Hello, I'm welcome to cheating all the time. Glad you are here. Let's get into this next crazy cheat. I thought she was my everything, but that was before I found her with him. I trusted her. I loved her. But in one night, my world collapsed. Every kiss, every promise shattered. I walked in and there she was, bare, tangled in the sheets we once shared. His mug phase, her guilty eyes, and me frozen. Rage boiled inside me. That night I wasn't just betrayed. I lost my wife, my friends, my entire life. And the worst part? She didn't even flinch. I loved the feeling of just lying in bed on a Sunday morning. The sun began to rise over New Orleans, shining softly through a bedroom window. The warm light in my wife beside me brightened my mood. She lay on her stomach, her face turned away and resting on her pillow. I could hear her gentle breathing, so I knew she was awake. I smiled, realizing we were both enjoying the same summarize. I looked at my wife's slim figure. Her strong body showed how much she had grown over the years.
I felt happy thinking about her journey's strength and confidence. I softly touched her arm and brushed a few dark curls away from her shoulder. I noticed a small scar on her skin and I felt her body tense up. Leaning and close, I was prud, it's okay. She reached up, lately holding my hand, encouraging me to keep going. This was something we had done many times during the last five years. Thankfully, she needed my comfort less and less as she learned to accept her past. I love you, Beanbull. I said, using a nickname from her childhood that she cherished. She sighed and replied softly, I love you too, sugar. Please never leave me. I gently run my fingers over the circular scars on her arms. They were less visible than the scars on her back. My beautiful and strong partner had faced hard times, but she had fought back. For a while she struggled, but over the last eight years she had been rebuilding her life. Although Jordan was still figuring out her self-worth, she grew stronger month after month. I noticed the lawn scars on her back resembling a map, and aligned from a song popped into my mind. It spoke about how difficult paths can lead us to true love.
Every lawn lost dream, I whispered, and she let up soft sigh, recognizing the tune led me to where you are. We all have turning points in our lives. They can take us through twists and turns, and how we handle those moments shaped who we are. Even with her past, my wife showed incredible in a strength and passion. It was her resilience that it helped me find my way back to happiness. I admired how my wife was moving past her difficulties. I wished I could say I had dealt with my own struggles, but I hadn't. I let my low points take me down a dark path, losing myself in a bottle of tequila. What led me there? I could point to a few things, but mostly it was feeling betrayed by people I trusted, including my ex-wife, Brittany. We had married too young. I suppose that was one reason. There were other factors too, but mostly we were just too young and confused, often confusing physical attraction for love. Well, at least one of us did. At that time, I was living in Texas. I can't say much about my childhood. I was raised by my aunt and uncle on a wrench in West Texas, along with my five cousins. They treated me like family.
I was lucky not to enter the foster care system. My mom left me with her sister when I was two, and I never saw her again. My aunt and uncle were good to me, but I never felt like a truly belonged with them. Living on a ratchet in the country felt like being on a different planet. I found my way out when I went to college, but sadly I lost touch with my family after that. In college, I met Brit at a party after a football game. She was a junior. I was a sophomore and her team had just won. It was a good reason to celebrate. The party was at a big old houseoff campus with a bunch of girls living there. My roommate had an invite, and I went alarm. I drove a sense he wanted to meet his girlfriend there. From the moment I saw Brit, I fell to pull toward her. She was the type of girl who looked great dressed up, but that night, she looked like she had been partying for days. Though her hair was messy and her eyes a bit tired, she looked captivating in her jeans and top. She had a lovely round face with bleached blonde curls and a nice figure. It seemed like she had put on a little weight since freshman year. It was clearer from the way her jeans fit. When our eyes met from across the room, I felt a spark.
She came over, even though she seemed a bit wobbly on her feet. After a few funny moments, she wrapped her arms around my neck, looked into my eyes with her big green gaze and changed my life with two words. Want to hang out? She asked for the playful smile. In that instant, I felt a connection I had never known before. Trying to find the right word, a stumble to respond, yeah. Maybe my mind was a little hazy, but I have some smarts thanks to a few drinks. Britt took my hand and led me upstairs to a bedroom, but when we opened the door, we found a couple lost in their own world. What is going on? Britt shouted, leaning against the door. Hey, take it somewhere else, the girl inside replied. This is my room, Britt said, sound and confused. And that's my X2. Bobby? Oh no, Britt, the guy groomed. What a surprise. Is that why this room feels so familiar? Britt pulled me back into the hallway and shut the door firmly. Wow, she said, amazed. She looked at me trying to focus on my eyes. You have your own place? An apartment, I answered.
Is there a roommate gone? He's downstairs. He's probably sleeping or out with his girlfriend. Do you have a car? I nodded. How far is your apartment? About 10 minutes away. Britt, she said, leading me down the stairs. Let's see if you can take me there before I get too distracted. Once downstairs, she took me over to a blonde girl who was having a good time chatting with others. I wondered how long it would be until she started showing off. Anna, Britt said quickly. I'm going to what's your name? Brad, I replied with the laugh. Britt smiled at me and turned back to Anna. I'm going to Brad's apartment. Anna looked at me curiously while the group laughed. Okay, let's see some ID. Feeling puzzled, I slowly took it out. Shored to me and inesked. I held it up while she took something from her purse. When she pulled out her phone, I realized she was taking pictures of my license. All right, Brad Marshall, you better take good care of our girl. Remember, she said with a smile, we know where you live. Britt squealed, grabbed my hand, and pulled me towards the front door.
Don't wait up, mom, she called back. Mom, I asked surprised. Yeah, Britt giggled. She looks after me and keeps me in check. But you'll do that differently, right? If I thought Britt was just playing around before we got to my apartment, she quickly showed me she was serious. It was funny to see her trying to stay balanced in the car. Thankfully, we reached my apartment just in time, avoiding more awkward moments. We walked inside, bumping into each other a bit. In a rush, neither of us was fully dressed. I had taken off my shirt, but my jeans were tangled around my ankles. She had pulled off her top, but it was still around her neck, and her jeans were only half a down. With all the excitement, I barely noticed her at first. She was striking and had an energy that pulled me in. In a playful move, she gently pushed me back onto the couch and sat next to me. However, things took a sudden tone when she started to feel and well. Suddenly, she fainted, leaving us in a messy situation. I couldn't believe how quickly everything changed, and I found myself scrambling to sort things out. I carefully rolled her to the side and rushed to the bathroom.
The next few minutes were spent trying to shake off the unpleasantness of what had just happened. When I came back, what I saw was strange, a mix of ridiculousness and discomfort. I couldn't shake the feeling that this was one of Dante's imagined levels of hell. With a lot of effort and some gagging, I helped brute into the bathroom and got her and show out with me. She grew unsawfully as I tried to help her clean up. While I took care of her, many thoughts raced through my mind, but I did my best to ignore them. I eventually put brute in my bedroom and back to clean as much as I could of the couch. I took her clothes, put them in a garbage bag, and left them in our utility room. For a moment, I thought about taking them to the laundry room, but I was too tired. I did what I could with the couch, but there was still a faint smell that made it clear it was time for a new one. My roommate and I decided we would be looking for a used couch soon. Feeling completely worn out, I collapsed into my roommate's bed. Sunday morning came much faster than I wanted. I woke up to the sound of two girls arguing in my living room. Blinking open my eyes, I saw it was 7.16 am. Who fights that early on a weekend?
