And Quint Taylor is sitting in the producer's chair. It's just too bad. There's nothing to talk about on this Friday show. Like, I've struggled a lot, Rick, to talk about this. Oh, boy. Find things to talk about. But there's just nothing going on right now. Nothing at all. Same as the first Wednesday. Same as the first metal round game. You know, the preliminary games Canada Outscore teams 20 to 3. Yeah. As soon as the metal round starts, you know, you throw, it gets tougher. And check here. Boy, they gave Canada a scare. The Finns are doing it today. Yeah. Canada doesn't have Sydney Crosby. But the Finns, they don't have Alexander Barkoff,

2:02who's one of the best centers in the National Hockey League. And they are giving Canada a scare to-to late in the third. Yeah. If you haven't been paying attention this morning, I'm not sure why. But the Finns went out to a two-nothing lead. Against Canada. The second goal was a controversial one, because it was a, it was a shorthanded goal for Eric Hala. He made it to nothing. Sam Reinhardt, not the best play he's made of all time. He lost the puck. So there was a lot of people ripping into Sam Reinhardt, which made it to nothing again, Finland. And then now Sam Reinhardt was actually the one that tied it to one. So now we have a finished power play with two and a half minutes left. No, it's Canadian power play. Canadian power play. You got a two minutes left, a Canadian power play. Are you kidding me? Yeah. My god. Oh. Yeah. So again, it was two-nothing, Finland, Canada rallies back.

3:03Shay Thidor was the one that tied the game. Two-two with nine minutes left to go in the third period. It's essentially been all Canada since Finland went up to nothing. Which you can understand why. I mean, Finland was playing a more defensive style. I mean, they already played a defensive style, but they were really shutting it down when it was two-nothing. And they were trying to... It was the checks. Yeah, it was very similar. Very similar. And you want to win the game two-one. Yeah. But here's Canada with the power play. Two-thirty-five left. Yeah. And this celebrity kid today. Yeah. I mean, it's just ridiculous. Ricky doesn't have a point yet in this game. Doesn't matter. But the amount of chances he has had. What are you doing? Yeah. You know, he's 19. Yeah. He's already got seven shots, I think. He leads all players. He led all Canadian players with 60 minutes of ice. After two parrots, he's 19 years old. I know. And he's hanging with McKinnon and McDavid. Well, and... And the other thing is, is he's being leaned on by arguably the greatest coach

4:06the NHL has had since 2000. Yeah. You know, I mean, John Cooper is an outstanding coach. He's leaning all... I know. And the other factors, you bring up the Crosby injury. And if you don't know, Sydney Crosby didn't play today. Nathan McKinnon, he might be at 50% with the way he's moving around out there. He's still trying to do as much as he can do. But he's clearly banged up. But the chemistry that Celebrenia and McDavid have had, Rick. It's... And the other thing about Maclin that hasn't been talked about enough, I don't think, he earned his spot on this team. It wasn't like it was an injury replay. He was named to this team. One of the early, early calls. Yeah. And today, special teams have played a big role. The Finns got a power play goal, a short end of goal. Canada has a power play goal. And power play again here. But five on five, it's been tough to score. Yeah, it really has. It was a battle round. Much like in Czechia. And by the way, our friend Jeff Patterson pointed it out. Much like with the women as well. I mean, the women's game yesterday.

5:06Five on five is tough. It's tough. I mean, there's not a lot of time in space. In the middle round, the checking is increased big time. These coaches don't want to seven, six games. No, one, two, one games. Well, in some of these countries, again, like Finland has obviously some offensive talent, but that they Finland, Czechia, you see them play it. I even thought Sweden the other day against the states was playing more defensive than I expected, especially after they tied it late. Oh, Canada just scored. No, 35 seconds to go. I got it. I think it's Nathan McKinnon. McKinnon. I'm 22 behind. Yeah. Queen streaming it. And we're watching on cable. So Canada just scored with 35 seconds to go to make it 3-2. Oh. Yeah, it's Nathan McKinnon. So we were just talking about him, not at 100%. But there's a massive moment from Nathan McKinnon, obviously, in this tournament. And with 35 seconds to go, Canada is now up 3-2. Wow. And here's what I like. Against Czechia, Canada was down 3-2, 7 minutes to go. Finland, down to nothing.

