive. Now, on top of the school.

12:14And then, on top of what he's done this season on the ice, you can see the growth of his game. His clip, or probably his interview. I think it was after the San Jose game. He just did a great job speaking for the team. Like, it wasn't good enough. And he's just spoke so well. He was very disappointed. He was very respectful of whoever was interviewing him. I think it was a scrum situation. He seemed like a leader. I think that connects, you know. And again, very, very early. They have something here with this kid. Did you see where he was when the puck went up the ice right in front of his own goal center? Do you understand how fast he went up the ice? Yeah. Nice pass by Kane, by the way. But do you understand how fast he went up ice? Like, watch him. Right here. There he is right there. And they're going up ice and he's behind everybody. He caught him all. He's a great skater. And this is a really good draft pick. Another one where everybody said 11th overall, right shot defense. There's no right shot defense in the system. And boom, this is going to be a good pick. And you were banged on off the ice maturity level.

13:16He's a good culture guy. Skater. He's going to skate. He's going to keep in the lead for years, don't you? Yeah. No, there was a lot there. On Saturday. It was very, very entertaining. Oh. It's just like the least you can ask for. So, loosely, if you're paying money or if you're a, if you're a Leafs fan, buying a ticket, take it off a connoissee and take a holder. The least you can ask for is some entertainment entertainment. But cane with the set up there. You want that. You want, you want the vendor cane to play well. Indeed, you're going to trade him, right? Absolutely. Absolutely. How we know for time, right? Yeah, exactly. You get a good mood? No. It's happening. How's your weekend? I'm strong. I'm strong. I'm chilling. I'm chilling. Dolly will take some owls on this overtime take. But other than that, that's fine. Taking what? Why would I take out? What, what, what did I say that I would take an L? You defending at a foot? I didn't defend at a moment. The tank commander is something. I, I clearly told you why he didn't get the shifts in overtime. To me, though, if you're putting David Campbell out there, that screams to...

14:16He's a centerman, right? Someone's going to take the draw. It screams as we're trying to not lose this game. And why are you trying to not lose this game at this point? Yeah. Who cares, man? It's about to melt. Who cares? Like, I understand. You're, I strategy wise, you're, you're, you're bang on. You're, you're bang on. But like, for the future of this franchise, which we all care about, despite what some people think. Like, that would be, I, that would be... Let Kermacky should have gone to shift in overtime. At least one shift. Absolutely. I, I do agree with that. I, I also think it's mixed messages from foot. It's mixed messages from Rick. But like, you scratched, healthy scratch, Jake DeBrosque. Then there's been other guys that have clearly struggled. And look at, I know Brock Bester's dealing with what he is now. He was really struggling before his injury. I think you win 20 games without a goal. Doesn't get scratched. Hey, and he is Pederson. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Pederson's that scratch. Yeah, oh, absolutely. Yes. At least Pederson was a disaster in the overtime. Oh, my goodness. Disaster. Was he the guy on the ice? Like, on the ice?

15:16Ellie is Pederson the forward. Yeah, yeah. Yes, the forward. And so it's like, but because he's the highest paid guy, arguably number one center. Well, he is. Just keep going. Keep going. He is, he is. That's a mixed message. He's got the potential to score. But he doesn't have a goal in what nine games. Pederson doesn't have a goal in nine games. I'm sorry. Yeah. Well, I need that game. People, he's on a five game point streak. A five is what whatever the case, he's back. Ellie's just back. You know what? Like, okay. You and I were both involved in minor hockey. Yep. And ever since Rick talk, it talked about him not moving his feet. And I know we pick on him a lot. But you saw that in overtime. You've got somebody beat and you move your feet. Like, players are catching up to him. There's no separation. Yeah, the separation. And it's not even. It's not even speed. Move your feet. Donnie. Players are catching up to him in two seconds. He has no separation speed. He can't get away from that. I don't know if that's ever going to be there. But like when you draw, there wasn't time to try the net. No, but it's right though.