Dragging myself out of bed, I walked into the living room to find a crying Brit and a very upset Hannah. You were her clothes. I'm a shattered. I've heard of keeping things, but really all her clothes. I was still in the days. Brit came over to me, wiping her tears. She was wearing different clothes, which a guest Anna must have brought. You, Brit yelled. How could you do that? What? I didn't. I didn't get the chance to finish when I felt her shop slap across my face. I'm going to report you, Brit said angrily. I stood there in shock as they rushed out of my apartment slamming the door behind them. A few minutes later, my anger started to boil. I quickly got dressed and drove over to Brit's house, determined to explain what happened. When I got there, one of the girls who lived there greeted me at the door. She doesn't want to talk to you, she said firmly. She needs to talk to me unless she wants this to become a problem. I can promise it won't look good for her, I replied. The girl looks surprised by what I said. She told me to wait and dash back inside. A moment later, she returned and led me into the dining room.
The house looked messy, with signs of last night's parties still everywhere. At the dining table, I saw Brit and Anna, along with two other girls I assumed were their roommates. Luckily, we arrived back at my apartment just in time to avoid any more uncomfortable moments. We stumbled inside, bumping into each other awkwardly, called up in the moment. Even though we were in a hurry, neither of us was fully dressed. My shirt was off, but my jeans were still tangled around my ankles. She had her top hanging loosely around her neck, and her jeans were only halfway down. In a moment, I didn't really notice her features. She was lovely, with a shape that naturally caught the eye. There was something about her energy that completely drew me in. In a playful move, she pushed me back onto the couch and sat beside me. However, the evening took a surprising turn when she suddenly felt ill. Before I realized what happened, she had fainted. It was a chaotic scene, far from anything romantic, and I found myself hurriedly trying to manage the situation. I gently rolled her aside and dashed to the bathroom. I spent the next few minutes dealing with the mess. When I returned, the sight before me was strange, a mix of odd and uncomfortable.
I'm sorry, but I'm not who you think I am, I told them. If I had known the trouble I would face just for being nice, I might have acted differently. I could have just walked away or handled things in a simple way. It was a complicated mess. Now that you've heard what really happened, please don't spread any misunderstandings about last night. I know how damaging those can be, and I won't let it harm my name. They nodded hesitantly. I tossed the empty garbage back onto the table and got ready to leave. I'm Bruce, Brut said, a tear tricking down her cheek. It's Brad. Don't say anything to make this better. You're lucky, don't remember much from last night, but it will stick in my mind for a while. And that's how it ended, at least for a while. I didn't hear any unfounded rumors, so I let it go. I received a letter from Brut and a card from Anna apologizing for the events. I saved them as proof. This podcast is sponsored by IQBAR. I've got good news and bad news. Here's the bad news. Most protein bars are packed with sugar and unpronounceable ingredients. I turned to see Brit looking calm and this time sober. Can we talk? She asked softly. I hesitated sensing her knees. She looked beautiful, but I wasn't sure I wanted to dive into this conversation yet.
Please, she pleaded earnestly. Okay, I sighed, giving in. Her smile was warm, and I found myself smiling back. She led me to the back patio where we settled into two chairs. It was dark with fiend like coming from the house, creating shadows around us. The darkness helped me relax. After a moment of silence, she spoke. I'm not who you think I am, she said her voice shaky. I could tell she was trying not to cry. Listen, I said, wanting to make our child a bit easier. There was a lot said. No, she interrupted. Yes, we talked about many things, but I need you to know that I'm not who you might think I am. What happened that night isn't like me? I saw Barbie with someone else and I reacted. I wanted to show everyone, even myself, that I was over him. I'm sorry, I sit softly. I didn't know you still had feelings for him. I wish I could say I wouldn't have taken you home that night if I had known, but I can't be honest and say that. I don't usually have someone so excited to spend time with me. I could hear her chuckle. Well, I don't normally lose control like that. I haven't been that reckless since my first semester in college.
I'm with my ex, it was more about pride. He came to my place and tried to make fun of our breakup. I reacted out of anger. We sat quietly for a bit before I held her laugh lightly. So, you think I look good? She playfully asked. Brittany, you know you do. You're aware of how you catch most guys' attention. Yeah, some guys are pretty easy to read. I could hear her smile. But right now I'm just curious about how I might affect one specific guy. I pause, wondering if she was joking. I soon asked myself if it mattered. And who is this guy? Does he know he's on your mind? I heard her stand up and step into the lie. She looked incredible. I was sure there were pretty good girls around. But at that moment, I couldn't think of anyone better. Well, she's said with a smile, if he sees it as a burden, that's up to him. But I hope he'll see it as a way of saying thank you for being there for me when I needed someone. Well, maybe it's my way of saying sorry for how I acted that morning. I am, Brittany. Brad, it's Brit and I'd like you to take me back to your apartment so I can thank you.
Even in the soft light, I could tell my hesitation showed. While she said softly, rejected. I'm sorry, Brit, I replied gently, chuckling a little. I doubt that happens to you often, though I hope you don't take it too hard. She frowns slightly. No, she said quietly. That was the first and only time. So you see, I explained calmly and careful about what could happen if I take you to my apartment again. I hope you understand my worries. This feels a bit unrealistic. Smile grew on her face. Well, she said with a grin, some dreams can come true. Let's see if we can make this one happen. She took my hand and led me back into the house. After a quick look around, she pulled me towards her best friend Anna and another guy standing nearby. Anna, Tim, Brit called out happily before we got close. Anna's smile disappeared when she saw me. I thought I heard her say, oh no, as we worked up. Bono and said, staring up, Brit. You're really going to do it, are you? Brit smiled and nodded. Well, I will a few agrees to my plan. Yeah, right, Anna smirked.
Like any guy would say no to that. Anna's boyfriend looked confused at the three of us. Anna smiled at him. This is Brad, as she explained. Tim seemed to recognize my name and nodded while going back to his drink. And Brit, Anna continued, wants to take him home to make things right for earlier. Tim almost spat out his drink as both girls laughed. As Turner focused back to me and looked me over. You don't think this is real? She asked, knowing my answer. I nodded. I don't blame you, but I can promise it is. Brit has talked about this a lot since that morning. We both felt bad about how we treated you. Anna paused and smirked again. But don't get any strange ideas. I'm not too sorry for what happened. So those are mine, Tim said with a grin. Brit did an anna laughed. This should be and chuckled. You talk to them more than I do. Tim's face turned bright red and I found myself laughing with the girls. Then Tim's face broke into a big smile. So does that mean I get to think about it if Brad can't? This time, both Tim and I laughed as the two girls looked surprised.
Only in your mind, Anna teased giving him a playful nudge. That seemed to be Brit's cue for us to leave. We said our goodbyes and headed for the door. Just as we were leading, Brit called back to Anna. Don't wait up, Mom. I froze and Brit stumbled over me. She looked up at me with concern. That's the same thing you said that night. I set through gritted teeth. I saw her worry shift briefly to fear then she looked determined. Come on, she said calmly. We have some memories to fix and I know which ones to focus on. Honestly, she did just that. When we reached my apartment, she broke the tension by teasingly asking if my catch was new. It was. She then laid me into my bedroom and we shared a moment filled with real connection and laughter. Any awkwardness from the past melted away as we enjoyed our time together, making new memories. Her warmth and the way she connected with me were things I wouldn't forget anytime soon. Brit later told me that the first time was because she really felt bad, the second time because she wanted to be close to me and the third and fourth times because she was beginning to love me and didn't want to leave. After that night, I didn't want her to go either.