6:07They're showing a lot of character coming back. Yeah. In the middle round, it is hard to come back. And these guys are not quitting. They've been down by a goal, 7 minutes to go, down by 2 today. What? And they outshot the Finns, 14-3 in that second period when they were down. To nothing. And boy, oh boy. There's no quit. There's no quit. And you brought this up, break, too. You know, like, I'm sorry, that prelim round. There's no tests really in that. Like Czechia, that was their first game. Bit of a scare, not much. You don't face adversity. And so then it's like, when adversity gets dropped, when adversity gets dropped on you, you know, late like this, it's a tough thing to deal with. It looks like there's some kind of review going on at the moment, by the way, on this 3-2 goal. I'm not sure what they're reviewing because it's definitely not... It was the end. Goaltender interference. Yeah, I don't know. Queens bring it up. There's a coach's challenge right now by Finland. So I'm not sure what is being challenged. If it's being challenged for an offside, it's not goaltender interference because there was nobody near UC Soros.

7:07So I'm not sure. Yeah, it is Finland is challenging offside prior to the goal, which happened to minute or so before. That would have been great before. And this is one of the things Ray Ferrero has brought up a lot, Ray, in the NHL. Do you have to have some kind of time limit on a challenge? Like, I mean, how many things have gone on in the time since they entered illegally? Yeah, I know you could argue that, of course, that is the starting point. So, you know, this looks dicey. This looks dicey. I'm not sure exactly who is in the middle of the ice. That might be offside. This Celebrini's closest to us, but I'm not sure. It's McKinnon right there. Yeah, I don't necessarily see the puckfully. So that's going to be one of the tough things that they're going to have to decide right now. But they are challenging for offside at the moment. So they have to challenge. Yeah, I mean, you take a shot. It's close enough. It's close enough. Let me tell you, I wish there was a coach's challenge on the Czechia goal with too many men in the other day. And by the way, if you missed this earlier on in the game,

8:08sometimes the hockey gods Rick are sick. Because the first penalty of today's game was Canada charged with too many men. Too many men? I mean, like, that's like an SNL thing. Ridiculous. Ridiculous. But yeah, they were charged with the too many men. There was no goal on that penalty this morning. But yeah, they were charged with too many men basically right off the start of the game today, which was just hilarious. By the way, Rick, the history of Finland, Canada games at the Olympics involving NHL players. This courtesy Chris Johnston. They've been all tight games. Two one overtime game. Two nothing game. Two one game. Three two game. All very, very tight games between Canada and Finland. At the Olympics involving NHL players yet. Oh, here we go. They're going to make an announcement right now. And we'll see. They've got a good goal. Yes. Good goal. Good goal. 35 seconds to go. I don't know how many IOC rules were breaking by the way, but doing this like live play by play. But we should also mention coming out of this game.

9:08Is Connor McDavid officially broke the record for most points. At an Olympics by a Canadian men's player. So, I mean, he's had a whale of a tournament and it just keeps going on. I mean, the place he makes, man, it just. It seems like he is on like turbo mode. Like if you were playing sports NHL. Like the face, the pace he gets up to is ridiculous. And both Canadian goals today by Laura mainland kids. We have men, you know, Sam Reinhart, who, you know, was extra forward today. Yeah. And he kind of, you know, gave the puck away on Finland, short-hand a goal. He comes back, scores a beautiful powerful goal at deflection. A very nice deflection of a shot by McCarr. And then she theater from all the growth. So, a couple of, Laura mainland kids scoring two of the goals for Canada today. Well, we were just talking about Maclin, so the Reeny Rick. And he just picked up his first goal, our first point of the game. Sorry.

10:08So, there's another connection to BC and North Vancouver. Is Maclin, so the Reeny got credited with an assist on that Nathan McKinnon goal. McDavid got the other assist. Finland was assessed a penalty, by the way, because of the failed coaches challenge. Much like in the NHL. They failed coaches, coach a challenge. You get a, you get a, you get assessed a penalty. So, I think we're down to 20 seconds maybe here. But I believe there is an offensive zone face-off in a moment here. We should run down the show. I'm just going to do that quickly before this game concludes. So, in our next segment, likely, maybe 10-30 is going to be Thomas Drantz, as usual, from the Athletic and Sports at 6.50. Rick, 11 o'clock. Yes, we're soaring. And White Cat said coach. The cat's home opener tomorrow against Real Salt Lake. But more importantly, this morning, the cat's announcing a contract extension for Jesper Swanson. Well, deserved. I mean, arguably the best, the most well deserved contract extension handed out in this city. I mean, what that guy did outside of winning the full prize last year with this team coming in so late. Yeah.