16:16There was a time he was back. He did separate. So what happened? Is this 10 to the nightest thing still a problem? No, he's healthy. He's a hundred percent healthy. I don't know. Like he was fast. He can't separate from players anymore. Yeah. Wait a minute. He's just, you know, he's a youngster. Eighth NHL season. Okay. You know, we're going to get the emails and texts. Not that they worry about that. Is it just me, DTMsE coming up in the 11 o'clock hour. Elliot Friedman. Yeah. From Hockey Night in Canada. And the 32th on its podcast just after 11. Did you watch the outdoor game yesterday? Oh, boy did I ever. Yeah. I was into it. And I know a lot of people knocked the outdoor games. But the massive crowd and all sorts of stories. It made me feel that it was good. Oh, the entrance is just fabulous. The best one in a long time. How about, I think we're safe and sane. I agree. And I know that people always say, well, it's more about, you know, the local audience and so what it does for that's that whatever city it's in,

17:17those outdoor games. Right. But this was one that I think captured the imagination of hockey fans everywhere. It doesn't always happen in these days. Well, first you did. Okay. So a big ride toward a guy later this hour. And up next, the Seattle Seahawks. All these storylines coming into Super Bowl 60. So there's a lot of storylines, of course, on the field. Santa Clara, California, Sunday, Seahawks versus Patriots. Here to talk about that. And more. From KGR Sports Radio and the Cracket Hockey Network. Ian Furness, how are you, sir? What's going on? What's up today? What's going on, Donnie? You're not here? You're not here. You're still. Stumbling around. Yeah, that's all right. Did I ask you this last week, are you going to Santa Clara? Yeah, no, I'm not. I'm the lone remaining man at the radio station this week. We have two cracking games, two cracking things coming up Tuesday, Wednesday. So, unable to attend and frankly, okay with that. Well, and why do you say that? You wouldn't want to go to the Super Bowl? Well, getting credentialed. When I went before, I was with the TV station with Fox. Yeah. We got credentialed and we were dialed in.

20:18I did a radio show. We did. I mean, right now I would have just finished up five hours of live shots. So it was. It was a great experience. It was a great experience. Those two times. But I don't even think anybody from our radio stations actually got credentials for in stadium. I think they're all in the workroom. So it's kind of worthless. Yeah. Well, you, you have to aren't you going to be behind the scenes engineering the sale of the Seahawks? Yeah. That's what I'm doing. Well, you're staying in. Yeah. What's going to rubber craft? What role did he play in getting that story out? Well, his son is the head of the finance committee for the NFL. I mean, it's funny. One of the guys that wrote the story texted me last night because I said something on social media about it. I said, it's not a coincidence. And, you know, I mean, all these things going on. And, you know, quite the week that Robert Kraft has had, right? He keeps Bill Belichick out of the Hall of Fame. So he can get in this year because only one of the two was going to get in. You know, and then the Seahawks sale gets somehow leaked on Friday.

21:18And, you know, I don't think the players don't really care, right? Like it's nothing to them. But I think for the staff and, you know, people working there that are reprinding away during the week. That's a distraction you don't need. But the guy that one of the guys that wrote the story, one of the many stories is out there, said, no, no, it's, it's, you know, this was kind of come out no matter what. And it had nothing to do with Kraft and New England. I just find that hard to believe. I don't know. I mean, call me crazy, but it just seems like too much of a coincidence. So by the way, good distraction. If you, good distraction, if you're Robert Kraft and you happen to be involved in certain files that are out there right now. Right. And your names floated around in that. Whatever distraction you can put out there, hold Rob. Yeah. Yeah. That would make sense. So, Siocs reportedly up for sale after Sunday. Put up for sale by the Allen family, the Allen family trust. Who's going to buy that in? Well, I mean, everyone obviously does the same thing every time that something's going on like this.