You were thinking about her again, were you? Jordan's gentle southern voice asked pulling me back to now. She turned over and we were looking at each other. I found myself lost in her warm hazel eyes that showed she cared. Huh? You were thinking about her again. Kind of, I said softly. I was really just thinking about what I've been through and that often brings up thoughts of Brittany. I smiled, leaned in and gave her a soft kiss. Then I gently started singing again. Others who broke my heart were like stars guiding me into your loving arms. She smiled, turned away and snuggled closer to me. I felt a rush of warmth inside. Sweetheart, I whispered in her ear. If you keep doing that, we might repeat what we did last night. From us? She giggled, playfully getting there. Oh yeah, I sighed. Well, here is a thought. You hold me for a little while, then I won't let you get out of bed until noon. I laughed, knowing we probably wouldn't stay in bed until noon, but the thought was fun. Deal, I said, kissing the back of her neck. Brit and I had a wild romance. We both felt things deeply leading to many special moments and some tough days too.
The good times felt amazing, but we also had our share of disagreements. Brit still loved party and her nights out with Anna often led to arguments. Still, we both cared for each other, and after 20 months, we found ourselves saying, I do, with our friends and family around. Well, most of her family, since only my aunt and uncle came to the wedding. I was surprised they traveled so far since it had been a while since I've seen them. Our marriage started off nicely. Brit graduated and found a job near by while I finished school and got my degree. Anna and Tim got married and moved to Dallas. I graduated a year later and got a job with the same company as him. Not long after, Brit found a job in Dallas and we moved into a house just four doors down from Anna and Tim. I later learned that Brit and Anna had planned this all along. Anna convinced him to recommend me so we could be closer to them. I didn't mind too much because I got a good job right out of college, and Tim and I became great friends. In the following years, we adjusted to our busy, young, married life. We were happy. Our marriage was strong, and Brit and Anna had eased off their partying, only having a girl's night out once a month.
Tim and Anna hosted gatherings at the house every month. There were eight couples in our close-knit friend group, including two wives from Brit and Anna's college days, living just a few miles away. Each month felt like a little reunion, bringing back many good memories. The other four couples in our neighborhood were nice. The husbands got along well, but we weren't very close. The women, however, had formed a strong friendship. Everything was going smoothly, and I started looking forward to the next chapter of our lives. I wanted to have children, but I knew Brit wanted to wait until we turned 30. We had talked about this before our wedding. I decided to bring it up to her again, but her response was not encouraging. I felt disappointed, yet I wasn't surprised. Both Brit and I loved our gelops. Tim and I worked as construction engineers. He mainly focused on new buildings, while I specialized in restoring old ones. We're kept as busy, often requiring us to work on Saturdays and occasionally travel overnight. A couple of years after we moved to Dallas, things began to shift, our monthly gatherings always had new faces, often friends or family of someone in the group.
Usually, his guests would come a few times and then stop coming, so I didn't think much when a handsome man a bit older than a shoot-up one month. His name was Derek Printergast, and I later learned he was quite de-charmer in college. Both Brit and Anna, along with the college friends, had admired him back then. It became clear he still had a way with people he had recently graduated from law school, and moved to Dallas for his family's law firm from Houston even though he was married, his wife stayed back in Houston, which seemed unfortunate for anyone in a committed relationship. I didn't like him from the start, and Tim felt the same way either. The rest of the group really liked Derek, and he quickly became a regular at our gatherings a few months later. Things changed again. I started a long-term project that made it hard for me to join our monthly gatherings. I voiced my concerns to Brit about going to those powders without me. It wasn't that I didn't trust her, but I was uneasy about Derek. This led to some of the hardest arguments we had ever had. Eventually, Anna and Tim assured me they would watch over things, and I reluctantly agreed. However, in the following months, I began to feel that something was wrong. Derek seemed to be at the heart of it.
Initially, Brit praised him frequently, but then things went quiet. One day, I overheard Brit talking on the phone with Anna, which she said made me uneasy. Don't wait up. Mom, she told Anna, which raised all sorts of concerns in my mind. Over the next few months, I became more suspicious. I watched her closely and checked on her a few times, but I didn't find any evidence. I confided in Tim about my worries, and he and Anna tried to reassure me once more. Tim said he hadn't seen anything wrong, and Anna reassured me that everything was fine. But it wasn't until I arrived and invited to the next monthly gathering that I discovered the real story. It was late summer, so I figured most people would be in the back out near the pool or barbecue. Wanting to surprise everyone, I worked in through the front door. Brit's two college friends were sitting in the living room laughing. However, as soon as they saw me, their laughter stopped, and they shared uneasy looks toward the stairs. At that moment, I felt that something was off. My instincts told me to be cautious. One of the women tried to divert my attention while the others stood up to block my way. Don't I warned, and she quickly sat back down. As I moved toward the stairs, one of them spoke
softly. Please, Brit, she said, her voice trembling. Please don't go up there. I paused and looked at them, realizing they both knew what was happening upstairs. I'm worse, they seem fine with it. I shook my head in disbelief and continued up the stairs. I knew where to go. There were three bedrooms upstairs. One was in office, another was a home gym, and the guest bedroom was my only option. I suspected I was right about where they were, but I wasn't prepared for what I found. When I opened the door, Derek was quickly straightening his clothes while my wife lay in the bed, unaware of everything around her. Brit saw me first. Oh no, Brad, she gasped. Surprise, I said coldly, narrowing my eyes at her and Derek. Derek looked at me and surprised, then gave a smirk, but he stepped back when he saw my expression. I'm six feet tall and weigh about 190 pounds, not too remarkable, but I keep fit. Derek was a bit taller and heavier, though it looked more like appearance than strength. Listen, man, he began, but Brit quickly cut him off. Derek, please let me talk to him. Not much to say, Brit. Not after what I just saw, I responded, trying to keep my
anger in check. Derek, can you give us a few minutes to talk? She asked, ignoring my words. Derek gathered his things and left the room. Brad, she started standing up. You might want to tidy up a bit, I said coldly. She grabbed a towel looking embarrassed. Brad, I'm sorry, she remembered. You weren't supposed to find out this way. Find out what? I yelled. That you've been dishonest? No, she replied. Her voice more serious now. That I care for Derek and want a divorce. What happened next felt like a heated argument more than a conversation. I learned that their relationship had been going on for months. They had kept it secret, except during these monthly gatherings where I was so cold friends had accepted them as a couple. It became clear that some of the wives had influenced their husbands to stay quiet. Brad admitted she had always liked Derek, and now that he was leaving his wife, they could start a new relationship. She broke my heart by saying that she still cared for me, but Derek was her true love. When I asked her to explain, she shared that they had for each other in college. His family had encouraged him to marry someone
else and many of her college friends knew about their connection. I was shocked. I knew they had dated for a short time, but I never thought it was serious. As I processed her words, I realized Anna and Tim likely knew about this the whole time. They probably let it happen and even supported it while pretending to be my friends. The betrayal from them hurt almost as much as what Brut had done. In that moment I felt lost. The shock made me feel numb. I went downstairs to face Anna, Tim, and the others who used to be my friends. They looked filled with shame and sadness, but the pity they showed me was the most painful part. As Anna and Tim came closer, I felt a cold anger rising inside me. Brad Anna said tears in her eyes. She's my best friend and she loves him. What could I do? Well, mom, I can't believe you would treat someone you call a friend as way. I wonder how you treat those you don't like. I shot a glare at my ex-best friend. Stay away from me, or I will make sure we both face problems at work. Do you understand? Tim looked at me, his face full of pain. His eyes were watery as he nodded.
