0:00Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Dolly podcast. Catch the show Monday through Friday, 10am to noon on check. You're going to want to hear this. Your local sports coverage lives here. To not think it's over. Not so fast, coho breath with John Taylor. I say that the winner of the draft lottery should be the winner of a two man loose. And Rick Dolly wall. I had a cherry tree up a little Ricky. I used to go up that tree and just sit there for hours and bunch on those cherry. Years Donnie and Dolly. 10 o'clock at downtown Vancouver in the Paul Carson studio. Thanks more than ever for tuning in folks. It's Donnie Dolly, the team on check. Don Taylor along with Rick Dolly wall. Ryan Henderson is our producer. He's the man at the controls. Our director. The voice of God is Derek one.

1:01There's not a soul in the world watching this show right now. I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say that. I would. Well, Ryan makes the point. He believes that the majority of people Canada just tied it. Yeah. Three three. My lord. Oh. So. Just in case. Just in case you forgot the game was on. We'll remind you. Three twenty seven left. Canada has just scored on the brink of elimination. Look who scored it. I believe it's Nick Suzuki on the tip. And I say look who scored it because he missed an empty net in the center. It hit it. It's the post. So go on a next Suzuki who hasn't had the greatest tournament. But right now. He's in position to become. I would say a Canadian hero again three three. Still some time left in the third period. Then you've got the three on three ten minute overtime. And then a shootout. And Lord knows what could happen. But I hate this.

2:01I don't. I don't. I mean, I love watching hockey. I don't. I'm not so sure. I love watching team Canada at an important event like this. It is hard. It's exercise, man. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. And especially when you're down and with seven minutes to go. And Donnie, we knew that Chechi was going to be much better. Much stronger. And the first game where Canada beat him five nothing in the first game of the tournament. We knew they were going to come back. This was not going to be a five nothing game. This is the quarter finals. Everyone ups their game, the compete level. And they got two defensemen today that are just playing unbelievable, including a Vancouver connect Phillip Roneck who's been. I've got her on a cat last time I checked close to 28 minutes of ice time. And him and Radis. Radik Kutis. Radik Kutis as well. Kutis has another reason. That's cool. Yeah. He has. There's another reason why he's front and center right now.

3:01Not only because of his ice time, but second period. He hit Sidney Crosby. And I, my read on it is that Crosby had his leg tucked under him. And he hasn't played. He left, went to the dressing room and that that was it. It was a dirty hit. But Crosby left it. I got to say this as we continue to watch the game on our monitor that's here. But I look at this Crosby injury. And I look at what happened with Kevin Fiala. Yep. And the candidates game against the Swiss and that collision with Tom Wilson. And I wonder what this is going to mean because this is Sidney Crosby. We're talking about a star in Kevin Fiala. The Los Angeles Kings have a big, big voice around the National Hockey League. And I wonder what this is going to mean for international competitions. Not necessarily the Olympics, but maybe the World Cup. Do you need that? Do you need that event? What is, what are NHL executives and owners going to say when things like this happen? They're not going to like it. On top of, we already know they don't like, they don't like the break, right?

4:06Stopping, they're halting their business for two weeks every two years. So we'll see what happens. But interesting. And so Canada, the whole nation, I would think, somewhat breathing a sigh of relief thanks to the Nick Suzuki goal. Rick, I didn't get it. Do you know who took a shot from the point? I believe it was. Hold on a sec. Yeah. Number seven, right there. Okay. So it was the Long Taves. It was Taves from Habesburg. Yeah. Habesburg. Yes, or three? So three, three, there's 150 left in the, in the third period. Okay. You know what guys? I think at some point we have to realize that not everybody's watching this show right now. But of course, Ryan Henderson, are you able to chime in here? Yeah. That's not a problem because the majority of people on this planet, or at least in Canada, have several monitors. Not several. No. You said two or three.

5:06I said two. But okay, in their home, yes, but you're saying in one room, like a man cave. Yeah. You do. I have three. I have three. You have a man cave. Yeah. But of course, the argument would be, well, a lot of people who watch on their laptops or phones. Well, you're saying the majority of people have in a room like a man cave or a living room more than one. I think if you're a hardcore sports person, I don't. By the way, I can't afford it. But monitors are like 200 bucks. You can get monitors for super cheap. And don't tell me 200 bucks is a lot. You go on all over the globe with these rich, exotic vacations of yours. You got money. You're fine. I think if you're a hardcore sportsman, but it is a debate. Laptop iPad. Does that count as a second screen? Because that's what's happening today, guaranteed. Are you aware that you can go from channel to channel on your television? Yeah, but that's... Do people stop pitcher and pitcher, by the way? I don't know, actually. Yeah.

6:06There's a lot of... See, a lot of the streamers now will offer you like a multi-view. Yeah. Where you can have like multiple games. I tell you, a great player as we get off the subject here. A great player for... As I state the obvious here. A great player... And this is going to hurt Vancouver fans. Yeah. For the church. For the church, yeah. Is... Is natious. You just had a break when we stopped by Jordan Bennington. But... And I say it hurts for connect fans because there's all those reports and rumours that the connects could have acquired him for us. It was close. It was close, I'm telling you. From Carolina. But he is... He is a force to be reckoned with. And you know, you think about that great Colorado team right now. Yeah. And boy, just watching the... The natious has been as good or better than Nathan McKinnell. The Nathan McKinnell score in this game. I should mention that. Can I jump in first set? Yeah. And so you wonder how many people are watching the Star of the Show? We had... We had... We had a few at the start and we only had like one text at the bottom.

7:08So that kind of tells you how you need to know about how people are dialed into the... About the difficult. Oh, we're dialed into the beginning of the show and we weren't on the air. But we are now. We are now. Everything's running and moving. Well in case you missed it, we had a great call of the Nick Suzuki goal in the moment. And it's... I'm trying to think about the last time I was in a position like this doing a broadcast when you know not a soul is watching. As a matter of fact, it might have been yesterday. I don't think it's a soul. I think people have more than one TV at home and they're flipping back and forth. Looks like we're going overtime. Donnie. We are. Yeah. So the rules 10 minutes, three on three, then a shootout. Yeah. Which by the way, stop with the soccer stuff. So the goal metal game, like that is such a bad, bad... A shootout? Yeah. Yeah. No. Okay. Here's my thing. You know. And it's... A lot of it is influenced by Europeans and it's a soccer thing.

8:09Okay. The NHL is involved in this. What happens in overtime in the Stanley Cup playoffs? What happens? I'm sure. The three... The three on three, the shootout goes out the door. Yeah. And rightfully so. You want it to be more pure. I don't get that. Yeah, but you have... I get it for this. The bigger beef I have is the gold medal game, guys. It's three on three. You bring it up, Johnny. Twenty-ten was four on four. Yeah. Over time. Three on three in a championship gold... I don't like that. I don't like that. I don't like that. This is even going to a shootout here. You know, I should be aware of the rules. Is there a shootout in the gold medal game? Yeah. No. It's continuous three on three. But these world cups that get decided on penalty kicks. Like that is. Yeah, I don't like that. The biggest event on the planet. Are you kidding me? That is just absolutely ridiculous. What is the thinking there? Is it TV related? Because I... Who in their right mind would turn off their television shows? Especially when you have three monitors.

9:10Would turn off a television set with the world cup on the line. Nobody understood that. If indeed that's for me. It makes no sense. See, that's a championship game that I get. This I get only because... Like, how do you have to continue? So what if this goes to seven over times? Who's turning away? Nobody. Nobody. But you have to have... Oh, buddy. Okay. There's another game after this. That they got to get in. Too bad. What do you mean? The Americans are already complaining about their 9, 10 local starts. You want them to start at 6 a.m. tomorrow? I'm okay with that. Absolutely. It's more pure. Like... I get it for this stage of the thing. But the world cup body line with the importance of the event. Yeah. I'm sorry, it's not. Yeah. Not even close. So it's over. It's over. Regulations over. Three periods over. Three, three. If Canada ends up winning this game, I don't want to jinx them. This will go down as one of the great nail-biteers of all time in Canadian history. On the other side, what's with the checks?