11:08Truly incredible. So, Jesper's going to join us at around 11 o'clock to reflect on that. Also talk about the season getting underway. We should also mention Rick after we were off the air yesterday. Unfortunately, the U.S. did defeat Canada on the women's side. 2-1 in O.T. to win the gold medal. 3-on-3 over time. 3-on-3 over time. 3-on-3 over time. I hate it, by the way. I hate it. I don't know when that, I think it changed for the 22 games. It did. It did. Crosby's going. It was 4-on-4. I can stomach 4-on-4. 3-on-3, I can't. No gold medal game should be 3-on-3. I'm sorry. And I'm not just saying this because Canada lost to the States. I'd be saying it anyway. In fact, I said it the other day before the game was even played. I don't like it. I just don't like the feel of the whole thing. It shouldn't be 3-on-3. Maybe that gets changed. But the U.S. defeated Canada 2-1 yesterday. Megan Keller with the winner. And we got another bronze medal today. Right. Valerie Malte won bronze in the 1,500-meter speed skating. Third medal of the Olympics for her. She's had a whale of an Olympic. She might be the Canadian flag bearer in the closing ceremonies,

12:09which is coming up on Sunday. Also coming up on Sunday will be that gold medal game at 5am. Oh, my God. Look at this. And look at this. Canada will be playing in that gold medal game. As they've now punched their ticket, they win very, very late chance by Finland. Not too dangerous, but very late chance by Finland. And Canada looks as though it's punched their ticket. 3-2 win over Finland. Let's give the Finns credit here. The same is the chance. They had Canada, you know, on the ropes, both teams. And you know, the Finns are playing without... We can't tell you enough about Alexander Barker. You're so right, Rick. Who's one of the best 200 feet centers? Yeah. You know, up for the selfie every year. Yeah. Big part of their Stanley Cup winning teams. Canada didn't have Sydney Crosby today, but they didn't have Barker. And, you know, they did give the Finns credit for pushing Canada today. But the good guys win again and off to the gold medal game. Yeah. So, and you know what? There was a few people that were, you know,

13:09saying they're, you know, definitely Canada is going to be there. They're going to put some time back on the clock here. It looks like. So, this game, I think it's 1.3 seconds. Oh, great. I just tweeted Canada one. Oh, wow. Let me tell you. And I don't agree with this because Bennington made a save, but he dumped that puck out very quickly out of his gloves. So, they got it in the same... 1.3 seconds left. Quick whistle. Yeah, 1.3 seconds left. So, hopefully we have not just committed the worst move in broadcast history. Like you retreated it. You retreated it. Oh, and me out of the box. Okay, let's watch the last. Yeah, 1.3 seconds left. I'm going to lose it. Yeah, I'll lose it. I mean, I think a lot of Canada will be losing it. Yeah. So, let's see what happens here. There you go. It's over, it's over, there you go. So, Canada has punched their ticket to the gold medal game, Rick. And, you know, there was a lot of people before the tournament started that I think thought they were going to walk through this thing. Yeah, wow. And look at the... Hockey now, the gaps in hockey are just not what they once were. I think the game has never been better across all of the countries.

14:11And you brought this up before the show, Rick. No Russia. No Russia at this tournament. That's a factor at four nations. You know, it's a factor here. No Russia. But you're seeing Finland really strong. Look, it's Slovakia. That's coming up at noon. Slovakia in the USA. Switzerland is coming on. Switzerland is well. Absolutely. Hockey's a world sport now. It's just not a few countries that are doing well. The Americans are coming on. In a big way. In a big way. Go look at the NHL draft every year. How many 10-11 kids are going from the US development program? Yeah. And, you know, a lot of countries are catching up to Canada in terms of hockey. But they're good guys won today. Oh, one of the things about the women, by the way, that is astonishing. Look, when you're talking about the US catching up, Rick, the states now going back to last year's rivalry series have won the last eight games against Canada on the women's side. They have their number. So, you know, there's some question marks there. But, you know, women picked up a silver medal.