Wow, a voice said behind me. Turning, I found myself face to face with Brenda Gast. It's not really a surprise she wants to move on, he said, and it's not the end of the world. She's not the only he never finished his thought. In a moment of anger, I reacted. I'm not really a fighter, but I knew enough. My response startled him, and in the case that followed, I pushed back harder than I meant to. As a couple of former friends pulled me away, I shouted a few more helpful comments, hoping to make them feel the pain I was feeling. For eight friends, you all turned out to be. I yelled at the group. I didn't know this was a betrayal party. I forced my way out, filled with anger and disbelief. I don't remember getting home that evening. I do remember pouring myself a drink while I waited for what might happen next. Surprisingly, the police didn't show up, but Brit did. She didn't say much just when upstairs to pack. Before she left, she stopped.
I'll be staying with Anna for a little while. She said tears on her cheeks. I don't know what will happen after this. Brad, everything has been set up. You'll get the papers tomorrow. Do you want to do a hero at work? What do you think? I responded a bit sharply. She held back tears. I'll ask them to come here then. Brad, I'm really sore. When Derek told me in college that his family had already planned his future, it broke my heart. He was everything to me. I know he had a bad reputation back then, but he has changed. He's his own person now, and we have a chance to be together again. I just need to try. I didn't want it to end like this. How did you think it would end? Did you really think I would support you going back to him? You really are quite focused on yourself, aren't you? With a harbor can cry, she left. A couple of days later, she returned, but now there was a cold silence between us, and we had nothing to say. The next day, when I got home from work, two police officers were waiting for me at my door with a restraining order. Apparently, Brittany was afraid. I was removed from my own home,
and I had no doubt Derek had moved in that night. Derek and Brittany had played their cards well. I learned later why I wasn't charged after the party. Tim found his courage after I left. One Derek threatened to call the police, Tim told him that if he did, others would say Derek had started the trouble. Tim explained that Derek was fortunate. If he faced the full effects of his actions, things could have been much worse for him. Tim's newfound sense of responsibility did little for me. I had been thrown out of my house, lost my wife, and all my friends. I thought about getting back at them, but what could I do? Everyone already knew and I was sure her family did too. Derek was filing for divorce so I couldn't mess up his new relationship. I was sure Brittany's father was aware of his actions, leaving me with little power. It was clear Brittany had made her choice and I didn't want her back anyway. I wasn't in a position to affect Derek's career or money either, so I settled on physical confrontation as my one option for getting even. It was frustrating, but at least I had that. This left me in a shabby motel room, no wife, no friends, and no home. I watched my life fall
apart. I was just feeling sorry for myself, I was fully leaning into it. The next few months were very hard. Paying in frustration ate away at me, and to escape it I turned to unhealthy habits. My so-called friends tried to apologize, but I asked them all to leave. I knew I could never trust them again, so I didn't just cut ties. I burned them completely. One woman, Karen, asked me if her husband was one of those cheating that I mentioned that night. Everyone knew her husband. Jeff was a flirt, and if anyone were unfaithful, it was luckily him. I told her that wasn't the most important question to ask. The bigger question was which of her friends he might be with. She left in tears. I should have felt sorry, but they had all let me down and that Keela had dulled my feelings. By the time my divorce was over, I needed a bottle of Tequila every couple of days just to get by. My personal I felt like a nightmare and my work was slipping quickly. Not surprisingly, I saw that Brittany and Derek had gotten married a month after my divorce was final. I thought about going to their wedding, but at that point I was just trying to hold onto my job. I knew that any trouble would take away the only thing keeping me together.
Seven months later, I found out Brittany was going to have a baby. That's when I really lost control and started drinking heavily. Maybe fate decided to help me because my company didn't fire me. Instead, they sent me to a rehab program and planned to move me for a new start. I thought Tim might have helped me, but I could never be sure. The rehab I went to was a strict two month program in a remote area changed my life. I came out sober and ready for a fresh beginning. With my background in restoration, my company's sending me to New Orleans made sense. After Katrina, many old properties were left behind after their owners took the insurance money. The new owners worked to restore some of these beautiful places when they could. It was a slow healing process for the area and it reflected my own journey. I laid that for a while just enjoying the moment when I noticed their start to tense up. I realized she was thinking about something that troubled her. A few seconds later, she spoke. Would you do it again? She whispered. Would you go through everything just to find me again? I held her close and rested my head gently on hers. Yes, I said softly. I wouldn't want to go through that again, but if I knew you were waiting
for me, I'd do it again without thinking. It felt like a long moment as I waited for her response. She was always loving, but sometimes she seemed way down. I hope my love could ease her heart. When I heard her hold back a sob, I had a sense of her answer. Jordan, I'm sorry, she said quietly. I'm so thankful you do that for me, but I don't think I could. I just couldn't. Sweetheart, please. I know how much she care. I would never expect you to. No one should have to face what you did. I'm just grateful you can still love. Even more so, and thankful that you love me, I do love you, she said. Her voice growing stronger. I know. It's what helped me keep going most days. It helped me stay calm. As I held her, I felt her body start to relax. She took my hand gently and I could see she was calming down once more. With my wife resting in my arms, I could think clearly for a moment. I traced the small bumps on her arms and shoulders, feeling the weight of her past. She leaned against my chest and I could feel the reminders of her hard experiences on her back. Just thinking about what she went through filled
me with anger. I took a deep breath to steady myself, careful not to upset her. After her mother passed away in a car accident, Jordan stepped for the Bequim Harsh. She was only 14 when it first happened. When she told a neighbor, things got worse, and he resorted to violence trying to break her spare. The scars she carried were painful reminders of her past. Jordan finally left home when she was 17. She lived on the streets for a couple of years trying to escape her painful memories. The cope with everything she started drinking and using drugs, becoming caught in addiction until she met Stan, her ex-husband. Stan was a truck driver who picked her up at a truck stop near Kansas City. He was a big man and seemed like a hero at first. Jordan told me their marriage was good for the first year, but soon it got harder. They both struggled with their addictions, and Stan's mood changed when he drank. Jordan tried to use substances to forget her struggles, but it only made things worse. Things got really bad a few months before their third anniversary. One of Stan's friends, John, owned a nearby tattoo shop and offered to give Jordan a tattoo for a lower price if she
helped spread the word about his business. Jordan was excited about it, but Stan was suspicious, thinking John might have other intentions. Even in their troubled marriage, Jordan believed Stan cared for her. He agreed, but wanted to talk more about it when he got back from his trip to the West Coast. He would be gone for a few weeks. Sadly, in her state, Jordan didn't fully understand his concerns. When Stan returned, Jordan had already been at the tattoo shop for Irish, and her tattoo was healing nicely. But Stan was furious, accusing her of being unfaithful among other things. Looking back, Jordan was she had made better choices that night. The next evening, Stan confronted her right after she took a shower. Earlier that night, he had already visited John and left him in a tough situation, needing time to recover. When he faced Jordan, it was much worse. His anger led to actions that caused her to need medical help for several days and left her with lasting hurt on her back. Stan had left the state before Jordan fully woke up. I looked down at the colorful ferry tattoo on my wife's left shoulder. It used to be beautiful, something people admired.