10:12They can't... Three straight times Canada's juniors have been eliminated by the checks. Chesia. And we all remember 1998, the first time in a long time, the NHL took part in the Olympics. And we all know what happened with Dominic Hasick that the anniversary was coming up. Two days away. Yeah. Two days away Hasick stopped all five guys. Things to keep an eye on in overtime. Chesia played yesterday. Dostal's face 39 shots today. This guy's tired. He's dead tired. Okay. You did back to back. No. He did. So why don't... Why don't in the NHL coaches like... They don't play goal. He's back to back. This is why. This guy's got to be tired. He's face 39 shots yesterday. Or he's in a hot. Or he's in a hot. He's in a rhythm. He's in a rhythm. See, I don't buy... I don't buy that. Well, the team's more well-rested. And... What's going to help here, Don? It's going to help. The rest of the team... Hey, listen. I hope I'm running. I hope I'm running. I think three on three. The adrenaline's flowing.

11:12These guys are best players. I don't think it matters at all. And there's Veronica's on the ice for this. Veronica's on the ice for this. He's been a... Just a workhorse. I know. Well, I know this. You know, Veronica Patterson are going to score a big goal against Canada somewhere along the line. So why not... Here we go. So why not here? You know, all those people that didn't like the Heronic trade... He's been fabulous at these Olympics. He really has been. It has been great for Chechi. How many minutes after three for Heronic? I haven't seen that. And this is playing... I had 29 right now. 29 minutes after three. 29 minutes after... 29. 23. It played yesterday. It would have played just as much yesterday. What a workhorse. Yeah. Well, it's not thought it was a great player. Yeah. Yeah. And what an interview he is. Ha! And Future Captain of the Connects, by the way. Yeah. We have some foreign audio in the background. Yeah. It was just some music on one of the sides of this video over here. Do we want to take a break now? Well, I'm worried about taking it too early.

12:12And then we're going to be back for the shootout. So... Oh, we can... Oh! Lenington Big Save. I've been a fan of his since day one. Should we update the other quarter final going on right now? Not that anybody really cares, but there's... I will say there's Slovakia beat Germany earlier today by score 6-2. And I think that other than this game... Yeah. That team has been led by Yuraislav Koski. The story of this tournament. Oh. Slovakia? Canary to the score. Oh! The final. Who got it? Who got it? It was a righty. It was Mitch Marner, I believe. Mitch Marner. Yeah. This is unbelievable, folks. And the Czechs had a couple opportunities. They had to break away by netches late in the third. Yeah. That is a crusher for Czechia. My word. I was absolutely granted. I'll be honest. I'm looking at my notes here. It's like when it was crushing losses in Canadian Olympic history. You know, given that. Polon is a Czech hero. How about Heronic and what he has done for that team? my lord what a game what a morning what entertainment for I know it's I find

13:16it very hard to watch I'm not sure if I enjoy it but this is just absolutely a tremendous and the X and I'm gonna put an emphasis on this the X Maple Leaf Mitch Marner plays hero for Kevin along with along with Nick Suzuki Suzuki was he got the time what a beautiful deflection to that wasn't not an easy deflection he was going the other way but just and Mitch Marner gets it you can you imagine T.S. Senate sports that for the rest of the day I don't he used to play for the Leafs and that means everything and he ends up being the hero we haven't seen the replay of the goal but my lord this is a great and you're not seeing it but this is just a look at Rick here's the replay just a tremendous tremendous Canadian hockey moment and it's woven by Mitch Marner on the backhand working those backhand kids and when you give this many skilled guys time and space you know Olympics or NHL just all would

14:17like to have that the goal is gonna come quickly because so much skill is out every you know a second shift no question about this was not gonna be a long overtime okay we don't we don't have to worry about a shootout now so Canada wins 4-3 3-on-3 overtime Mitch Marner with the winner Nick Suzuki with the late tying goal also a hero let's let's oh first of all I'll tell everybody what's going on in the show and then we'll we'll take a break my lord oh I feel like I've just run a marathon DTMC I clearly have it DTMC is it just me coming up in the 11 o'clock hour Moj is gonna join us Barbara and Jonovich just after 11 o'clock and we thank him for that big ride the Twitter guy coming up later now John Shannon is scheduled to join us from the 100% hockey podcast do we want to save John for the bottom of the hour for the next segment what do you ever preference do we know I think I don't know his preference but as you've been drinking at all I imagine a lot of people have I know I know I don't

15:21know that John has an issue there all sort of the break okay okay yeah so John Shannon or recap of Canada's Canada's very very thrilling overtime win over Chetia at the Olympics they're on to the semi-finals 4-3 in overtime Canada over Chetia we'll break it down with ourselves or with the help of John next thanks so much for tuning it folks Donnie and Donnie the team is supported by AbleOctions.ca closing your business we can help AbleOctions specializes in helping British Columbia based business owners close their business and sell their assets in a timely orderly manner online events for everything from machine shop and manufacturing auctions to industrial equipment retail inventories or any other type of business assets Able auctions can help for a free confidential consultation on getting your

17:24huddle they have a conversation led by John Cooper and we're being told that he mouth the words this is good we needed that and I think what he was talking about was a whole lot of adversity and I mean a whole lot down three to late Chetchia on a roll in Canada and sub-winning on a late tying goal by Nick Suzuki and then the winner by Mitch Mariner Rick just before we get to John you said it they needed to get some scoring from somebody other than McDavid McDevid and Celebrini and Crosby Loan behold they did let's let's bring in John from the 100% hockey podcast 100% connects John thanks for doing this sir you okay I'm alive do you enjoy that because I don't enjoy it I I love it but I don't know if I enjoy it it's hard you have to love it yeah you have to love it

18:26you know we've we've been fortunate enough to be around the game on so many different levels whether it be in the Stanley Cup playoffs or other Olympics where it's back and forth and to be part of it one way or the other is electric and to watch it is electric you know there's obviously some concerns with the Sid's injury what's going on there as we get closer to a gold metal game but at the same time you know are we gonna complain about three on three at the Olympics today or are we gonna like it well but you you just said you'd love watching it but keep in mind Canada Canada did win so so there is that and three on three we're all just fine with it as of five ten minutes ago by the way if anybody ever questions Jordan Binnington as a Canadian goalie ever again ever again you know natious one ten to play in the third

19:33period on a breakaway it's the best player you know down the middle and over time Rackogudas seriously this guy you know and I know Nick Suzuki's gonna be a hero as he should be with the game time goal but this does not occur without Jordan Binnington he was fantastic John I don't know if you just heard me talking before we got to you but John Cooper reportedly mulling the words during the team handle afterwards this is good we needed this obviously he was talking about adversity do you agree with John Cooper totally it was too easy they they didn't look human in the first three games they look like superheroes they looked human today I think that you know it's you always hear about hockey players saying trying to find that extra gear Canada Canada played at a certain level in the first three games and didn't need the extra

20:33gear today was a day of adversity all the way along from halfway through the first period and so I think I think that's right I think every other team in the in the tournament has has had some sort of adversity even the Americans have had adversity in their in their preliminary round games and and guys let this be awarding to our American friends yeah yes you know the Swedes are a good team if this wasn't a wake-up call for the two teams that thought they were you know given the right to go to the gold medal game I don't know what was but this was spectacular today by the way what a great way to spend a Wednesday morning huh oh can't beat it you're watching our show yeah no kidding guys two screens hey oh oh love it love it always always I'm a one listen I need on I need my I need my D&D fix every day I'm a one TV guy that's

21:35it no more just like the eighties one TV that's it he's got a tube TV I don't believe in two TVs or ten screens I think that's for you know people like they have a lot of money it's I want one TV hey what they're people like who the young kids and they like all these TVs and screens in a house I think it hurt we grew up with one television one radio that's it I grew up in a one radio what a what a awful life you had Rick I grew up in a TV mobile where I watched 20 monitors watching watching three is not a problem I I had Donnie and Dolly on I had the American feed on and I had the Canadian feed on I was watching a little bit of everything because you never know you never know with one network has a picture that the other picture other network doesn't have so it's kind of cool this is why we love sports you you may hate the

22:37Montreal Canadians and you you may not like the Toronto police but today or Vegas Suzuki and Marner and even the people at Toronto that didn't like Mitch's departure are sitting they're going yes Mitch Marner this is why we it's for the country it's why we love sports oh yeah Rick God bless you but you don't know Lee fans oh so they're not happy today no the question will be is why didn't do that for us the playoffs in the playoffs that will be that will be the refrain is where was this Marner where where was this we didn't see him very much like this oh yeah anyway it's just what a just a spectacular game you know you're right about Celebrini three points again today yep it's funny we had Scotty Bowman on our show yesterday and I asked him the question had this