15:12Obviously not what they wanted. But they picked up a silver yesterday against the states. Canada today, if you're just tuning in right now. Yeah. Just beat came back. They were down to nothing against Finland. Dollywall was writing up notes on a summit. I saw his notes he was saying they were going to be a summit. But Canada rallies comes from behind and beats Finland 3-2 in regulation to go and punch their ticket to the gold medal game, which happens if you don't know 5 a.m. R-time, 5-10, specifically R-time, on Sunday morning, much like in Russia, at Sochi, 5 a.m. R-time is the gold medal game. The United States takes on Slovakia and noon R-time later today. The winner of that game will face Canada in this gold medal game, Rick. I might see in this rate celebrate any 25 minutes of ice. That's incredible. That's incredible. I mean, I see the exact same statistic as you, which is the leader amongst forwards. 28 minutes and 8 shots on goal.

16:12Very similar to Conor McDavid. Conor McDavid also 25. The kid is 8 in 19 years old. There it is, Conor McDavid, 25 minutes. That whole line with McKinnon, they got the winner. Yeah. But boy oh boy, you know, unbelievable. What this celebrity kid has done at this world stage and he's only 19. And by the way, this has been outstanding as well. If you've been watching these games, John Cooper meeting with the team at the bench. At the bench. Right at the conclusion. Part of this is because due to Olympic protocols, the players go from the ice to the mix zone. They don't necessarily where they do their interviews. They don't go to the locker room right away. So John Cooper, and then he has to do his interviews. So Cooper, it's going to be quite a while before he actually meets with his team. So he's been doing these little meetings on the bench. It's just great. Which we never get to see. You never get to see that. We're obviously in the NHL. But seeing him talk to these guys, and the way they're all dialed in is also been incredible. But amazing stuff from Canada today.

17:13You know, gut check performance. There was a lot of people talking about a lack of scoring, you know, amongst this roster. What's going on? Who's going to provide more goals? Look, you're not going to win 7-6. These are all tight checking close games. Yeah. Who's winning 7-6 in the middle round? Nobody. Look at the US and Sweden yesterday. 2-1. If 5-on-5 goals are hard to come by, nobody's going to score 4-5 points in a game. You know, this is the middle round, Ryan. Yep. I mean, they're not 9-8 games. They're 2-1-3-2. And that's the bottom line. It's hard to score. And we will see what happens with Sydney Crosby on Sunday. He was obviously day-to-day. We'll see if John Cooper says anything post-game now. I will be very surprised, Rick. If Sunday, we don't see 87 in the Canadian lineup. Well, you know, we don't know the extent of it. We don't know the extent of it. We tried this morning to skate. Well, Elliot Friedman, by the way, if you missed that, he reported that they were trying to build a custom brace. They were trying to do everything possible to get Sydney Crosby in the lineup today.

18:13But that just was not going to happen. Unfortunately, so he had to miss the game. And we'll see what happens on Sunday. We will continue to break it down, of course, now. Thomas trans from the athletic and sports that 6.50 joining us as he does every Friday. Thomas, how are you, sir? What? I don't think I'm well. Yeah. No, I mean, what a game. What an unbelievable performance from Team Canada. There's something in those jerseys like that team can't be killed right now. Supereduction. So we're going to go through this. You know? A lot of things that. It got to be. Feeling pretty bulletproof. There's almost nothing you can throw at this group. Surely that's going to have them thinking they can't find a way. Really incredible. I mean. I didn't think they had a lot of forwards who were having good games for about 40 minutes to be totally honest with you, gentlemen. I thought the finish defensive effort was sensational. You know, the way that. Guys like Nico Mika and obviously Miro Hayeskin and were just sort of murdering plays off that they were harassing, McDavid especially, but all of the Canadian forwards through the neutral zone.