Now it was damaged. I gently traced the long red marks on her upper back. I felt her catch her breath trying to hold back a sound of discomfort. The effects of what she went through were deeper than just the scars on her skin. I fought back tears as I tried to show her love and support in a kindest way I knew. Jordan's stepother had died several years ago, and we hadn't heard from Stan for a long time. I hope he was facing the consequences of his actions. I focused on Jordan trying not to think about those who had hurt her. I couldn't change her past, but I promised to help her create a better future. Jordan spent three days in the hospital. Her wounds would heal, but the scars inside and out would remain. They found Stan in Arizona, and because he had crossed state lines, he ended up in federal prison. A few weeks after her hospital stayed, John showed up at her door. With both hands injured, he couldn't work and had nowhere to go. Whether it was guilt or fear of being alone, Jordan let him stay with her. With no insurance in John's absence, Jordan struggled with growing medical bills. John recognized her challenges, and as soon as he was able, he left. A little over a year later,
the bank took Jordan's small house. Facing possible hummus as again, she turned back to unhealthy waste cope. Eventually, Jordan accepted help from an older couple, Jonas and Star, whom she had worked for. They had hired her shortly before she married Stan. She had worked in their art studio for four years, and they felt like family to her. After she lost her house, they moved her into a space in the studio and encouraged her to seek help. She had been sober for two years when I met her at an A meeting. That's where our paths first crossed. When I first saw Jordan, I noticed she was reserved. She had her curly dot brown hair tied back in a ponytail and were a cap to partly hide her face. Her loose clothing mostly covered her figure. The little glimpses I saw showed me she was very thin. Those factors, along with her shy personality, seemed to send a strong say away signal. We attended the same A meetings for about two months before I noticed her standing near me. After that, I saw she would often be nearby, not close enough to talk, but still within reach. I talked to a woman who had been coming to our group for a while. She shared some basic details about herself. It was clear she didn't trust men, so my interest
was more about curiosity than anything else. When I first went up to her, I thought she make it scared and walk away. Thankfully, she didn't, but she wouldn't look me in the eyes for our first few conversations. When she finally did, it changed everything for me. At that moment, I didn't know if I was in love, but I really wanted to learn more about her. One night, she didn't come to a meeting, so I decided to visit the art studio where she worked. When I arrived, I was surprised. The shy person I expected to see was gone. Instead, I found a confident and lively young woman who, even though she was very thin, had a certain charm. When she noticed me, she seemed a bit shocked. I approached her gently and spoke softly. She looked at me with wide eyes, and I apologize for visiting her workplace. I mentioned I missed her and was worried. Once I asked her about the artwork on display she began to open up. Little by little, she described each piece, and by the end, she was back to her comfortable self. When she smiled and laughed, I realized I was really drawn to her. Dating Jordan was journey. It felt like walking on fragile ground. I never knew when I might unintentionally remind her of something painful from her past. Over time, I learned which topics upset her and tried to steer clear of those. As a relationship grew deeper, I wasn't sure how she would react. She was cautious at first, and when she began to show me her true self, I was surprised by how thin she was, but it was the scars on her back that truly connected us
more. I could see how much she cared for me. She was starting to let her guard down, and in that moment, I realized I could hurt her simply by turning away. That kind of trust made me open up too. My were as faded as I saw her share strength by allowing me to see the part of her she was most ashamed of. I gently acknowledged her scars, taking a moment to appreciate her as a whole person like a beautiful piece of art. She lowered her head, waiting for me to judge her. I lifted her chin so she would look at me. Truly amazing, I whispered. In that moment, I felt a deep connection as if my happiness was tied to hers. She responded with warmth, and honestly, I had wanted that closeness since we started seeing each other. That night turned into a cherished memory of deep connection. Jordan likes to say that was the night she fully committed to loving me. I always tell her that was the moment we became more than just Jordan and Brad. We became something special together. We dated for just over a year before I found the courage to ask her to marry me. She had hinted months before that she would say yes, but I still worried if we could make it work. It wasn't about doubting our love. It was more about struggles we
both faced. I found myself gently stroking my wife's back. I reached over to touch her cheek, looking deeply into her eyes as I softly signed the rest of the song. This much I know was true that God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you. I could see tears welling in her eyes as she tried to hold back a smile. Really proud? She whispered her voice a bit cheeky. Are you really happy you found me? How do you express just how much someone means to you without them feel overwhelmed? I wondered. And if you do share your feelings, you open yourself up to their reaction. It was Jordan's love that had helped me regain my life. Because of her, I dared to trust and love again. She was the heart of my world. This strong yet gentle woman who both needed me and cared for me made me want to do everything for her. I would love and protect her for as long as I could. That kind of love can be daunting for many. Without you, I said, kissing her softly, my life would have felt dull like an empty drawing in your art studio. You brought color to my world, and I thank God for it every day. You're like an artist shaping my future she replied. With every smile and every moment we share, you make my life better.
Am I glad I found you? That's like asking if someone's struggling to stay afloat is thankful for a life-preserver more than I could average pain. She surprised me as she leaned in closer, and before I could respond, I felt her comforting presence. I could sense her feelings as we shared a moment of deep connection. In that quiet space, we felt a bond that went beyond words. Pulling back slightly, she looked deep into my eyes and said, thank you for loving me. You make it easy. Besides, I'm lucky to have such a talented artist in my life. I noticed her eyes drift away from mine. Jordan, I said softly but firmly enough that you looked back at me. You're beautiful. You are a true work of art. Maybe a Picasso, she joked. Brad, I know how I look and I see the scars. They influence how I see myself. Hey, don't talk like that. I replied, feeling a sense of urgency. His surprise was clear on her face. I had never spoken to her like that before. If I heard anyone say something like that about you, what do you think I would do? Her expressions often and I saw a small smile appear.
I'd probably be talking to the police, explaining why you confronted them. Exactly. I'm afraid this is not what it looks like. What if someone else had said that? This time she chuckled. Well, I doubt you talked to her, but I can guess some of the things you might have said. Sweetheart, I know. So why do you think I'd be okay? I interrupted with you saying bad things about my wife. She's the one I chose above all, the one I care about the most. Why would you think I would just accept that? She looked shocked her eyes wide. Oh dear, I'm so sorry. Jordan, I said softly, you are amazing. I just wish I could help you see yourself like I do. After thinking for a moment, I sat up against a pillar. Let me explain it this way. I said smiling at her. Imagine you had the Mona Lisa handing in your studio. I'd probably get in trouble for having it she laughed. I smiled back. I really loved her laugh. Okay, just hang on a moment. I'm trying to make a point. All right. She sat up with a playful grin. Okay, it was one. I'll listen. I looked at my wife again. She was smiling at me in a fun way. What was I going to say next?