23:38team faced enough adversity yet and he said well they haven't needed to because they've been that good and so now as John Cooper told his crew today yes they have faced adversity now and that's not to suggest it's going to get any easier for sure but it's certainly a hurdle that the country can read a little easier about you know I when the check scored with seven minutes I thought oh my god this is this this is tragic and you know what was gonna happen if they would lost the word summit when it come up again we need a summit we need a summit we got kicked out in the in the quarter finals but you know what they prevailed you know and after one period they were down to one the outshot the check 17-5 in the second this team just does not give up John the thing that was haunting me Rick was I was there in Nagano in 1998 when the Kashik was so good and I was actually in the midst of trying to find a

24:40nice picture of Dostal as it with a check sweater on to say deja vu all over again yeah yeah because they were they were you know four minutes away from beating us with great gold tending one more time and and I know that this group of guys you know I think five of them weren't even born when the checks won in 98 I know Dostal wasn't born when when 98 occurred but they they they know how to play Olympic hockey this is this is why you know North Americans we have such a different philosophy of boat playoffs and and and series whereas these guys they they know on how to live this on the international stage and they actually at times do it better than we do we just we found a way today which is gosh it quite frankly it's a relief more than anything yeah well there there you go at the end of it I'm saying I enjoyed that but it was a relief more than

25:42anything more than euphoria John one thing you said earlier that like you expand on if you don't mind you mentioned that the the Canadians have some concerns obviously one of them is Sydney Crosby and his health what else do you see well I I think Rick kind of touched on it you know for all the talent we have you know like where's where Sam Reinhardt right now Sam Reinhardt played I think less than 10 minutes you know the and not suggest that he's playing badly but you know John Cooper elected to shorten the bench and and particularly after the Sydney injury that to me is the the bigger issue you know you have to hope that Josh Morris he's going to be okay he's going to be fresh yeah I would suspect that Sam Bennett will be in the lineup for the for the semi-final now whoever Canada plays because we still don't know who they're going to play right there's there's a good chance sweet it couldn't well it could it would if

26:46Sweden wins yep we're playing Sweden yes that's right if Sweden wins are playing Sweden if not it's somebody else that knows how to play hard hockey at this time of year two so it's kind of it's all of a sudden the tournament is taken a hard right turn and it's dramatic again and it's quite it's fascinating to watch yeah John can't thank you enough I know you've got a lot going on through your mind right now giving know what what just happened but that was just tremendous tremendous to watch this will go down I'm sorry I'm depending on how this tournament turns pans out one of the great days in Canadian international hockey history well I mean the minor goal well the minor goal will be just a level below Henderson a level below burial a level below Sid yeah yeah but this for this generation let's remember for this generation because Sydney was 16 years ago now for this generation to watch

27:47that three on three and watch Mariner knife through the the check defense and then all of a sudden use the backhand and send the net you're going oh my gosh oh my gosh that is unbelievable and he looked dog tire too yeah yeah but you know John you talked about Bennington I think the stall he was sliding over I think he'd like to have that one back obviously versus what Bennington was up to and I watched just just now the replay of the nature's breakaway he had two shots on that break when stop stop them both among other saves that he made just just just from you know what this is why we love sports everybody was doubting Jordan Bennington and again they haven't won a gold medal yet but look look where they are now my gosh look where he is now well at least at least they're playing for a medal now that's what I'm very loose today they lose today they're not playing for a medal you know and somebody texted me one day said well at least the women you're gonna get a medal it was three two checks

28:48and somebody said to me yeah at least the women are gonna get a medal you know I'm the one and I it's one and done and I'm I'm gold or bust on this team so yeah like everybody else John again thanks so much cheers boys you bet John Shannon 100% hockey podcast 100% a connox there's also by the way there was going to be a controversy of all controversies if this game didn't come out go back and watch the three two goal for Czechia they have six skaters on the ice oh my gosh and and by the way not close to the bench nothing like six skaters in the run-up play when Canada has a chance right before they go back down the other end they have six skaters grants and it grants is the one that tweeted this out and I just look back and it's I can't show you I can't I can't show you anything no unfortunately but it's clear as day they're six dudes in the middle of that I know but man that would have been an apt to worry about it comes

29:48into the category of excellent strategy oh yes yes by the guys on the ice five skaters will go six we have Chris here from the BC Lions he's watching the show today he pointed out to me Mariner won it for Canada the four nations in game one against the sweet against Sweden well an OT yes you do so I remember a bigger game goal today bigger goal today also Mariner set up a David for the winner yes at the four nations yeah you got the second assist on that play but yeah on which play the winner I think he had the first assist you sure from the corner I'm not gonna tell you actually I'm not gonna tell you Rick on the way in he is no idea you don't even listen to me no I am listening this is wonderful like I this is incredible and what a great point what they're going to be behind him I don't know he makes a good point about John about Mariner people in Toronto where was this in game seven how many game sevens did the Leafs have where Mariner's and Matthews did nothing and then he comes out tonight but in the NHL playoffs there's no three on three so a time and space this is going to

30:50be a quick overtime every single time too much skill out there too much time in space we're getting some player reaction we'll get to on the other side I got tweets I can show I can't show anything else but all right can we show a still of the six men on the ice probably not yeah I don't want to get anybody in trouble can we draw it yeah get on that we'll take a break all right we got a poll question yeah no we need to come over that yes yeah we got to get this Mitch Marta the greatest Canadian athlete all time all time all time that that's on the list we'll be back folks don't need to hide the team on check the BC construction safety lines is celebrating 25 years of making BC work site safer as part of that mission the BCCSA is now on the road with the safety on tour a new mobile education experience that delivers live safety demonstrations directly to your work site school or community safety on tour offers engaging interactive demonstrations that highlight key safety principles whether

31:52it's the effectiveness of fall arrest systems the advantages of safe lifting procedures or the protection offered by helmets safety glasses and gloves safety on tour transforms safety information into memorable and actionable experiences booked out a reserve and appears by the safety on tour mobile experience contact the BC construction safety lines by emailing safety on tour at bccsa.ca Waddling dog poll question which I think we're still working on but we'll remind you that it's brought to you by the Waddling dog experience one of Victoria's iconic destination sleep sip stock up all in one legendary spot come sit and stay at the dog today I take it we don't have a poll question at this point not not yet we're moving in it we're moving in it one of the reasons we don't and people are saying what the hell do you do in your breaks what do you guys do coffee maybe have a little meal what we were doing a lot of was

32:55watching watching thank you was watching what happened on Chechi is three to goal yeah so a lot of people upset at the time and you know you criticize Thomas Harley for what happened he gets a shot blocked the checks go the other way a nice passing play Pilate ends up scoring the go ahead goal but when Harley had a shot blocked yeah there was clearly yeah how they maybe the the officials were they're excited and as nervous as the players I'm not sure there was clearly six check players on the ice and like Ryan says it wasn't a matter of the check players being at the bench yes where they weren't really involved in the play but yeah technically there were six skaters on the ice they were trying to stop you think they were in their own zone all of their own zone in their own end you know trying to stop the Canadians and successfully given the

33:55block on the Harley shot in a way they went they scored they scored the they go ahead goal three of the six are in doastalls line of sight blocking the shot yeah Harley shot Harley shot three of the six it's I mean honestly it would been I don't know how they like things happen calls are missed but like we would have had I mean the prime minister might have been flying over to Milan to get things figured out I mean like it would have been yeah it would have been a hollow victory for the checks oh man chaos it would have been it well yeah yeah what was going on at the check bench you know guys we've got too many men don't worry about it yeah we got away with it could you imagine no I and then they end up scoring moments later yeah my gosh we got some a reaction he got some tweets and everybody wants to know about cross me this is John Cooper did not have it up this is courtesy Cobb a cause because our good

34:58pal didn't have an update on cross me but he did say much of the talk in the room the second mission among the players was this will not be Sid's last game at the Olympics so they wanted to they wanted to rally around Sid and and you know he didn't come back he didn't even return to the bench no and he walked super gingerly down the hallway we're talking about the all you could just tell by his body language yeah it was it was it looks pretty relatively speaking pretty serious and for him not to return and we all know what he's like because I think his number one skill is his drive and his competitiveness if for him not to play in a game of this importance from the early second period on tells you something about how about the severity of the injury and and my gosh he was he was so good for the for in the first three games what does this do for Canada up the middle of the ice Bennett didn't play you know Crosby's hurt didn't play much yeah and you got to center and on the wings you