22:18And it's Jeff Bezos, Jeff Bezos, who, you know, is kind of the former now, I guess, CEO of Amazon or founder of Amazon. And, you know, he's got the financial wear with him. He lives in Florida now, though. So, I know we tried to buy the Washington commanders didn't wasn't successful in doing that. There's, there's two schools of thought around the league. One is that they really wants him involved. And the other is they don't for whatever reason. But, you know, with the Amazon Prime Monday night football, Thursday night football games. There's an obvious connection there. Steve Balmer, who owns the Clippers, who's from here. We're $141 billion. His name gets floated around there as well. So, you know, listen, you know, it's, like I said, it doesn't bother the players. But, you know, the one thing with that, that we have seen in this town. And you guys know about it all too well. Ownership matters, right? Ownership matters in sports. And it matters to the umpteenth degree, even if you don't see it every day. We've had some really poor ownership in this town over the years. George Archeris with the Mariners among other bad owners for the Mariners.

23:20Try to move the team. Ken Barroning tried to move the Seahawks did for a couple days down to the California back in 96, right? Before Paul Allen took over, we don't have to say anything more about Howard Schultz because of Sonnex. He's aren't here anymore. So, we know what bad ownership is. And since Paul Allen took over the Seahawks, you know, it's been a great run organization. Very stable organization in the front office. And I'm not just talking about the football side, but business side as well. So, yeah, I think there's always a little bit of trepidation when something like this comes up because, you know, under Paul and now Jody, his sister, who oversees the as the executor of the thing right now, and she's a de facto owner, under them, they've seen nothing but success for this organization on and off the field. So there's there's some reason to be nervous for sure. I don't not to see the team move by any stretch of the imagination, but just to just for, you know, the stability of what's going on. And I feel bad for those working in the front office that have to deal with it this week. Well, when you have success, you lose people. And it looks like the Raiders next head coach is going to be Seattle's offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak.

24:21What are your thoughts on that story? Well, good for Clint, you know, bad for Seattle. That'll be three coordinators in three years that they're going to have to have on the offensive side. It's a great job though. It's just unfortunate because it's late in the hiring cycle. You know, a lot of guys have already been scooped up along the way. There's a couple possible internal candidates, but we'll see what Mike McDonald does. I trust Mike McDonald that trust John Schneider, mostly Mike. This is a mic higher. You know, John Schneider's hire was Ryan Grubb as an offensive coordinator. He kind of forced that upon McDonald. It didn't work out after a year. And they moved on and Clint's been fantastic. But I, you know, like I said, it's unfortunate because it is so late in the game. And that kind of puts Seattle because there's some good offensive coordinator candidates that have been hired elsewhere around the leaves. Yes. But I think, you know, McDonald's done such a terrific job. It's a great job. You're working with Sam Darrell Jackson Smith and Jay, but Ken Walker would have you. It's a great job. So I'm sure they'll have some good candidates along the way. It's just unfortunate. They won't have that stability. Gotta talk about your hockey club. The four straight wins, but more importantly, these Shane Wright rumors.

25:23According to the insiders, he's going to Winnipeg. He's going here. He's going there. He's going everywhere. Who are those insiders? The insiders. You know, you know, you're an insider. You're an insider. No, I'm not. No, no, no. I'm talking to the national guys. He isn't. No, no. No, no, no. Listen, answer the question. Answer the question. Where's he going? I don't know if I knew I would tell you. I don't know. Even if I actually, if I knew, I probably couldn't tell you, but I don't know. I, I would assume what we've talked about this. I mean, you know, they're going to go into the Olympic break, even if they lose the next two in a great situation in terms of the playoff positioning. The win, the win Saturday in Vegas was massive for this team. They won four in a row. Yeah. You know, I think with Shane, you know, they're going to want to, he's their biggest chip because there's that upside there, right? And you can, you can probably pry somebody away from a playoff contending team right now. And, and they need some scoring, especially on the wing. I, they really do need that.