Why is one, huh? I chuckled, putting my thoughts back together. Well, we'll see how well you do a bit later. Promise she giggled. Oh yes, I sighed. Now, what was I saying? Something about the Mona Lisa, she said, smiling. But now, I don't think she's the most beautiful painting, but many people do consider her a masterpiece, right? Jordan nodded. Now, let's say someone foolishly breaks in and damages it. I was my wife gasp, her hands going to her mouth. I loved creative people like her. They have such wonderful imaginations. With a few quick moves, the painting has changed forever. Then lots of money is spent to fix it. When they are done, it looks as close to the original as possible. They did a great job, but there are still marks where the damage was. Now, does the painting look as beautiful as before? No, but many people will still see it as beautiful. The big question is, is it still a masterpiece? The answer is, of course. The changes don't take away from the skill in Ardota Vinci had. It doesn't erase the lovely smile in the painting or
it's important to Ard. It was still attract many visitors, all admire in the paintings a whole. The fact that it had been harmed would probably even make people appreciate it more. Its story would bring an even more interest. I focused on my wife, hoping she would understand and believe my next words. My beautiful wife, with your scars. You are that masterpiece. She hugged me tightly, resting her head against my chest while I gently stroked her hair. I could hear her quietly saying thank you through her tears. As I held her, I hoped she would truly believe those words this time. I could see her gaining confidence after facing her past. She was growing stronger every day and the person she was becoming was even more amazing than the one I first loved. I remembered the words I had before we got married. I didn't know how she would handle difficulties. I often feared she might pull away. We were both unsure back then. I felt so troubled myself that Ardota couldn't love her the way she needed. Thankfully, those fears were now just distant thoughts. My biggest worry was whether a pass would come back to Hondas. Those fears became real a couple
of years after we married. We faced challenges soon after each other. I knew something was wrong when I came home to find my wife and tears. She told me she had received a call from Stan. He had been released early and was back in town. She said she told him she was married and expecting a baby but he still wanted to see her. I told her I could handle it but if she needed to meet him for closure, I would go with her. She seemed relieved by my answer and settled into my lap, wrapping her arms around me. Jordan shared that she wanted to leave a tough chapter behind and hoped to move on without reminders of the past. But I knew this wouldn't be the end of it. One evening while I was at work, Stan came to see Jordan. They talked turned into an argument and he ended up hurting her. Even though we reported what happened, it became his word against hers and the authorities couldn't do much despite clear signs of trouble. The police told Stan to stay away from her and we got a restraining order but I felt that wasn't enough. After a few weeks I made a plan. I hired a private investigator to find out more about Stan's time in prison and the people he met. With that information, I reached out to some contacts and construction
who had a bit of a tough reputation. It was easy to organize a gathering to send a message to my wife's ex-husband. What follow was a period of waiting until I could ensure Stan would be approached without anyone around while I had a solid out of my. Eventually one night, Stan ended up in a difficult situation outside a bar. The police asked me questions but I was ready with my strong alibi. I wanted the meeting to send a clear message to Stan, stay away from Jordan. The things got out of hand and Stan ended up in a worse situation than I expected. Even so, Stan stayed in town for a week. During that time I found something in his car that made it clear he still had problems. After that he seemed to disappear from our lives. Were my actions too harsh? Maybe. The Stan had invaded my home and threatened my wife and our future child. I felt I needed to make him accountable. Once later I faced a new challenge. This one was this intense but it was still troubling. I learned that my team would be working with another group from our Dallas office for a renovation project. Of course Tim was on that team. I shared my concerns with my boss. He told me to stay
professional and focus on my work. With a new baby at home, I valued my job and the money brought in so that's what I decided to do. Tim and I worked together for a week. Then one day he approached me and asked, hey Brad, can we talk for a minute? Sure. It's everything okay with the kitchen wall. It's fine he said, looking uneasy. I just wanted to have a chat. Would you like to grab a drink after work? I don't drink any more. Remember I'm in recovery. I'll ride he side. I wasn't thinking. I just wanted to tell you how sorry Anna and I are. Damn it's fine. I have a wife and a baby now. No need to go back to the past. I get that but he seemed to struggle to find the right words. Just say what you need to say. Anna is coming this weekend. He hesitated. She asked if you and Jordan would like to join us for dinner or treat. I could see he was worried as he noticed my hesitation. Tim were not friends and I don't want to go back to those old days. I can't bring my wife into this situation. He looked down and let out a sigh. I understand but I had to ask. Why? What happened back then took a
toll on my marriage? There was a lot of guilt we all shared and this weekend seemed like a chance to apologize. It wouldn't change everything but it could be a start. I studied him. We had been close friends in Dallas and they sense there was more he wanted to say. And he looked away taking a deep breath clearly unsure. Brittany will be with her. I was taken aback stunned into silence. Brad he said softly. They just want to apologize. Please think about it and let me know tomorrow. If it were me I'd want to walk away from it but you're not me so please consider it. I knew my answer would be a firm no but I also understood that I needed to talk to Jordan. I had promised to support her especially if she felt the need to face her past. To my surprise she suggested we accept the invitation. I hesitated but she explained that after letting go of her past worries she wanted me to feel the same way. I would do anything for her so I agreed. At all Tim we would meet under a few conditions. Instead of dinner we get bayonets at a cozy cafe in New Jackson Square. I also insisted he returned to Dallas right after the weekend. He agreed
don't not very happily. Jordan wanted to make a special night of it so we planned to eat at one of our favorite seafood places before meeting everyone else. Tyler Reddick here from 2311 Racing. When she stepped out of our bedroom I was momentarily speechless really appreciating how much effort she put in. She wore a little black dress but didn't add any flash accessories. Still she looked fantastic. At first I thought maybe she wanted to impress my old friends and ex-wife. Then I realized it was the first time we were going out to dinner since our son was born. Mother had to change Jordan for the better. My want shy wife had grown into a strong mother for Brandon and her new confidence was starting to show in other parts of her life too. In the last month she had been so focused on our newborn baby that it was hard to get her out of the house. I could see she might be feeling a little restless after all that time at home. I knew it would be a fun evening when Jordan pulled out her black heels. Looking at me she smiled brightly, raising her eyebrows playfully. What do you think? She said with a teasing voice. Both Jordan and I was six feet tall. Well she's a tiny bit taller and she likes to remind me of that. We both knew she looked a bit like a graceful dancer in those shoes
and she loved wearing them. I treasure her laughter. It never annoys me no matter how I tease her back. It was all about her enjoyment after all. She chose a pair of lower black shoes for the evening. She wanted to go dancing after a meeting if we felt like it. We ended up asking one of her close friends from work to watch brand in that night. Jordan called home every 15 minutes. A frequent check-ins on our sonnie's attention we felt while waiting for our meeting. When we entered a cafe several people turned to look at us. Jordan looked beautiful in her long black dress. I smiled happy to see how her confidence was also boosting mine. Having her by my side brought out the best in me. We quickly found out table and I introduced Jordan to everyone as we sat down. I noticed that the past five years had not treated Anna or Brittany very well. Anna had definitely gained some weight. The Brittany seemed to have lost too much. We spent a little time chatting politely with the women praising Jordan's looks and admiring photos of Brandon. It felt like a group of friends trying to catch up after many years apart which made me uncomfortable. After the waitress took our
dessert orders. I spoke up. All right let's get to it. I said keeping my voice steady. What do you want Brittany? Really? No need to hold back. You know I value honesty. I reply firmly. Both Brittany and Anna shifted in their chairs at my straightforwardness. Tim Shrick his head slowly. I told you both but you didn't want to hear it. He said calmly. Brittany responded first. I know I've earned that as she said taking a deep breath. Okay Brad, she continued. The truth is before I found out last week that you were remarried I was going to come to New Orleans or as they call it. Nolan's to see if he still cared about me. I knew we wouldn't just jump back together not after everything that happened but I hope there might be a spark left. Not likely I replied dismissively. Any good feelings I had for you disappeared when I found out you were having a baby with someone else. Did you leave it with Derek while looking for your next relationship? And by the way it's pronounced New Orleans here. You really don't know. Do you? She said ignoring my correction. Tim said you had cut off all contact with him but I thought someone
would have told you. Circle friends? I shot back. They were never my friends. In case you forgot the whole group covered for you especially the one next to you. I noticed Anna's face turned pale as my words hit home. She reached for Tim's hand. They all said I was their friend but didn't want to get involved. It didn't stop them from welcoming your new partner. Did it? I felt replaced before I even knew I wasn't part of that group anymore. I had no one to turn to. Brittany. My aunt and uncle were far away on their Texas ranch. I lost all my friends including my best friend and the woman I thought I'd spend my life with. The same life who left me for another man and started the family I had always wanted. I was already in a dark place and started drinking before a divorce was final. Then hearing about you and Derek getting married right after our divorce hit me hard and then the worst news. It's a price. Brittany is having a baby. That news pushed me to my breaking point. If it came so overwhelming that I nearly lost my job. One to guess who helped me out in the end. My company. This sent me to recovery program and then brought me here for a new
beginning. Isn't it funny? My job cared more about me than most of my so-called friends. By this time all three women at the table were crying but only one of them held my hand. She was the only one I would ever let get close to me again. I'm really sorry Brad. Brittany said softly as she wiped her tears. I knew I had hurt you but I never understood how much. I'm sorry. I know it doesn't make up for it but it's all I can give you. Just then our waitress brought her desserts. She looked uncomfortable when she saw us. Three crying women and one upset man that could tell she wanted to get away. Tim called her over, handed her some money and whispered something that made her relax a bit. Since she left up in it some fresh coffee and quickly walked away. Brad Brittany said trying to gather herself. If you hoped we would face consequences for how we treated you, well it happened. Life can be a tough lesson. I'm sure you heard about the fall out from that party. Karen ended up leaving Jeff. You can't blame me for that. I interrupted. If he couldn't keep his promises she should have moved on. True, Brittany replied but he didn't
change and she did leave him. She also started accusing many of us of being involved with him. With all the drama from Derek and my situation, plus Anna and Tim's problems we start meeting each month. Anna and Tim's problems? I asked, realizing I had taken the bait and was drawn into the talk. Brittany smiled gently. Yeah, Anna and Tim were apart for a while back then. I glanced at Anna and saw her as watery again. I looked at Tim confirm what Brittany said but it seems they're back together now. Tim goes along with whatever Anna wants, no matter what. Anna opened her mouth to speak but I cut in. If that were true, we wouldn't be here tonight. Brad and said kindly. Things have changed in our marriage. Some changes have brought us closer while others still need time. That's why we're here tonight. What we did, we feel so much shame. We needed to tell you how sorry we are. No, it's more than that. I need to tell you how sorry I am for breaking your trust. When everything came out during that party, it made me uncomfortable.