36:02know all suddenly well that's you know that's that's a good thing though Rick if it is Crosby can't play they've they've got depth at center I don't think you're breaking up Celebrini and no no you're not David but Celebrini is a center absolutely you know and they went to Suzuki who came through in the end a center playing on the wing in this tournament you know Bolhorvatt is a center's although he's been playing center here they're they're they're actually playing to the cross but then your wings get a weaker as well done and you know as soon as Canada went down to one what did they do they put McKinnon right on that top line right away right to get the time goal back so it's going to be a surprise at all yeah yeah there's some injuries here at center now for Canada this is a McKinnon center as well yeah yeah Celebrini have to mention that Ryan Rashog has a quote from Mariner saying that Crosby actually addressed the group after the second period and gave them a lot of confidence heading into that which wasn't looking good for a no for a moment or

37:03two there no no it was not and by the way if you're the only if you feel like Canadians you know oh athletes they're calm and cool they they don't feel these things this is courtesy Rob Williams Thomas Arley I've been in a game 7 OT before and tonight was more stressful especially given his situation although now that we know he's looking back Thomas Harley had a pretty good excuse for what happened on three to check your goal yeah but my gosh but his game seven for Hartley Hartley it was not in Stanley Cup finals no so that that might be different if he said he played a game seven and this wasn't this this was a quarter five that's the thing you know like we talk about great moments in Canadian hockey and this is definitely up there but in all the excitement afterwards we forget that it's not like Mario where you know they win on that goal in 87 Paul Henderson there was time left when Henderson scored but it was it ended up being the winning goal game eight against the

38:04Soviets in 72 and then of course in 2010 sit in overtime scoring the golden goal this was a quarterfinal game yeah and I you know what I'm I am totally on on John Cooper's side when in more ways than one when it comes to you know this was good for them I and I hearken back I hearken back to 2010 we touched on this yesterday they were one one and one in the preliminary round yeah they had they lost to the States they had a shootout game against Switzerland they won that game and people forget that they beat Germany eight two in their next game after the preliminary round but that was a qualifying round game they had an advance to the quarter finals and then they did and they crushed Russia seven three and then on they went to beat that Slovakia gave them a really tough game in the semi finals they've got more to say about that in a second later on if we have time but people forget all the adversity that 2010 team

39:08faced and they came through with the gold medal tight tight games adversity and having to play that play in game and I know they crushed the Germans but again they still had to play that play that game that was the game where Shay Weber scored do you remember this yeah yeah and his shot went through the net and all of the people behind the net realized it was a goal and nobody else nobody else I don't think the officials did that's right I remember that either and then on they went to the eight two victory how we know for time able okay break all right maybe we should think of a poll come up with a poll question yeah wandering duck poll question okay able auctions are our title sponsor you know Jeremy Dodd big hockey fan you know he was oh watching that game and then tuning into Donnie and Donnie the team on check Monday able auctions well so you were excited about this auction oh big table auctions will sell a Victoria brewery Tuesday a clona micro brewery Wednesday a 62 foot yacht in Victoria four

41:09cocktail at the ocean front restaurant and lounge whether it's date night a family trip or a corporate event Bayside is your perfect year round escape book your getaway now at two five oh two four eight eight triple three your island adventure starts here for three in overtime team Canada over check you on to the semifinals Canada goes at the Olympics in Italy next to Zuki late time goal after incredibly controversial three two check your goal to put the checks up and this is Zuki scores on a tip shot from Devon Taves BC boy Abbasford and the Mitch Marner plays a hero big ride yeah so I want to be in with this tweet are we introducing the poll question though yeah well we even settled on it and we want to go with something about is today a top five

42:09Canadian goal of all time Mitch Marner's goal today top five I say yeah absolutely I say absolutely because of what John Shannon brought up with you guys they lose today this team doesn't play for a medal there's people calling this the greatest Canadian team ever talent wise ever and they don't play for a medal but I think I think you have to you know look ahead a bit and well the goal mean as much if they go to the if they lose the next game and end up not winning a even bronze medal at this moment it seems like you're right yeah I still think it is I would say no because you're giving them a shot okay well yeah I'm going I'm going to talk to Henderson winner winner winner yeah approximately winner in games where they they wrap things up so there's three different there's a three huge more like is there a significant significant O2 goal if there wasn't a game winner you know Joe Sackic's goal tonight but Sackic's goal is the one that stands out a lot because of Bob

43:11Cole's call yeah exactly I mean tremendous and the shot at Gretzky in town right a hot game right and Burnaby boy BC guys very important around around these part so I'll give you that these parts I'll give you probably what I won that game yeah like there wasn't a game so she there's there's a one I'm sorry so she I think across these go on the breakway but they were so dominant that whole series yeah that whole tournament and then the one nothing game against the states was the most lopsided one nothing game raw history of sports yeah right I would also have to know that's 2014 we're talking about yeah I would also have to clarify I'm talking men's men's talk I'm not yes yes yeah absolutely all that like yeah because the women I mean there's been overall 10 top 10 overall but it's not nowhere near Henderson no no it's and I mean you and Crosby for me Crosby is the greatest Canadian goal of all time you guys would probably say Henderson Henderson is and even the Mario Lemieux I mean I would say Henderson because and I often bring this

44:14up when we talked about this before the show and I would say Henderson because of the story that was woven by those Canadians they were out of shape they were you know they were after five games it looks like look like they were done they end up winning three straight games all three winning goals in those games by Paul Henderson but beyond that there was a political level right right that I'm not so well maybe we will get there with certain people in charge of certain countries but there was a political level with that that event with that series that isn't necessarily there now yeah it's not no no no it's not it was you know our way of life against their way of life finally the NHL was playing the Russians who were just cleaning up on the on the world stage against lesser teams there was just so much going on there it was such a big help for him to score late and hit for him to get three game winning goals there was just so much there I would go with that G and Richmond Bayside Ocean Front Resort in

45:14boxing it's a very good point I didn't think of it was a three on three goal maybe top five with an asterisk because of that it's a very good cross he's wasn't five on it was four on four yeah which is closer obviously three on three so it made it a little hokey I guess but I don't like it even the moment and I'll I'll tell you one thing that that helps your argument is that because of what will now be considered a major controversy with the three two Chechi a goal right that makes makes things a lot bigger when it comes to the importance of overall corners good what a in terms of the story yes that was written yeah my god they overcame you know being behind late in regulation and some brutal officiate oh how does that get missed by the four officials on the ice and I am I am pro official that is a tough tough job referee lines men not only making the calls but you know dealing with the criticism we saw an official in that

46:16game get hit with a puck in the back there's a lot there's danger there but they blew that one I am starting to see the photos of this the six check players on their way goal 30 minutes later no but just listen I just showed it on the monitor the break just listen to me listen to me how the heck and why is the Canadian bench not going crazy yeah you know well that's a good point that's a very good Canadian bench not saying you recovered six six six six well the other thing I don't know the challenge situation I should know I don't know I don't think there's a challenge well there will be from here on they're lucky they're lucky because if Canada would have lost boy oh man yeah there's clearly six guys on the ice yeah and all know none of this guy's going to the bench back they were all on the I was just it is well of course we didn't catch it but it just so obvious Canadian bench didn't go nuts I was I think this how did everybody miss it no I love it everybody miss it uh one of the funniest Twitter accounts in terms of athletes of all time is Roberto Lomango

47:19Strombone won he tweeted this out after Mariner was born to wear that maple leaf on his chest I mean it's just yeah that's very very clever and very smart yeah because you are seeing you see people in the the replies to him that are leaf fans you know complaining about him you guys brought it up like you know he didn't show up in the big moments well you know another great moment in that game was that we haven't talked about yet but it is very difficult you don't know this yet but I think you're gonna find this out one day I just hope you do Rick and I know all about this yes it's hard to be a minor hockey parent it's hard to be a hockey parent at every level and Sydney Crosby's dad's reaction when he gets hit by good is is and again we can't we can't show it but it is it's priceless oh is some kind of pissed off and I think anybody I wouldn't want to make that I mean you know you're you're angry enough as a Canadian but when that's your kid lying on the ice after a hit like that I don't think the hit was dirty but he was very upset that was that was looking

48:23back now I get we can laugh at it if you want to if you can laugh in that situation well and it was a really a significant moment the shots they showed of McCars mom barely able to watch it I just can't even because you brought up the point for the show Donnie they're living it two ways they're living it as a hockey parent your kid and you're living it as a proud Canadian it's a massive game as for your country going on yeah big time yeah okay we got a breath of the way props to you for the the jacket today yeah this is why very Canadian yes I remember why I wore a mode just coming up next I do want to mention very quickly because I'm sure it's going to be dominated by the Canada game as it should be the white caps do kick things off tonight though in Costa Rica call the cap champions cup did remember this is the game they took down of the final last year and they went down to Mexico the tournament and they lost so they kick things off tonight today at seven o'clock it's on one soccer they're down in Costa Rica home opener this weekend for the white