26:23I think Freddie Gidrow is not a fourth line center. He's higher than that. They can bump him up in the middle. And, you know, when Berkeley Catten comes back after the break, you know, I think they like him on the wing so far. So there's a lot there, but they need to find a high scoring wing or if they're truly going to be a team that makes the postseason this season and does any kind of damage. And, you know, yeah, Winnipeg is that, was that who's Winnipeg? What's the rumor for him there? Uh, who is the rumor there? I got a double triple check. Oh, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I mean, I think Jane Schwartz is a guy that's a potential guy to get move to. Wow. They got to sign. Everly, they got to resize some of these guys. Well, I think Alexiac, I think of the guys that are going to be UFA's. I think my guess just just a guess. I would say that Alexiac and Schwartz are guys at the top of the list. guys that you would move, I think you want to keep Aberley as your captain, Toulvin, and I think they really

27:24like. I think they'll try to keep him. So I think those two guys to be candidates as well as Shane. We'll see. I, you know, it's it. Listen, all joking aside, it's a big, big few weeks as we get out of the, I think what's the shutdown in terms of the, you can't do anything after Wednesday. So I would expect it to be quiet. But I think it's huge for Jason Botrill. I think he's going to have a, he's got some, some pressure on him. This, this organization wants to make the playoffs ownership, playoffs are a priority. And so he's going to have to do something. Okay, back to Sunday, the Arnold versus May, Seahawks Patriots, who wins? Well, all the money's on Seattle. Like, like, I do my show with sponsor by a good friends, it's no comic casino and sportsbook. And I was just talking to the sports book manager on Friday, we're doing a show up there. And he's like, he's just kind of, he's like, all the money's on Seattle, they opened up his three and a half. Yeah, last I checked it with six, six and a half. Six. It's a big number. And you know, it's, here's a thing. It's two teams that were, you

28:25know, it's a teams that were what, two and three in terms of scoring offenses in the NFL this season. And they were one and four in terms of scoring defenses. I mean, what, what has to give, right? I mean, it's a great matchup on paper. I think New England's not getting its just due. To be honest with you, I think there's a lot of people sleeping on this. New England's defense is legit under Mike Vrable. I think Seattle's a football team top to bottom. I think what happened here was, um, there was some conversations, uh, right before Christmas. And one of the things I think is that Bill Haslam was a new owner, was kind of going around and, and discovering, okay,

53:21what do I need to do, uh, learn about being in the NHL? Uh, what do I need to understand about this league? Um, how is it like, you know, his family, like his brother, own sports teams, the Cleveland Browns, the Columbus crew. So I think there's some understanding about how other leagues work, but how does the NHL work? And I think he'd spend a lot of time doing that. And, uh, one of the things they kind of looked at was, you know, Barry, I think was, was getting to be in a position where he was going to retire after next year. And I think that once they kind of got together and started discussing all of this, the decision was made to start the process early. Now I watched the press conference today. It confirmed a couple of things that I heard. Number one, this wasn't health related. Uh, number two, Barry Trots is not looking to coach anywhere else. And, uh, number three, um, you know, I think the other thing there too is that they are comfortable leaving Barry Trots

I think they were considering that idea, uh, even before this had happened, uh, when the events had decided to hire somebody. And who would be a strong candidate to replace him in Nashville? Well, I'll, I'll say this, Don, like, I think there is a ton of interest in this job. Like this story broke four and a half hours ago. I can't tell you how many people I've heard from just saying, like, how's this all going to work? There's been no progress with BC place. The scheduling is bad for the white caps done. They never get any dates. They're like, okay, well, here's 41 dates for 35 home games. That's it. You cannot, you got billionaire owners in MLS.

What about the Lions? So BC Lions. So why don't they have the same complaints? They don't have the schedule. They don't have nine home games and I believe their payroll is not even close to the white caps.