Our choices were wrong. I put my husband in a hard spot, making him choose between me and his best friend, even though I knew it wasn't right. My choices led to our split. Tim moved up for a couple of months. It might have been longer, but when I found out I was going to have a baby, he moved back home. Congratulations, I said firmly. Do you know who the father is? Brittany gasped and Anna looked shocked. I turned to Tim, daring him to say something. Anna spoke first. You might not believe me, she said softly, but I never cheated on Tim. Well, I replied sharply, Brittany must have learned from someone and you were a big influence back then. So it's hard for me to believe you've given your past. And side and nodded. My husband felt the same. One of his rules for moving back was that I stopped talking to Brit. We didn't talk for over a year. Then, with Tim's blessing, I tried to reconnect with Brit, but everything had changed. Things between us have never been the same since. Brat, I am really sorry. I regret how our choices affected you and everyone else. I sat quietly, taking in her words until I felt a gentle squeeze on my hand. I looked at Jordan
and saw her encouraging me to move on from the past. Okay, Anna, I replied with a tied breath. What's done is done. We can't change it now. The truth is, I don't have hard feelings towards you or Tim. I just try not to think about either of you. That was until Tim moved on here and became a daily reminder. I'm sorry, but I thought this was the only way we could meet Tim said softly. You're right. I wouldn't have agreed otherwise. You've apologized and I've accepted. Let's try to move on with our lives and not meet again. What about me? Brittany asks her voice shaky with emotion. I'm overgiven. What about you? I replied more harshly than I meant to. This has all been about you, as usual. She wept a tear from her face with her napkin. I felt Jordan's hands squeeze mine again. You're right, Brad. I was thoughtless and selfish back then. I heavy silence filled the table as everyone waited for my reply. Don't expect me to disagree, I snapped. It probably wouldn't change anything. Brittany continued quietly, but I knew I had made a mistake even before our divorce was final. During our time apart, I realized Derek hadn't been
completely honest with me. His family didn't really oppose our marriage. They wished he'd married his first wife, but didn't push for it. Derek told me later he fell pressured by them. I had my doubts, but by then I was all in. I knew I had ruined any chance of saving our marriage. I'd foolishly chased after a dream that hadn't been real in college. You asked earlier about my baby. I lost my baby girl in the fifth month of my pregnancy. The doctor found some issues at that time. I have a genetic condition that prevents me from carrying a child to full-term. The fact that I managed to carry my baby for five months was seen as a small miracle. There's something else the doctor's found. I had a serious health issue that I wasn't aware of. It was hard to take in. I was shocked. For a moment, it felt like she was blaming me for something awful. Well, it certainly didn't come from me. I said trying to defend myself. No, Brittany replied, looking sad. It was my previous husband, Derek. When we got married, I thought we had been tested for everything we needed. I was wrong. Not all tests were required. I was tested, but Derek wasn't. So you might have
unknowingly affected my health. I asked my voice tight. Jordan held my hand. Brittany looked at me with tears in her eyes. Yes, it's possible, but I didn't. I was with Derek during our marriage. Luckily, my initial tests were all clear. Even my follow-up test months later showed I was okay. They said it was likely I was affected just before or after I got pregnant. Derek said he probably got it before he moved to Dallas, but when another person tested positive and pointed to him, it revealed the truth. Loss, it made Derek unpopular with his father's law firm. Although nothing happened from them, the scandal made the firm distance themselves from him. Two other families were also greatly impacted. I don't know why I didn't see his unfaithful as coming. I shouldn't have been shocked since he had fooled others before. I guess I hoped it wouldn't. Tyler Reddick here from 2311 Racing, another checkered flag for the books. Time to celebrate with Jamba. Happened so soon in our marriage. I felt alone even though I knew part of it was my fault. My husband was unfaithful. My ex-husband hailed anger toward me. My family was very disappointed in my choices, and my closest friend wasn't talking to me. I'll marriage didn't last a year after my miscarriage. They're vanished from our lives. I found out he passed away six months ago. My health condition hasn't changed much, but I deal with the worry it brings every day. It's not the same fear I felt years ago, but it has certainly altered my life. I also carry the burden of knowing that I'm the
only one to blame for my situation. It's my fault I let go of a good marriage for a fleeting dream I chased an idea and ended up with nothing. Now my life is still in shambles and my future looks and so to now I'll never have the family I want, not because of the health issue, but because of the genetic problem I'd option is an option, but being a single woman with this health issue complicates things Brittany. I said plainly, you're still attractive enough to find someone special. You don't have to be alone. No, she replied sadly. I can still have casual relationships, but that's about all it ever is. I don't go on many dates because of my health condition. It makes it hard for the kinds of guys I want to notice me. Most know about my illness already or are just looking for something short-term. When they learn about my situation, they usually think of me as just a brief encounter or someone to share their problems with. This really narrows down my options from the type of partner I have with my first husband. Broward, if you were hoping for some sort of fairness, you've got it. I'm a 30 year old divorce woman with a health issue, not exactly who most men want to settle down with. I watched quietly as my ex-wife seemed overwhelmed by what she said. Tears were streaming down her face along with Anna's and Jordans.