49:23caps hard to believe but is it a start time I don't know what the weather is like in Costa Rica 7 o'clock our time for the game so if it is hot it should be fine okay so I could be at noon now right at 40 degrees or something like that now so altitude at noon see and and again I'll I said it all along last qualifying for the World Cup in Edmonton in the snow brilliant yeah I've been doing that years ago yeah you use our weather advantage yeah anyway more on the Canada game is the show goes along mode is up next sunny dolly the team I check hey everyone it's Donnie and Donnie and we're looking to partner with your company we have several packages and price points to fit your budget and spread the word about your company on the show in our podcast and on social media we'd love to get involved with your company call 250 880 2282 or email advertise it check media dot c a get that well and dark pull a question by

50:25tomorrow no problem meanwhile all of our guests on this Wednesday including moach standing by sponsored by the BC construction safety alliance the BC CSA provides services to more than 57,000 construction companies throughout BC the BC construction safety alliance celebrating 25 years making safety simpler Bob Marginovich the moach from black press joins us now moach thanks for doing this sir how are you doing here you're coming down from that victory I think we all are okay just stop it just stop it there what is that sure show the whole picture well when you think of great Canadian hockey players I think there's only one day that comes to mind right look at that uniform look at the uniform yeah P&E P&E P&E minor hockey what's good what's our event for Thunderbirds now I think they are yeah or no the storm it's a storm or it's a storm now yeah you should be the tea fan right yeah I don't want to

51:27go on about my minor hockey career oh look at the hair yeah better the hair yeah hey I think I got a hair cut just before that pictures I met those uniforms from the ice love oh beautiful so moach what do you think for three bitch marker hero you know what don't you're talking about this yesterday you're talking about adversity Canada hasn't gone through it I don't necessarily agree with the fact that if they were to face adversity they'd be in trouble I mean you're talking about guys that are Stanley Cup Chan it's played in Stanley Cup game sevens four nations last year but it was interesting we always talk about how you handle adversity how do you handle success as well did you see the Chetia bench when they scored the game or not the game winner but the go ahead at three two it's like they thought it was they thought it was over almost right I mean they're all jumping up and down and I'm like guys there's still some time left right so that was something that came into mind and you know when you talk about the closeness of this game or good friend Ray Ferrero mentioned this a long time ago I remember him telling us like when Ray played he said the

52:27difference between the first line and the fourth line the ceiling and the floor was huge that gap is narrowed and I think you can apply that to international hockey as well I mean the gap between the top the ceiling and the floors narrowed and you know give the the the Chetian team credit him and they were right there they couldn't want hey you know what if Canada played him seven times they probably win maybe six games or five you know they beat him four games to one but today was that game that Chetia was right there and man oh man talk about keeping a country on edge I can't take you seriously without hit you in the background it can you keep it up change it by any chance leave it up leave it up leave it up leave it up leave it up did you did you see what happened on the three two Chetia goal six men on the ice are you aware of that motion I'm putting you on the spot I didn't see that I actually we want to talk about hockey brings a country together I'm not going to get into specifics I'll just say I had a medical procedure done this morning and before it started the doctor and the the assistant were like you got the game on your phone I go

53:28yeah we watched the last two minutes the second period before we started the procedure so I was kind of a little busy but I did watch the game I was listening to it and when I got home I caught obviously the final 10 minutes of the game so I did not see the fact that there were six men on the ice everything okay by the way yeah everything's fine it was an interesting morning I'll leave it at that okay it wasn't like what I went through a year or two ago was it oh Donnie this started with the CNN with the wide it's not what you think it was and just for good measure I had one of those on your side and bring your knees to your chest anyway that's how you need to know I don't need to know I don't need the image I don't need you on your side with your knees up hey let's move along yeah okay listen a lot of people don't know is that you have a relationship with John Cooper a friendship that goes way back tell us about that and you know he's obviously cemented himself as one of the best Canadian

54:31coaches of all time yeah well Donnie and I were doing the show and we were interviewing Cooper and you know Donnie brought up the point like we were talking about his career path and obviously not a guy who had played a lot of hockey at the pro level or whatever and Donnie brought up the fact that you know we're lacrosse guys like you were John Cooper is a lacrosse player in University of Hofstra and you know during the middle of the interview Cooper said hey I played in the WLA well who'd you play for Richmond outlaw second Richmond outlaws I go I played on the Richmond outlaws and for people that don't know Richmond outlaws are only an existence for three years from 87th or 89 and became the Burnaby Lakers after that and I played for two seasons and Cooper says hey we might even been teammates and lo and behold during the interview somehow somewhere I find the stats online and yeah we were teammates for four games with the Richmond outlaws so there you go yeah and and and he is really I mean this guy's never won the coach of the year award and he's won Stanley cops I mean that coaching staff for Canada did a good job today but do you not see

55:34what's happening here Moj Big Shot didn't even didn't even know his teammates names right how about is that how about is that funny nobody put two and two together none of us remember you have trouble with that well I'm talking guys like rush her Troy Pellzer I mean guys have played on that team stars and they you know the big fellas and you know then we remember oh the guy from Prince George right because you got called out four games and as soon as we kind of put two and two together then we kind of remember who he was hey yeah this celebrity kid Bob three points again today I we're running out of words to describe this kid at the age of 19 to do what he's doing like it's just unheard of he I'm scared to see what he's gonna come back and do for San Jose after this is over the kid you know you're so right because a lot of times we see players elevate their game to another level after an Olympic experience especially

56:34younger players I think of Jerome again after the the Salt Lake Olympics out his career kind of took off you know I mean there's numerous examples of it but you know every time I see Celebrini playing like why didn't the Kanox tank last year why couldn't it tank last yeah yeah I mean oh just you know and everything that I've heard about this kid and I've had the opportunity to chat with them briefly but he's so down earth and he's one of those kids that gets it and I was I think it might have been Elliot or somebody on hockey night was talking about how all those guys that work out at eight rinks during the summer or the bar yes and they said that everyone who has worked out with Celebrini like their game has now gone up right and I think McKinnon and Crosby flew him out to Nova Scotia to work out with them so this kid he's he's a true talent and he seems to be one of those individuals that

57:34makes I mean let's face it he makes everyone around him better but you know Donnie it's interesting because in Rick a lot of times people look at superstars and they say oh they have all this God-given talent you know they're so lucky well yes but they also have an unbelievable work ethic when you when you talk to you know so many teammates I know Donnie and I we talked to guys and we ask him about you know Crosby or you know Taze or whoever they'd always talk about great talent but an unbelievable work ethic and you know that's what you hear about Celebrini's that work ethic as well yeah I always remember Tiger William saying nobody nobody says hard work is a talent but it is not if not not every the ability to work hard is a talent is a skill hey fellas all I got to tell you is that number 40 on the connects right I mean how many times did you hear Rick talk and say Sydney Crosby shoots 100 timers Elias shoots 51 one one one timers after practice Sydney Crosby shoots 100 we've got to

58:38get Elias to shoot a hundred times after progress right so yeah you can have all the talent in the world but unless it's coupled with an outstanding work ethic really doesn't add up okay John Shannon was our guest earlier on the show right after the game and he says we should never ever Canadian should never ever doubt Jordan Bennington again big big save it made two saves on the breakway that Martin nature's out do you agree with that well without a question I mean he hasn't given you anything to doubt him about an international competition we saw what he did in the foreign nations last year particularly in that gold medal game we saw what he did today the the save on nature's late in the game I mean that can't it could have been out right so yeah I'm an agreement with Shannon I mean on this one he hasn't given you any reason to doubt him at this level penny minor hockey just so you know spawned the likes of Barry Beck oh yeah very back he was the stud back in my day a few years

59:40older than me do you ask for it yep hey by the way Crosby I don't like that injury fellas I know Donnie you hate it when I make diagnosis even though I hate it when you I hate it when you you don't want to talk about penny minor hockey you just totally ignored that yeah but no you're right it's all the Crosby thing it didn't get you're not a doctor mode you're sitting there watching hey you're not a doctor he didn't come back he didn't come back that says a lot when Mark's room went down I said four to six weeks oh captain was cackling in the background Taylor was laughing and loom behold I was bang on with my set like 20 years ago yeah what's 20 years ago but it's still counts now with crows look like an MCO and if it's an oh here we go mode I I know you teachers I you didn't get past grade 12 I know you got a doctor I know you got close to your doctor today mode but not that close you're sitting on your couch predicting injuries give me a break all right maybe he's not sitting after today thanks for this okay fellas talk to next week have a great weekend next week in