21:20There was no easy ice for Canada. Couple of mistakes end up in the back of the Canadian net. And I mean, honestly, at that point, it felt pretty grim. And you get the tip goal from Reinhardt, a great play, Kilmacar. I'm pretty confident with shooting for his stick there. Like, I think he called Bank. He might have said it on the ice. I wonder if they can find that replay. But that was a brilliant piece of work from Kilmacar to make it a surmountable deficit. And then Brad Martian, man, like ice water in his veins. All it pushes them on UC Soros. And, you know, that desperation that he showed to scamper off of the goal tender. And then you can see him take the extra step back. Like the extra step back, no goal interference. That was an incredible amount of urgency. That's elite hockey awareness, flat out. I know we usually use the idea of like a clutch play or elite awareness to describe an excellent pass or an exceptional goal. But that was a lead awareness at the net front in a position to make sure as the puck went back up high

22:21and any goal scored by Canada would stand. And then it's celebrating on the wall, like the retrievals that McDavid, Celebrini, and McKinnon collected on that extended five on four sequence, right? A whole minute and 58 seconds brilliant piece of work by McDavid to keep that play on side critically. And just the way like Celebrini was all around it all game. It felt unfair, frankly, that he didn't have multiple goals in this game. But those three combine magically at the end of, you know, what is it? I guess 118 second power play shift that might be one of the most impressive five on four sequences. I've ever seen an hockey flat out, especially when you adjust for the stakes in the moment and what that meant to avoid three on three, a coin flip scenario in the semifinals against Finland. I mean, that is as cool as ruthless, as persistent a five on four shift as you're ever going to see, I repeat it.

23:21I mean, unbelievable. What an unbelievable game. Tom, it's just a backup. You're celebrating thoughts there. I'm looking at a tweet from Chris Johnson. He played the final 1802 of the final 40 minutes, lead team high 25 minutes, 53 seconds, nice time in eight shots on goal. And Chris points it out. He uses the proper word for the teenager. It's ridiculous. Like it is, it's incredible. And he doesn't seem phased in the slightest. Like none of these moments have swallowed him at all. No, this is freak show stuff. I mean, this is really, really special. And think about all those pox that, you know, would hit him in the skate, but he'd still find a way to get puck on stick. Or the pass wouldn't go off and it would end up on a finished defender's stick. But quick stick lift and he gets the shot. He gets the look. I mean, it's not as if he's just working to find open space and playing selflessly and being a decoy. You know, he's winning these battles outright. He's fully checked and finding a way

24:22to get a scoring chance off as he falls. You know, he's sneaking by a defender, getting position, lifting the stick and maintaining possession here. I mean, this is incredibly detailed stuff. You know, and that's why you get the Sydney Crosby cops, right? Because that's the elite grinder stuff that Sydney Crosby always did, right? The amount of control that he's able to exercise, you know, over the sort of range that he's in. And then you combine it with this sort of apparently un, or sorry, it's a ceaseless motor. I mean, it's his motor is always running and with pace and effort, he's closing gaps like crazy. So he's expanding the range of the game in which he can control. I mean, I thought he was sensational. I thought he would have been sensational winner lose. But to have the retrieval that sets up the McKinnon goal, right? The McDavid to McKinnon interplay. I mean, that's just sort of the cherry on top of a remarkably workman like mature performance from a player who still would have been eligible

25:23to play at the World Junior Championships this year. You know, we're talking about the preliminary round at Canada, I would score teams 20 to three and look at the medal round. Look at the medal round. Unbelievable now pushed by the fins. And they're not there without Alexander Barkoff. A guy you know from your days in Florida, who's one of the best two way centers in the national hockey league. Like these guys, the fins without their best player, they had a hell of a tournament. I mean, Finland was clearly the third best true talent team in this tournament, they performed like it throughout. I think they could have taken down Canada today. Obviously we saw it. It took something pretty remarkable for Canada to get back in that game. And frankly, I thought they could have given the US a real run for their money. That team is deep, that team is fast. And then the defense that they played tonight was incredible. I mean, that was an incredible team defensive effort. I'd add this like at the four nations last year,

26:23they didn't have hay skin in. This year they don't have Barkoff. And man, you know, it would have been a lot of fun to see what they could have done. If they could have loaded up, you know, their toughest matchups that Canada and the US can throw at them with Barkoff and Hayeskin on the ice at all moments. Right? Like it's, it's a real shame that we got treated to two phenomenal best on best international tournaments in a two year span and didn't get to see Finland have a chance to ice, you know, a defenseman that's clearly one of the three best in the world and a defensive forward who is peerless. Right? Among his NHL counterparts in terms of his defensive impact. It's really too bad that Finland didn't have a chance to stick those two on McDavid and on Eichel and on some of the best in the world because I think it would have been a ton of fun to watch. You know, that said, Canada's missing Crosby and they're missing Braden Point too. Right? Like it's not just the Crosby injury. It's that it compounds Canada's down two guys who've been point per game plus across the last three, four seasons.