I felt unsure about whether to say something comforting or to respond in a different way, but then I looked at my wife and had a realization as I gazed at Jordans face and saw her understanding look. I understood something important. I turned my attention back to Brittany and noticed everyone at the table was looking at me. It seemed it was my turn to say something I went pretend it doesn't feel good to know you're having a hard time after how you treated me. I said gently what you did to us, but it doesn't make me happy. I'm not celebrating because of your health issues. Still, I would lose sleep over a deeter. The truth is, Brittany, I really don't care what happens to you, or Anna, or Tim. When Jordan came into my life, my past date where I belonged, behind me, I hardly think about any of you now. Now I have an amazing wife who means everything to me. Recently, she even gave me a son. She is my feature. She stuns by me and everything I do and she supports me. She truly is everything to me. Just so you know, Jordan has faced her own difficulties that make my past seem easy. She is not only survived, but is finding her way forward. Alone, we might be two people with struggles, but together we feel complete. Honestly, our relationship has its unique challenges, but we hope that the good parts balance
out the hard ones because it was her strong feelings for me that helped me deal with my own issues. I saw her overcome her fears and learn to trust me because of her deep love for me. It was her strength that allowed me to do what I never thought I could do again, trust. I found that her need for me much my strong desire for her to rely on me. Is that not quite healthy? Maybe, but for two people working through their past, it feels like hope. So when the most incredible person I've ever known told me she loved me, I said, looking at Jordan, she laughs softly, even with two still in her eyes. I smiled at her and continued. If you could see how deeply she loves me, you might start to understand, I said, borrowing a line from one of our favorite songs. I turned back to Brittany. Now that I have someone like her in my life, why should I waste any time thinking about all the trouble you caused me? You've said what you needed to say, and now it's my turn. I forgive you all, but please just leave. Go start a new life together or find something else to do. Get ritual, let Tim handle things his way. Enjoy your life, whether it's good or bad, I don't mind. Just stay out of my life and I'll be fine. I smiled to myself, remembering how my little
speech had pretty much ended the party. But the evening was far from over, and that's why I was smiling. Jordan looks so amazing that I couldn't help but want to take her dancing after our chat. We didn't dance for long, though. She hugged my neck and playfully twirled my hair while looking into my eyes. When she leaned in closer, I knew we would be very lucky to make it home without getting lost in each other. We did make it home that night, just barely. I'd love to say we had an exciting evening, but that wasn't exactly the case. Jordan held me close, leaving little space for anything else. Instead, we enjoyed one of the most memorable nights together that I've ever had. Such wonderful memories. What are you thinking about? She whispered, her sweet voice bringing me back to the moment. More than a penny's worth, I laughed. I saw her eyes light up and then a playful smile appeared on her face. Maybe we can figure out a way to pay that. She reached over and lightly touched my chest, making me chuckle. I'm sure we can work something out, I replied with a grin. She gently pushed me onto my back when all of a sudden I heard quiet voices outside our bedroom door.
Mommy came the soft voice of our five-year-old Brandon. Talk about ruining the mood. My lovely wife giddled softly, then sat up with a smile. Yes, sweetheart, she asked, laughing at my surprise expression. Can Caleb and I get up and watch cartoons? She looked at the clock and smile. We both knew that on a weekday, neither Brandon nor his little brother would be up this they would have needed to be dried from bed, and they probably groan and shuffle around. But since it was a weekend, of course, they were awake at dawn. Not yet, honey, she said gently. How about you and your brother go back to bed and read your colour for a bit? But mom, the boys wind together. Boys, I said in my fatherly tone. What did your mother say? Jordan and I tried not to laugh as we listened to the sound of tiny feet carrying back to their room. My wife turned to me, her eyes sparkling with a mix of fun and warm. As she'd give us some time, she said with a smile. Maybe time to talk about that little girl, I teased. We discussed that last night. Twice, she laughed. Do you think a third time will make a difference? I smiled back. You never know, I replied playfully. She chuckled softly and we shared
a quiet, loving moment. I felt a deep bond with her. I was amazed I still had energy left after the busy night before. Looking at her sleepy happy face, I noticed her half-open eyes shining with joy. Her smile spoke volumes. She was mine, and I was hers. Forever, I love you, I whispered. Her smile grew even brighter. I know my love, she giggled. Oh, yes, I know, mommy. That day came a small voice from outside our bedroom door, breaking our moment. Is it time yet? My lovely wife nestled her head against me and laughed. It was a sound I promised to cherish and create for her every day. Epilogue. Did I bring happiness to her life every day? Not all the time, but I did most days. We each have our struggles. Between my worries, her fears and life's challenges there were times when laughter was hard to find. Thankfully, those tough moments were few. I haven't completely avoided seeing Tim over the years. Our company's main office is in Dallas, where they hold important meetings. Yes, I'm still with the same company. They supported me when
I needed it, and now I'm loyal to them. Now that I've been made the head of a Louisiana operations, it's easy to stay committed. Tim and I are polite when we occasionally cross paths, but that's about it. About five years ago, Jordan and I went to a corporate awards banquet in Dallas where my team was being honored. At the banquet, Tim and Anna came over and invited us to dinner the next night. Even though it had been fifteen years since we last met, I wasn't very excited. However, one look at Jordan told me it was time to move forward, so we agreed. The dinner was friendly, but a bit stiff. We mostly talked about our families, work, and our hometowns. Anna had a little extra weight, but look good. We found out they had two kids, a boy and a girl about the same ages as our sons. The only mention of Brittany came when Anna said they had grown apart when she became pregnant with her second child. She later heard that Brittany had remarried, but eventually faced health problems and passed away. I'm a thought that Brittany and her husband had adopted two children from Africa, but she wasn't sure. I hadn't thought about Brittany in quite a while, so I felt nothing special when I heard about her passing. That part of my life
was long over. Over the years, Jordan has truly become a strong presence in our community. My wife is now well known in both business and public life. She took over to art studio when Jernos and star retired and moved to Colorado. Something about a new law that made a popular there, I guess. Jordan brought the same care and passion to the studio that she has always given to our kids and me. So it was no surprise that the studio was done so well. However, it was in public service where she really captured our city's heart. Eight years ago, Jordan was invited to speak at a local conference about helping survivors of difficult situations. My wonderful wife at 39 showed up in a casual outfit. While her past had visibly affected her, it was her words that truly impressed everyone. She spoke with such confidence and honestly shaped pots of her journey, but it was her comparison to New Orleans that won them over. She explained how her life had been like the city after a big storm, scoured on a need of healing. But thanks to the love of friends, her kids, and me, she found her way back. She would always have those marks from her past, just like the city, but they didn't define her. They were reminders of her journey, like a map.
Her life was a beautiful story, just like the city she cherished and nothing could change there. And yes, I took a little pride in that. There were tears in the audience when I and our four children joined her on stage. The pause was loud as she hugged each child, but it grew even louder when she shared a touching moment with me. It was so strong that I didn't hear the cheers for a few moments afterward. That's right, I set four kids, and yes, I did give her a little girl actually too, Marie and Julianna. They are now teenagers and look like they could grow as tall and lovely as their mom. In fact, Jordan and I are getting ready to see Caleb Grascher from high school. Jordan and my marriage have changed a bit. As she has grown stronger, I've stepped back and let her shine. In return, she loves me even more, which I never thought was possible. Our love has deepened in many ways and is woven into everything we do. Of course, in some ways, it hasn't changed much. Tonight, Jordan is wearing her favorite outfit and giving me a sweet playful smile. With the girls staying overnight at a friend's house, I have a feeling we won't linger at any graduation parties. I wonder if we'll even make it to my truck. And that is the end. Thank you for listening,