1:00:46a mode thanks to the BC construction safety Alliance is a regular on our show now yeah every Wednesday I think that predicting injuries on from your couch give me a break well he was right about that one 10 20 years ago have you got a wobbling dot pull question yet we we want to introduce it next okay we'll do that next some more conversation about Canada's I guess you can call it throwing 4 3 overtime we know we're just yeah over in Italy that's next don't eat all of the team one check don't eat and don't eat the team is supported by able auctions dot c a closing your business we can help able auction specializes in helping British Columbia based business owners close their business and sell their assets in a timely orderly manner online events for everything from machine shop and manufacturing auctions to industrial equipment retail inventories or any other type of business assets able auctions can help for a free confidential consultation on getting your

1:01:49business assets sold please email sales at able auctions dot c a that's sales at a B L a auctions dot c a what a day Canada overtime win over a church and all I was like to think about as mochi's procedure uh-huh Mitch Barnard hero 4 3 Canada over a Chechia in overtime 3 on 3 overtime that was preceded of course by Nick Suzuki's game time goal late in regulation against the Czechs some valiant effort by Chechia yes by the way and we had all this all this talk ready to go conversation ready to go about how Chechia just has Canada's number in internationally recently especially at the world junior level than going back to 98 but it wasn't to be for them today Waddling dog poll question one of Victoria's experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations the dog sleep sip stock up on one legendary spot

1:02:51come sit and stay at the dog today this only took about 50 minutes but we came up with a Waddling dog poll question Rick better late than ever our Waddling dog poll question is Mitch Marner's game winner today a top five men's team Canada goal look at this look at this almost 50 50 54% say yes it is but then we got 46% say no 132 votes so far we just posted it a few minutes ago Trevor replied to us with his five uh Crosby that Trevor we know no no no Crosby Henderson the Mu McDavid Marner so he's going for nations yeah winner and I think one of the there's a recency bias here when it comes to the McDavid goal I don't think there's any any question about that but I talked earlier about 1972 and what made that such a big deal it had that one of the elements that it had that most international hockey events don't have is that political level

1:03:53us against them communism versus democracy and Canada's game is hockey all of that four nations had that political level you can you can you can say whatever you wanted you know who Trump didn't have anything it did it did so me did you ask at the time the US government was crapping on Canada and it was a sorry for using that phrase but I don't think I'm wrong in saying it and that came through in that event certainly in that first game and I think it carried on to the to the final game as well so that that's that's a good point by Trevor yeah I mean that's up there and you know maybe we don't give it enough credit but it was a very important event I think a large part because it had that political level and I know we do recency bias with with all of these yeah things but I mean again like you look since 2000 you got the old two Olympics oh six Olympics which obviously was a disappointment 2010 2014 and now you have this so you got five instances of Olympic hockey

1:04:56since 2000 and then you are added the four nations and that stimulating world championship they had a Toronto between team North America and oh good was the team came in Europe and yeah yeah the Lemieux goal was on Holmice the way they went up the ice Larry Murphy Hamilton Hamilton it was a cops call us him the way they went up the ice Larry Murphy's back and then there's also the characters involved oh and rescue the Lemieux they're incredible Larry Murphy and Larry Murphy and I think Larry Murphy's one of the most underrated players in National Hockey League history certainly one of the most underrated defensemen he got boot in Toronto I know he went on to win Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh and Detroit but if I'm Wayne Gratsky Larry Murphy Mario I'm gonna go with Mario yeah ended up being the ended up being the right yeah the right call the other thing we're getting a lot into the inbox today is something that dolly what doesn't want to talk about but a canok angle okay philiparonic was great third advantage so we we know that this this is what you don't want to talk about he was talking about Ryan sent this to us played 30

1:05:57minutes arguably best skater alternatives yeah is he not their best asset to return features to this team and trading him the kind of his agents ready come out and said we are not going anywhere he's ready talked to the connox and told the connox that we're not going anywhere so I was it always about the agent I'm telling you the what don't you Alan was he tweeted about that I mean Alan was Alan wall said he's already talked to the connox we're not going anywhere he's gonna stick around and I'm telling you I think I was one of the first guys to say it I think he's the new captain is going to be the new captain I don't think you're necessarily wrong there if they if indeed they want to name a captain in the in the near future I don't think you're wrong there but Rick what if what if a team that is a legitimate shot at winning a Stanley Cup comes to the connox comes to Alan wash and says look we you want your we want your client on our team and you know and he especially what at not getting he's not getting an Olympic medal

1:06:57wouldn't you want a shot of a Stanley Cup I don't believe a difficult situation teams have already called Vancouver on her own yeah and the connox have said no we're not shopping them and the agents talked to the connox and we're not waving or no move it's not happening he was great it's not happening okay the connection should be that out of your head right should be shopping and he just saved it all I know okay I want because here's the thing I'll say everyone about these no moves oh nobody's going to go anywhere okay let's revisit this at the end of this horrible season for a lot of these guys you want to keep doing this because they're going to be 30 second again next year or they're going to be 31st the year after that what are they going to be 29th they all just signed Garland they sat great best there have signed in the last nine months why can't you get what you have what was the optimism level at that time they signed not very good they just missed the playoffs they just missed the playoffs and he tries to sign sure six seven years optimism level and the future because they were using injuries as an

1:07:58excuse and maybe rightfully so was way higher than it is now yeah way higher for the barone i think it's got really great rid of it is traded quen you right you wanted out didn't want to trade up sure but i'm talking about the optimism level you think things have not changed in the opinion a lot of those yes thinking man i wish i yes i wish i didn't sign the one i got no evidence in the case of Bessar sign somewhere else yeah i got no evidence any of these guys want out for whatever reason and i they let's see uncle went to his agent and said get me uh in back in Vancouver i want to stay garland did the same yes Bessar did the same okay they all and the nine months ago yes they all signed things can't change and how's it gone in nine months you're in the your team dead last yeah and you're staring that down for multiple years beyond this one you see it's me and you against him but lately it's been him and i against you like what's going on the teams uh that want these guys uh they don't have a ton of cap sprees to get

1:08:59sure i understand all of that is that that dawned upon you these are not easy guys to move sure but what about pettersick i already talked i've already talked to one team who said i can't get garland six times six on i can't do it we can we can't do it but that's on the vancouver connox to make make it creative and find a way to do that yeah right we take a bad money do you hold back some of this yeah you guys if we're running the connox right now i tell you i feel better job i would i don't doubt to be honest oh they're not easy contract right now would you take basically seven times seven what teams taken him and his goal production okay no but we're talking about her own i'm talking about her own i'm talking about her own right we're talking about her own it who's coming off a very impressive he doesn't want to go what are i and he's doing okay okay uh i'm i'm Alan walch come on uh the sword and mark Henry flurry yeah i can't get that out of my very impressive Olympic tournament. He's been, he has been, as he's been to Conex Best Player this season. Yeah, certainly since Quinn, he was a shot.

1:10:01I would, I would think he is. He is really valuable. If they're thinking of the future, and they get some team throwing draft picks and prospects at them, with that, not be at the very least attractive, the not only in the Conex, but maybe heroic in Alan Walsh, if that means he gets in a position to win his Stanley Cup. By the way, after the heartbreak here, let's take everything Alan Walsh says with the green assault. He's the one that ripped into the reporter about the Philip DeGnoll reports. And what happened to me? Oh, what happened to me? So here, here's another one for you. Here's another one for you. He's a right shot defenseman who plays 28 minutes of game. If you trade that guy, he's your right shot defenseman. Yes, it's either of ours is turned in 36 next year. Oh, great. That's good. And they finish 30 second again, they get the Dupont kid from down in every time. That's great. Like he just want to keep William, who's he William playing with? Who is he? That's part of a rebuild ring. But then don't cry. Don't cry if their development goes bad. Zee Buoyams, because he's playing with crap every night. Yeah, you can't.