27:26So, you know, like this game was so sick, so much fun. We'll remember it forever and the idea that it could have been even more fun if it had Crosby and Barkov in it, right? Is something to at least note and acknowledge because those two, you know, they deserved this kind of stage as well. Let's look ahead to Sunday. Obviously, I mean, I'm sure I personally would love to see the Americans in the gold medal game, you know, after what we saw at the four nations. But regardless of who they play, what is Canada have to do to win that gold on Sunday? Yeah, and so there were some things I didn't love about Canada's approach today that now don't really matter and no one wants to hear about Rick, right? But I'm going to do it anyway because, you know, that's what I do on your program. Couple things that I was a little bit worried about with Canada's approach today. I didn't think they were disciplined enough about their self-matching. They're pretty dependent on the McDavid Line to generate their looks, their quality scoring chances. And yet, there's too many McDavid shifts

28:26where he ends up on the ice with, you know, Peraco or Sanheimer Doudi or two of them. And, you know, Sanheim had an awesome game. Peraco, like the moment there was 37 seconds left, right? And Canada's leading. It's like, that's Peraco time, right? Like that's one of the best defensive defense men if not the outright best defensive defense men in hockey. But there are limitations in terms of his puck handling up high and some of the interchanges that Canada can pull off when it's hardly on the ice or Theodore on the ice or Taves on the ice or McCarr on the ice that, you know, look a little bit more labored, look a little bit slower with those three gentlemen up high. So I want to see them make sure that the McDavid minutes are played with one of those for, you know, more skilled defenders. I think they could do a better job in that area. One thing I've really liked, however, about Canada's approach and I think they'll do it again against the United States and we'll have to. And I think it's why they've gotten better as some of these games have gone on. Is Cooper starts with sort of a fatter lineup, right? A deeper lineup. And effectively he's like the Joker in, you know,

29:28the dark night he's like breaking a pool queue in half, right? And saying we're holding triodes. And then everyone who's not Suzuki Stone Marner, right? Which is obviously the second line. And McDavid McKinnon Celebrini, which is three heart tropey candidates who when they combine play supersonic hockey at a speed we've never seen. Everyone else on the roster is effectively in a triode mode to be the third line for the rest of the game, right? For the second half of the game, whoever is going the three best guys among the latter seven forwards in this lineup, they're in an audition to see who makes up the third line. And today, you know, we saw it, Marsha and Wilson and Suzuki, or sorry, Marsha and Wilson and Bennett end up sort of turning this game with that excellent shift that leads to the Shea Theodore goal, right? And it's the, in the other game, it was Jarvis and Horvette, right? With Hagel, who ended up being huge for Team Canada as they outlasted the checks. So it's a really interesting approach from Cooper.

30:31I like seeing that. And I think they'll need to do that again as for the sort of specifics of the United States or Slovakia. You know, Slovakia is a real threat in terms of the power play, especially. Daborsky, Slavkovsky and Nemech have just been cooking teams with those three up high. So that's a huge, like that's going to be a huge point of emphasis. Stay out of the box. It played discipline hockey. No running the goalie, Sam Bennett in the event that Canada ends up playing Slovakia. And if it's the United States, I mean, that's a totally different animal. And I'm a little conflicted. You want to see the US? I also want to see the US. If we get to see this US roster play this team Canada roster, I mean, that's the best hockey we'll see this season. And by a lot, right? But on the other hand, I mean, I think this US team is really scary. I think they take away time and space. They're deeper than Canada is. They might be faster than Canada is. They're certainly bigger than Canada is. So they pose a huge threat in terms of their defensive game. You know, I think against the United States, the key is put them in a position where they have to score. You got to get that early lead. We've seen the United States have more issues