1:11:01That's part of a rebuild. We have this argument every day and I usually win it. Where are we here? And where are we? Pastime. Business. All right, that's right. All right, here we go. BC's number one sports memorabilia and gaming shop is pastime sports, check out the largest selection of sports memorabilia autographed items, trading cards and collectible games in Western Canada. Look at this. You got four locations. Oh, Metrotown, back in the 80s, Little Ricky used to go to Metrotown, catch a bus. But anyways, Guildford Mall, Kaplanamall, and look at this. That's why you went to Metrotown to catch a bus? No, I took a bus. I had to take the bus to get to Metrotown, and back in the 80s. And it seers. And when the bus prices were 10 cents in a quarter, what is it now to catch a bus? Well, I know what I pay monthly for my skydroid, which is ridiculous. So almost 200 bucks. 200 bucks. Almost. Let's get free in New York soon. No, what about the buses? And putting the quarter and the dime in the bus,

1:12:02that you don't want. Well, the good old day. How much was peps here? The sound. And the bus driver would look down to see if you put in a proper change. Oh yeah, look at the ride. Why are you laughing? Well, I was driving. The bus driver had to check you put the right change in, right? Yeah. And the kids that didn't got busted, kicked off the bus. Didn't the bus drivers have that little device on their belts with the change? That's right. I got that right. Yeah, you make change, you mean? Yeah. I remember the waitresses. Or was it attached to the machine? I remember waitresses and waiters that white spot haven't one of those. Yeah. Yeah. You do? Yeah, yeah. But it was officially turned into an old man. I am. But to put the quarter in the bus was a big thing back in the 80s, right? That was a highlight for you. Well, it was a highlight. Your life was just... But we had a ton of change in our pockets. We did get the quarters out the dime to the 80s. Best decade ever. Canada overtached you for a three and over time. Best decade ever. Anyway, what's on the laptop? I did this before, obviously, because I didn't know what was going on. So I just put up the PWHL card. Jings to know.

1:13:02No, no, no, no. I actually have put this up after his injury. So the Cindy Crosby's on the cover of the OPG cards. We shouldn't mention Canada, the US tomorrow. Gold medal game for the women's side. Maybe we shouldn't mention it. Well, I'm not going to say the time, but there's a game tomorrow happening. We went through all that today. So have we even mentioned when Canada's next game is Friday? Well, we don't know. Time wise. We just don't know what's Friday play. Yeah, so we might be going through this again Friday in terms of during the show after the show. Don, he's going to be on his couch. Oh, he's going to be on the couch watching. Okay, we're good. Yep, we're going to take it a bus somewhere. DTMZ nest. Are we going to do, let's do DTMZ. At the very end, it's for this, yeah. More hockey conversation, DTMZ. We'll figure something out. 1:15:02Okay, normally we do news from the world of entertainment. Hollywood and beyond. Nothing more entertaining than what happened today, at least for hockey fans and for Canadians over in Italy. Four, three Canada overtets you in overtime. Winning goal, three on three OT, Mitch Mariner, which was preceded by a late game time goal by Nick Suzuki. You know what? And we're gonna show some tweets here in a sec. But what really concerned me, Rick? Well, there was a lot, you know, being down three, two late on a very controversial goal, that concerned me clearly. But also when Canada fell down to one in that game in the first period, until McKinnon scored, which was around midway point of the second period, the checks had five players in the neutral zone skating backwards, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, and that takes me back to 2010.

1:16:04And I always remember that game against Slovakia, semi-final game for Canada. And Canada won the opening face-off and the Slovaks. And hey, it worked. It was a three to hockey game. All five players immediately. This is off the opening face-off. All five in the neutral zone, skating backwards, nobody for checking. And it wasn't a very entertaining game, but Canada ended up winning. And I thought, boy, here we are gonna see the same sort of thing here, except this time around, the checks have a two-one lead. It didn't work out for him, but it was frightening for Canadian hockey fans for a significant amount of time over in Italy today. Ryan, we have some tweets that we want to show people. Yeah, just quickly, John Cooper, this is Luke Fox Sports, that John Cooper asked him a check-in, having too many men on the ice. He smiled and walked away without a word. Yeah. Didn't decide not to comment on the situation. Rick, you made the point. And for people who aren't aware of it, and because of IOC rules and regulations,

1:17:05we can't show it. We can't even show a freeze frame here. It's just ridiculous. That's a story for another day. But I think you made the point that Team Canada, I, you don't recall the matter of a column being upset. Nobody said boo. At the time when it was, if you look at the freeze frame, it's, you just look at the, it's so obvious. When you see too many men on the ice in hockey, usually some coaches going nuts or some players banging the stick. Yeah, nobody on the Canadian bench said boo. And I wonder if it, and we'll learn more as the days go on. I would imagine, even as the hours go on, it was so outrageous. To the point where I'm wondering, you and I have both, it was obvious. Hockey for a long time. It was so, I don't think I've ever seen that. At any level, minor hockey, if I don't, I can't remember seeing where it's just six guys. It's outrageous. They had six players, skaters in the defensive zone. And like you say, it wasn't along the boards, where you usually see too many men penalty.

1:18:06Wasn't a late change. Being assessed. Wasn't a late change draw. This guy's coming off right. It was so outrageous. It clearly surprised everybody, including the officials. And maybe the Canadians at the bench. And I'm sure the checks were aware of it. But for sure, they wouldn't say anything. If you've got too many men on the ice, you're not saying boo. You clam up. Right? Maybe you're calling a player back on. But I don't think that went back on the bench. I don't think that was the case. Don't be so sure about that, because Duffy tweeted, among everyone here who didn't see it, including it seems the Canadian bench, were mostly the checks. Just talked to a bunch of their players who had no idea. Were shocked when I showed them the screenshots. Only one acknowledged he knew they had six players on the ice. I get it. It's so outrageous. OK, Ryan, chime in here. Have you seen anything like that? No, no, we are like that obvious. Again, I wish we could show it. But there's three players. Everyone is below the blue line.

1:19:08It's not like by the bench. It's not, you know, oh, there was a change that was weird. They're all in the play. It's bizarre. We're going to get to birthdays. We're up against the town. So February, what is it? The 18th? Yeah, the 18th. Yes, February 18th. We got five birthdays. Who's the brother? We got sponsor here. Look at Little Leo's fire hydrant factory in Casino and Douglas BC right there by a piece four to golf course. OK, look at this. Third round pick of the black. Who was that, by the way? Dom in White Rock. Dom in White Rock. Good guy. This player was the third round pick of the black hawks in 1976. He played in the Swedish top division when he was 15 years old. Smooth skating. You won't find anyone smoother. Three times he played for Martyr. Three times he played for Sweden at the World Juniors. Captain of Sweden's 1984 Canada Cup team led them to the finals before losing to Canada. Played in the 1985 NHL All-Star game.

1:20:08One, the 1980s. Crafted by who? I'd never said black hawks. Chicago, yeah. Thomas Crudeen. Ah! How'd you get that? Because I remember how weird it was that he never played a game for black hawks. By the black hawks. Yeah. Thomas Crudeen. Schmehl Grudeen Fraser. Best line ever for the connox in my eyes. Bertuzzi Morris and Nettler. Not just the Schmehl Grudeen Fraser. Saddeens. That line and everything. The Smooth Skating Center with the tough guys who could score. Best line ever. All right. This guy's the fifth round pick in the NHL draft in 1988. Shares the NHL record. Look at this. Fastest goal to start a game. Five seconds. Five seconds in 1991. First European player to lead the league in goals. He did it in 1992. 2003 won the Lady Bing Memorial Trophy. When did he lead the league in goals? 1992. No, no. First European to lead the league in goals in 1992. He's won an Olympic gold medal.

1:21:09World championship in a Stanley Cup with the Devils in 2000. Patrick Goliath. McGilney. Spin it out. McGilney. Alexander McGilney. As soon as I said that, yeah. Absolutely. Then he came to the conax in 85-4. Hey, we're moving on. Ah, Pac-Man Wilson in the first round. I love it, I'll say. Pac-Man great move getting him. 55 goals first year man, Cooper. All right. This guy's having a cliff running. And then running went to the coyotes. He was brought into him and Burie had magic. And Pac-Man, Burie magic, McGilney magic. All right, this guy said Burie was hurt that year. I know. And then he scored 50. OK, moving on. Now I'm going in it. A great move by Pac-Man. This American actor, he has received nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy. He made his feature film debut and over the edge in 1979. In 1991, Roger Deber referred to him as the best actor within his age group, including Sean Penn. He cites Gene Hackman as a major influence.

1:22:11He worked with Gene, hold it a second, in the movie Target in 1985, Little Ricky Saw Target in 85. He was Dallas Dally Winston in The Outsiders. Come on. Outsiders, one of the greatest movies of all time. That group of kids. No blood in blood out. No, that group of kids in Outsiders. Oh, boy. In 2002, he directed City of Ghosts. He was offered the role of Michael in the Blue Lagoon. Remember Blue Lagoon? In 1980. Remember Blue Lagoon? Look at the beach. The scene on the beach. He said, what about the scene on the beach? It's hot dawn. He turned down Blue Lagoon because of the nudity. Didn't want to do it with Brook Shields. Anyways, but he's known for the crash or crash. He's known for everything. Oh, just everything he said. He said a receiving an Academy Award for his role in crash. Remember the cop? Remember the cop in crash? Are you guys serious? The crash. The crash. Not a dunch. Dunch, dunch, dunch, dunch.

1:23:13Are you guys a good looking guy? Matt Dillon. Yeah, Dillon. You guys should be ashamed of yourself. I'm bodyguard. Dillon, what a great actor. Are you kidding me? Outsiders, Tom Cruise, all those guys? Oh, what a film. OK, last guy. This is last one. And we'll surprise. Wasn't he? Matt Dillon. Was that the other Dillon? No, that was his brother. Yeah, that's his brother. But Dillon's was the great movie. Well, he was in something about Mary. He was a villain in something about Mary. He was the bad guy in something about Mary. OK. Anyways, last one. This guy's one of my all-time favorites. All right, this iconic American actor has also released nine albums. Four singles that charted the Billboard Hot 100. Top 40. He ran two miles a day in dance for three hours daily for a film every day. What film? I can't tell you the film. If I tell you the film, you're going to get it. I can't do that. He turned down lead roles in Splash, Apollo 13, and Forest Cump. He was supposed to be Forest Cump. He said, no, I'm not going to do Forest Cump.

1:24:14He's done three films. He's done three. No, you don't know it. It's Donnie's age. It's Donnie and I. He's in Welcome Back Carter. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. He's done three films of Bruce Willis. He was Vincent Vega in Quentin Tenantra Volta. Yeah, John Travolta. Pulp Fiction. Yeah, I know you haven't seen it. Vinny Barbarino in Welcome Back Carter. Saturn in the night fever in 1977. Greece in 1978. Two best films of all time. Who didn't love John Travolta? Great guy. Pulp Fiction, so good. Oh, Pulp Fiction. We are up against that, but I need to sneak this in. Spoiler alert. Moments ago, Finland beating Switzerland in overtime. Switzerland collapsing. They're up to nothing. They're up to nothing. Here is how it looks now. This is courtesy Elliott. USA wins tonight. Canada, Finland, OK? USA loses tonight. Canada, Sweden, OK? So there's how they avoid the Americans both, either way. Well, other than the final. Yeah, yeah. So there you go. USA wins just Canada, Finland in the, in the, in the.

1:25:15So I can't believe what I saw today. Oh, great. Great. OK, is it just me coming up the weekend? Rick, just be careful with it. 36, there is a weekend coming up. Turned 36 on Monday. If you got this, what are you doing? It's a long intro. It is, yeah. It is going to play us out from November of 2019 in the album After Hours, named after the movie After Hours. Very good. With Griffin Dunn. This is the weekend and blinding lights on check. The best of Canadian music on a B.C. Wednesday morning. Is it just me? It's next on the Dulley, the team. On check. All right, is it just me? Very quickly, Rick, if you don't mind, is it just me? But is this the best we can do, given IOC regulations? There you go. We've got to close up here. Oh, there you go. That's Thomas Harley there.

1:26:16This is where the six check players were before the 3-2 check goal. Ryan made a very good point that when you watch, and again, we, IOC regulations, we can't show it, when you watch the check celebrate on the ice after the goal, it's six players. Six skaters celebrating. Golly makes seven. One of the worst non-calls in the history and not of hockey of all sports. It has to be right up there, but they won, so it's not as big a deal. We started the show with it was in overtime. And Braden and Abbasper, I'm watching boys, don't worry. Your volume was all the way down, but you're still on the side monitor. There, right there, Braden and Abbasper, thank you. Watching us right out of the shoot, we appreciate that. Jeves from Surrey, is it just me? But Mojus procedure this morning had more viewers than this show at 10 a.m. Again, we got to have some sort of price of submission of the year.

1:27:17Right, that's up there. Thank you. You can't have Mojus on the show after he sees the doctor. Like just, hey, tough Canadian kid. I like that. If you're out of the doctor, you shouldn't be on the show. Hey, I was in the one asking for details. Today they were sending you details on them. Why are you getting details on the board? Because he said I had a high-end. I know. But today Adam is making sure our friend is okay. Of course, it calls me after he sees the doctor. I don't want to hear anything. He's telling us he's on his side? I don't need to know. I don't want to hear what the doctor's doing to him. Okay, here we go. Look at this. Heronix staying with the connox is admirable. The checks should have him on the ice at the end. He deserves to wear the seat. Look at this, Eric, the greenskeeper. Jumping on the Philip Heronic bandwagon. Eric works for Alan Walsh. Yeah. And the Irish, is it just me? But while I agree with the political overtones of four nations, I wasn't as engaged in the tournament until the final. It was a manufactured tournament by the National Hockey League. I think what it was, and we'll agree to disagree there. It was an appetizer for the Olympics. To remind people just how fabulous

1:28:18international hockey can be. Again, that's from MBI Raj. Raj, I know you're a big hockey and a big sports fan. You text in all the time to us. I can't believe you didn't watch that first candidate, USA game. Come on. Oh, that was the best one. Six seconds in. You had three fights? Yeah. McLennan Celebrini has become the first player outside the conucks that I have really cared about his offense in Sydney, Crosby, our beautiful Omar. You know, what Celebrini is doing right now. And the fact he's a local kid, it just makes you so proud. And you know, one of the, what he is, the best 19-year-old in the world. And he's from Vancouver. He's just five goals on 11 shots. By the way, he's shooting 45%. That's a crazy shooting percentage. So that's set up today from McDevon. Oh, that amazing. And by the way, Conor McDevon would to assist tying the Olympic points record. Yes, right? OK, break. Yes, take a break. We'll wrap up the show in the poll question next. And extra thanks to everybody for tuning in today.

Come, sit and stay. Waddling dog, poll question, Rick. Ryan, get her up the Waddling dog pub poll question. And it is, as soon as Ryan gets her up, here it is.

1:30:21Mitch Marner's game winner today. Is it a top five men's team candidate goal? Pretty darn close here. 53% say yes, but 47% say no. 241 votes, we posted a very, very late today after the show started. OK, I'm trying to find this. OK, this is Nick from Vic. We don't have any pictures, right? No, no, no. This is Nick from Vic. Is it just me, but guys, bossy in 84. I believe that was a candidate coming. Here's one that I would definitely will agree with. Good for you, Nick. Sintler, 1976. Against the Jackson, Vladimir Zerilla, top five goals of all time. He thinks that would be, I don't know if you remember that goal. Everybody remembers. Sintler, Sintler. Everybody remembers. Sintler's 10 point game with the Leafs against the Bruins. But that moment for team candidate, I believe with Rogi Vashon in goal, it was a candidate cup against Zerilla. Who off of them? Not mistaken, was a goal tender award the number two. That was a big, big, Canadian moment. Thank you, Nick.

1:31:22Yeah, that's a great submission. Absolutely. Good grief. We went out of our way to get a coveted top right shot defenseman in Aronic. Can't get rid of him unless it's for two first, a minimum, a minimum. So there you go. Brian, according to Ryan, get rid of every veteran in the dressing room. Well, you're saying if they were offered two first for Aronic and he was willing to go, you would say no. I never said that. I would ask for what I would do is ask for a right shot defenseman in return. Sure, a young one if you want, get rid of every veteran and go with 21 rookies next year. Let me ask you one rookies next year because no young team needs veteran because you could win at the NHL level with 21 rookies. Good one, Ryan. Let me ask you that. But if the price is right, but the future of mine, you got to jump. How many of the corrupt players are going to play with William? How many of the corrupt players have value right now? I don't know. You tell me. Aronic, that's it. Honestly, that is it. Every other one of them has warts. Every single one of them.

1:32:23Well, especially when I think of Aronic. Now, as of this tournament, that's what I'm seeing. And the extra value they got is unmovable contracts. We'll talk about it tomorrow. Again, I said this in the previous segment, but extra thanks to everybody for tuning in today on such a special day elsewhere. Canada wins in overtime. My gosh. All right, again, thanks for watching folks. I'll be half of Ryan, our visitor, Chris, Derek, Rick, everybody here. Robloing check, I'm Don, and you're up the date and the world of sports.