31:34manufacturing offense than Canada, right? What wise Canada been able to pull this out of the fire in consecutive games? They've got guys manufacturing goals. They've got martyrs, they've got. And Team USA has exceptional players too, but they look so focused and dangerous offensively with Quinn Hughes and Zach Werenzky on the ice and sort of look a little bit less dangerous in the other minutes. They remind me a little bit of the 2014 team Canada at Sochi, right? Where there's this overwhelming two-way force, but can they translate their dominance of play into goals is sort of the question that they'll have to answer against Canada. So for me, anyway, it's like the first goal is going to be everything. You do not want to be chasing the game the way Canada has against Czechia and against Finland in a gold medal game against the United States. You want to put the pressure on them to manufacture offense because there've been times in this tournament, certainly against Sweden, where they've struggled to extend leads or they've struggled to get on the board in the first place.

32:36Shocker Quinn Hughes addition to the USA roster has been big since what happened with four nations. He is really good. Yeah, exactly. Well, Thomas, I know, like I said, you're so dedicated, you'll be up at four, prepped ready to go on Sunday morning, ready for that gold medal game, 5 a.m. our time, Canada, and 2B determined, and we'll break it all down with you next week. And kidding aside, I mean, when they went down to nothing and the way the Finns were defending, even though there was a lot of runway to go. Obviously, there was a lot of game to go and all of that. But the way the Finns were defending and the way that the talk has... Drenches kind of touched on it. The talk, Rick, about the scoring with Canada, you know, and although Suzuki tied it in Marner one it against Czechia. The worry of, well, if it ain't McDavid, McKinnon or Sothebredini, who's scoring and you add on the Crosby injury, him not playing today. All of that coming into it, there was a massive, a massive, what are we gonna be talking about if Finland wins this game? And Canada's playing for a bronze medal. Are we gonna be talking about the snubs to the roster? Are we gonna be talking about all these sorts of things? So the way they've been able, the way they were able to pull that out of the fires, Thomas just said.

37:41Yes, yes. I mean, I think that's what makes people go, okay, well, even if they go down against Slovakia or the United States, well, 60 minutes, they got 60 minutes and then some, you know, as we saw against Czechia, they went to overtime and then some. So, you know, that maybe gives us a little bit of comfort, you know, with Canada. I just love the fact that the last two games have been down and as you mentioned, but they don't give up. And it's hard. It's, you know, you talked about, okay, only one line scoring for Canada. Well, Ryan, these aren't seven, six games. No, not nine, eight games. No. It's tight, tough, hockey, time and space. Five on five is hard to score. Four, how many of the goals today were special teams? We, I think. I think three. Sweden and Switzerland will be in the gold medal game, which I believe happens on Sunday if I have that correct. The men's side for curling, Rick. Reached the final of the Conker Caps Champions Cup the MLS Cup and of course won the Canadian Championship for the Caps as well. So an amazing first year for Jesper but we brought him we take this before the show and we talked about his contract extension and how excited an honor he was to have that announced by the Caps today. 55:21assignment to make it even better but and for me that's not what it's about the way these competitions are built you cannot plan for winning them you can you can only plan for putting yourself in positions and I think that's that's what we did last year and then we had the opportunity to go all the way I I believe I'm a strong believer in in the way we play and how we do things and that's the reason that we get the results and the players commitments and and then you have sometimes seasons where everything clicks in and you get extraordinary results and then you have other seasons where maybe it's a little bit below but it's still good and and I hope that we we can build a solid foundation and and then put ourselves in position to to get all the way and and then let's see if we can take it up a notch from last season it's not gonna be easy but of course that's our ambition and that's how we why we work all all day right? Yes for you know Thomas Mueller didn't join the team to August last year but this

Yeah you know it's always great when you have new challenges right and and last year I came over I didn't know much about the league and how the league worked and what all the traveling stuff and then all of a sudden you have a completely new season and and it's it's very different from what it was last year so we will see how we manage it's gonna be busy we are participating in four tournaments and especially after the World Cup it's gonna be a busy schedule but yeah that's also why it's you you think that you can plan a lot but all of a sudden things happen and and then the plans go out though you have to throw them out and do new and that's how it's been a coach and that's also some of the things that's very fun and and you know challenging about it.
